Chapter 12

(Finnick's POV)

"ANNIE!" I shouted as I sprinted for her room. I didn't care that my hand was still dripping with blood or that it stung like heck. All I cared about was Annie. I'd received a text from Cato saying that Annie had just woken up and I'd cursed myself for not being there for her when she'd opened her beautiful emerald eyes. But, as I ran for her room, I realized that all that mattered was that she was alright. I wasn't going to lose her.

I burst into her room in excitement. "Annie," I said again, softly this time, as I saw her in the bed.

"Finn, hi," she said, smiling at me. Her serene face was framed by her matted, tangled hair and IVs were still stuck into her everywhere. Her skin was still a pale-white color. But to me, she'd never been more beautiful.

I walked swiftly across the room to her, barely noticing everyone else in the room, all who were sobbing their eyes out from happiness. I leaned gently across her frail body and kissed her on the cheek. "I'm so glad you're okay. I—I don't know what I would've done without you."

Her smile widened. "Finn, I'll be fine." Her green eyes danced playfully at me. Then, her face cleared of all emotion and she looked at me seriously. "You know," she said, lowering her voice to a whisper. "I like you. A lot. And if you don't like me back, it's o—".

My eyes widened at her confession and I interrupted her babbling with a soft, short kiss. When I pulled back and looked at her, her face was alit with a deep blush.

"Annie, I like you too. I have ever since we first met," I told her seriously. Then, embarrassed at what I had just admitted to her, I ducked my head.

She lifted my chin up with her finger, forcing me to look at her. And then, she pulled me to her and kissed me.

Let me just say: Best. Day. Ever.

I didn't leave Annie's side once that day, not even to eat. Peeta had to sneak in food for me because I refused to leave her. After a couple of hours of us sitting there, talking, laughing, and, okay, kissing, I finally gathered the courage to ask her out.

And she finally gathered the courage to say yes.

So, now, we're officially a thing.

The next morning, I awoke beside Annie, a terrible crick in my neck. Let me just tell you— it doesn't feel good to sleep sitting up in a chair. The doctor came in a few minutes later to check on Annie. She quietly told me that Annie would be free to leave the hospital a few hours later— as long as the tests on her brain and body came back with good results. I thanked her and she left.

I turned back to Annie and watched her sleep for a few moments. I felt kind of like a stalker, but I didn't care. After all, it was just me and her in the room; her parents had left last night, leaving Annie in my care. At that moment, her brilliant eyes fluttered open and she narrowed them at me.

"Finn, why are you staring at me?" she groaned as she tried to sit up.

"Because you're beautiful." I smirked as I repeated Augustus', from The Fault in Our Stars, signature line.

"You're so freaking cheesy," she teased, rolling her eyes.

And in response, I kissed her.

(Peeta's POV)

"Woah, are we interrupting something?" my girlfriend questioned the couple on the bed as we walked into Annie's hospital room.

I smirked at the red faces of Annie and Finnick. "I see you two finally got together." I winked at them knowingly.

"Yea," they responded at the exact same time. Then, looking at each other, their faces reddened even more.

Katniss looked at me, raising her eyebrows, and the two of us began to crack up. We laughed so hard that we were both soon doubled over, tears rolling out of our eyes.

"What's so funny?" Annie demanded, narrowing her green eyes at the two of us.

"You two," Katniss answered simply. I covered my mouth to stop the laughs from escaping. I could see that Katniss was trying very hard to hold her giggles in as well. Her lips were pressed tightly together and her eyes were dancing with laughter.

Finnick glared at us. "You guys are SO not funny."

"I second that statement," Annie piped up, holding her hand up to show her agreement.

"Well, I think we are funny," I said cheerfully. Then, jokingly, I whispered to Kat, "What was so funny again?" I made sure to say this just loud enough so that Finn and Ann could hear me.

Finnick rolled his sea green eyes at me and stuck his tongue out.

"Real mature," I said, laughing at his childish gesture.

"Okay, little girls," Katniss chided playfully. "Onto more serious matters. So you two, when did you get together?"

Annie slipped her small hand into Finnick's. "After I woke up yesterday."

Finnick nodded. "We kind of both just admitted we had feelings for the other. And you know, things have just been going up from there."

"Well," I said, smiling broadly. "I'm happy for you both. It's about time my other two best friends got together."

"Yeah," Katniss added, her grey eyes shining. "We knew it was only a matter of time before you two were dating. Speaking of dating— now we can double!"

Finn, Annie, and I nodded in agreement.

Then, Kat walked over to Annie's bed and shoved Finnick playfully out of his chair. "Out, boys," she directed. "I need to speak with my best friend."

Finnick rolled around on the floor, pretending to be hurt. Then, when he realized that Kat was about to kick us both out, he sat up. "I want to stay!" he whined.

"Dude, there's no point in arguing with Kat. When she wants something, she gets it."

"Thank you, Peet," Katniss said, smiling at me.

"Of course, Princess." I replied teasingly, purposefully using the loathed pet-name.

She glared daggers at me as Finn and I left the room. "Stay gone for at least an hour. Tootles!" She winked at me, straying from her mad expression.

As Finn and I walked down the hallway, I chuckled. I just loved Katniss. So much.

(Katniss's POV)

I looked at my bestfriend, waiting to for the boys to leave. When they were gone, I cleared my throat.

"Annie," I said, tears welling in my grey eyes. "I'm so glad you're okay. I was so— so worried about you."

"Kat, it's okay. I'm okay. It will all be alright, I just know it." She wrapped her arms around me and I smiled at her.

"Love you, Ann."

"Love you too, Kat."

"Now, please, spill the details. You and Finn?" I raised my eyebrows at her suggestively.

Annie smiled brightly, her green eyes lighting up at the mention of her boyfriend. "I know, right! I can't believe he actually likes me!"

I shook my head in disbelief. "Annie, it was so obvious that he liked you. And vice versa. It's insane that neither of you noticed."

"You knew that he liked me?" she asked.

"Yep."

"And you didn't tell me?"

"Ann, it wasn't my place to tell you his feelings. Just as it wasn't Peeta's place to tell Finn your feelings. Besides, pretty much everyone in the school knew you guys liked each other. Just from the looks that you gave each other… it was so obvious."

Annie sighed. "I guess I have to work on that. I'm not good at hiding emotions from people."

I clucked my tongue at her, feigning disapproval. "I've noticed, dearie. We're going to have to work on that, now won't we."

"Shut up, Katniss," she teased, shoving me lightly.

"Never." I stuck my tongue out at her.

"You're just as immature as Finnick! And that's not a compliment." Annie crossed her arms over her chest, fake-glaring at me.

"Eh, I bet I can pull this look off way better than Finn can, though," I joked.

Annie and I laughed.

And the rest of the time was peaceful, filled with jokes and laughter, gossip and mindless chatter. Anyone that saw us would know that we were best friends. And that was just how we wanted it to be.

Well, just a little filler chapter, I suppose. I will try to get the other characters more involved soon. Maybe a little game of truth or dare or something… Tell me your ideas! I hope you enjoyed. If you did, please review and say "plus one". It will mean so much to me if you do! Please R&R! Love you all!
