"Where is she?" I demanded, walking into the family room.
Mother smiled, "Zachary, have a seat."
"Where is she?" I asked again, standing firmly in place, staring at my mother.
Smiling still, she answered, "She asked for a break and I gave it to her. Your new bodyguard will be here tomorrow."
I looked away, "What did you say to her?"
Her smile only became sweeter, though it looked bitter in my eyes, "Nothing she didn't already know."
"Cam, what happened?" Liz questioned, sitting on her bed.
I shook my head, "Nothing. I just needed some time off."
"Isn't it obvious? She took the risk, and his mother found out," Bex stated before looking at Macey, "you really shouldn't have told her to do that."
Macey rolled her eyes, "He didn't sound like a quitter."
I closed my eyes, "He didn't, Mace. I did."
An awkward silence followed, only to be broken by Liz, "Do you need a ride to school?"
I nodded wordlessly.
Bex spoke next, "Who's getting assigned to Zach now anyways?"
"Aunt Abby."
A week passed, and I was getting back into the usual routine.
"Cammie, you forgot this," a boy ran up, handing over a pencil.
I smiled, "Thanks."
"I can't believe you resigned!" Macey exclaimed, shaking her head at me.
I shrugged, "What else could I do?"
"Go back to work?" Bex replied, slight hint of disappointment in her voice. "We know you want to see him again."
I looked down, shuffling my feet, "What does that matter? Either Catherine will separate us, or he'll get married to Anna and we'll be separated anyways."
"Are you free tonight?" the boy asked, breaking me out of my trance.
I forced a smile, "Sorry, maybe next time."
I walked out of class, as fast as I could, but ran into a tall figure in my haste.
"There better not be a next time," a voice said, its familiarity stopping any train of thought that may have existed in my head.
I slowly looked up, scared to see the face that also made my heart flutter.
Zach.
