12: Third Night
Shine and I walked through the desert. We had enough food for three more meals, but then we would have to find more resources. As we sat down to have our second to last meal from the cornucopia, we ate in silence. Shine looked traumatized, and for a moment I thought that I should let him win. But then I remembered: I have to win. Besides, nobody decent ever wins the games.
Shine spoke then. "We need to fight the career pack. There are four left. The three others… I don't know. Maybe they'll kill each other. I don't want it to get down to just you and me, I don't think I could kill you."
"I will kill you without a second glance. Shit ain't personal, strictly business."
He looked at me worried, but then we both burst out into laughter.
We packed up our stuff and moved on. That night, we just slept out in the open. Shine takes first watch. As I slept, I had yet another nightmare. This time, the spider had Georgh's face. It came to me and wrapped its legs around me. Then, its stinger stabbed my side. It hurt so much…
Then I woke up, sweating. Luckily, Shine was just getting tired, so I took watch. They then showed the faces of the fallen tributes. I saw Georgh and the boy from 8. I don't really remember him, but I think he was good at swordplay in training. I try not to think about it too much, but then it gets to be too much. The capitol wants us dead, because of our ancestors. Can't we just hg each other and walk away? No, that mentality will get me killed for sure. How can I think like that, and then kill everyone else?
I hear footsteps behind me, and instantly turn around and throw my scythe into their chest. The body crumples. It was the girl from 10. Shine wakes up, and grabs his knives. He sees something behind me, and throws his knife into the 10 male's face. There are two cannon shots. We grab our stuff and keep heading north, back towards the cornucopia. We've eaten all of our food now, we need more supplies, plus we have to kill the careers.
