Chapter 12
I forget I'm not even supposed to love you… that was the phrase that kept on knocking its way in her mind but she kept on resisting it, "Okay, joke's over, now stop teasing me." she laughed.
"I am not teasing you. Not this time. So please don't laugh, this is no laughing matter for me."
She chuckled, "You can't fool me. I get it. I won't be like this anymore," her smile then slowly faded away, "Now, could you please… stop saying those kinds of words to me…"
"Why? Can't you accept it? I like you Lucy. To be honest, ever since I asked you to pretend, I already liked you!" he reasoned out, "That's the purpose why you were the one I asked to pretend with me! Because right from the start, I already was feeling something for you!"
"Stop it. You're just mistaken. You're just thinking that you like me because I'm helping you out."
"No. I know myself. I know what I feel. Why can't you accept my feel—oh wait… is this because you like someone else?"
She looked away.
"I knew it," he hurtfully giggled, "You like someone else. And let me guess… that someone is Natsu, right?"
"Gray, stop."
"Tell me. It's Natsu right? That's why lately you acted as if you're so puzzled. It's because you're beginning to develop feelings for him. That's why earlier, when you got the time to talk to him alone, you did. And now that you have the time to talk to me, you won't. And that's because you actually want him, right? You know, you can tell it to me frankly now. Don't worry, I can handle the pain, I can—"
"I said stop it. The reason why I am not accepting whatever you're saying is because we agreed to never fall for each other while doing this act, remember? What else do you want to hear?"
"Do… do you like Natsu?"
"If I say I do, would you quit?"
"…" he felt a strong pang in his chest as he comprehended her words.
"Gray, if you still want to keep this pretend up, then stop this. Let's continue with what we have agreed on."
He wanted to reply, but her blank, scary, deep orbs were what shut him up. He had never seen her like that before. Maybe, he thought, he really pulled her trigger this time. And come to think of it, she's already having a week of confusion, and then he added to it. He tilted his head down, "You're right… I should stop this." He slowly strolled towards the door, "I'm going now. But please… don't forget what I said. It was all true."
She sat on her bed as she sighed. So much has happened that day. She felt bad for rejecting his feelings, but she thought it was better than accepting it and making everything a lot more confusing for her. In her mind, she knows she did the right thing. But in her heart, she knows something was wrong. Not that there's something wrong with him or his confession, but there's something wrong with what she replied. Even if she thinks about it over and over again, she's not sure if she really meant everything she said.
As he was walking along the streets, away from her apartment, he was hurt, but he didn't cry. He felt his heart being torn down to pieces, but his tears won't run down. And it's by far the worst feeling he had felt. After all, not having to let out all the pain is agony.
As everyone was laughing and having a good time, the sky suddenly darkened. And as rain poured down on people, so did his tears on his face.
And just like that, the fun and enjoyable day turned into a gloomy and melancholic one.
"Ahhhhh, Lucy, what did you do?!" she screamed as she threw herself on her bed, "This act was supposed to help Gray… but what happened…" she sighed, "Why did it have to be like this…" she looked onto her window, observed the raindrops racing against each other. She wasn't hurt, but somehow, she was lonely.
She closed her eyes and longed for silence. She longed for a short peace of mind.
And as she was about to fall into a deep sleep, she suddenly heard a knock on her door.
"Who is it?" she asked as she gradually stood up. What if that's Gray? But he left already, why would he come back? Does he want to confirm if we're still going to pretend? But we will, right? I mean, I told him that if he would want to keep the act, he should stop confessing… and he did. Does he want it to come from my mouth? Darn… I don't wanna experience that thing again, when we talked on the door because of Juvia and then we were very emotional.
"Gray? Is that you?" she queried once again and another knock served as the reply. What if that's really him? What should I do? Things got so wrong. If that's Gray then… What's going to happen next? Ah, I don't know anymore! Really Lucy! What's happening to you?! You sound like a confused old woman who doesn't know anything about love!
She slowly walked towards the door. She held the knob and slightly turned it, here goes nothing… she thought.
And much to her surprise, the person who came to see her wasn't her lover. Rather, it was his lover… Juvia Lockser.
To be continued…
A/N: So how was it? I hope it was okay! I'm sorry too if you see mistakes! After Gray's sudden confession, it's now Juvia's time to shine! Tehee~ please feel free to review, etc.! \(◦'')/
