Previously on Frenemies:
Sakura had never seen him sincere, he wasn't being smug, nor arrogant, he was being sweet again, "Sasuke..."
"You deserve someone who will give you what you want, someone like..." he stopped, hesitating because he couldn't bring himself to admit it, "...someone like Gaara, not me."
Was he serious? She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, He didn't seriously believe that after that kiss she could just move on to someone else that easily...but one look at his expression and she knew he did. He really, genuinely believed that she preferred Gaara over him.
"He can't give me what I want...because I want you, Sasuke."
"I want you, Sasuke Uchiha," she repeated in a much more sharper tone, "To get the hell out of my room because I- I won't fall for your stupid tricks anymore!"
"That's perfectly fine with me." He responded, seemingly unaffected by her words. He had expected that much, after all she was worthy of someone better, "I'll stay out of your life, if you stay out of mine."
She shook her head, "That's not what I meant-" she tried to amend, she didn't mean to be that harsh, "We can try to be friends-"
"Tch I highly doubt we can be friends."
"Sasuke..." she began, taking his hand in hers, "I uh, I still want you to leave because I don't want to act on impulse but I- just know that I don't want you out of my life."
Sakura saw his lips twitching up slightly into a small smirk, "Hn, is that so?" He flirted lightly pulling her to him.
She felt her own lips curl up into a smile of their own but she nodded in response, "Yeah but that won't happen if we're both dead because Tsunade sensei will have our heads if she finds you here."
"Aah." He agreed, about to pull away and listen to her but before he could, she pulled him down by the collar so she could plant a peck on his cheek.
Sakura felt more than enough satisfaction when she saw the look of surprise on his face, it was priceless. He glared at her when she started laughing at him.
"Sakura," he tried but she kept giggling.
Seeing that she wasn't about to stop laughing anytime soon he began walking out of the room.
"Sasuke!" she called out, still laughing, he paused looking back at her, "Your face!" she continued laughing holding her sides.
Rolling his eyes he exited the door with a playful smirk.
Tenten followed Neji through the running path of the forest, he had said he knew the path but it didn't seem like it.
"Uh Neji I think we should have gone the other way dude." She said as she slowed down next to him.
Neji scowled, "Are you implying that I made a mistake?"
Tenten stopped in her tracks, "Uh yeah I mean we're lost because of you, I'm following you because you said you knew the route. Plus, doesn't the fact that the rest of the team hasn't caught up yet give you a hint."
He sighed, annoyed with her sass, but took out his phone to check their location. He tried to pinpoint their location but he had no connection, "I don't have any bars."
He expected her to begin scolding him but she didn't instead she nodded, eyes furrowed with determination, "Alright, so what if we just go back the way we came from." She began brainstorming.
He looked behind her, "Which one of those did we come out of?" he asked.
She turned around.
Her face fell.
"Shit." she cursed under her breath.
"Do you think he's good in bed?" She asked him casually, pointing at a random stranger.
They were both sitting in the cafeteria, waiting for their food to arrive. Ino had seen Temari and Shikamaru but had decided to give them their space. Temari had not seen her yet but she was sure Shikamaru had because he was facing the entrance of the cafeteria and had seen when she entered.
"I do not know what you're referring to."
To this, Ino casually explained the terms used to talk about hooking up.
"Sai, why is a hunk like you so clueless, seriously glad I found you so I could polish you for some lucky lady."
He smiled, still awkwardly but better than the first time he smiled at her, "So Ino-chan if I were to tell a girl that-"
"Just tell me how you would tell her, explanations aside."
"Can we go somewhere more secluded-"
"you lost me at secluded, use more casual words like private or say can I talk to you privately, use pet names too like babe or something to make it less awkward."
"Right," he nodded, "Babe I need to talk to you privately." He tried.
"Hm not feeling it, sounds too eh ya' know?" She shrugged .
He took her by the hands and looked into her eyes, "Babe can we talk, privately?"
Ino actually felt herself giggle, and not because Sai was super charming, but because it was a funny sight, seeing him attempt something so simple in her book but so arduous looking to him.
"Sorry we have to worst timing!" Temari interrupted, "We didn't mean to-"
"What's up?" Ino said retrieving her hands from Sai's after seeing how Shikamaru's stare hardened when he glanced at them.
She seriously did not understand this guy, one day he's all prince charming and the next he's like another ice king just like the three musketeers plus Naruto. One thing she did understand for sure was that she had to forget about him because he had a girlfriend and she had promised herself that she wouldn't be that girl. She wouldn't serve as a barricade in a relationship.
"We were about to eat but then we saw you. Aren't you gonna invite us to sit?"
Ino grinned cheerily, "Of course Tem-"
"I think they want to be alone." Shikamaru interjected before she could finish.
Temari's mouth formed into an 'o', "Right, you have company," she winked.
Sai only sat quietly observing drinking his water.
"Don't worry, we don't talk dirty in public." she joked, playing along. Temari laughed and she sat down along with Shikamaru who sat hesitantly.
Sai accidently choked on his water at that exact moment. He hadn't meant to because he really didn't understand the meaning behind talking dirty. But that's not what it appeared like to Temari and Shikamaru.
"Oh my gosh, Sai! Are you okay?" She aided him, taking his face in her hands. He nodded, coughing and trying to clear his throat.
Shikamaru stood up, skillfully pushing Ino off of Sai, "Move, you're suffocating him," he lied, "You're suppose to pat him in the back like this." He said while pounding on Sai's back a little too harshly.
"I don't think that helps him- I read in this article I found in Sakura's bookshelf that doing this," Ino explained, reaching to stop Shikamaru's hand, "Is of no use and to allow it to subside on its own." she finished, ignoring the shiver that ran down her spine when her hand made contact with Shikamaru's.
Shikamaru looked into her eyes and saw that she was annoyed, but he didn't have a chance to retort or assuage his scew up, "He was only trying to help Ino."
What was he thinking? He felt a feeling akin to remorse building up inside of him, how could he have let jealousy lead him to influence his actions. He never allowed his instinct act on its own, he had self control.
"Right," she eyerolled when she was facing Sai, not at the pair, "Hey are you ok?" she asked him, truly concerned, when he nodded Ino turned to them, "So what'd you guys order?" She asked in a calmer manner.
Sakura quietly observed the pair in front of her.
Naruto had his arm around Hinata's chair, sitting pretty close to her and she was constantly blushing.
"Open up," he ordered her childishly, feeding her with his spoon.
Hinata acquiesced, taking the mouthful of food, giggling every time.
"I'm seriously about to barf." Sakura commented dryly.
"That's how I feel when the teme talks about you." Naruto blurted out accidently.
Sakura's ears perked up, suddenly interested, "He talks about me?"
Naruto scratched his neck, "I wasn't supposed to say that," he mumbled, feeling his stomach drop, "But what I was suppose to do was give you the bastard's number, he's too chicken to ask for your number so just text him, he's been wanting to ask for it." He told her grinning, extending his hand for her phone so she could put his number as a contact.
She placed her phone on his palm.
"No password?" he asked incredulously.
Sakura shrugged, "I haven't had time to set it up again."
Naruto still had her phone and he looked like he was about to burst out laughing any moment.
Sakura noticed he was taking a bit to long to save a contact number in his phone and gave him an odd look, "What are you doing?"
Naruto just bursted out laughing.
Hinata looked confused at why he was laughing, "Naruto-kun, what-"
Sakura was not alarmed, thinking he had just found something funny on her phone but then she realized...
"What did you send him?" She panicked, lunging forward for her phone, snatching it from his hand.
To: the love of my life
Hey baby, its your favorite pink-haired vixen (;
sent at 6:38 pm
Naruto was crying tears of laughter now, and Sakura was still gaping at the message.
"Oh shit," she groaned into her hands, covering her face, "Kami kill me now- no better yet, I'm going to kill you."
Before she could punch the lights out of him her phone vibrated.
She checked who the message was from
From: the love of my life
who was it Ino or Naruto?
sent 6:40 pm
Sakura sighed in relief, and looked up at Naruto still glaring, "You're off the hook for this one."
It had gotten dark and Tenten was starting to worry, she had never gotten lost in a forest, she hadn't been to a forest till today!
Neji had given her his sweatshirt because all she had worn was her soccer shorts and a sports bra.
"I-Neji, I'm scared," She admitted, sitting down on a rock nearby, her feet were killing her, she had been running since sixth period, and it was already night! "I mean what if we never get out and I never see my friends! I mean I don't have blood related family but I have people that care about me, I don't want to make them worry... I just- I just want to get out of here and- and I... don't know." she expressed.
Neji squatted down beside her, "Hey, it'll be alright." He consoled, gazing into her chocolate orbs.
She was trembling with fear and her eyes looked like they were about to pour, "But what if, what if we don't make it and we-"
Something inside Neji stirred, he didn't know if it was pity or an emotion that felt extremely akin to one that he had swore off.
"Sh," he hushed her, lifting her face from her chin, "Worrying won't get us anywhere."
She nodded, "Thank you." She said in a calmer tone, standing up with renewed determination.
"Let's look this wa-"
They heard the familiar sound of the school bell.
Tenten looked at Neji but he was already following the noise, "Come on." He told her.
She nodded running with him towards the noise before they couldn't hear it anymore.
The ran through the grove that hid their view of the school's light.
As soon as the school building came into view, Tenten pulled Neji into a hug, laughing in relief, "The school was behind these bushes this whole time!" She giggled, pulling away, still smiling at Neji, "Damn, I feel so stupid."
"Same." he muttered, he also had a relieved expression resting upon his features, he wouldn't admit it out loud but he was starting to freak out a few minutes ago.
"We're still about a mile away but at least we have a destination now," she nodded pulling him towards a dirt path that seemed to lead them to the school.
They walked calmly, it was such a serene environment, something extremely appealing to Neji as well as to Tenten, she was easy to please because she was new to a lot of things and she had nothing to compare it to but her life at the orphanage.
"Wow, dude look at that, its hella nice." She pointed excitedly at the river.
Neji's eyes averted towards the river she was talking about, it was beautiful.
She looked so blissful, "But we have to get back." She added a bit disappointed.
"Tomorrow's Saturday, we won't have class." He reminded, "We can stay for a few more minutes." he suggested.
Her eyes shone with excitement, "Really?" She breathed out.
He nodded.
She squealed and jumped ecstatically. It was the girliest thing he'd ever seen her do.
She ran to the river and felt the water run through her fingers, the current was gently hitting the rocks.
She was grinning bigger than she had ever grinned, "Wow, I've never been to the river." she laughed, "It's prettier than I imagined." she sighed, sitting down on a nearby rock.
He sat next to her, "I used to come here often." He confided.
"Used to?" she asked to which he answered with a slight nod, "What changed?"
"People changed." he responded, not particularly to her but reminding himself, "There's only a handful of people that you could count on."
She, however, could hear the inevitable venom dripping from his voice.
"Was she your first girlfriend? Mikan?"
His eyes held a sort of regret and remorse, "She was my first...everything."
Sasuke was not one to smile, heck all he knew was how to smirk, but just thinking about Sakura made him want to smile. They had been texting since the blonde idiot had given her his phone number last evening and she was the silliest texter ever. He hadn't texted her since last night because he thought it was too early to wake her up for a Saturday morning.
Now he was walking in through the doors of the shelter looking pretty happy, not at all cold as how he usually is.
"Hello, how can I help you?" A feminine voice asked him politely.
Sasuke averted his gaze towards the receptionist, she looked too young to be working here, she looked like someone his age, "I was told to report to the manager of this organization." He responded curtly, handing her the slip Tsunade had given him.
"Oh, I see." She said reading the slip, "Obito-san's office is the first office, right down the hallway Uchiha...san...?." She told him, ending the sentence bewildered, "Are you.." she began, looking like she wanted to say something else.
Sasuke stared at her, waiting for her to continue.
She realized and gasped, "Oh, sorry my bad, that was all." she smiled shyly.
Sasuke nodded muttering a thank you and walked toward the office. He knocked once.
"Come in." He heard.
Sasuke made his way inside, he saw a man who had similar features to his uncle Madara, he was working on something in his computer so he didn't bother looking up, "Good morning, Obito-san, I came to do service hours from Kono-"
"Yeah yeah from the high school right, Tsunade gave me a call, said you had to compete these hours as a punishment am I right?" He asked taking the slip from him, hardly looking up to see his face, "Sasuke..." Obito looked up slowly from the sheet of paper to see his nephew, "...Uchiha?"
Sasuke nodded, confused as to why he said his name so astonished similarly to the receptionist, "Aah." Probably the Uchiha surname scared him, Teh typical reaction. he thought.
Obito was surprised his brother's son was here but he didn't show it, "Obito Uchiha, pleased to meet you." He introduced himself because clearly Sasuke had no idea who he was. Heh, Fugaku really held their parent's disownment too.
"Uchiha?" Sasuke asked incredulously.
"You're Fugaku's youngest boy aren't you? Yeah you look more like your mom, thank God." He commented. He wasn't surprised Fugaku had not spoken of him to his kids.
"You know my father? " Sasuke asked in confusion.
Obito nodded, "How? I'm your uncle."
Ino sat with Chouji in the lounge, they were playing some sort of car race game.
She noticed he seemed a little tense, like if he was hiding something from her. She knew from previous experiences that he did that when he heard someone bad mouthing her and he was too gentleman to repeat the probable derogatory words.
"So, what's the locker talk about me this time eh?" she asked with a lightly mannered laugh, pausing the game.
Chouji closed his eyes and muttered a curse under his breath, "How do you do that so well?"
She looked bemused, "Do what?"
"Read me like an open book."
"I've known you for far too long Chouji, now tell me what's the big rumor about me this time?" she asked, ready to be amused with the latest crap they pulled this time.
Chouji avoided her gaze, he couldn't tell her what they were saying, this time those haters who called themselves her friends had gone too far.
"C'mon Chouji, you're scaring me babe," she pressed, still not catching the gist.
"Ino I can't-"
"What'd they say?" She asked in a tone that sounded more worried and serious, "Tell me."
"Ino you know that there's people that love you and care for you very much, I'm one of those people, and that's why I can't-"
"Just tell me, it's better to hear it from you than from some random person in the hall."
Chouji looked hesitant to tell her but he began cautiously, using the best words to sugar-coat it for Ino, "Supposedly some people saw you and Shikamaru-"
Ino's eyes widened for a fraction of a second, thinking she might have gotten caught, but quickly went back to normal when she realized it was just a speculation.
"-ahem 'doing it' on his first day here and that you both have been seeing each other ever since even though Temari and him have been an item for a few weeks now."
"I-I know I have a loose mouth and say things, but you know that Ki-"
"Look you don't have to explain anything to me Ino, obviously I don't believe what they're saying, but if Temari gets a hold of this rumor, Kami knows what will happen."
Ino eyes looked like those of a deer caught in the headlights, "What did Shikamaru say about all of this?"
Chouji looked even more distressed, and he kept quiet.
She gave him a look.
"When I confronted him, it didn't end too well."
Sasuke blinked.
Then he let out an exasperated half-chuckle.
"There must be a misunderstanding, I only have one uncle and that's-"
"Madara. Yeah I remember my brothers, he was the first one to give his back to me." He finished, "Listen Sasuke, I didn't know you were coming, must've been Tsunade's work, although it's surprising Fugaku allowed you to work here, knowing how special he is," he continued with an eyeroll, "The point is, you should find another foundation to complete your hours, I don't want any conflicts with your father. He can be a pain in the ass."
Sasuke appeared even more perplexed, how did this man know how his family was? Was he really his uncle?
He was starting to believe he was. The appearance, his knowledge of his father's conservative manner. But why had he been unaware of his existence until now?
"I don't understand." Sasuke expressed verbally, "Why would he exclude you from our family?"
"Long story short, our parents weren't exactly supportive with my career choice. I didn't want to be in the police force nor a business man, and like the obedient kiss-asses Madara and Fugaku were, they turned on me."
Sasuke was about to ask questions, but Obito cut him off.
"It's not my place to disclose previous family affairs, talk to Fugaku."
Sakura grabbed a bagel and an orange juice pouch from the table full of breakfast goodies. She saw Tenten with Neji talking animatedly. She didn't want to interrupt.
"Hey."
Sakura jumped a little, "Hey Gaara, you scared me." she told him smiling.
"Looking for a seat?" he asked.
"Yeah, my friends are occupied, I don't want to be third wheeling," she recalled, not wanting to repeat yesterday's awkward dinner with Hinata and Naruto.
"Wanna go somewhere less impacted?" he asked her.
"Oh thank God, lead the way." she answered. She didn't want to be surrounded by all these people right now.
Gaara smiled, he was taking her to the garden tables, many students preferred the indoor cafeteria tables because there was a T.V and other electronics. The outdoors was underrated.
"Oh, it's beautiful." She commented. She had already seen the garden, but it looked even more extravagant now that they had trimmed the bushes into luxurious figures, "I mean the aesthetics are everything." she continued.
"So the artistic type, huh," he deducted, "I would have never figured that out on my own."
Sakura gaped, as she sat down on the meticulously designed chair, "What's that suppose to mean?"
Gaara shrugged aloofly, not responding.
"Do I appear that shallow?" she asked feigning distress while clutching her bagel-holding hand to her heart.
He nodded, slightly smirking, an act she caught off handedly.
Sakura gasped indignantly, "How rude." She retorted, smacking him lightly on his shoulder.
"A little too heavy on the hand don't you think?" He joked. Like actually threw a joke out there.
"I mean if you're that sensitive, might not wanna touch the glass-boy." she retaliated with a laugh.
Gaara inched his chair closer to her, "What if I want to be touched?"
Sakura felt her voice caught in her throat when she felt his face close to hers, she emitted an awkward giggle. A friggin' giggle! Oh Kami just kill me now.
She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket, "Heh uh, my phone, it uh, rung." She used as a hint for him to back away, but he did not move.
She pulled out her phone, and she could feel Gaara's eyes peering over at the screen.
From: the love of my life
Morning beautiful. Have lunch with me?
Sakura felt her cheeks heat up, her heart was racing. Did he just text her that? She reread it over and over to make sure she hadn't misread. It was so un-Sasuke like. But it made her heart skip a beat.
"I see someone's already beat me." She heard Gaara say in a tone of disappointment.
She lifted her head up to find Gaara already pulled away and standing up ready to leave, she had forgotten all about him in just a matter of seconds, "I- no, I'm sorry I forgot to mention-"
"Clearly." He interjected.
She ignored his remark and continued, "Sasuke and I, we uh made up and we're friends now."
"Just friends?" He asked with a tint of hope in his voice.
Sakura found herself grudgingly nodding her head with disappointment as she realized they were just that: friends.
"And the name?" he continued. She was puzzled for a couple of seconds before understanding that he was referring to his contact name.
"Naruto added Sasuke's contact number as that." she found herself explaining.
He nodded, "So are you going to lunch with him?"
"Yeah, probably," she responded sincerely.
"Bummer," he commented, "But if you change your mind, just text me."
"Matsuri, this is my nephew, Sasuke." he introduced, "Sasuke this is Matsuri, a really efficient, bright young lady."
"Oh, Obito-san you're too kind." She responded in a humble manner, with her cheeks flushing evidently.
Obito waved her off, "You know you're good, stop being so modest." he turned to Sasuke who looked bewildered.
It was completely radical to see someone related to his father to be so carefree and especially giving compliments that easily. It was refreshing.
Sasuke studied the girl, he had overlooked her on his way in, not really paying much attention to her, but now that he was going to be shadowing her and spending time with her, he thought he should try to figure her out. She had short brown hair, meek looking posture. She seemed to have been beaten down by the cruelties of the world, yet she appealed to be kind-hearted. Her eyes held a certain hope in them, they resembled Hinata's persona, shy and timid, afraid to outshine others.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Sasuke-san." she drew her hand towards him to shake it.
He took it, "Likewise." he responded, "And I prefer Sasuke."
Obito smiled, Hm, these two could make a great team. Maybe even more.
"Now you two, go on and have some lunch."
"But sir, I was just about to file some-"
"Nonsense, you haven't laid off the work all morning, matter of fact, its an order," he decided, "Yeah, go eat together and get to know each other."
"I actually have somewhere to be." Sasuke contradicted.
"Perhaps you misunderstood me, Sasuke, this is one of your tasks." Obito cleared up.
Sasuke refrained himself from rolling his eyes, and bowed his head as a form of nodding. Matsuri opened her mouth to say something but closed it once more before uttering a sound.
Sasuke found himself sitting in front of a complete stranger. He had to cancel his plans with Sakura for this. They had already ordered food at this really expensive restaurant that Sasuke had chosen randomly and really didn't think much of it until Matsuri gaped asking, "How loaded are you?" he didn't respond, only looked at her indifferently.
"I'm sorry Sasuke, this isn't exactly the place I want to be at either." She huffed childishly, "Obito-san has been trying to get me a boyfriend for the longest time and I guess you're his latest victim." She laughed, trying to break the tension.
He raised his eyebrow, questioningly.
"He thinks I don't have a life besides school and work." She rolled her eyes, "Which shouldn't be any of his business but there he is, saying a 17 year old shouldn't refuge herself in work and school, but it's my way getting over a heartbreaker," she finished off, "And you, what's the reason you're there?"
"Community service," he responded.
She nodded not really thinking much of it, "So are you really related to the boss?"
He shrugged, "Apparently."
Sasuke had gone back to school after completing 3 hours. He had found Matsuri interesting enough to make an acquaintance of. But the only girl who was on his mind was Sakura, and the only bad thing he had the afternoon was his cancelation of their lunch.
He was making his way to her dorm, without prior anticipation.
Before he knocked he heard girlish giggles come from the other side. He knocked.
The door swooshed open revealing a previously laughing Sakura with a loose robe and hair wrapped up in a towel, "Hinata we were wai- Sasuke! What are you doing here?" She exclaimed folding her arms around herself, trying to cover as much as she could. It wasn't like she was showing much skin, but it was such a thin layer of silk that outlined and bolded her slender curves.
Sasuke used all his self-control not to gape at the extremely appealing sight before him, "I came to apologize for lunch." He explained gruffly, looking away from her.
Her panicked expression faltered and her eyes softened, "It's fine, I went out with other friends." She reassured, "Are you going to the party?"
"I wasn't planning on it." He said, clearing his throat.
"Sora invited Ino and I, you should come." she suggested.
His attention was grasped as soon as she mentioned his name, "Sora?" he asked stiffly.
She nodded, "Yeah, he said it was gonna be fun." she offered, "But I'd enjoy it more if you were there."
His lips pulled up slightly, "Hn, maybe I'll go." He considered.
"Sasuke let the girl put some clothes on for God's sake!" He heard Ino yell from inside the dorm.
Sakura blushed, "I'll see you tonight." She promised.
"Aah," he responded with a tint of red on his cheeks as well, turning on his heel to leave.
Before Sasuke could step further from where she was, the rosette pulled his arm, making him pivot back to her, colliding with her chest to chest.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, and pulling his head down to place a gentle kiss on his lips, without allowing it to turn into anything more than a peck.
She gave him one last look before going back inside her dorm.
He had to go and take a cold shower fast.
When Sakura entered the room, Ino squealed, "Forehead! You're such a tease, poor Sasuke was all dumbfounded." she complimented, "At least you tried something more daring, I've never seen Sasuke so whipped."
Sakura could only feel her heart pounding in her chest.
Tenten grinned, "He's not the only one whipped." she teased.
Sakura shook herself out of her trance, "I- Where's Hinata?!" She changed the subject hastily.
The lavender eyed teen was standing in front of the lobby's vending machine, she had volunteered to go buy snacks, since she was ready for the party.
She punched in the money and bend down to retrieve the treats.
"Hinata," she heard a familiar raspy voice, "You look amazing."
Hinata's eyes widened in shock.
She quickly stood up dropping the treats from her arms in the process. Her eyes landed on a certain brunette who held the same wolfish grin directed to her, with open arms.
"I'm back."

Sakura was feeling overwhelmed, why did she feel like this, when she had never cared before? She felt the tears sting her eyes like rose thorns, but her spirit was far stronger than that, she wouldn't cry. No not now. But as she remembered that voice, that male voice that rejected her and neglected her she couldn't stop the rebellious tears that stained her rosy cheeks.
She sniffled, trying to constrain her runny nose from flowing further.
She felt someone sit down next to her.
She hastily wiped her tears. How embarrassing, she came to have a good time and she ended up crying.
"I saw you leave th- Sakura are you crying?"
"So I know you heard about the rumor and I heard what you told Chouji," she glared; she was red in the face of all the anger she had, "What the hell is your problem like I do everything to try and stay out of your way and I approve of your relationship with-"
"So now she needs your approval to date someone? Teh, troublesome."
"No that's not what I meant," she sighed, "And that's not the point!"
"Then tell me Ino, what's the point of this conversation?"
