Chapter 12

Jack and Robin were taken below deck to the brig and locked up in a small cell. They both looked dubiously at the water around their ankles. "Apparently, there's a leak," Jack noted. The bo' sun just walked away.

Robin sat down in one corner of the cell while Jack peered through a peephole in the wood. "You know," she remarked after a minute, "this situation seems strangely familiar."

"Aye," Jack replied. "Except this time, it ain't the noose what's waitin' for us."

Robin took her look through the hole and saw the Interceptor come board and board with the Black Pearl. Jack came up behind her, waiting for his turn. Suddenly, Robin whirled around, grabbed Jack, and through him to the floor of the brig.

"Stop blowing holes in my ship!" he yelled angrily.

"You all right, mate?" Robin asked.

"I'm fine. Thanks."

She shrugged. "I owed you one." Suddenly, Robin noticed something different about the cell door. "Jack, look!" she cried, scrambling to her feet. Cautiously, she opened the door and crept out, Jack following her.

They emerged onto the deck amidst an enormous fight. No one noticed that the two prisoners were escaping.

Jack grabbed a rope from a pirate. "Thanks very much." He and Robin both swung over to the Interceptor.

"Jack!" Gibbs cried when Jack and Robin both landed in front of him.

Jack handed Gibbs his flask. "Bloody empty," Jack explained. He then rushed over to where a pirate was about to swing his sword at Elizabeth's neck. "That's not very nice." Elizabeth hit said pirate in the head and threw him overboard. Jack grabbed Elizabeth and pulled her into a sheltered area by the rail.

"Where's the medallion?" he demanded.

"Wretch!" Elizabeth cried, attempting to slap him. Jack caught her hand and looked at the bandage on her palm.

"Ah. Where is dear William?"

"Will," she breathed. She ran over to where a large beam had fallen onto the grating. "Will!"

"Elizabeth!" he cried. Robin ran over to Elizabeth and they both began pushing on the beam as hard as they could. Despite their best efforts, the beam wouldn't budge.

"We can't move it!" Robin cried desperately. Suddenly, two large pirates latched onto Elizabeth.

"Will!" she cried. Robin leapt toward them and began attempting fight them off, but a third pirate came behind her and hit her hard on the back of the head.

When Robin awoke, she was bound hand and foot and had been gagged. Two pirates were holding her and began walking toward the railing.

"What's going on, Barbossa?" she heard Jack growl.

Robin turned her head and saw Barbossa's derisive sneer. "A little incentive to make sure ye don't put up a fight." Barbossa then threw Jack's pistol over the side. After that, he snapped his fingers.

Robin let out a series of muffled screams as she realized what was going on: they were going to throw her overboard while she was bound. She somehow managed to scream past the gag as she was thrown out into the water. As the water converged over her head and she began sinking, she saw Jack dive in after her and began swimming down toward her. This was no easy task as his hands were bound as well.

The last thing she saw before losing consciousness was Jack reaching out to her, a horrified look on his face.

"Robin? Robin! Come on, darling, don't you dare die on me! Wake up!" Jack yelled, trying desperately to get all the water out of the woman's lungs.

Suddenly, Robin came to, coughing loudly. Jack quickly helped her to sit up, making sure she was all right.

"What happened?" she croaked, her voice hoarse from the salt water.

Jack sighed. "We've been marooned, along with Elizabeth."
