Another Penguin To The Zoo
Chapter 12
Penguin-napped
At first Kowalski thought that one of the penguins was just returning to get something, but as the penguin stepped inside with an ice cold voice and fiery eyes, Kowalski gulped. "Bonjour!" he greeted them in a malicious tone. "Sorry to interrupt your love, but I came for someone," he continued laughing wickedly. "I wonder if you're gonna stop me as well, just like that twitterpated lemur." He then focused his attention on Lindsey. "You've used your special skill again I see, Lindsey. You caught yourself another defender. Bravo," Hades commented with spite, the sarcasm in his voice audible.
"Don't you dare say that, Hades," Kowalski said as he picked up all his bravery, "it makes you the spiteful one. All you do is kill, you have no other source of amusement. It is almost like it's a past time of yours!"
"Would hardly call it a 'past time', Einstein. Let us say that it is a rather necessary step, one which I must take to get what I want," he answered, with a smirk etching his beak. "The other defender decided to fight me and he was a fool to do so, didn't manage to fight for long. That pathetic mammal. I do wonder if you are any better than him."
Kowalski felt like he would explode from the rage that was building up inside him. Of course I will fight you. Then we'll see who is the pathetic one!"
The two penguins started fighting. Unlike Julian, Kowalski knew karate which made him slightly better at attacking Hades and defending from him. But after what seemed to Kowalski like hours (although it was more like 20 minutes), he began tiring out, his stamina leaving him. "Leave Kowalski be, Hades! Kill me not him," Lindsey hissed at the maniac.
"Oh you thought I was gonna kill you, that would be next to impossible... here at least. I'll just take you away from here!" Hades exclaimed, laughing. "But first I need to do something."
Then, with one last blow he knocked out Kowalski.
As the three other penguins returned they were surprised to see Kowalski lying on the floor of the HQ, motionless.
"Kowalski, wake up!" Skipper shouted. As Kowalski woke up he looked around, seeing that Lindsey wasn't there any more.
"He took her. He just took her away, I should have fought harder... I should have,-" Kowalski began to blame himself, but Skipper silenced him. He looked up at Skipper.
"There was nothing you could have done Kowalski, if you fought any harder he would have ended up using a knife," Skipper stopped him from saying anything else. Kowalski and the others couldn't sleep properly, but mainly Kowalski. He kept blaming himself. His nightmares soon turned darker and much more terrifying. He would see blood seeping in from the corners of his vision, Lindsey's cries echoing in him mind.
As morning came, Kowalski was in his lab, red-eyed from exhaustion, with hopelessness in his face.
"What in the name of aunt Arctica are you doing to yourself soldier?! Just look at you!" Skipper scolded Kowalski, to no avail. Even in the afternoon he still was walking about lifelessly in his lab. Then, a stubborn idea came to him. He would find Lindsey by himself and bring her back, even if it meant he had to die for it.
He set out at night, leaving no footprints. Walking to the bus stop, he waited for the bus called 14B. If his assumptions were correct, it would take him near to Blowholes last base, and there was a chance there still were parts of the base that weren't destroyed. The penguin stepped into the bus trying to be unseen. He managed it and then he sat on one of the back seats hoping no human would catch sight him. Luckily not many people were out and about at this time of night and so he got to Coney Island unseen by them.
He swam to the island as fast as possible, guiltily anticipating the sights to be seen.
As he got to what was left of the base, his guess was confirmed. The base had been rebuilt, but was smaller and seemed more empty, Hades probably wasn't the type of guy who held prisoners very often. Nor did he seem to have any workers or computers in the building. The building fitted Hades, for it was cold and stank like centuries old mackerel. In one room he spotted about a dozen weapons, including flamethrowers, grappling hooks, shotguns and other things. Rico would have been very envious if he saw this room.
By the equipment lying around, the other rooms were probably used for torture.
As he got to a room at the end of the hallway he heard voices. He quickly hid behind one of the walls and listened.
"I finally got you, finally I'll know it all!" This was undoubtedly Hades who was speaking.
"You may have caught me , Hades, but let me tell you a secret. The weapon was destroyed a long time ago!" Lindsey spat with resistance. She became much stronger since she was first attacked.
"Well then I am going to have to kill you!" he hissed. "Shame though, you do look rather pretty. But that's what your parents have chosen," he spoke in a snake like tone. He tried to step closer to her, but just as he did that Lindsey kicked him. "So you want play rough?" He took her and put her into a cage."See if you've got the courage to fight sharks too!" Hades taunted, cackling again. Then he slowly dropped the cage using a machine into the deep water.
"You're a coward. A mad coward, Hades. A chicken is less of a coward than you!" Lindsey shouted, refusing to let her fear take over.
Kowalski sprinted to her rescue. He began punching Hades with all his strength and as Hades started backing off, he went to rescue Lindsey.
At this point she was completely under water. "How will you save her now?" Hades asked before he disappeared. Kowalski tried to move the machine but it was stuck. He would have to dive down into the water. But before he did that, he ran to get a chainsaw from the weapons room. He ran back with it and dived into the water. By this time Lindsey was giving up. Kowalski quickly unlocked the cage and opened it. He took Lindsey and swam with her to the surface. Then he lay Lindsey on land and jumped onto it himself.
He began to think that there was no chance for Lindsey to live, her body lying still on the cold cement. It had been a lot to live through, for a young penguin. However, just as tears were about to spring to Kowalski's eyes, Lindsey started coughing up the water she had swallowed. Relieved, the taller penguin smiled at her, bringing his flipper to her shoulder comfortingly. She smiled back, glad that this was over.
The pair went pack to the HQ, feeling like crying and smiling at the same time. It seemed that Lindsey would be safe once more.
"Anyone wonders which animal's love towards Lindsey is stronger?"
Lindsey: "Really, how can you ask this kind of question?"
"Because I wrote this story, Little Miss Know-A-Lot."
*Lindsey groans inwardly.* "I think it's time to end this conversation."
"But we just started." *The author protests.*
Lindsey: "And now we're gonna end it." *She huffs, placing her flippers at her chest.*
