(The Next Day)
Due to Fiyero being the one that caused the accident, he was now tasked with watching over Toddler Shaun with Nia while the others talked in the lounge room.
"So what do we do this time, make another potion? A spell?" Elphaba said as Adam had finished analysing the potion that had caused this whole mess.
"Yeah, cause not that it's not like extremely adorable and all, but we might need him back to his normal age to fight against Evanna" Rae said as several others nodded.
"….But he is really cute though" Rose said with a smile, she had returned home the night before and had learnt of what had happened.
The funniest moment was when she came face to face with her now toddler sized love; he had grown wide eyed before walking over to her and asking her if she had a boyfriend, which in turn caused almost everyone to pass out from laughing.
Apparently his memories were being supressed by the potion, and due to his younger body, he didn't know who any of the others were, only who Adam was and who Rae was, however he somehow assumed she was his older sister, all the others seemed like strangers to him.
"No, we won't have to do anything" Adam said calmly as he put the vial back down onto the coffee table.
"Why not?" Nagisa asked, she remembered when Rae had been toddler-fied and it had taken them a few days to sort that out.
"Because this potion may be similar to the one used on Rae, but it is a different variant, this potion isn't made to last, its effects should wear off within a day, two at the most" he said as he sat down into a lounge chair.
"So we just wait for it to wear off on its own" Hope said with a small shrug.
"I'm going to go check on Fiyero, make sure everything's going ok" Elphaba said as she got up and left the room.
(Upstairs)
Adam and Glinda had converted one of the upstairs rooms into a temporary play room for Shaun, filled with all kinds of toys and games to occupy a young child of his age.
He was currently completely hidden under a mountain of stuffed animals, peeking out slightly to see Fiyero looking around with a puzzled expression.
"ROAWR!" he cried as he jumped out.
"Aaargh" Fiyero exclaimed as he fell back in surprise, Nia however started laughing at the sight.
"You knew he was there!"
Nia rolled her eyes slightly.
"Yes, it wasn't really a secret, it took him a few minutes to bury himself under them all, what were you doing again?" she asked with a smirk.
"I was….I was playing with the train set" Fiyero said pointing to a train set in the corner.
"Hahahahaha that was funny" Shaun proclaimed as he rolled around surrounded by Plushies.
Nia surveyed the large amount of plush toys and let out a small whistle.
"That is a lot of Plushies you've got there" she said as she came over and sat next to the younger boy, it felt kind of weird since she was used to him being older, he was usually so busy with either trying to find Evanna and Cassandra, or spending time with Rose, it was fun to be able to spend some time with him, kind of like when they first went to Oz, before the whole brainwashing incident.
"Are you and Rae friends?" he asked as he started to organise the Plushies in different groups and sections.
"Yep, we've been friends for a while now" Nia said as she watched him.
"You can be my friend too" he suddenly decided as he placed a crocodile plush toy next to one of a tiger.
"Oh, well I am glad you are letting me be your friend" Nia said with a serious sounding tone, but she was not able to stop the smile that came to her face.
"Are you going to be staying here for a long time?" he asked.
"Well were not sure yet, but we'll be here for a while" she said as she picked up a small stuffed duck.
"Yay! That means we can play, I have lots'a toys and games, and you can use them too, the others can as well, but they gotta ask me 'fore using any" he said with an attempt at a serious face.
'Why is toddler him so cute!' she thought.
"So do any of your Plushies have names?" she asked, knowing that a lot of the times kids named their toys when it came to Plushies.
"They all got names" he said in a 'duh' tone.
"Haha, that's silly, why would you name them" Fiyero said from over by the train set, Shaun frowned at him.
"It's not silly, it's being nice, if I didn't name them they might get sad" he said seriously.
"Yeah Fiyero, don't you know anything" Nia said with the same 'duh' tone Shaun had used before.
"And all their names are good names, not stupid names like 'Fiyero" Shaun said pointedly.
"Hey, there's nothing wrong with my name" Fiyero said defensively, only to find that Shaun was no longer interested and was explaining his Toys names to Nia.
"This is Max, he's a dog" he said showing her a small black dog.
"He doesn't like dog food; he likes to eat chocolate pudding"
Nia quirked a brow. "I thought dogs couldn't eat chocolate stuff"
"He can" was Shaun's simple reply as he picked up a small crocodile toy.
"This is Crocky, he's a crocodile" he said as he handed him to Nia to inspect.
"Aww, he's cute" she said as she felt the soft fabric of its back.
"And he likes chasing pirates!" Shaun exclaimed with a smile.
"Why would a crocodile chase pirates?" Fiyero said as he added another track to the train set from in the corner, Shaun turned to him with a frown.
"He only chases bad pirates, like Captain Hook" he said petting Crocky slightly.
"You don't like Captain Hook?" Nia asked, Shaun shook his head quickly.
"Nope, cause he's a big bully, and he locked Tink in a box!" he said angrily, before picking up a polar bear toy.
"This is Suzy, she's a polar bear" he said handing the toy to Nia before whispering.
"One of the mean toys called her fat and it made her sad, so you gotta cheer her up" he whispered before turning to look over at a shark Plush toy surrounded in a cage made from pencils and tape with a little paper sign saying 'Time Out', obviously the toy that had called her fat.
"I'll be sure to be extra nice" Nia said as she playfully stroked the polar bears back.
"I don't know why your bothering naming them, it's not like they're going to come to life one day and start playing around for real" Fiyero said from his corner, Shaun turned to glare at him.
"Fiyero come on, your being a little harsh" Nia said before turning back to Shaun.
"Don't mind him, he's just being brainless" she said with a smile, before something caught her eye.
Shaun was sitting there and nodding towards a Plush Horse, he seemed to be responding to a question.
"What's the horse saying?" she asked playfully.
"Can't you hear her?" he asked in confusion.
Now it was Nia's turn to be confused as she looked at the horse.
"Um, No….Maybe you could translate" she said, thinking he was just playing a game.
"No no, here look" he said as he took Nia's arm and pulled her over towards the horse.
"You just not concentrating enough, maybe that's why you can't see 'em" he said seriously.
Nia was about to answer when she saw a small pink glow coming from Shaun's hand and instantly the room shone before she looked down in shock to see the toy's all were moving and talking, chatting amongst themselves.
"Hi" Suzy the Polar bear said kindly as Nia waved back slowly in shock.
"Now you can see 'em like me" Shaun said with a grin.
Nia was confused, was this just a product of his Magic? Maybe he had somehow brought them to life but only he could see them.
"Wow, this is really cool" she said as she stroked Max the dog only for him to lick her with his tongue.
"What are you talking about Nia?" Fiyero asked from the train set, he had turned around to see Nia talking to a small Dog toy.
"He can't see them?" Nia asked Shaun, who shook his head for a few seconds before scrunching his eyes up, and a look of concentration came over him before Nia saw all of the toys glow a white colour, before returning to normal.
"Now everyone can see them" he said simply.
Fiyero was now looking on dumbstruck at the sight of all the toys moving around and talking, before he got up and went over towards one of them, picking it up hastily he began to poke and prod it.
"Hey, don't do that! You might hurt her!" Shaun said standing up and frowning at Fiyero who was holding Suzy the Polar bear in his hands and poking her, she was letting out shocked protests.
"Whoa this is weird, you brought the fat little polar bear to life" he said.
Instantly the room was filled with dozens of gasps as all the toys stopped what they were doing and stared at Fiyero in shock, Fiyero looked down to see them all looking at him with wide eyes, Shaun was as well, Nia was looking around with a raised eyebrow.
"….What?" Fiyero asked not really getting what was happening.
However a small sob reached his ears as he looked down and saw the polar bear toy sobbing for a few seconds before breaking out into tears, crying out as it wiggled around frantically to escape Fiyero's grip.
In shock Fiyero dropped the toy, and after landing on the ground it ran off away from the other toys and under the bed that had been installed into the room, disappearing under it, however the sobs and cries could still be heard.
Fiyero looked back to notice that all the toys were now glaring at him murderously, even the shark in the 'time out' area was giving him a dirty look.
"LET'S GET HIM" screamed a cat toy as suddenly they all charged at Fiyero.
Fiyero was suddenly assaulted as a stuffed rabbit jumped up and latched onto his face.
"Mffffhmhmmm" his muffled screams came out as he tried to pull it off his face, only for a snake toy to wrap itself around his left leg and trip him.
He now had toys attacking him everywhere, the rabbit toy was repeatedly jumping up and down on his head as the others attacked his arms and legs, a horse toy was kicking him in the groin as a larger teddy bear was punching him in the stomach.
"NIA- HELP-ME!" he cried out in between his face being trampled by the rabbit.
Nia watched on with widened eyes, the toys suddenly stopped and turned to her questionably, she instantly jumped back behind Shaun.
"Don't look at me I'm with you guys!" she exclaimed clutching Shaun to her chest.
This continued before a voice was heard from the outside of the door.
"You guys, I just came to check up on you" came Elphaba's voice from behind the door, instantly the toys all looked at each other before looking back at Shaun before they dropped to the ground motionless.
Elphaba came in to see Shaun sitting in Nia's lap and Fiyero on the ground surrounded by toys.
"Oh that's cute Fiyero, It's nice that you're playing" she said as Fiyero suddenly sat up quickly, his eyes wide and twitching.
"The toys are alive Fae!" he cried grabbing onto her shoulders, Elphaba raised an eyebrow as she looked at Shaun and Nia who looked innocent to the entire thing, and then looked down on the floor to see the toys lifeless.
"Fiyero don't be silly, you might have just dozed off our something" she said laughing slightly, however Fiyero reached down and picked up the teddy bear that had been previously punching him in the stomach.
"Stop pretending, I know you're alive!" he exclaimed as he shook the bear frantically.
"Fiyero calm down-" Elphaba began but stopped as Fiyero slapped the bear.
"How do you like that hah? Now talk you furry bastard I know you can!" he shouted as he shook the bear.
"Fiyero that is enough!" Elphaba exclaimed as she grabbed the bear from his hands and placed it on the bed, she grabbed hold of his wrist tightly and pulled him out of the room.
"Ow, Elphaba that really hurts"
"I can't believe you, acting that way and using that kind of language in front of children!"
Nia looked at Shaun who looked at the closed doorway before looking back at the other toys, they began to move again.
"Ok, the cost is clear" said Max the dog.
"They just pulled a Toy Story" Nia said with realisation.
( A Few Hours Later )
The whole gang where going into town, they needed to go shopping and to pick up a few things, and they turned it into a group activity.
Shaun however was staying home and Glinda had elected to stay with him, due to Fiyero now not being deemed fit to look after him.
"I'm telling you they were real!" he said to Julie who merely nodded.
"Sure they were buddy, sure they were" she said in a placating tone before turning to Jane and rolling her eyes slightly.
Shaun was standing at the door watching everyone go, Jane however leaned over to Hope and whispered in her ear as they were approaching the door, and Hope nodded before giggling slightly.
"We hope you have a great time with Glinda while were gone" Hope said with a smile, Shaun nodded and smiled back.
"Yeah we certainly don't want anything bad happening like last time" Jane said with an exaggerated tone.
"Last time?" Shaun questioned as the two looked at each other and smiled slightly.
"Oh well it's just that back in Oz, Glinda would sometimes get a little crazy, nothing too bad or anything" Jane said with a wave of her hand.
"Except there was one time when she…..oh I probably should tell you, don't want you getting scared" Hope said.
"W-What?" Shaun asked timidly.
"Oh, well there was this one time we came back and Glinda had eaten this kid"
Shaun's eyes widened and his jaw dropped.
"Y-You're joking…..Right"
Hope looked at Jane with a barely contained smile.
"Oh no I'm serious, she cooked him up in a big pot and ate him" Jane said seriously.
The girls then saw Fiyero who had come back in to get his coat, Hope ran up to him and whispered in his ear, he instantly had a smile on his face.
'Payback, here I come' he thought as he walked towards the door, stopping just before to look at Shaun.
"She ate the kid piece by piece, until there was nothing left, it was such a shame" he said before walking out.
"Well we hope you have a good time, and let's hope nothing bad happens again, oh man that would be terrible" Jane said as she walked out.
Hope followed behind giving him a pat on the back before closing the door.
Shaun sat in silence for several seconds before hearing Glinda's voice from the next room as she talked to herself.
"Boy I sure am hungry, but I better go and heat up the water first before anything else"
Shaun's face paled as he turned around and ran towards the door, looking up he saw that the latch was far higher than he could reach but he tried to jump up anyway.
"She gonna eat me!"
He heard footsteps from behind him and turned to see Glinda standing at the entrance to the foyer with a look of confusion.
"What are you up to?" she asked with a smile.
Shaun's eyes widened before he let out a scream and ran into the lounge room, Glinda looked confused as she entered the lounge room only to have a cushion lightly contact with her stomach it wasn't very big and didn't hurt in the slightest, she looked over to see Shaun on the couch with another cushion in hand.
"What the ? Why did you-" she began only to be interrupted as another cushion was thrown at her stomach.
"Why are you throwing cushions at me?" she asked with a smile, it was kind of funny but also confusing.
"You're not going to eat me you evil witch!" he cried as he held another cushion in front of him like a shield.
"Huh?" Glinda remarked with raised eyebrows.
"Eat you? Why in Oz's name do you think I would eat you sweetie" she asked with honest confusion.
"Cause Hope and Jane said you ate someone before, and Fiyero said you cooked them in a pot" he said as he hid behind the cushion.
"Oh did they now" she said with a glint in her eye as she walked over to him and removed the cushion from his hands.
"Well you don't have to worry about that, they were just kidding" she said as she sat down next to him.
"Really?" he asked with a questioning expression.
"Yes really, do you think someone as small as me could eat an entire person?" she asked jokingly.
"Oh….but what about when you said about heating up water?" he asked, Glinda waved her hand.
"Oh that, I was just going to give you a bath" she replied.
Shaun seemed to relax, until he registered what she had just said.
"A bath!" he exclaimed before jumping down from the lounge and running off out of the room.
"Cook me instead!" he shouted as he ran away.
Glinda smiled a she rolled her eyes and waved her hand as a pink ball of magic flew from her hands and after a few moments the small boy was back in front of her suspended in the fluffy ball mid-air.
"No way, I don't want to!" he cried struggling as Glinda merely laughed and walked upstairs, Shaun's suspended form following her along.
"Oh stop struggling, it's not that bad, besides you need a bath" she said as he stopped struggling in the magic but a small frown was on his face.
"How do you know?" he asked evenly.
"I guess you could say it's my mother's intuition" she said as she entered the bathroom.
'Though I don't have any kids, so I'm not really a mother' she thought to herself sadly, her eyes lowering slightly before she turned to see Shaun now struggling again as he saw the bath, she couldn't help but smile.
"Mother's intuition?" he asked in confusion as she waved her hand and the magic ball slowly lowered him to the ground.
Glinda nodded as she was filling the tub with water, Suddenly Shaun could hear music begin to play out of nowhere.
"…..is that music?" he asked.
Glinda didn't seem to hear him as she looked over the bathroom and sighed, there were several bathrooms in the house but this was the bathroom most used by many of the others, there was clothes on the floor, including Shaun's that he had just taken off and thrown onto the pile.
"It's a mother's intuition to make a little space
It's her quiet mission to tidy up her place"
Glinda sang as she waved her hand and all the clothes were magically flung into the clothes basket in the corner, Shaun looked over with wide eyes.
"A mother's intuition is like a kangaroo's
She hops around she mops the ground
She fusses over you, a mother, with her intuition
Will know just what to do"
Shaun had tried to run once again when he saw the bath completely filled, only for Glinda to jump around in front of him and wave her index finger in a 'no no' gesture as she smiled and picked him up before taking him over to the bath.
He placed his legs on the edge to try and stop her, but she picked him up higher and lowered him in, the water splashing slightly as the bubbles began to foam up.
"It's a mother's intuition to wash her baby
While she won't forget behind the ears
And the extra soaps another tale
A mother's into cleaning she'll clean until she's though
She's smart enough she's wise enough to add up two and two
A mother with her intuition will know just what to do"
Glinda had taken a washcloth while she sang and began to wash over Shaun's face with it, he sputtered slightly before Glinda reached for a loofah and scrubbed down his back making him vibrate slightly.
Shaun tried to jump out of the bath; however Glinda wrapped her arm around him and reeled him back in before reaching for the loofah and working it along his left arm followed by his right.
She placed the loofah back on the side of the bath, Shaun was staring up at all the bubbles that had been created, Glinda smiled at the sight before reaching down and plucking him out of the bath, she wrapped a small towel around him and placed him onto a bath mat.
"A mother has a feeling, she pays special attention
If someone is concealing, if someone's playing tricks
She rubs and scrubs and scours the secrets
Until the answer clicks"
Glinda quickly toweled dried him off and with a wave of her hand he was wearing a pair of purple pajama's with Kangaroo's on them, she then took the towel once more and covered his hair with it and rubbed it dry, his hair fluffing out afterword's.
"She'll make you shine and sparkle new
Until she finds the real you, underneath"
Smiling down at Shaun who now was smiling back, she threw wrapped the towel up into a ball and threw it across the room into the clothes basket in one shot, she turned to Shaun who smiled and signaled he wanted to be lifted up, she did so and carried him out of the bathroom.
"It's a mother's intuition
It's a mother's intuition
It's a mother's intuition"
Glinda sung the last bit quietly as she walked downstairs; she needed to get dinner ready.
(That Night)
Glinda was about to get ready for bed, she was wearing he pink nightgown and had just finished brushing her hair, Elphaba would always ask what was the point of brushing your hair before bed since it would only get messed up while sleeping.
Well if 'little miss broomstick' didn't want to appreciate the finer points of hair care, then so be it, but that didn't mean she wouldn't.
She was just about to get into her large and amazingly comfortable pink bed when she heard a small knock at her door.
"I wonder who that could be at this hour?" she asked herself as she walked over to the door and opened it, she looked around to see no one standing there.
But a moment later she felt something poke her on the leg and she looked down to see Shaun standing there.
"Oh, sweetie should you be in bed?" she asked leaning down closer to his height.
"I couldn't sleep" he said as he shifted nervously before looking at Glinda.
"Can I sleep in here with you?"
Glinda couldn't help but smile at the request and reached down to pick him up.
"Of course you can, come on in" she said as she lifted him into her arms and closed the door, walking over to the bed she reached down with one arm and pulled the large comforter down before placing Shaun down on the bed, he immediately moved over to allow Glinda entrance.
After getting into bed she reached over and dimmed the lamp on her bedside table, Glinda pulled the blanket up over the two of them as Shaun snuggled closer to her, his younger body curling up against her as he let out a small yawn, his eyes began to droop and close slowly as rested against Glinda.
"Goodnight..." he said tiredly.
"...Mama"
Glinda's eyes widened with shock as she glanced down at him, his eyes completely shut as he was already asleep.
She felt her eyes grow damp with moisture before she blinked it away and tried to contain her emotions, she sniffled slightly before smiling and leaning down she planted a kiss onto his forehead.
"Goodnight, My Little Kangaroo"
She then snuggled closer to him as she felt herself drift off to sleep with a smile on her face.
(The Next Morning)
Glinda awoke to feel herself cosily wrapped up in her nice warm comforter, except after several seconds she noticed a lack of something.
Or someone.
Her eyes darted open as she turned to look around, however Shaun wasn't there, instantly getting to her feet and looking around the room she saw no sight of him.
She opened the door and was about to continue searching however a voice interrupted her.
"Morning"
Turning she saw Adam standing there in a dark grey robe, a mug of coffee in one hand.
"Shaun he's-"
"Back to normal" Adam said calmly before taking a sip.
"You mean he's back to his normal age" she asked with a twinge of sadness in her tone.
"I came in to check on him this morning but he wasn't in his room, I thought to look here and I found him curled up next to you at his normal age" Adam said with a small smile.
"I thought it best to move him back to his own room, just to avoid any embarrassment" Adam said with a nod of his head.
"Oh, yeah of course" Glinda said nodding. "I'd better get dressed than, time to start the day" she said before going back in to change out of her night gown, however she couldn't shake the feeling of sadness that seemed to rest in the pit of her stomach.
(A few Hours Later)
Glinda sat out in the back yard under a large tree; she was reading a magazine and wasn't paying attention to her surrounding when a voice caught her attention.
"Looks like it might rain"
Looking up behind she saw Shaun standing there, he was once again wearing a pair of suit pants and black shoes, along with a maroon long sleeved button up shirt, but was lacking the jacket, vest or tie.
"I didn't notice" she said lightly gesturing the magazine before looking up to see the sky was grey and it looked like it might rain again soon.
Shaun chuckled slightly before smiling.
"I thought your intuition would kick in"
Glinda's head snapped back to him with her mouth slightly agape, Shaun was smiling slightly at her expression.
Glinda looked at Shaun as he leaned his back against the tree, she shifted slightly nervously.
"So you...remember all that?" she asked nervously.
Shaun smiled slightly as his cheeks turned pink.
"Umm, yeah I do" he said awkwardly.
A few moments passed where they didn't say anything, the wind blowing slightly before Shaun spoke.
"Just because the Boy didn't remember being me, doesn't mean I don't remember being the boy" he said lightly, smiling at her.
"Listen about all that" Glinda began only for Shaun to interrupt.
"That's actually why I came out here. I don't really have a good history with my adopted mother, and my birth mother has been gone for almost my entire life. I just wanted to say thanks, you know for being there for me when I was like that" he said as he shifted slightly on his feet before continuing.
"And even back in Oz you were there for me, and you looked after Rae when I was gone, you just seem to always be there when I need you" he said as Glinda was now looking at him directly.
"There was something I wanted to ask you, if you don't want me to then I will completely understand and respect that, but I just wanted to ask anyway"
"Sure go ahead?" Glinda replied as she stood up and brushed off her dress before turning to him.
Shaun brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck as he stumbled over his words, he usually wasn't this nervous.
"Well it's just- I mean I...I just wanted to know...I-If it wasn't..." he stumbled before taking a deep exhale and looking Glinda in the eyes.
"W-Would it be Ok,...If I called you Mum?"
Glinda stared at him for a few seconds before responding.
"W-what?"
"I just wanted to ask you, if I could call you Mum" he said clearly.
Shaun suddenly felt a weight slam into his chest and two hands wrapped around him tightly as he was pulled into Glinda's embrace, he didn't know how but she suddenly seemed really strong as he was finding it hard to breath.
"A-Are you ok?" Shaun managed to choke out from the bone crushing hug he was receiving, Glinda leaned her head back and Shaun could see some tears welling in her eyes.
"I'm fine, I'm just r-really really happy right now!" she said her voice rising slightly as she resumed hugging him tightly.
"My Little Kangaroo..."
(That Evening)
Shaun was coming out of his room as he had just finished getting changed and had brushed his hair back so that the waves were behind his ears, Rose had asked him to leave it un-straightened for the day as she wanted to see him as he was normally, when asked why she said that she missed seeing his as he was when he had turned into a toddler, even if it was only for a short time.
He had just exited the room when he saw Nia standing with her arms folded.
"So you're all grown up again now huh" she said with a smile.
"It appears so" he said smiling back at the slightly younger girl.
"I'm kind of missing the young you though, I wish I could see him again" she said sadly.
Shaun gave her a small shrug.
"The potion isn't extremely hard to make, who knows you might see him again" he said with a smile.
"And maybe I could meet Young Nia one day?" he questioned, to which she smiled.
"Oh now that would be an adventure, only if we get to play toy wars"
"Toy wars?" he questioned.
"Yeah, we divide up your toys and execute battles as there generals" she said to which he smiled.
"Hey do you still have them all" she asked.
"Oh yeah, however I asked them to remain in their pretend states when people are around, except for you and I" he said.
Nia suddenly burst out laughing.
"Oh man Fiyero is going crazy, no one believes him"
Shaun let out a laugh as well, he still was a bit annoyed though that he had told him that Glinda had cooked someone.
His attention however was grabbed by the appearance of a camera in Nia's hands.
Nia gave a huge grin as she held up a camera.
"Uuum, what is that?" Shaun asked.
"It's all the 'oh so memorable' moments of your temporary toddler-hood, that Adam converted to film for us" she said smirking.
Shaun nearly fell over in shock.
"It even has some of my memories and moments from all of our memory on it" she said smiling
"N-Now come on Nia, there really isn't a need to-"
"COME ON GUYS ITS TIME FOR MOVIE NIGHT!" she screamed before running out of the room quickly.
"Nia!"
Her head popped back around the corner.
"Oh and apparently there's some good bits from your time with Glinda on here" she said before running off.
"NIA!"
So there you go, the two intermission chapters that I really enjoyed writing.
As I said I might write the movie night as an extra to the next chapter, it is really late/early here, like 4:12 AM and I am really tired.
As always please review, I love hearing your feedback and would especially like to hear what you thought of this chapter as it has some good development between some of the characters.
