Chapter 12: Deadly Encounter
The sun began to sink into the horizon. Clouds were racing across the sky, making haste as they gathered near the shore. A cold wind flew by, as Rin gaped wide-eyed at the pair of sky-blue eyes in front of him. "What do you mean, little sister?" Rin questioned in a hushed, hoarse tone.
He pulled Haru closer to him when he got no response. "What the hell do you mean 'my beloved little sister'?! Answer me dammit!" Rin screamed as he glowered a frigid gaze toward the young man who was now smirking at Haru.
"It is exactly as you heard it. Haru is my flesh and blood," the man spoke as he slowly stalked to tower over the kneeling Rin with blood-thirsty eyes.
A sharp shiver spiralled down as Rin instinctively held Haru tighter and jumped back farther away. In an instant a violet sword swung down and collided with the man's wrist. Sky blue eyes glowered to the side to find Shura panting with a deathly stare.
"Shura!" Rin yelled as he saw Shura move once more only to be effortlessly blocked.
"Kou, how dare you show you face in front of me! In front of Haru of all people!" she said as she swiftly flipped over him and swung at his back.
Kou disappeared just as Shura made contact to appear once more behind Haru and Rin. Quickly, before Rin had time to react, he reached out and grabbed Haru by the hair. He swiftly moved once more in between Shura and Rin, holding Haru firmly by her hair. He tightened his grip as Haru let out a weak screech. A sickeningly proud laughter escaped from his lips, "how pathetic. Your efforts will prove to be futile," Kou hissed as he glared down at Haru, "tell me, dear sister, does your heart hurt? It should after all the effort I used to place that thing on you."
He hysterically laughed as he lifted Haru in a choke hold into the air and punched her jaw. He kept kneeing her stomach and rib cage while smiling with joy. He continued until Haru coughed up some blood. Rin and Shura watched in shock and horror.
Rin rose to his feet. A snarl escaped as he gripped roughly at the hilt of the Kurikara. Kou turned to him with amusement. Kou smiled, while Rin sent him a frightnening glare. Fire and tears battled in his eyes as he unsheathed his sword. Kou whistled at Rin, "that's quite the look you have goin' there. It sends wonderful chills up my spine."
"You call yourself her brother, and yet you have no problem hurting her while smiling?" Rin spoke with a shaky voice.
""And what of it, brat?"
"I will never forgive you," Rin whispered.
"I'm sorry, I could not hear you," Kou announced cheerfully.
"You are her older brother! Instead of protecting her, you do the exact opposite?! I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!"
Rin suddenly charged fast toward Kou. He stepped to only be right in front of Kou. He swung sharply as Kou dodged up and landed a few feet back, throwing Haru in the process. Shura ran fast and caught Haru just as she hit the ground. Shura sighed a breath of relief. Shura glanced up. I want to punch out the guts of this bastard, but I must get Haru out of here. No matter how strong she is, she won't be able to hold out forever while he is here.
"Rin, I leave it to you, I have to get Haru to safety. I was wrong in agreeing to come here, I'm such an idiot," Shura quickly stated as she put Haru on her back and ran off back into the forest.
Rin turned back and nodded, letting out a breath of relief. He turned back to Kou with a frigid gaze.
Kou smiled at Rin, "aren't you going to follow them?"
Rin growled, "Shura will be back to help me, I just need to hold you off until we find a safe place for Haru."
Haru, please be alright, Rin thought anxiously.
"That's quite confident of you to openly tell, the man who wants to rid your precious friend of this world your plan," Kou said plainly.
"Don't worry, I'm going to beat the crap out of you until you can't move," Rin retorted darkly with a smirk.
At once Rin darted toward Kou, flames and his cry, enraged in perilous fury.
Quite a ways away, a man with long blonde hair tied up, strode elegantly down a long corridor. His long white coat swayed behind him as he reached two towering doors. He cleared his throat as a loud knock resounded. With great force the doors opened to reveal an exceedingly large room, walls reached twenty meters tall, with a long range of wooden seats circling around the entire room. The man lightly made his way to the edge of the room, where a high platform stood with wooden rails, running along all sides to make sure no one would fall. The man looked up to the shadowed figures that stared down at him. "Good evening," the man spoke with a smile, "I had received the message of some urgent business."
One of the shadowed figures stood and rose to a high podium that stood out of the seats. Once the figure came into the light, it revealed a man in his late fifties. His blackening grey hair receded on his forehead, revealing a peach-coloured scalp. He had dark cold eyes that seemed to be in a constant glower. The man held a scowl as he looked condescendingly down at the blonde man. "Paladin Arthur Auguste Angel, the council would like to educate you on a decision that the True Cross Order has reached regarding the son of Satan. We hereby determine that Okumura Rin, is a threat to our world, we do not need to wait until the Exorcist Examination to determine this," Arthur smirked as the man spoke," we order all exorcists to execute Okumura Rin on site. Failure to let him go will not be tolerated and will be seen as a sign of betrayal! That is all!"
After the man finished he dismissed the meeting. Many in the room smirked, finally able to settle their prejudices, while just a few were wide-eyed and shocked by the sudden decision. One of the shadowed figures hastily made his way out of the towering doors. "This is bad," he said he gritted his teeth.
He quickly took out his keys and opened a door to the academy. Hoping to inform the principal, before it was too late.
A thunderous, burning explosion sounded, causing the entire earth to tremble. A figure quickly jumped back out of the smoke. He landed roughly, panting as he placed two burnt, unconscious figures on the ground. He looked gently at his friends. He gritted his teeth as he stared at their burned, and bruised bodies. "Koneko, Shiemi-chan," he quietly said with a trembling voice.
He glared up at the large airborn monster that snickered proudly at the damage his last attack caused. Muscular wings larger than its own body flapped as he circled around his prey. Shiny red scales ruffled up along its skinny elongated body. A long spiked tail swung furociously behind him. The temperature rose again, as it prepared for another attack. Flames errupted from the creatures mouth and rained down on Shima as he moved to shelter his friends. A tower of flames rose as the flames caused yet another explosion. Once again, Shima jumped out of the way to the edge of the forest to avoid the attack. Just before the torrent of smoke and flames ceased he managed to hide Shiemi and Konekomaru in a tall bush. Once he could clearly, see he staggered closer to where the large reptile flown above. He glared up at the monster while piecing together his golden staff. Nervousness spread through his limbs as he began to feverently tremble. The reptile snickered once more, "well, aren't you eager to die."
Shima panted heavily, "If it is to protect them, I will be brave; even if I was born a coward," Shima stated as he clenched his fist to stop trembling.
The creature smirked with amusment, "how interesting, it will be entertaining to see how long you last against the great Akio-sama, the dragon of fire."
Shima smirked back as he positioned himself to block an enflamed attack.
Further away to the South, Yukio, Bon and Izumo panted as they fell to their knees. Each were trembling in loss of breath and energy. Bon tried to stand, but was brought down when the monster increased the poison in the air. The beast crackled and smirked when Yukio tried to aim for a shot. A glowing orb leaped out of his pistol and just missed the creature as it flew up to dodge.
"Damn it!" Bon screamed as he pounded the earth with a shaking, weakening fist, "what is going on?! Why are there two of em'?!"
Izumo stared wide-eyed at Bon. "What are you talking about? Have you seen something like this before?"
Izumo glanced to take a good look at the monster. It was lean, but muscular. Rich violet scales shimmered in light as it ruffled up aggressively. Two long wings stretched, showing its true length (that being large than the body itself), spikes all along its face, and back was sharply smooth and pointed. A gas of miasma was emitting from it's mouth, which hosted several large fangs. The most distinguishing features was it's long elegant tail and neck. The tail swung violently back and forth, creating air pressure. A low thunderous roar erupted from it's throat, as it flew higher into the sky.
Izumo let out a small gasp, "don't tell me, this thing is a-?!"
"Took ya long enough," Bon retorted with a mocking smirk.
"What did you ssy?"
"Like I said, this is not the time for trivial arguments. Izumo-san, you are correct, it fits the description of a dragon. Luckily, I did some research on them before we departed." Yukio stated as he nervously inspected the features of the dragon that was now gathering visible energy around the opening of it's mouth.
"What do you mean?" Izumo questioned feeling the tension off of Yukio.
"Yeah, what do you mean, Sensei?" Bon asked in a mocking tone to Izumo.
Izumo shot him a dirty look, she was about to reply with a snarky comment when Yukio waved his hand to interrupt her.
"What I mean is that I happened to research the legends of well known dragons of Gehenna," Yukio inhaled a shakey breath, "violet skin, emitts miasma, there is no question that this is the notorious dragon, Gaile, the dragon of Void."
Izumo and Bon both remained silent trying to process the new information. Bon looked up with a confused scowl and lifted his hand, "that doesn't make sense, I thought you were gonna say he was the dragon of poison, or somethin'."
Yukio face palmed and shook his head, "that is not relevant. The only thing we should worry about is how we are going to defeat it. He notoriously steals an opponents energy and converts it into miasma."
Izumo suddenly lit up, "wait, Sensei, that is genius!"
"Pardon?"
"What if we use his attack against him?!"
Bon lit up as well, "Yeah! That is brilliant! See, you can be smart when you try!"
Izumo glared and looked to Yukio pushing up his glasses, "A technique like that, will undoubtedly fail."
"What?! Why?!"
"Dragons are intelligent creatures. Such a simplistic idea will be found out."
"We should at least try," Bon stated as he rose to his feet.
That is right humans. You should listen to your "Sensei". For I have already predicted such a foolish plan, everyone stared wide-eyed as the heard a low growling voice in their head.
Yukio was about to respond when he felt a cold shadow loom overhead. The looked up to see the dragon peering down at them.
