Chapter Twelve:

March 20, 2012

"Lorraine Williams went missing from Georgetown's main library last night just as it was closing," the local news reporter relayed as Rori turned down the volume to a low whisper. The reporter stood outside the main administrative building of Georgetown. The reporter spoke with an expressionless face and an equally expressionless monotone. Letting out a disgusted grunt, Rori slid off the couch and started mumbling to herself.

"I told them! I told them another girl was going to be taken," she said. "I said the timeline was going to pick up. I told them that those sickos were going to stay local. Did they listen? No." She shook her head turning off the TV, knowing that it would be the same answer over and over again. Gathering up her school books, Rori headed for the stairs. "What good is the system if it doesn't do its job?"

"That's not fair, Rori," Dave said coming from the living room where he had heard Rori's bitter mumbles from across the hall. "The system works within its means."

Rori didn't even look at her father as she climbed the stairs. Dave let out a tired sigh, rubbing his face before moving to massage his temples. "I'm getting too old for this. I really don't need my daughter mad at me."

"She's not mad at you," Kyle said from behind him. The two had been talking about Kyle's possibility of being at the Academy in the fall and they had heard the news story and Rori's mumbles. "She's mad that there are a gang of men hurting people like her friends."

Rossi's phone began to ring and he glanced at the name. Hotch. He took this as a good sign that Rori wouldn't be angry for much longer. Putting the phone up to his ear he answered. "Are we being brought in?" A second later he let out the breath that he had been holding. He hung up and looked at Kyle. "I'm headed to the BAU, keep an eye on Rori. The last thing I need is her getting into trouble."

"I don't babysit my sister!" Kyle snapped. "Nonetheless, I'm sure I can convince her to sit down and watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy with me. Just catch some bad guys and all will be right with the Rossi household." He smiled as he started climbing the stairs.

David stood with Morgan near the main library of Georgetown. "I think I'm going to keep Rori home while we're working this case," Dave said. He could see how the crime could happen. Even the cameras couldn't see past the skeleton masks. The abduction happened late at night where no one was around, the cameras saw them coming, but the abduction happened in a blind spot. Three men grabbed Lorraine and hit her with a stun gun. Then they carried her to a concealed van where the fourth man waited. It only took a couple of minutes. "These punks move with precision and they know exactly where each camera is. They had to have studied this area well before they made their moves."

"But how would they know that the girls would be here at the library the days they were taken?" Morgan asked. He glanced around and gestured around. "Every college student is different. Sometimes they study in their rooms, other times at the library, other times in a coffee shop. How did the kidnappers know that these girls were going to be at the library and still have enough time to check this place out? It doesn't make sense."

Rossi grumbled. None of this made sense. Both Natalie and Lorraine were grabbed from the library. "Have we checked out all the people who work at the Library? Are there any recent hires?" he asked. It seemed like the obvious answer, but maybe it would get them somewhere."

"No. All of them are either students or have been with the university for years." Morgan stated.

"Have you checked the guest sign in sheet?"

Dave and Morgan turned around to find Kenta holding a stack of books that he had presumably picked up from the library.

"What?"

Kenta shrugged. "Most colleges allow guest access to their libraries, but you have to show identification. Have you checked the logs at the universities? Maybe there will be a name in common. Or maybe you can rule out possible names by asking why they were at the library." He looked around and walked closer to the two agents. "Also, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to stop Rori from coming to school no matter what you said."

Dave looked at Kenta as if he had just found a vault of fresh Cuban cigars. "Who do we talk to in order to see the guestbook?"

"Main desk should have it," Kenta answered. He attempted to look at his watch. "I have to go. I have a programming class to get to."

"Thanks Kenta." Morgan nodded as the college student started to walk away. He started making his way into the library. Rossi followed closely behind.

"Why didn't we think of that?" Rossi asked.

"We're not college students and don't go to college libraries," Morgan answered. "Garcia would have brought it up probably. Or Reid. Definitely Reid." He walked up to the front desk of the library and greeted a studying college student.

"Hi. How can I help you?" the student asked.

Morgan pulled out his credentials and smiled. "I'm Agent Morgan with the FBI, I was wondering if I could look at your guest book for two nights ago and then again on February 27."

The student hesitated as she looked at the credentials, apparently not willing to believe it was actually the FBI. "Would you mind if I called my boss to get those for you?" she asked timidly.

"Sure," Rossi smiled at her. He knew all too well that students were just working in libraries and other places on campus so that they could eat. It was natural for them to take all avenues possible in order to keep their jobs. He watched as a student passed through the anti-theft devices as they swiped their cards. He was willing to bet that there was a log of all of the students who had come in and out of the library. "Can we also get a log of all the students who have entered the library?"

The student nodded as she dialed a number on the phone. The two agents looked at each other. "I think Reid is going to have to read through these logs if we're to get through them quickly," Morgan sighed, sensing that even though they were possibly closer to answers, it was still going to be a process to find out who was hurting college girls.

"Gordon Walsh," Reid spoke up from his spot on the floor. He had been scouring the names of people who had signed into the guest books at the eight colleges where the rapes had taken place. "He's shown up at Baltimore, Virginia Tech, and Georgetown."

"But not at the other schools?" Morgan asked pushing himself out of his seat.

"Not yet," Reid answered. "But that makes sense. Most of the women taken were taken on their way home or to the dorms. It wasn't at the library like the others. That would suggest that the library abductions were a change to something that could be much more controllable."

"I'll have Garcia look into Gordon Walsh. Do any of those come with a license number of some sort?" Morgan wrote down the name as it was shown on the guest log.

Reid shook his head before he grabbed another set of photocopies and started searching through them. Places like NYU got many visitors, but other, much smaller universities took very little time. So far he had been looking over the guest records for an hour trying to keep names in his head long enough for him to remember them all. Provided he wasn't met with any distractions in the long run, he could finish looking through the books by the end of the next hour. He scanned the pages again and stopped on another name. "Matthew Martinez."

"Two names, that's good," Rossi said. "Where did he show up?"

Morgan added the name before he left the conference room.

"Boston and NYU," Reid answered consulting the Boston logs. He looked at Rossi. "Walsh wasn't in the library when Natalie was taken. His name only showed up recently for Lorraine's abduction." Reid stood up slowly to stretch his legs and walked around a couple times so that he didn't lose all feeling in his legs. Still he held the log for NYU and read the names.

Rossi just stared for a moment before walking out of the conference room so that Reid was left to his own devices. Rossi had just spent the last two hours looking over Georgetown's records for who had swiped their cards as they entered the library, and he kept track of who came in and left. He was writing down some names even though the likelihood of it leading anywhere was slim to none. Still every avenue had to be checked and if there was a possibility of an inside man, Rossi wanted to have names to look at. The problem was that too many students used the library on a day-to-day basis to have the list be any good until they had something to cross-reference the list with. Dave had already eliminated the people who had come and gone before Natalie or Lorraine had entered the library in the evening, so that was helpful, but there were still fifty names.

"I'm going to make some coffee," Rossi muttered.

Author's Note: I didn't think it would take me three months to get an update out… But then the chaotic life of living on my own happened, and school started, and I haven't really had time to sit down and write. However, I'm determined to change that. . . Because let's be real. I miss writing for fun. And I can manage my time well enough now to a point where I think I have it figured out.

Anyway, I'm on a rampage to get these written and posted. So… maybe you'll get another chapter before the semester ends… Well, you will get another chapter. And hopefully you won't have to wait so long.
