Sorry it's been so long since I updated. Please forgive me :)

Just a few things. I know that this story isn't 100% accurate. I do try to keep to the timeline as close as I can, but sometimes I make mistakes or miss something when I'm checking out dates or the order of events. I know that JK has recently released Remus' life story, which now contradicts the death's of his parents several chapters ago in my story. This is me, acknowledging that this fanfiction is not completely accurate. So please don't tell me that I've said something that happened differently, this is my version of events that I have tried to keep in the spirit of JK's story and characters.

Thank you for reading

Chapter 12

Remus

"Doesn't she look lovely, Remus?" Jasmine says, smiling.

"She does," I say, "You look really beautiful Lily." And it's the truth. The dress is pearl white, a startling contrast to her red hair that, entwined with tiny white roses, curls gently around her pale shoulders. The sleeves are big at the shoulders, but below that hug her arms tightly to her wrist. The many-layered skirt is decorated with flowers and stretches out a couple of feet behind her. The top of the dress is quite low cut at the front, but not so much that it's indecent. And I'm not looking at her like that anyway.

"Thanks Remus," She grins at me.

"Oh Lily," Mrs Evans says as she comes into the room, hugging her daughter and smiling as though she has never been happier, "You look absolutely wonderful."

"Mum, do you know when Petunia's getting here?" Lily says hesitantly. I know that she had been hoping that her sister would be her bridesmaid at the wedding, but no one really thinks that Petunia will show up.

"Sweetie," Lily's mum says kindly, "I don't think she's coming. She finds all this magic stuff," I suppress a grin, "Really very difficult. And she's very busy with this new boyfriend of hers at the moment. They're looking at buying a flat together, did I tell you that? And, well, you know that she gets very intimidated by all these witches and wizards around the place…"

Lily sighs, "Okay. Fine. You'll have to be my bridesmaid, Jasmine."

"Me?" Jasmine looks genuinely shocked. The two have been close since we formed the Order, but I guess she thought that Lily would ask one of her old school friends.

"Yes, you."

"I won't fit into Petunia's dress, and we don't have time to make adjustments to it!"

"Don't worry about it! You look very pretty in what you're wearing." Now Jasmine does look amazing. She's wearing a purple, tight fitting dress that shows off her curves and her wonderful legs and perfect shoulders and…

"You know, I'm having a great time, but I need to go see James," I kiss Lily on the cheek and wish her good luck before leaving.

I stand in the corridor outside, leaning against the wall. I need to stop thinking about Jasmine. I know that nothing can happen between us, that it'd probably ruin her life if she ended up with me, but I just want to be with her all the time. She is so beautiful, and when she smiles it's like her whole face lights up. Sometimes you meet someone, and they are just so completely perfect that you literally can't stop thinking about them because every single thing reminds you of them.

But I can't. I don't have a job. I live in a one room flat in one of the worst areas in London. I turn into a huge wolf once a month. I'm not really an ideal boyfriend.

And I can't afford to think that maybe she wouldn't mind.

I push open the door to find my friends, all in their dress robes, standing around in James' bedroom. His parents have very kindly allowed their son to hold the wedding at his home. Which makes sense, because he has a large garden, and lots of rooms for the guests. Whenever I come round James' house, I get the sense that his bedroom has barely changed in all the years he's lived in it. Sure, the walls grow more and more covered by photos and Gryffindor memorabilia with each passing year, and the clothes in his wardrobe have been replaced countless times. But apart from that, it still has the feeling of someone's childhood bedroom.

"Mooney!" James says, smiling nervously as he sees me.

"At last," Sirius grins, "We thought you'd gotten lost. Wow. You managed to find robes that don't look like they're five sizes too big."

"Lily helped me pick them out. I was just chatting with her, that's why I wasn't here. Sorry, I should have been with you guys."

"It's not a problem. You're here now, aren't you? How is she?"

"She looks beautiful, James, and very happy. But Petunia hasn't showed up."

"Damn. Who's going to be her bridesmaid then?"

"I think Jasmine's going to do it…" I say, trying to sound as though I don't really care. But from James and Peter's knowing expressions, I don't think I've fooled them. I can't see Sirius' face; he's turned away, presumably to look out the window.

There're a lot of people outside, Prongs. We should probably get going," he says, absentmindedly, and at the moment, I get the feeling that he really couldn't care less about the wedding. That doesn't make sense though, because he's James' best man, his best friend and should be happy for him.

"Okay," James says, straightening his tie, "Let's go."

James

Outside, the grass is covered with a light frost. The trees, skeletal without their leaves, look as though they've been dusted with icing sugar. Blue fires glow amongst the white, sending up sapphire coloured sparks into the grey sky. I stand beneath an arch, and though its wooden structures someone has threaded lilies, pink, purple, yellow and orange, the colours jump out against the cold white of the winter morning, where it feels that everything should be cold and white.

The assembled crowd chatter quietly amongst themselves, some with small, hand held flames to keep them warm against the frost. My parents sit in the front row next to Lily's, grinning at me. My mum hasn't been well over the last few months, but today she looks happy and healthy. I smile back at them, wondering if they can see how nervous I am.

We're young to be getting married, I know that. It's one of the reasons that we've put it off for longer than necessary. But we don't know how much longer we'll survive in this stupid war, I mean, there was a time when we thought that we'd live forever, but we aren't stupid. I just want to have long enough with Lily for us to be happy together, whatever happens.

A gasp shudders through the crowd as Lily comes out of the house. Jasmine walks behind her, holding a bouquet of white flowers. The floor shimmers like glitter as they walk on the frosty ground. I am distantly aware of music playing in the background, but I'm not listening. I'm watching her.

She's smiling at me, and her whole face seems to glow with happiness. And I know that I will love her from this moment on, for the rest of my life, forever and ever.

It's not a long chapter, but I promise that I'll update again soon x
