"Hard to say I'm sorry" Chicago

Chapter 12: The Problem

"Whoa! Did she find you?" Cream exclaimed almost letting her ice cream cone slip between her fingers. Amy smirked and crossed her arms already reassuring Cream of her positivity. She shook her head and Cream let out a relieved sigh taking a lick of her vanilla flavored ice cream.

"I tricked Rouge to thinking I went inside the restroom by leaving the door slightly open. I went inside Sonic's closet inside his room." Amy explained grabbing her cup of orange juice and drinking it while Cream wryly stated, "You know, for someone her age she isn't very bright."

"I wouldn't say that Cream," Amy sternly said, wavering her cup.

Cream tilted her head to the side and looked puzzled. "What do you mean?"

Amy looked out the window of the café store she was in watching the passing cars and people. Her eyebrows narrowed deeply and she set her cup down. "She knew I was there, even though she couldn't conclude any specific evidence, she went out looking around."

Cream was now down to the crust of the cone and crunched on it. She took out her wallet and left two rings on the table. "I say if you make eye contact stay as you are. I bet she'll wonder up an idea or something."

"Perhaps so," Amy muttered.

She didn't much remember why she had fallen into slumber but she knew that once she woke up she was still in Sonic's room. He wasn't in the room thankfully. When she woke up Sonic wasn't at home, but he and Tails made her breakfast before Sonic had left. Amy left home safely.

School was closed for a while due to the heavy snowing, but during the weekend it had disappeared. It was somewhat sunny and here she was at an ice cream café with Cream eating. 'Exceptionally odd'

"Anyway, Amy, have you seen Sonic?" Cream suddenly asked her.

"No," Amy interrupted her voice leveling strangely. Amy's cheeks flushed brightly and her head lowered.

Cream saw her avoiding eye contact and flush. "Say, he's been asking about your whereabouts. Are you mad at him or something,"

"Or something," She admitted, getting up from her chair.

Cream smiled and got up slowly pushing her chair in. "Did something happen?"

"Can we go Cream?"

Amy didn't know why it drew affect to her, but Sonic's light kiss to her forehead still lingered on her forehead leaving quite the tingle. She didn't understand why it bothered her so much, but she's been avoiding the topic with Sonic about it since that day but now she was finding herself stuck to a closely related topic. Cream got up pushing her chair back and smiled to herself. She didn't have to reply to get an answer for her expression had already showed it. Amy walked out the café and took a deep breath calming her nerves down. Cream closed the door to the store and her smile widened. "Something did happen between you two," She announced pointing her finger at her enthusiastically.

"Nothing big, Cream." Amy finally admitted.

"Did you two kiss?!" She nearly shouted, getting hints from Amy's blushing.

"No!" Amy said fazed, but she continued to state more. "I mean, he did-but in my head…I think," She said distantly trying to remember how it went.

"No way!" Cream squealed, jumping in place, but Amy grabbed her arm and pulled her down close to her.

"You never heard any of this okay." Amy warned her.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone—"

"Not even Sonic!"

"Okay, not even Sonic, but this did process in my head and the fact stays: Sonic likes you." Cream told her holding herself from exploding with giddy emotions.

"Stop it Cream." Amy sighed walking away from her and down the street. Cream followed behind her with a cheesy smile and skipped to her side. "What? You don't like Sonic?"

"Not in that way." Amy whispered rather harshly.

Cream's smile faded away and she frowned up at her friend. "So you like him as a friend,"

Amy stopped midway on the sidewalk and Cream flinched that she had stopped so instantly. Amy turned to Cream and her eyebrows narrowed. She stared intensively into Cream's brown eyes and finally she spoke. "I want him kept close," She muttered then averted her eyes forward and continued walking. Cream raised her eyebrow and shook her head sadly watching her leave. "Amy,"

Sonic looked at Tails mischievously from a far corner. Tails was with their group of friends near the locker but none of them seem to notice Sonic, but Tails. Sonic faced away from him and spotted his target which was coming down the hall, a beautiful chipmunk with long brown hair was waving her hand to a few of her girls one of them being Amy, but sadly as much as he wanted to greet her he couldn't. Not yet.

Tails shook his head and covered his face with both his hands not wanting to see what devious plot Sonic had in mind.

"Are you okay Tails?" Knuckles asked, chuckling a bit.

Tails half ignored him letting his hand slightly fall so that he could peek through his fingers, "I hope so,"

Sally began moving towards them and Sonic gave Tails thumbs up before speeding his way down the hall the air blowing pass each student that walked there. Tails turned to Knuckles and his gang. He hesitated to speak, but found a way to through stuttering, "U-um guys, h-have you guys seen Sonic?"

Shadow made an imposing glance over to him and Tails got nervous drops of sweat forming along his forehead. He looked around vigorously as if he were looking around for Sonic. Silver rubbed his chin. "No, I haven't seen him since yesterday."

Sonic smirked as he approached Sally and ran faster than he was until he got to her side, purposely bumped into her shoulder throwing off a book and a few papers she was holding. She screeched as her papers fell and the wind blew her hair to her face ruining her hairstyle. Sonic stopped and smirked as his plan had worked. Sally growled and moved strands of hair aside and her eyes met with the blue hedgehog's emerald orbs. Her chest tightened and she stood frozen staring at him. Tails turned his head and his eyes widened. "He's over there," he said a little distant. Everyone turned watching Sonic approach the chipmunk.

"Whoa, sorry," Sonic began bending down to pick up some of her papers. "I went a little too fast there," he said looking cheeky.

Amy's breath hitched and she stopped her friends extending her hands out in front of them. The girls questioned her actions at first, but once they turned where Amy faced it went quiet. Amy on the other hand grew nervous and she looked around spotting Tails acting jumpy and his friends looking rather surprised.

Sally's senses came back when he quietly picked up paper by paper. She bend down to pick up the rest of her papers not saying a word. Sonic's smirk widened as she proceeded doing so and he got up his grin gone and more of an apologetic look formed. "Here," He said handing her the papers.

"Thanks," She quietly said.

Amy and her friends looked in aghast out at Sally who looked like she was thanking him.

"Is she talking to him?" Mina questioned, appalled.

"Why is he being nice to her, that's the real question?" Fiona scoffed.

Sonic cheerful smiled at her with a laugh that tingled down her eardrums. "Anytime," He gave her thumbs up before he sped down the hall and disappeared around a corner.

"There goes Sonic," Silver said hopelessly.

Knuckles eyed Sally while she stood in the middle of the hall puzzled. Meanwhile Sally's friends all approached her in a crowd beginning to question her. Amy, although, kept her distance and stared in the same direction Sonic had disappeared from sight on, only he didn't disappear. He was hiding behind a farther corner staring back at her. Amy dangerously stared back at him but Sonic returned a wink unabashed and left her sight.

Knuckles noticed the pink hedgehog that stood in the far away from her peers. She turned her head and he was finally able to see her face, but only the side. She walked over to her friends who were still questioning Sally. He snapped his fingers and leaned to Shadow. "That girl," He began getting Shadow's attention. "I know her,"

Tails' ears perked up and he turned with his mouth slightly open. Silver's eyebrow rose and he said, "But she's from Sally's group."

"I think I've met her somewhere before," He said distantly, but Tails responded quickly.

"Wait, but how would you know if you think," Tails suddenly demurred.

"Because I've seen her before with Sonic," Knuckles finally said making everyone's eyes pop. Tails looked away at Sally's group who was leaving down the hall and he bites his lip.

"Sonic with that pink chick? No way, Sonic wouldn't try to break into that group." Silver said shaking his head.

"Then why do you suppose he was talking to Sally a minute ago," Shadow questioned crossing his arms. His tone was firm without much emotions but he sounded as if he was wondering. Tails couldn't stand being unable to tell them what Sonic's true intentions were and he turned around and left. Silver eyed Tails' stalking away down the hall and rubbed his chin.

"You guys," Silver began. "Maybe it'd be best not to be jumping into conclusions."

"Yea, I'm a have a talk with Sonic." Knuckles said decisively and then turned around to follow after Tails. Shadow stared at Silver and then with his head gestured for them to follow too. Silver did as told and they both followed.

.:xXx:.

Sonic walked out of the school doors that afterschool. He looked around but still he couldn't spot that special someone he was looking for. He hadn't seen her all day and he was beginning to wonder if she was avoiding him because of this morning's event and their weekend sleepover. Still, he didn't want to wonder about it, he wanted to find her and so he spend around front of the school and stopped every now and then to see if he could spot her anywhere. Meanwhile a pair of eyes followed his and narrowed intensively as he got closer and closer. Sonic wasn't aware of these eyes that followed him and instead kept doing what he did best: run.

He stopped around a lonely corner where there weren't many students around and he scratched his head. "Did she leave already?"

Suddenly a pair of hands grabbed him from behind and covered his mouth so he wouldn't make a sound as he was thrown to the ground behind the building. He hit his head hard on the grass and he winced. When he opened one eye he saw Amy glaring down at him, her dark lifeless eyes piercing at his. His smile widened and he laughed, "Amy, I was looking for you!"

She clutched his shirt tightly and pulled him up to her face threateningly. "What on earth are you planning!?" she snarled.

Sonic had never seen Amy look so mad, but he didn't feel fear. He mischievously got closer now that their nose touched and he replied, "What do you think I'm planning?"

She pushed him back down. "Are you trying to make friends with Sally?"

"Bingo,"

"Sonic you're deranged!" She exclaimed not so loud that people would hear her but enough that he flinched.

"No, I'm only trying to fix what's been broken." He said sounding serious now. He got up from the grass and dusted himself.

Amy shook her head and she clenched her fist. "Broken?! Nobody is broken—"

"Wrong! Knuckles and Sally keep their distance and us; we're paying the price are we not?" He rebuked.

Amy closed her mouth shut and was unable to continue her argument. Sonic growled when she didn't say anything and kept her sharp look at him. He spun around but came back saying, "You can't be seen talking to Cream so you do it by secrets. Same feelings apply to me! I want to be able to be your friend and let everyone know!"

Amy bit her lip still unable to say anything. He was rising a good point but still she didn't want to approve of it. She averted her eyes and that only ticked Sonic. He placed his hands on her shoulder. "They're mad over a peevish past and because they haven't made amends yet I'm willing to make that step for them!"

"What's happening between them isn't supposed to be your concern as it isn't for anyone else." She muttered angrily.

"But we're involved! Don't you understand that!?" He roared loudly not caring if anyone heard him. Amy covered his mouth and pushed him further behind the wall so that nobody would be able to see them, but Sonic grabbed her hand and turned her around so that her back would be against the hard wall instead of him. Amy struggled against his grip but Sonic held her tightly and looked straight into the depths of her cold eyes.

"Let me go!" She whined.

Sonic released her, but his hands rested up on the wall firmly each hand beside her which frightened her into silence. He leaned into her face slowly saying, "I'm not going to live in this hate. I'm making friends with Sally whether you like it or not. You're going to have to get use to me hanging around with you in public."

Amy could only death glare him as he slowly moved away from her face and stepped back. He looked at her wistfully, but turned around. "I'll see you around,"

He ran off leaving a small printed image of where Sonic once was on Amy's brain. Amy finally was able to gasp for air and she fell to her knees. She saw the determination in his eyes, which for the first time, caused her to feel true fear. Her heart was beating rapidly and she found her forehead sweating out of the apprehensive feeling of what might happen if anyone found out Sonic's true intentions. Her ears twitched at the sound of familiar sounds. Amy backed away against the wall and around the corner she saw Sally with all her friends.

"Do you think he might like you?" Mina's voice questioned, but all the girls glared at her except Sally.

"Please Mina, be realistic. Sonic could be playing around to make Knuckles jealous or something." Fiona suggested quite pestered.

They were leaving the doors to the school and Amy peeked slightly. "Or maybe he accidently did bump into her and he was only picking up Sally's things and making conversation, " Blaze suddenly claimed.

"Blaze!" The girls growled, but Sally interrupted them loudly, "Stop it you guys!"

Amy saw that sally looked bothered, more bothered than she'd ever seen her in a while. Sally turned around and continued walking back out school and all the girls followed her looking like if they were apologizing and they properly were. Amy went back behind the wall and crossed her arms. "What are you thinking Sally?"
