Rin's POV

"You do realize how foolish that is, right?" I tensed my shoulders at Takuya's words. Caster sent a potent glare over to him. He ignored her and continued on. "Your only objective should be to defeat Berserker. You shouldn't look at it as some form of revenge."

I let go of Caster's shoulder and whirled around to face the man. His face was passive as usual. I stormed over to him, a scowl draped over my face. It was probably hard to take me seriously after I had been crying. "What gives you the right to talk to Caster that way? She's just trying to be a good friend."

"Since when are Servants our friends? They are our sword and shield Tohsaka; you should know that better than anyone considering you left your Servant to cover you while you fled."

I was speechless. How dare he accuse me of abandoning Lancer?! I opened my mouth to retort when a movement from behind caught my eye. Caster's hand reached out and connected with Takuya's face. The sound reverberated through the room. Takuya looked stunned as he processed what just happened. He reached up and tentatively touched the spot where Caster had hit him.

"You are the worst kind of person."

I had never heard Caster's voice take such a hateful tone. Her eyes were blazing with anger as she turned away and left the room. Shirou watched her go with worry in his eyes. It wasn't long before he followed after her. I also noticed that Archer had disappeared. If my hunch about the two once knowing each other was correct then he had probably chased after Caster as well.

I glanced over to where Takuya had seated himself. He still wore his shocked expression. I approached him and sat next to him. He didn't spare me a glance. A tense moment passed between us.

"You deserved it you know."

"Did I? I didn't say anything that wasn't true."

I shook my head. "You don't understand. Not only were you insulting me but you were also insulting Lancer. Caster was very close to my Servant and she took it just as hard as I did." I sighed at his confused expression. "You treat Servants as things not people. That's not morally right."

"Servants were created by the Holy Grail to serve as their Masters' weapon. I don't understand what I said that upset her."

I sighed again. He just didn't get it. Maybe it was due to his personality or the relationship between his Servant and himself that was making it hard for him to grasp the effect of his words. Maybe he just didn't fully understand how people react in certain situations. I was aware that the Honda house was always reclusive but this was ridiculous.

"I guess you just don't understand people very well."

We didn't speak again. I nervously glanced at the door waiting for Shirou and Archer to return. A few minutes passed and sure enough Shirou returned. He glanced at the two of us. This situation was getting awkward fast. I cleared my throat and stood up.

"I think I'm going to bed."

Shirou glanced to me. "Oh, I'll walk you to your room."

"You don't have to do that."

He waved me off. I knew better than to argue with him and allowed him to accompany me to my room. We walked in comfortable silence. I heard two voices ahead of us. That was Caster and Archer speaking. What in the world were they talking about? Caster's voice was cut off in midsentence. I felt slight panic as we rounded the corner. My eyes widened as Caster pushed Archer away from her. He stumbled back from the force. Caster stood there shaking whether from shock or anger I couldn't tell. Archer looked at her in concern.

"Hakuno, are you-?"

Before I could even celebrate that I was right about the two once knowing each other, and by True Names no less, Caster was shouting at Archer.

"I told you to stop!" She shouted, tears in her eyes. "I told you I can't!"

She spun on her heel and ran as fast as she could away from Archer. A small sob escaped her lips as she went. I noticed Shirou clench his fists in anger. I could feel a confrontation coming on and quickly tried to come up with an excuse to slip away.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Shirou's voice was dripping with anger.

Archer gave us an unreadable look. He shrugged his shoulders at Shirou's question. "What's it to you?"

This seemed like the best time to slip away.

"I'll uh…go check on Caster. She didn't look very happy."

Neither man spared me a glance. I groaned at the two once they were out of ear shot. Men and their pride. I shook my head at their foolishness. Didn't they know infighting would do us no good?

I pushed those thoughts aside as I came to Caster's room. Her door was slightly ajar and allowed me a peek inside. I couldn't be sure but I thought I heard Caster crying on the other side of the room. Hesitantly, I knocked on the door and slid it open a bit more.

"Caster, it's Rin. May I come in?"

A few moments passed before I heard Caster sniffle and reply. "Y-yes, you may."

I slid the door the rest of the way open and was slightly shocked to see what a wreck Caster was. Her eyes were bloodshot and her face was tear stained. She had her knees pulled to her chest and had her arms wrapped around them. Caster's head was placed atop her arms and she looked at me with some tears lingering in her eyes.

I know I'm a girl and all but she looks kind of cute when she's sad.

"Are you alright? I saw you run away from Archer just now. Did he say something to you?"

She shook her head and buried her face into her arms. Her voice came out muffled, "No, not exactly."

That was odd. "Then what happened to upset you?"

"I don't want to talk about it."

"Come on Caster! How am I supposed to be a good friend if you won't talk to me?" I got no reply. Groaning, I walked over and seated myself beside the other girl. Her shoulders tensed slightly but soon relaxed. I put my arm around her shoulders and gave her a comforting squeeze. "I'm here for you if you want to talk."

Caster sighed. "I'm not sure if I want to talk about that jerk. He's almost as bad as his Master."

I was taken aback by that comment. Caster and Archer seemed like they would get along fine if left alone. Whatever the hell Archer did must have really upset her.

Caster leaned her head against my shoulders and closed her eyes. "I just need to get away from everything. I wish I hadn't been summoned in this damn war."

An idea popped into my head. A smile slowly crept across my face. Caster gave me a confused look. "You just gave me a great idea! What do you say to a girls' day out tomorrow?"

~xXxXx~

"What?!" Shirou shouted at me. "You're taking Caster out to spend the day with you? Why?"

I took a deep breath and counted to ten. I slowly exhaled and gave Shirou a meaningful look. "Caster and I need a day away from all you guys to spend time with just us girls." A groan escaped my lips at his expression. "Boys will never understand."

"I can't imagine Caster agreeing to something like this."

"Well tough luck, she did agree to hang out with me."

Shirou gaped at me. Takuya spoke up before Shirou could speak again. "Don't argue with her Emiya. Once a Tohsaka has decided something you can't dissuade them from their chosen path."

"Although rude," I shot Takuya a glare, "Takuya is right. You can't talk me out of this. Besides, it'll be good for Caster and me to spend time together. She is the only other female who is here…regularly."

"What do you mean by 'regularly'?" Takuya questioned.

"You haven't told him about Taiga yet?" I smirked at Shirou's expression. "I'm not helping you get out of Taiga's wrath this time. You're on your own!"

"But I-!"

"Shirou~!"

I laughed as Taiga flew into the room. Hell was about to break loose and I didn't want to be anywhere near here when the storm hits. I waved to the two males as I left the room. Taiga's voice echoed through the house causing me to laugh again.

"Thank you Taiga and your impeccable timing!"

Caster's POV

"Do I have to try all of these clothes on?"

Rin rolled her eyes. "Do you even know how to be a girl? Of course you have to try them all on! Now get to it!"

Rin shoved me into the nearest dressing room. I stumbled a bit with the weight of all of the clothes in my arms. We had been in this store for a total of thirty minutes and Rin had grabbed every single article of clothing her eyes landed on. Her reasoning was that I needed more than just my 'Servant' clothes and my 'Human' clothes. I didn't see what the problem was with me only having two sets of clothes; hell, in the Moon Cell all I had was my school uniform and any Formal Wear I happened across or bought. Granted I only wore the Formal Wear when I was about to have an Elimination Battle but still. I wasn't used to having a lot of clothes.

I sighed in acceptance of my fate. I was the one who agreed to spend the day with Rin and since I wasn't exactly aware of what girls did when they had a 'girls' day', I was left to the mercy of Rin's imagination. I shudder to think what else she has planned for us.

"Once you get an outfit on step out so I can see you in it."

"Whatever." I looked at the pile of clothes and sighed once more.

Well, better get started!

Archer's POV

Shirou and I glared at each other behind my Master's back. Takuya sighed at our actions. It's not my fault that I had a deep dislike of the boy and that he didn't like me much either. Why had we agreed to follow the girls all day in the first place? If either girl discovered us we would be dead men. I shivered at the thought of what Caster or Rin would do to us. Those two were not to be messed with.

"Where do you think they're at?" Shirou asked.

My Master shrugged his shoulders. "Who knows? Girls are strange creatures."

"They're not that strange." I muttered. "You just don't understand people. If I had to guess, they're probably trying on clothes or eating cake or something."

"Caster doesn't seem like the type who would enjoy that stuff."

"Oh yes, you've known her for a total of, what a week, and you know everything about her?" I quipped.

"What and you think you know her best?"

Takuya interrupted us. "Enough! You two are ridiculous! No wonder the girls wanted a day away from you."

That stung a little bit.

It wasn't like I meant to upset Caster. I didn't know how to expect her to react when I…kissed her but I hadn't expected her to react that badly. She had pushed me away quite fiercely and shouted my ear off. She was quite the little spitfire when she wanted to be.

We walked around all afternoon before we finally came across the girls. They were seated outside a café and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Caster was laughing at something Rin had said. It was nice to hear her laugh sincerely. It was also nice to see her being somewhat normal. She hadn't had a lot of time to act like a normal girl while she was participating in her own Holy Grail War. A smile tugged at my lips. It was about time she was allowed to have some fun.

~xXxXx~

Caster's POV

"I can't believe you made me try on all of those clothes!" I scowled at Rin. She gave me a smug smile. "At least I talked you out of buying me that dress. I like the top and skirt you got me much better"

"Oh come on! You looked adorable in that dress Caster. You looked nice in the stuff we ended up getting too."

A slight blush came to my cheeks. "Thanks Rin"

She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm just being honest. You're a very cute girl and look amazing in anything you wear."

I glanced over at the multitude of bags that were on the ground beside our table so as to hide my ever reddening face. Several of them held items that Rin had bought for herself but only two were actually for me. One held the top and skirt we had just been discussing; the top was a navy blue with black straps that hung and exposed my shoulders while the long sleeves covered the rest of my arms. The skirt was long and white with lace lining the bottom. It fell just above my ankles. Rin had agreed that it was a nice change from the 'plain orange top' that I was currently wearing. The other bag held tall brown boots that laced up in the front. It all looked good put together. Rin kept reassuring me that I looked adorable in it and had insinuated that a certain boy would love to see me dressed up. It had taken me almost an hour to stop blushing as we waited in line to check out at the store.

I sighed. "So, what else do you want to do?"

"I guess we'll finish our lunch and head back to Shirou's place." She leaned her elbow on the table and placed her chin in her palm. She gave me a devilish smile. "But before that, let's have some girl talk."

"Girl talk? What exactly do girls talk about?"

"Boys I guess. Seeing as how all we live with is boys, we shouldn't have a problem finding something to discuss."

I laughed loudly. "I can't deny your logic. So, who should we talk about first?"

"I don't know; how about Shirou?"

I laughed again. "What is there to say about him? He's reckless, foolhardy, and stubborn as a mule. Shirou thinks he wants to be a hero but he'll just end up finding a bad ending."

I knew I was being pessimistic but the truth hurts. I sighed at myself.

"It's not like Shirou doesn't have any good points: he's caring, considerate, and puts others before himself. He's an amazing cook and sweet on top of that."

"If I didn't know any better I'd think you had a crush on your Master." Rin teased.

I stared intently into the cup in front of me. Another blush overtook my face. "Masters and Servants can't be together due to the nature of the Holy Grail War." I sank lower into my seat. "Even if I did hold some feeling for Shirou, I would just disappear and leave him in the end. I don't have much say in my fate."

Rin pondered what I said. "It doesn't seem like you to think that way. From what little time I've known you, you always seemed like a girl who didn't let anyone choose her fate for her."

"That girl doesn't exist anymore." I said darkly. "She disappeared when I became a Servant."

"How did you become a Servant? The way you talk about it, it seems like you didn't have a choice in the matter."

I gave her a small smile. "I didn't have a choice. One minute I was being deleted and the next I was being summoned by Shirou."

"'Being deleted'? What the hell does that mean?"

"It was the first Holy Grail War I was a participant in, it took place in a virtual world on the moon. Instead of seven Masters, there were one hundred and twenty eight. We each had a Servant and were assigned opponents for each week. There were seven rounds and the last Master standing was the victor."

Rin gaped at me. "Wow; there was a war like that?"

"Well, two actually. I was on either side of the moon for two separate wars with different Servants for each."

"You've got quite an interesting history." Rin replied. "I hadn't expected to learn so much about you."

"Guess I was just feeling nostalgic."

"So…is that why you act so differently around Archer?"

I choked on my drink. I knew Rin was observant but come on!

"Maybe…"

"He was your Servant in one of those wars, wasn't he?" I looked away. "And you had feelings for him. Were they reciprocated?" When I didn't reply, she let out a girlish squeal. "Oh, tell me tell me! Did you two ever kiss?"

"R-Rin!" I blushed.

"So you two have kissed! Is that why you were so upset the other night; because he kissed you again?"

"Okay!" I shouted standing up. "I'm done talking about this! Check please!"

I waved my arm frantically trying to get our waiter's attention. The poor boy finally noticed me and hurried over to us. I snatched the small piece of paper from him and placed the money on the table. Rin laughed at my behavior. She gathered up the bags and we both started back towards Shirou's house. We walked in silence for a moment before I spoke.

"Rin? Can I ask you something?"

"Fire away."

I bit my lip in slight worry. "Will you promise me that if…if something happens to me that you'll watch out for Shirou?"

The other girl glanced at me in surprise. A slow smirk crossed her face. "Should I take this as a sign that you do like him?" She chuckled at my expression. "If it makes you feel better then yes, I promise that I'll keep an eye on him."

"Thanks Rin, it means a lot to me to know that someone will still be here for him."

We reached the house soon enough and entered in comfortable silence. Rin mumbled something about sorting through the bags while she slipped passed me. I waved at her as she went. A delicious smell reached my nose and lead me to the kitchen. Smiling at the sight of Shirou hard at work cooking, I tip toed over to him and leaned in close to his ear.

"What're you cooking?"

Shirou jumped at my voice and the close proximate. A blush covered his face as he sputtered trying to find something to say. I smiled mischievously at him. Whatever was in that cake I ate earlier had obviously affected my mood, or that's what I kept telling myself. My Master took a deep breath before attempting to talk.

"I'm making dinner. Would you like to give me a hand?"

"Let me help Rin sort through everything she bought first and then I'll help."

At his nod, I left the kitchen and went towards Rin's room. I passed Archer on my way there but didn't spare him a glance. I did notice that my heartbeat slightly accelerated when our arms brushed each other. I quickened my pace after that.

When I reached Rin's door, I noticed it was slightly open. I took that to mean that I was free to enter without knocking first. Rin glanced up at me as I stepped inside. She turned her back to me and searched through the bags for a moment. She let out a small shout of victory as she finally found the bags that belonged to me.

"These two are yours."

I took the bags that she held out to me. She turned away from me again and went back to looking through her bags. I stood there for a moment before sighing loudly and sitting down next to the door. Rin stopped momentarily to give me a concerned look. I gazed up at the ceiling as I pondered my next words.

"Why do I feel the same way around Shirou as I do when I'm around Archer?" I brought my gaze back down to the floor. "Is there something wrong with me?"

It was Rin's turn to sigh. She stopped what she was doing and came over to sit next to me. A second of silence passed between us before she spoke.

"The only thing wrong with you is that you're in love. Normally a person is only in love with one person at a time. You're complication is that you're in love with two people."

I gave her a meaningful look. "Does it ever get easier?"

"I don't know. I guess this is just something you're going to have to sort this out yourself."
