The next morning Sebastian was ready and had signed his discharge papers before Hunter had even arrived. He was stood outside when Hunter's car pulled up.
"Hey," he smiled as he climbed into the passenger's seat.
"What's wrong, you look tired, your eyes are puffy." Hunter stated worriedly and Sebastian rolled his eyes.
"I know you're a doctor Hunter but seriously, I'm fine, Baby Boy seemed to dislike the bed and kept me up kicking and moving around all night."
"You should have a sleep when we get back." Hunter said as he started the car but Sebastian had other ideas. He needed to talk to Hunter, they needed to have an actual grown up conversation. They were silent the whole way home and even as they opened the door to the house but once it was shut Sebastian spoke up.
"Are we ever going to talk about it?"
"What do you mean?" Hunter asked as he moved a blanket from the sofa.
"You slept downstairs?"
"Yeah, it didn't feel right sleeping upstairs." Hunter stated and Sebastian sighed.
"We fucked, okay? We slept together, we should acknowledge it and talk about it." Sebastian said and Hunter began to shake his head.
"No, we agreed it was once remember, we don't need to discuss it,"
"Fine, I want to discuss it," Sebastian shrugged.
"Too bad." Hunter said in a final tone before moving into the kitchen and pulling a bottle of water from the fridge. "Drink?"
"Sure." He nodded as he took the bottle from his ex. When their fingers brushed the baby gave a hard kick which made Sebastian gasp and move his other hand to the top of his bump. "Easy tiger,"
"Are you okay?" Hunter asked taking a step towards Sebastian.
"Yeah, feel," Sebastian said and reached out to grip Hunter's hand before laying it over the spot where the baby kicked him. They both waited in anticipation until it eventually happened.
"That's amazing," Hunter stated and Sebastian nodded in agreement.
"It sure is." After the moment of magic in the kitchen the pair set about preparing dinner together while they played the radio. Rebekah and Thad had called earlier to make sure that Sebastian was okay, she wanted to stay but she knew Hunter would take care of him and she had somewhere to be. The pair said they'd be back for the Sterling and Duval wedding in a weeks' time so she could check on him then.
The pair were stood side by side when a song they both knew well began to play. Paramore Still into You began to play from the radio and the pair began to sing along. When the song was over they began to laugh, it was a rare moment where they both completely forgot that they weren't together and that was always nice. Hunter glanced at the clock and realised that he had to go pick Alex up from school so he left Sebastian in charge of dinner.
Alex was stood with her princess bag, at the gate waiting when Hunter pulled up in the school car park. There was her and two other students waiting with their teacher, who recognised him instantly.
"Hello, Mr Clarington," she smiled as she opened the passenger side for her student to climb in.
"Hi, she been good?" he asked as he looked towards his daughter who wore a frown.
"I always am dad." Alex smiled proudly.
"Indeed, yes Mr Clarington, she's been very good." The teacher smiled as she shut the door.
"Thank you." He smiled before heading back to their home. He knew by the way the woman was smiling at him that she liked him, or found him attractive and he would admit he found it flattering. He would also say that he flirted back but it was missing something, a spark, he needed to find someone where there was a spark. An instant zing, where he knew there was a something and there could be a relationship. It was like that when he first met Sebastian, although he thought he was one-hundred percent straight but he still found Sebastian attractive. It was the alcohol that gave him the Dutch courage to act on his thoughts, this led to Alex, who he loves more than anything and now five years on they weren't together and no one gave him that jolt.
"We're home!" Alex hollered when they entered the front door.
"Hey, just in time for dinner," Sebastian smiled as he finished pouring the gravy onto everyone's plate.
"It smells amazing," Hunter smiled as he and Alex took a seat at the table. Sebastian set the plates down and Hunter's eyes widened at the amount of food on Sebastian's plate.
"What?" Sebastian asked looking between Alex and Hunter.
"Daddy, that's a lot of food," she pointed out and Hunter nodded.
"She's got a point, Seb," Hunter chuckled when the pregnant man pouted.
"I'm eating for two people for now, I have a reason," Sebastian said with a smug smile.
"But daddy, the baby is only tiny." Alex insisted and Hunter was biting the inside of his cheek to stop himself from bursting into a fit of chuckles.
"It's a small, hungry little thing," Sebastian laughed as he shoved some swede into his mouth which seemed to tip Hunter over the edge.
"It's funny because she's right and that's just a lot of food." He breathed out in between fits of laughter. Alex joined in with the laughter and eventually so did Sebastian. It was a family dinner, a real one. After they'd finished Alex asked if she could watch a film but Hunter told her she had to read some of her book but she could watch it tomorrow so she dragged her feet as she went upstairs. "I'll go and read with her," Hunter smiled as he laid down the tea towel.
"Drink?"
"Do you even have to ask?" Sebastian smiled at that and pulled out two mugs. While the kettle boiled he thought back to when Hunter lived there and this was their routine. One would put Alex to bed and the other would make a drink and set up a movie. Then they would alternate and today was apparently Hunter's turn.
He made the teas and sat on the sofa just as Hunter came down.
"You are amazing." He sighed as he took the warm beverage.
"There was no screaming so it can't have been all bad." Sebastian sighed and Hunter gave him a 'you weren't there' look.
"She was slow at everything and just was being a pain."
"She's in bed now so you can relax," There was a moments silence before Hunter spoke again.
"Yeah, I'm just gonna head straight to sleep I think." He said looking at the sofa hoping Sebastian would get the hint.
"You don't have to stay on the sofa."
"Yeah I do."
"You really don't, it can't be comfortable."
"Stop it, Seb, please,"
"Why? Is it because you're seeing someone?" Sebastian asked with caution as he thought back to when Alex asked him who Sarah was.
"How did you, Alex told you didn't she?" Hunter asked looking to the floor embarrassed.
"She asked who Sarah was and that you said she was a friend,"
"We have a date on Saturday," Hunter admitted and Sebastian nodded.
"She's lucky." Sebastian nodded before untangling his legs from beneath him and running to his room. He laid and told himself he as giving up, Hunter didn't love him anymore. Sebastian finally understood closure.
