A/N: I'm so sorry it took so long for me to update, I also apologize that this chapter may be kind of short but I hope you enjoy it!
Tobi groaned quietly as light hit her sleepy vision. She sucked in a deep breath and made her first movements of the day. She was about to push herself up before she realized that Souda was below her. She rubbed her eyes and saw him, still asleep. He seemed so at peace. His eyes comfortably shut, his mouth partially open, one arm over his head, with the other still resting on Susen's side. A small smile formed on her face. She tried to gently slide out of his grip, without waking him, only to be held firmly by the resting hand.
In his unconscious form, he pulled her close again and proceeded to curl up, with her in his arms. She was lucky to be small, or the position would have been fairly uncomfortable. She gave up and nuzzled her head into his chest. She felt like a teddy bear to her sleeping friend. She allowed her blush to show on her cheeks. She still liked him, a bit too much for her preference.
Kazuichi's single braid hung not far from her face. She gently reached up and played with it. She smiled again to herself. She subconsciously twirled it around her finger, accidentally tugging on it slightly. He groaned and squeezed his eyes shut before opening them. He used on of his hands to rub one of his eyes.
"Dammit..I slept in my contacts again..", he whispered with a sleepy tone.
"Did you sleep well?", she asked.
He let out a lazy nod and squinted his eyes open.
"No nightmares, that's an achievement.", he commented. "Oh.. sorry for trapping you.", he said, opening his arms.
"No it's okay! You're very comfortable.", she said with a smile.
"Hey, um, you might wanna get off me.", he said awkwardly.
"Hm?", she asked.
She then felt something warm on her side. She looked to see a tent forming in that area. Her face turned blood red and she accidentally fell off of the bed with a small screech. Souda instantly covered himself with the blanket and looked over to her. Her back was on the floor and her legs were over her head.
"Are you okay, Tobi?!", he said with both concern and embarrassment.
"Yep, I'm good. I totally forgot that was a thing with guys. Does it really do that every morning?", she asked, repositioning herself into a simple sit.
"Yeah..it does and it's really annoying..", he said with a sigh. "It's actually like the body checking to see if it still works.", he explained.
"Hm, interesting. Do you have to..y'know..to make it go away?"
"Nah, normally it goes away after a few minutes or if you pee. Wait-! That sounded awkward…", he said with a blush, avoiding eye contact.
"It's okay! I asked because I was curious, it's my fault."
"It's fine, really. I just didn't wanna weird you out or something, y'know?"
"Well, that's sweet of you. I guess I'm just curious because I haven't lived around a guy in a while."
"Well I'm glad you trusted me enough to ask me. I'll be right back to fix this.", he said before getting up to go the hallway's bathroom.
Susen mentally cursed herself for asking such odd questions. But she couldn't just let her curiosity stay there forever. The other part of her mind loved how close they were again. She knew it was only one day that they were apart, but to her it was a very long time.
The door creaked open again to show Kazuichi with a relieved expression.
"Much better. Wanna get dressed then get breakfast?", he offered.
"Sure! I hardly ate yesterday so I'm starving!", she said with an excited tone.
He gave her a nod and a smile before heading to his own room to get clothes. Tobi did the same and got dressed quickly. The two met back up and walked to breakfast.
The Sunday morning crowd was small, so it was easy for them to find a table.
"I'll go get you your food.", Souda said.
"Why?", she asked.
"I feel like I should do something for being an ass to you. So just wait here and I'll get it for you.", he explained before going to the line.
Souda waited in the slow line for the food for two, thinking about nothing, staring into space.
"Doesn't it bother you?", a voice said behind him.
He turned to see a girl with pink hair and big eyes, staring at him.
"Doesn't what bother me?", he asked the stranger.
"Doesn't it bother you that you have no idea what you did to her?"
"What? How do you-?"
"Oh please, everyone's talking about it."
"Everyone?"
"How rude of me. I'm Enoshima Junko, nice to meet you Souda Kazuichi.", she said with a small bow.
"Yeah, hi, but why are you talking to me?"
"To answer the question I've asked twice now! So?"
"Um, yeah, I guess. Why do you care?"
"Doesn't it fill you with despair?", she said with an aroused tone at the word.
"Why would that make me despair?", he asked, playing along.
"Imagine this incredibly possible scenario. Say you hurt her again, you would never know! She would just have enough and leave you! Never even giving you a chance at the relationship you obviously want."
"Wait a second, I never said I wanted a relationship yet."
"Keyword: yet.", she cooed.
"Wait, that's not what I-!"
"If that despair does come, come and find me so I can see your face engulfed in it.", she said.
As she left him, she put her finger on his cheek and traced it down to his chin and slipped it out from under it.
This left him confused, aggravated, thinking, and silently worrying. He quickly grabbed the food and hurried back to their table. What she said made him question how he was feeling. Did he actually like Susen in that way? Did he care more about what he supposedly did than he let on? He merely ignored the questions and sat down.
"Thank you, Kazuichi.", Tobi said happily, smiling at her friend.
"No problem, I'm just happy that we're at least friends again."
"At least?", she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, wait-! I mean-! Gah, I can't word anything right today. You know what I mean."
She let out a small giggle, but she couldn't help but notice that he seemed a little off compared to before.
As they ate, Enoshima's words seemed to echo through Souda's mind. She was twisting his words and got under his skin. He shivered at the memory of her tracing his face with a look of almost a need for his despair. Images of Tobi crying again made his stomach turn. He never wanted that to happen again, at all costs.
All he wants is to see her smile.
