L is for Late Night

Drew tilted his head over his shoulder, staring off the side of the cruiser ship. His eyes fluttered close, the feeling of the wind whipping against his hair strangely relaxing. He could feel all the tension from the past contests slipping away as he lost himself to the comfort of the wind. It wasn't until he felt a shake did he eyes snap open. May's half distorted face wasn't the first thing he thought he'd see when he opened his eyes. He blinked a few more times to clear the grogginess that clogged his eyes, sighing in relief when May's face was back to normal.

"It's dangerous to fall asleep when you're leaning against the edge," May said, drawing Drew's eyes to her. "You'll fall off."

"I'm not a klutz like you, May. I know what I'm doing."

Despite his words, Drew looked just beyond May. Sure enough, it was dark. He wondered how long had he slept without anyone waking him up? No. He looked back to May. The question should have been what was May doing on the cruiser ship.

"What?" May asked when she realized Drew was staring at her.

He shrugged. "What are you doing here? This goes to LaRousse."

"Yeah," May said like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "I know."

Realizing that May didn't answer his question, he went to respond, but thought better of it and kept his mouth shut, staring off into the wrinkly water. May looked all around Drew and the ship, then sighed.

"Where's Roselia?"

"She gets seasick, so I put her in her pokeball."

May blinked. "Oh… I see."

"What?" Drew asked, his attention back to May.

She shrugged, walking over to the edge of the boat. Crossing her arms on the railing, she took in a deep breath while looking at the horizon. Drew turned around, doing the same as May. He looked at her for a second, studying the look in her eyes before looking to the same horizon she was.

"It's astounding," May said.

"Yeah."

Drew nodded head slowly, the relaxing feeling washing over him again as a distant memory popped up in his head. It was different, but feelings and closeness were still there. He moved his elbow out until it just barely touched May's elbow. She looked over at him, a question in her eyes. Drew smile, pulling out a hidden rose from his jacket. May's eyes light up as she smiled, taking the rose gingerly in her hands.

"Thank you," she said, unable to keep the ridiculous smile off her face. "It's beautiful."

"Yeah," Drew said with a wave of his hand as he turned around, starting to walk off. "Kind of like you."

Hello! Sorry it's been such a long time since I posted anything for this (since december phew). I was busy working on some of my original work and getting through some bouts of depression. I'll be focusing on getting Contestshipping ABC's done this month, so please look forward it to ^^ Thank you very much to everyone who's been following this series faithfully since I started it. It means the world to me to have people like you out there who read my stuff.
