I had to do a bit of research for this chapter, but nonetheless, here it is.

Without even turning around to see who it was, Cindy acidly asked, "Is there something that you require, professor?"
Adam glanced back to see Neutron standing behind them with both his arms folded over giving off a stern attitude. Adam glanced at Cindy with a confused yet astounded look.
Neutron gave a cold stare at the two and replied with little emotion, "Miss Vortex, there appears to be a bit of a problem here. When teacher, such as one like myself, asks their students to do something, they expect it to be done properly. I had asked the class to take part in a discussion about the poems that were selected; yet here you both are giggling and completely blowing off the task I gave. What does this tell me? That you are not adequate to do a simple assignment like this? Maybe you would have better luck somewhere else."
Cindy felt her blood boiling as she clenched her teeth in frustration. Before she open her mouth to answer back with a cruel remark, Adam beat her to it.
"Sorry, professor. We will try to stay more on task, eh?"
Cindy looked back at her partner with disbelief and then to Neutron where he looked more calm and collected at this. But also a bit...disappointed?
"And that is all I ask. Be more considerate next time. Especially you, Miss Vortex." James said as he walked away without another word.
When he was gone, Cindy turned to Adam with a shocked face and whispered frantically, "Why the heck did you apologize to him?! It was totally not our fault and there was no way that he should have yelled at us!" She was totally taken aback by this. Cindy was the type of person where if she felt strongly about something, there was no stopping her from arguing for it. As annoying as this was to some people, it did win her the top position on the debate team at school.
Adam merely chuckled at her argument and shook his head in amusement, "Cindy, it does not matter if we are right or not. He is the teacher, after all, and we have to do whatever he says in the end. No matter how much I would like to see you both get into a war."
Cindy looked hard at her new friend. No one had ever told her to just give up on something. Her own hard-headed mother always pushed her to work hard for what she wanted. This was a whole new territory for her. But somehow, Adam's reassurance seemed like enough for her to take it up.
Giving a small smile herself, Cindy said, "Please, a war would have been too modest. It would have ended up being a revolution."
Raising his eyebrows in curiosity, Adam smirked, "While I would like to get to know more about your hate towards each other, we should really stay on topic, innit? Why don't you share your poem with me?"
Cindy picked up her own poem from her desk. Hearing Adam's own poem made her reconsider her selection for it seemed to be the complete opposite. Adam's was funny and care-free and her own was something that she picked on a whim because it felt right.
Plus it was also really late at night and she was tired.
But mostly because it felt right.
Before she could open her mouth to speak, Jimmy called the class to attention. She sighed in relief and placed the paper back on her desk.
Standing in front of the students, Jimmy placed his hands behind his back in a sophisticated manner and spoke, "I would like to apologize in advance before displaying a traditional middle school teaching method upon you guys." He placed his eyes on Cindy and gave a small smirk that almost broke his professional persona, "Or perhaps I take that back. This is way too much fun not to take the chance."
Cindy paled at the eye contact. There was no way that he was about to do what she thought he was about to do.
"Miss Vortex? Why don't you come up a share your poem with the whole class? You seemed to be having a good time earlier, so why not share that same feeling with the rest of the class? Why don't you share your selection with us and then we can critique you."
It was more of a statement than a proposal.
Being raised with by an athlete for a mother and a cop for a dad, (A/N: I have no idea what Cindy's dad does, I mean does anyone know? But I don't know. Cop seems right.) Cindy was able to smell a challenge from a mile away.
The fire in Neutron's eyes.
The cocky yet controlled smirk.
His stupid raised eyebrow.
Fine. If he wanted her to dance, then she would. But he better know how to tango.
Rising from her seat without an ounce of emotion on her face, Cindy silently accepted by picking up her paper from her desk and bringing it up at eye level. She took a small breath for assurance and looked quickly across the room only to see everyone was staring right at her.
Let's go.
"The poem that picked out is by Percy Bysshe Shelley. It is called I fear thy kisses gentle maiden'.
I fear thy kisses gentle maiden;
Thou needest not fear mine;
My spirit is too deeply laden
Ever to burthen thine.
I fear thy mien thy tones thy motion;
Thou needest not fear mine;
Innocent is the heart's devotion
With which I worship thine."
The words flowed out of her mouth with ease as Cindy recited her poem for the class to hear. Public speaking was one of her best strengths on her long list and she was pleased to see the class look at her with such wonder and admiration.
Adam looked up at her from where he was sitting and gave her an encouraging smile along with a thumbs up.
She looked at Jimmy when she was done and soon made the motion to sit back down again only to have him stop her.
"Not so fast, Vortex. Why don't you share with us your ideas on the work while I still have the spotlight on you?"
Folding her hands over each other in front of her body, she replied, "From what I can gather, it seems that the speaker is trying hard to avoid the love of another person. He tells her that while reassuring her that he still loves her nonetheless and that she should not be afraid of that."
Crossing his arms, James challenged, "And why do you suppose he tells her that? If he wanted her love to end, should he not have lied instead?"
Cindy looked down to the ground to think about it for a second before replying, "Perhaps he does not want to give up just yet. He wants to let her know that they cannot be together for some unknown reason, but also wants to establish the fact that it is not because of him not reciprocating those feelings." She took a little glance around the room before continuing on, "I would think that by keeping his feelings hidden from her, it would make it easier to avoid her. However, the speaker still wants to risk it all by telling her how much he loves her. He even admits that he may love her even more than she does him."
James tilted his head the side and looked up and Cindy with a softer and thoughtful expression. "Do you think that is justified?"
She gulped at the words and spoke, being careful not to break her composure, "It would have to depend on the circumstances. However, if this speaker is as in love with her as he says he is, then there is no way around it. He would have to keep her going as a hopeful maybe rather than what could have been no."
There was dead silence is the class as Cindy and Neutron looked at each other with an unknown expression. It was so quiet that you could have probably heard a pencil drop from a mile away. The sea of students looked back and forth between the pair as they both stood their ground.
Cindy glanced at Zoe who looking at her and gave a small half smile in admiration. Adam looked like he wanted to laugh but tried to stifle it.
Coughing a bit, Jimmy finally broke the silence by saying, "Um. Good work Cin-Vortex! That will um do for now."
Giving a small smirk, she sat back down in her seat where Adam punched her lightly on the arm.
Maybe this class was not so bad.
The class carried on after the performance that Neutron and Cindy put on. Jimmy pushed the concept of poetry analysis as well as a complex timeline of revolutionary years and works. The whole thing was structured to be like a science class only there were no test tubes to be found. Just a lot of words about love and affection.
Cindy could not have had a more enjoyable class since her time at Columbia.
After getting more homework to take home, Jimmy finally called the session over and everyone picked up their stuff to leave.
Cindy walked over to Zoe who was stuffing her notebook and folder into her black studded hobo bag. She silently approached with her puppy dog eyes and asked in a child-like voice, "You aren't still mad at me right?"
Stopping what she was doing, Zoe gave her a small smile, "How could I stay mad at a little dare devil like you that can make our poetry teacher turn to pudding? Nah, Cind, don't worry about it. We were both being bitchy. It's all good."
Cindy danced her eyebrows in cockiness, "So you really think that the book nerd Vortex can be a dare devil?"
"Don't push it."
Before Cindy could reply, Adam came walking towards them with his purple Jansport backpack clung over one shoulder. "Oi, Cindy. Who's the ginger?"
Pointing at Zoe, Cindy replied, "Adam meet my roommate Zoe. Zoe meet my new friend Adam."
"Cool accent. I dig it." Zoe said casually and Adam shook his head with a smile as response.
Cindy looked at the classroom clock and saw that it was just barely 8:30. She turned back to her friends and asked, "Hey do you guys want to go grab dinner or something?"
Shaking their heads in approval, the three all left school to get some food from a local diner.
Poetry is hard on the stomach.
Don't forget the leave a review! All input is really appreciated!
