"Beth what are you doing here?" Chloe asked surprised and confused. The blonde stood up hugging a rigid Chloe.
"I wanted to surprise you for not being able to get away the past few weekends. And when you said you couldn't go tonight because you were coming here I thought what a way to meet your old friend." Beca was standing behind Chloe speechless. Like what the fuck? Does the universe hate me? She was pissed and she could tell by Chloe's stature she wasn't happy either. When neither girl said anything Beth spoke again. "Aren't you happy to see me?" She asked suspiciously.
"I don't like to be ambushed." She answered not sounding very pleased and Beth rolled her eyes.
"Don't be dramatic Chloe, I just thought it would be a nice surprise. Please sit down and we can all have dinner." Ok Beca didn't like this woman. "I brought Jeff since you said Beca was single I thought they might hit it off."
"Are you kidding me?" Chloe said while Beca thought it. "She doesn't even know him." Chloe turned to look at Beca. "We can go if you want."
"Chloe please. I'm sorry. Let's just sit down and have dinner and get to know each other." Beth cut in before Beca could answer. Beca sighed. A part of her wanted to just get the hell out of here, but another part of her wanted to get to know a little bit about the woman Chloe was with. Gotta see if she's worthy of the most wonderful woman in the world.
"It's ok we can stay." Beca told her.
"You're sure?" Chloe asked. Beca nodded and put on a smile that Chloe knew was fake. This is not how I imagined this night would go. Chloe thought
"Hi, I'm Beth nice to meet you." The woman introduced herself and shook Beca's hand. "This is Jeff, he's another doctor that I work with." She introduced them. "I'm sorry I hijacked your dinner I just haven't seen my girl in a few weeks." She possessively pulled Chloe towards her. Beca resisted the urge to roll her eyes. At least part of Beca felt better when Chloe pulled herself away from the other woman. They all sat down Beca sitting at the table in between Chloe and Jeff and sitting across from Beth. The other woman eyed Beca suspiciously.
The waiter came to get their drink orders and Beth took it upon herself to try to order a bottle of wine for the table. "None for me thanks. I'll have water." Beca interrupted her.
"Me too." Chloe added smiling apologetically to Beca.
"Its fine I planned on getting the bill if that's what you're worried about." Beth said smugly. Wow. Really?
"Actually I have to be at the studio early tomorrow."
"Beca's working with Demi Lovato." Chloe said proudly. "She's an amazing producer."
"I'm sure. I saw that you got nominated for a Grammy this year. Shame you didn't win." Beth fake smiled and everyone at the table could tell she was belittling her. Chloe huffed.
"I'm sure her seven others can more than make up for it." She defended but Beth just went on talking like she didn't say anything wrong. What a bitch.
"It's ok Chlo."
"So Chloe told me that you guys recently got back in touch, is that right?"
"Uh,Yeah." Beca nodded and stared at Chloe. "It's been great hanging out with her again and getting to know Charlie, he's amazing." She said making Chloe smile. The two got lost in each other trying to read what the other was feeling at the moment. Beth noticed the look that passed between the two and cleared her throat.
"So why did you two stop talking in the first place?" She sneered trying to get a rise out of Beca and effectively breaking the moment between the two.
"That's kind of between Beca and I." Chloe defended while Beca's dislike for the woman grew with each passing second.
"I'm just curious, if you two were such good friends then-"
"It was the biggest mistake that I've ever made." Beca interrupted catching Chloe's eyes again but she released them to glare at Beth. "But now I'm back in her life I'm not going anywhere, until she tells me otherwise." She declared making sure that Beth got the point and making Chloe inwardly swoon. While Beth and Beca seemed to be in some sort of stare down Jeff and Chloe could feel the rising tension between the two. Jeff cleared his throat and spoke trying to break the tension.
"So Chloe…how have you been?" Chloe smiled at them, she only met the man a few times but he was a good guy. She didn't really know why Beth and he were friends, they were so different from each other. While Beth always wanted to be the center attention and was a bit narcissistic and Jeff was quiet and reserved.
"I've been good Jeff. Did you get that grant that you wanted?" She asked and he nodded and proceeded to tell her the specifics but she got distracted in her own mind. It was really pissing Chloe off that Beth seemed to have a vendetta against Beca, she was going to make sure that she ended this relationship tonight. But that meant she wouldn't be able to tell Beca her feelings quite yet. I could just reach over and kiss her…That probably wouldn't go well though. Chloe thought as Jeff and Beth droned on about something. She and Beca kept stealing glances at each other. Chloe got her phone out of her purse and received an arched eyebrow from Beca. She sent out a text and Beca soon felt her phone vibrate. She ignored it and Chloe sent out another mouthing for her to look at it. Beca sighed and pulled out her phone looking at the text.
I know I'm breaking the rules but this is so boring.
I'm so sorry about them. I had no idea.
*I know, its ok.*
I really wanted to talk to you about something really important though.
*Me too. Maybe you and Charlie could come over to my house tomorrow? I kinda made a movie date with him anyway. And after he goes to sleep we can talk?*
I would like that.
*You look really nice by the way ;)* Chloe looked up from the phone smiling at Beca. She really wanted to just reach across and kiss her, but seeing how that would probably cause a big scene she refrained. They were lost in each other that they missed the glare that Beth was shooting them. Chloe looked back down at the phone on her lap and typed away.
Thank you. You look very beautiful as well. Beca read the text and began blushing profusely. After some more small talk and snide comments from Beth their dinner finally came which Beca was thankful for. This night was supposed to be the night she told the woman of her dreams she loved her. Instead she was eating dinner with psycho Beth and this Jeff guy. At least Jeff was cool enough not to try and flirt with her or anything. She had the feeling he wanted to be here as much as she did. Unfortunately Beth asked to see the desert menu after dinner though. She seemed completely unaware that the other three members did not want to be there. That or she simply didn't care. She had been trying to be super sweet to Chloe all dinner but it simply wasn't working. Chloe acted disinterested and kept stealing glances towards Beca. With the way things were looking Chloe seemed like she didn't want to be near Beth either which made Beca happy.
"Look babe, they have strawberry ice cream. Your favorite." Beth said pointed at the menu. Chloe subtly rolled her eyes and Beca smirked.
"Actually, that's not her favorite ice cream." Beca interrupted. "She likes strawberry and has it a lot but her absolute favorite is Ben and Jerry's Banana Peanut Butter. It's disgusting."
"It is not! It's delicious!"
"And you only eat it when you're super upset."
"I can't believe you remember that!"
"Why not? The first time I brought you the wrong kind of ice cream and you threw it back at me and told me to get out. Of course I'm going to remember after that." Beca laughed and Chloe gasped.
"I did not!"
"You so did! I remember because you got ice cream all over me! I made the mistake of getting just regular peanut butter cup because I couldn't find the other. It was after you failed one of your midterms junior year."
"Oh my god I do remember that!" They both laughed remembering that day. Beth who apparently was feeling left out decided to cut in.
"Well that's good to know for future reference." She awkwardly laughed along sobering the other two up. She put her arm over Chloe but looked at Beca. "Guess I didn't know that because I haven't upset her yet." She said smugly. Chloe was trying to shrug her arm off when all of a sudden she was being pulled forward and into a kiss. Her eyes widened and she tried to pull back but Beth put her hand in red hair pulling her back to her deepening the kiss.
Beca felt her blood run cold and all color drain from her face. She looked away disgusted as she tried to keep her cool. She missed Chloe all but pushing Beth away. Beca dropped her napkin on the table and stood up. She didn't look at Chloe but she saw Beth's arrogant smile and everything that was behind it.
"I'm going to get some air." Chloe stood as well seeing the hurt in Beca's eyes.
"Beca, wait."
"I just need a minute Chloe." Chloe hesitated but let Beca walk off obviously needed a minute alone. Chloe stared at her as she walked out of the restaurant. Chloe was seething. She knew Beth had done that on purpose. She had been taking digs at Beca all night and shamelessly flaunting Chloe in front of her. Acting as if Chloe was some sort of prize she won. Chloe for the most part was able to shrug off most of her advances. She sat back down and turned towards her girlfriend.
"What was that?"
"What?" Beth acted innocent. "I was just kissing my girlfriend. It's not my fault she has a thing for you."
"Is that was this whole night was about? Proving that I was yours and you weren't going to share!" About that time the waiter came with a message.
"Miss Mitchell has paid for dinner and wished everyone a good night, but said she wasn't feeling well." Chloe thanked him and grabbed her purse standing up. She looked back at Beth glaring at her.
"By the way I'm not yours and I never really was. I'm sorry to do this in front of Jeff but if you wouldn't have kept cancelling on me and had waited until tomorrow I would have told you that this isn't working out and saved you the embarrassment. And now I see you're just an immature woman with a larger than life ego. Do not call me." She said as she huffed towards the door calling Beca's phone.
Beca saw that Chloe it was calling. She hit the ignore button tossing her phone in the passenger seat. She couldn't deal with her right now. How could I have been so stupid? Was the question she kept asking herself as she drove aimlessly. She was so sure that Chloe felt the same way she did. I knew she had a girlfriend why did I let myself go there? She thought about it for a while but then she started looking back at the past few months. She knew she wasn't wrong about the chemistry they had. The almost kisses, spending every weekend together. And she wasn't going to give up without a fight.
