Chapter 12

Sif

I couldn't stand it anymore. It had been a day since Thor had started pacing the dining hall floor and it looked like he wasn't going to stop anytime soon. He had told me the news about this Thanos fellow taking Loki away to earth, and that he couldn't follow, which is why I found him this agitated. The grand hall could not contain the angst and the worry that Thor had for his brother.

"Thor, pacing the floor is not going to help matters any," I said trying to calm my friend down. Thor looked terrible as he had not eaten or slept since he received the harrowing news.

"I can't rest until my brother is safely back here in Asgard," Thor grunted softly the tiredness obviously overtaking my friend.

"Well, you can't bring him back here looking like that," I said looking at Thor's unkempt hair and tired eyes with every sign of exhaustion written all over his face.

Thor took one glance down at himself before giving up the pacing and came down to sit beside me at his place on the grand feast hall of the palace. He placed his massive arms on his knees and then placed his hands on his head covering his blue eyes to where I couldn't see them. Thor usually didn't worry about things, but when it came to Loki, he never stopped worrying.

"I am sure that he is alright," I reassured my friend as I placed my hand on his knee.

"I sure hope that you are right," Thor stated as he gave me a half-hearted smile.

"Right about what?"

We both jumped at the new voice that came to our ears. I craned my neck to see Fandral, Hogan, and Volstagg entering the room.

"My friends," Thor said with renewed strength to his voice, "you have heard the news of my brother's break out?"

"Yes," Fandral explained as he sat down next to Thor, "That is why we cut our time short in Vanaheim to come find you."

"Then you know that upon the enemy's request that I am not to follow?" Thor continued.

"Yes we heard that too," Volstagg concluded.

"He is not pleased that he can't follow him to earth to rescue him, on orders that if he did, than Thanos himself will kill Loki," I relayed this information to the warrior's three.

At the name of Thanos, the three of their faces paled considerably. Everyone in Asgard knew that Thanos was a man not to be reckoned with. And if Loki had dealings with him, then it could mean dire consequences for himself.

"We can't just let Loki die at the hands of Thanos," Fandral exclaimed, "I know what Loki has done in the past to make me not want to help him, but as a lifelong friend and fellow warrior, it is my duty to help him. I even think that I have a plan to rescue him."

Professor X

(Same day)

The day had arrived for me to interview the new prospect for the teaching job. I didn't know what to expect for Tori was too excited to give me the details that I needed, but I was willing to give him a shot, especially after Tori showed me what he did for her arm.

It almost neared the time we had arranged for me to finally meet Tommy that was so highly talked about by one of my most studious students. I wheeled over to one of the closest windows in my office and glanced out hoping that I was making the right decision in giving the man a job when I hardly knew him.

But my mind was soon filled with the sound of soft knocking against the closed door to my office.

"Come in," I stated.

The door slowly opened to reveal Storm, one of my most trusted allies and a former student of mine.

"I have a man who wants to speak with you," She informed me once she fully entered the room.

"Well then we can't have him waiting now can we?" I asked mentally chuckling to myself that Storm was on edge over a guest in the school, although with recent attacks we have had have regarded guests entering the school, I couldn't blame her.

She ushered in a young man with short cut black hair and the most stunning emerald green eyes I think that I have ever seen in my life. He was wearing a white dress shirt and black slacks on with a green and gold scarf wrapped around his neck.

"You must be Tommy Lorison?" I asked as I extended my hand out to him in greetings.

"And you must be Professor Xavier that I have been hearing so much about," he replied as he shook my hand.

"You probably know just as much about me as I know about you," I answered trying to relieve some of the tension that I was feeling in the air.

"I think we have a mutual friend to thank for that," He said through a chuckle, probably because he knew the very person to thank for that.

"Well, let's get started, shall we?" I inquired of my young friend.

"He progresses well."

"He still has to convince her, and I feel that my task is going to get that much harder to do."

"How can this be master?"

"He has friends in high places that are anxious to help him, but know that they cannot because of the death sentence I have placed over our slave's head if they interfere."

"What can we do? We can't just allow this to happen."

"We can't delay the inevitable, but we must quicken the pace of our exploits in order to gain our goal quicker that we first anticipated. And that's where Algarth, my friend, you come in."

"Lord Thanos, I will do anything for you."

"Alright then, listen closely."
