Okay, here is chapter 12 of The Bleak Future. I hope you guys out there enjoy it.

"Argh, there is nothing to do around here!" Penny exclaimed.

It's been two and a half hours since Mr. Peabody had left, and it was going to be the nightly curfew in two hours.

"Where is he?" Sherman yelled.

"Mr. Peabody said he would be back in an hour or two! It's been two and a half hours!" Penny explained.

"Well, what are we gonna do?" Sherman snapped.

"We're gonna sneak outside again!" Penny said.

The only response Penny received from Sherman was a blank stare and a mouth hanging wide open.

"Well?" Penny said, motioning Sherman to talk.

However, Penny's attempts to get Sherman to speak were proven unsuccessful.

"Speak!" Penny snapped. "Come on, speak!"

"I am not leaving this house again!" Sherman screeched.

"Oh come on! You're so boring!" Penny complained.

"We have already snuck out of this house twice! If we sneak out again, we'll be in huge trouble!"

"You're so boring!" Penny repeated.

Sherman shrugged his shoulders. "Give me one good reason why I should sneak out of the house with you for the third time."

"Because if you don't, you'll be bored to death in here," Penny replied.

"And?"

Penny groaned. "That's all I've got."

"I ain't leaving!"

"You said to give one reason and I gave one reason!"

"I said one good reason," Sherman said, smirking. "Besides, Mr. Peabody will probably be back any minute. And he's not the kind of guy to be late..."

Penny's head lit up like a Christmas tree. "Exactly! He's never late! Something terrible must have happened and we need to find out what!"

Sherman sighed for a very long time, before he angrily spoke. "You owe me big time for this!" he spat out, rushing towards the back door.

"Thank you, Sherman!" Penny chirped, running out the back door and closing it behind her.

"Lucy!" Mr. Peabody called out, running through the community. "Where are you? Lucy!"

As the beagle ran through the community, he received numerous looks from the other citizens. But Peabody didn't care if he was going to become the laughing stock of the community, but he just wanted to find Lucy. It's quite scary when you come back to find that your partner has just vanished with no explanation.

"Ugh..." Mr. Peabody groaned. "Who am I kidding? I've been looking for Lucy for two whole hours and I can't find her anywhere! And I promised the kids I'd be home a long time ago!"

Without thinking twice, Peabody trotted over to the house and slowly opened the door. But it wasn't long before Mr. Peabody got a tap on the shoulder and he whipped around in terror. There was a serious-looking woman staring right back at him.

"Hello?" Mr. Peabody managed to croak.

"Mr. Peabody, is it true that you and this woman named Lucy have been stealing the metal benches and blowing them up?" the woman spoke.

"Um..." Peabody mumbled, but the woman's serious stare made Mr. Peabody want to crumble.

"Is it true?" the woman questioned again.

"Yeah..." Mr. Peabody sighed.

"Well, it looks like we have a problem here," the woman said sternly.

"Where is Lucy?" Peabody questioned.

"She is already in the room."

Mr. Peabody decided not to question as the woman continued to give him a very blank and serious stare.

"I'm still bored," Sherman said mere minutes after he and Penny went outside.

"It takes time to recover from boredom," Penny said.

"Penny, I really think we should go back to the house," Sherman whined.

"Why are you such a scaredy-cat?" Penny whined.

"Penny, please!" Sherman begged.

Penny groaned very loudly. "Alright, fine!"

"Yay!" Sherman cheered, skipping to the back door, which was only ten feet away.

"Wait, open the door slowly!"

"Got it!" Sherman chirped. "Just don't open it quickly!"

"Yeah, let me open it."

Once Penny got to the door, she could swear that she heard voices, and they were talking. That's when Penny decided to feed her curiosity and she creaked open the door. "Oh my god..." she said once the door was half-open.

"What?" Sherman asked.

"Look at this!" Penny whispered.

Sherman stood right next to Penny as the serious conversation between Peabody and the serious woman continued.

"You can't do this," Mr. Peabody demanded.

"Yes I can, and I will. You and Lucy have committed three transgressions. Therefore, you and Lucy must simply be released."

After hearing that line, Penny's mouth became as wide as a dinner plate and her heart plummeted to her stomach.

Uh oh, Peabody and Lucy will get released! What's gonna happen? Will they get released? Find out in the next chapter of The Bleak Future.
