Previously on "When Katniss Met Peeta":
Katniss sat, thinking about what the woman had said. When it's right, dear, you just know.
She was startled out of her thoughts when the bell on the front door of the pancake house rang. She looked up, and she smiled.
He came.
"I'm so glad I found you," Finnick breathed as he slid into Katniss's booth. "I'm so sorry, I -"
Katniss cut him off. "Are you cheating on me?"
Finnick's eyes got wide. "No! Of course not!"
"Promise?"
"Yes. Of course. You know I could never do that to you. Why would I cheat when I already have the best girlfriend a guy could ask for. I love you, Kat."
Katniss nodded. "Then let's not talk about what happened back there. We're here now. So let's just eat some pancakes, and then we can go back to your apartment and have hot, steamy make-up sex, ok?"
"But Kat," Finnick took her hand, "I really think we need to talk about this."
"No, we don't. I love you. And I trust you. If you say that you're not cheating, then you're not cheating. But, if you could do me one favor?"
He nodded vigorously. "Of course."
She smiled at him. "From now on, whenever you meet a girl whom you're comfortable hugging, tell her about me, ok?"
Finnick smiled. "You got it."
Six pancakes and several rounds on Finnick's bed later, Katniss was in the kitchen grabbing some water when the doorbell rang. She was dressed...sort of. The green button-down Finnick had been wearing earlier that day hung from her shoulders and ended mid-thigh. Normally, she wouldn't have answered the door in this manner, but as Finnick was sleeping in the bedroom, she felt that she didn't have much choice.
The door swung open.
Peeta stared at the sight before him. Katniss - his Katniss - dressed in his best friend's shirt, her hair mussed up and a satisfied smile on her face. That smile widened when she saw Peeta.
"Hey Peeta," she whispered. "What are you doing here?"
He stammered. "I...uhm...I was worried about you. I just...I wanted to check on you."
She looked at him with a confused smile. "Uhm...ok. Did you wanna come in?"
"No, that's ok. I'll just head home. I came, I checked. It's all good now." He hesitated for a moment, wanting to hug her, but not wanting the cross the boundary that suddenly seemed so visible between the two of them. "Bye." And he left.
Katniss closed the door and returned to the bedroom where Finnick appeared to have just woken up.
"Hey," he said, kissing his girlfriend's cheek. "Was someone at the door?"
She nodded. "Yeah, Peeta stopped by to check on me. Just make sure we got here alright, I guess."
Finnick rubbed his eyes. "That was nice of him. Well, I certainly feel well-rested."
"Hmm," she said, a mischievous smile spreading across her face. "If only there was something we could do. You know, now that you're energy is backā¦" Her hand began to trail down his stomach.
Finnick laughed. "You're insatiable."
And then he kissed her.
