Scott sat quietly in the corner of the room while Derek slept off the Kanima venom. He relaxed as soon as the burns from the cattle prod started to heal and picked up Derek's tablet to fight off the trepidation in his heart. The memory of Derek lying in the street, helpless and at the mercy of the hunters was fresh in his mind and the taste of adrenaline bit his tongue with the thought of leaving him to save Erica. He could hear her crying from the basement until Stiles and Isaac dragged her to the depot, but he couldn't make his legs carry him down the the room, not until he knew Derek would be okay. It would be too easy to choke the life out of her eyes in his anger, and that right should be reserved for the Alpha.

Sighing heavily, he started tapping through applications in an attempt to find one to occupy his mind. He frowned at the email subject that popped on the screen as he played solitaire. "Grade report?" his eyes flicked to Derek, making sure he was still asleep before he clicked open the email and found a progress report with his name at the top. It had been redirected from the Coach and Scott could only assume it was the one that teachers submitted to team coaches to ensure their eligibility. He studied it for a moment, noticing that his grades were actually improving, before marking it unread and closing the mail client app. Forcing out a stress filled breath, Scott reminded himself that Derek was his Alpha and that he was always sticking his nose in pack business to make sure they were okay.

He shook the thoughts from his mind until he found the iSpy app. Fingers shaking, he tapped on the icon and found a series of web cams currently being monitored by Derek. The first four were around the house, which Scott understood as he searched for anything disturbed around the perimeter of the house. The last three however, were various angles of Scott's house. His front door, outside his bedroom window and the hallway in front of his room were all staring back at him with heart stopping clarity. The only thing that seemed to keep him calm was the complete lack of invasion in his room. Scott could feel his heart pounding in his chest as he jumped up and fled the room. He dropped the tablet on his bed and climbed out the window onto the roof to get some air.

A lot of crap had invaded his life with his position in the pack. He lost count of the number of people who dumped their problems in his lap. He no longer had any say over whether Derek interfered with McCall family issues that shouldn't be mentioned by outsiders, like bill collectors or child support. But Scott wasn't sure he could handle being spied on by the Alpha, especially when it was clear that Derek wasn't watching any of the other wolves that still lived at home.

He shivered despite the warm night and waited for the pack leader to wait from his slumber. It was time they had a talk.

.

"There's something you aren't telling me." Scott crashed on the stool across the counter from his Alpha.

Derek was downing a cup of coffee, desperately fighting off the exhaustion of the last few hours. "What are you talking about?"

A tablet was placed on the counter and Derek immediately identified it as his. The current screen showed the three camera angles surrounding Scott's house. "Gotta say I'm a little creeped out."

Derek shrugged. "Pack takes…"

"Don't." Scott tapped a few commands on the screen. "Don't say it's a pack thing. Stiles, Boyd and Jackson still live at home and none of them are under surveillance. You also don't go psycho repair man when something breaks in Stiles' house." He pushed the tablet across the counter, showing progress reports from Scott's teachers about his grades improving. "Why are you stalking me?"

Derek groaned, not ready for where the conversation was about to head. He listened for a moment, making sure they were the only ones in the house, before refilling his coffee and sliding one over to Scott. "It's a long story."

"I've got four hours until school." Scott crossed his arms, not about to give in this time.

"You're my son."

Scott sat in stunned silence for a moment, waiting for Derek to indicate that he was kidding. When he realized that the Alpha wasn't taking back his comment, he fought for any coherent thought that he could manage. "Seemed pretty short to me."

Derek frowned at the color draining from Scott's face. "I told you about Kate."

"Oh, God. Please don't tell me that she was my mother; I dated her niece. That's just wrong."

"No." The vehement growl soothed Scott's panic slightly. "I was trying to get over her, what she did to the family and I got drunk at a party. Your mother was a few years older than me, sixteen I think. I barely knew her and Laura and I had already been sent to Great Uncle Grady's before she even knew she was pregnant." He rubbed his eyes. "I tracked her down after I saw you in the woods and realized who you were. Her parents made her give you up for adoption and she didn't bother to tell me about you."

"What was her name?" Scott felt his hands tremble as he listened to the story. He knew he was adopted, but he never would have imagined all those times his father told him that even his birth parents didn't want him that it was true. He always imagined that they were dead because it was easier to reconcile in his mind.

"Heather Donaldson. Did you want to talk to her?"

"I already have a mother." Scott watched Derek flinch and found himself asking a question but wasn't sure he wanted the answer. "Would you have kept me? If you knew?"

"I was only fourteen." He placed a reassuring hand on Scott's shoulder. "But Laura and I had just buried our entire family. There is no way we would have given you up if I knew."

Scott felt his muscles relax a little. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I wasn't sure you knew you were adopted, not to mention you were convinced I was the bad guy." Derek smirked at Scott's flinch. "And you already had a father."

"No I didn't." Scott's eyes flashed blue with anger. "He was never my father."

Derek studied him carefully before growling in fury. "How long?"

"What?"

"How long did he hurt you?" Derek crowded his son, studying him intently to make sure he wasn't lying when he responded.

"Six years." Scott ducked away from the anger he felt pouring off Derek, flinching when his newly revealed father reached out for him, but the Alpha finally gave in to his instincts and pulled him into a hug.

"Why didn't your mother leave him?"

"She did, twice." Scott shivered at the memories. "He found us and put her in the hospital both times. It wasn't until Stiles moved in next door that things changed." He took a trembling breath, fighting the panic. "Henry knew people on the force but finally when Mr. Stilinski took over as sheriff someone started to listen to her." Scott pulled away awkwardly. "We have a restraining order. He's not allowed within fifty miles of us so he told her that if she didn't want him around then she didn't need his money either and he wasn't paying child support."

Derek snarled, his eyes shifting red. "He won't get within a hundred miles." He moved back to the other side of the island and reclaimed his coffee to ease the tense silence. He met Henry McCall when he stormed into his Sacramento office two months ago and demanded the he pay all of the back support payments owed to Scott's mother, but he hadn't realized the damage Henry was responsible for inflicting on his son and ex-wife. The odds were good that he would have dropped Henry out the window of his twelfth floor apartment if he knew.

Scott sat stirring his drink absently as he reflected on everything that was said. He frowned when he started to pull his thoughts back in order. "How did you know who I was?"

Derek sighed and rolled his eyes. "Focus on your senses." He watched his son close his eyes. "Do you feel anything different about me compared to the rest of the pack?"

"You smell like me?"

The quizzical look on Scott's face was exasperating to the Alpha. "Because we are from the same bloodline. I knew you weren't Laura's because she never had any kids, you couldn't have been Peter's because he was in a coma at the time and the rest of our family died before you were conceived. I was the only Hale left. When I found Heather I was sure." Derek waited for a minute to see if Scott had any more questions before changing the subject to something equally explosive. "Where is Erica?"

Scott eyes flashed as he growled. "Isaac is watching her in the depot. I was afraid I would kill her if she stayed here."

Derek studied him curiously. Even with her idiotic run in with the Kanima and Derek's capture, Scott wasn't prone to hurting a member of his pack. "What else happened?"

"She sabotaged her restraints so she could break free during the full moon. She was going to try to force you into claiming her as alpha female." His son snarled angrily at the thought of her manipulations.

Derek growled, snapping the handle off his cup. Apparently, he hadn't been clear enough that he wanted nothing to do with a sixteen year old in his bed. "She told you this?"

"No, Isaac dragged it out of her while we were rescuing you." Scott breathed heavily, trying to calm down. "She thought she deserved to have a higher rank then me, but she knew she would never defeat me in a fight."

Derek poured the rest of his coffee in the sink and dumped the ruined mug in the trash. "Come on. I'll give you a ride home on the way there."

AN. Sorry to those of you who are counting on daily updates, but this is the last for a week. I will be sans technology for a while.
