Mathias was gone.

It was an early Tuesday morning. The birds that had built a nest on the fire escape outside your window chirped. Daylight had yet to climb over the horizon at a good 4:30 A.M. With a small shake of your head, you blinked the drowsiness away and pulled your phone from the now neat coffee table. 'How… clean?' the thought led you to your boss' contact where you changed the title to Mathias the Idiot courteous to the night before.

Whatever the reason was you had already forgot once you hit 'Save'. You lumbered off to the small kitchenette humming a random Sinatra song. The bittersweet smell of coffee awakened your senses slightly and you made your way to the shower with a bounce in your step.

A coat lied in the way of the doorway; it definitely wasn't one of y-

'Oh, that complete idiot.' You scoffed as you lifted the coat, which lingered in your eyesight just for a moment longer before you tossed it to the side. 'I need to stop. This is a childish crush,' your cheeks blushed wildly. 'If I think about him any more I might as well pass out from the rushing blood going to my head.'

'Alright. Let's do this thing,' you smirked and cracked your knuckled as you placed your hands on the keyboard. 'One report. One girl. You can do this! First letter, M for Math-,' at this point your strive for avoiding The One Who Should Not Be Named was slowly failing. 'Mathew! Yes, that's right! Mathew!' Bowing your head slightly in shame you began the daily summery report.

"Psst. (Y/n)!"

'Stocks. Check. Now for the Board's stupid analysis.' Quickly you began typing a simple 's'.

"(Y/n). Psst!"

"Dammit!" You hissed and deleted 'stupid board' from the screen.

"(Y/n)!"

"What?!" You yelled and swerved around to the face on Tom. "Damn, what's with you?" he said. Your eyes darted to the paper bag in his hand, "What's that?"

"Mathias is sick."

Your eyes blinked rapidly, "What? With what? Is he alright?"

"Wow, you're an attentive secretary, he hasn't checked in this morning at all. Yeah, but –uh- he asked me to drop off this-" Tom held up the bag, "-but the scum bag won't let me escape this joint, so…" He held the brown bag over your head dauntingly. "All you needed was ask," You rolled your eyes and grabbed the bag from his hand. "What's in here anyway?" You hands pried at the bag's opening.

Tom's hands shut the bag quickly, "SHH. You can't let anyone that you have this. Especially when you're giving it to Matt," his voice was low at a whisper.

"But what if-" You started with his finger covering your lips. "Sh, sh, sh, child. You didn't see me today," by then at the end of it he tried to somersault under a desk. You looked up to see Mr. Scum Bag make his way past your desk. Tom's head popped up from his hiding place. Shaking your head you said, "You're clear Mr. Bond."

The address was hidden under a couple files buried in your computer. It was only a short time when you retrieved it and left the office discreetly, saying that you had to pick up a few things for your report… like a pencil. It seemed like a good excuse at the time.

The brown bag led you up an apartment building that took forever to get to through the dense traffic, it was a wonder how your boss commuted from here and to work each morning without complaints, although it didn't really seem like he would be a complainer about this type of stuff. In daylight, it was rather fancy, but not as brilliant in the city lights of night.

You grabbed the brown bag as you parallel parked your car outside. Inside was a small medicine bottle; it looked like it was prescription by a doctor. 'Pain killers,' you thought. Your mother was big for those. She had all sorts of them; usually she made you grab them from the shelf of the kitchen. From the time you knew how to read, you had already learned about ten different ones. Rather strong drugs to say for sure.

This apparently was one of them.

Distastefully, you stuck it back in its formal place and threw open the door to pay the parking meter. The door opened by a familiar man. From here you walked straight to the elevator, careful not to make any eye contact with anyone.

"Just open the door. It's open," a muffled voice said as you obeyed. It creaked ever so slightly. "Do you have to be so-," a sneeze, "slow?! I'm literally dying here and…"

"Is there an insult anywhere there?" You tilted your head in questioning to the sprawled out form of a man with a remote. He sneezed again and looked you over, "I just-"

"You just…?" Your face lit up as you tossed the paper bag at Mathias, his shirt was hung up on the chair next to the couch. Mentally pushing a dirty thought from your mind you kept eyes on the red wedges you wore below. Hearing the shift of material on the couch made you itch to sit right next to your boss… but he was your boss, wasn't he?

A pair of oversized bare feet came into view inches from your own. "(Y/n)? I'm sorry; I-I didn't know you were coming instead of…" his voice trailed off, "Hey, you okay? Looks like my carpet is more interesting then my brilliant face, eh?" You heard yourself begin to speak, "Don't embarrass me."

Mathias sneezed, "What? Embarrass you? Whatever do you mean?" He was mocking you, even when he was sick.

"You fully know what I m-!" You stopped short as you lifted your blazing red face to meet his. His hair had lost its volume overnight and lied lazily strewn across parts of his forehead, as much as you avoided the thought he did look awfully out of it, 'Holy hell… Is he trying to tease me?'

"I-I mean," you cursed under your breath, "Don't get too close. You're sick… a-and put some damned clothes on."

You sneaked a peek at his bare abdominal; a flush of red filled your cheeks. Mathias snickered, "I mean," he stepped back, "you are blushing insanely, but if you insist."

Your eyes widened. Holy shit, he noticed. "Can I just go now?" You muttered, willing yourself away from anymore mocking. "Already?" It was the first time you noticed him sounding congested, "You're my secretary, right (Y/n)?" You nodded, tilting your head in confusion. "Your suppose to do everything I ask, nej?"

Once again, you nodded.

"Okay, look at me then."

And you did.

He grabbed your wrist and pulled you closer.
