Beckoning
Juno was pissed. She sat at her desk and tapped her pen furiously. She had her people searching everywhere for Betelgeuse and the Deetz girl. So far, there wasn't even a trace of them. Something wasn't right about this. She could usually find him, just by tracking his "juice." Wherever he was, he either wasn't using it, which she doubted, or there was no way to detect it. She had gotten so desperate a few days ago, that she had gone to see the Maitlands. They were frantic. So were Lydia's parents. They had called the police and hired a private detective. Everyone said it was like the girl had just fallen off the planet. When she had finished interrogating Barbara and Adam, for any little clue, she went to Lydia's bedroom. The police had already searched the place, leaving Juno very little to go through. But she was looking for things the police wouldn't know about. She started with the ring of candles. She noticed the items inside the circle, aloe, vervain, sweet grass. Juno sighed. "Shit," she said aloud. She didn't need to see anymore. She knew exactly what Lydia had been doing. "Stupid girl," she hissed. She looked at the mirror. It was cloudy. Someone had been watching Lydia, and Juno knew exactly who that someone was. She walked over to the vanity, and leaned into the mirror frame. The basement. So that was his little hiding place. Juno sighed again. "Dammit," she said, "where the hell are you two?"
When she got back to her office, she pulled out Betelgeuse's file. Maybe she could find something that would point to where they had snuck off to. She lit another cigarette and began reading. She wondered how Betelgeuse had managed to get around the whole "no juice" rule, and where Lydia Deetz had learned to summon ghosts.
Betelgeuse was pacing again. Lydia sat on the bed and watched him. She chewed her lip nervously. They had been reading over the book for a few days and hadn't found anything to help them. Lydia thought it had been nice. They had been working together to find a way out. There had been no screaming, no crying, not even a hint of animosity. They had forged a very unlikely bond. When she was nervous, he tried to be comforting, and when he was frustrated, she tried to calm him. It was a nice change, one that neither of them took for granted. Betelgeuse turned and looked at her. She eyed him warily. "What?" she asked. He frowned. "You bein alive is gonna be a problem." he said. "Well excuse me for breathing,' she replied sarcastically. He gave her an unimpressed look and flopped down on the bed. "Could kill ya," he said, turning to gage her reaction. "No thank you," she said, annoyed. "Eh, it was just a thought," he replied absently. "We have to come up with something, Beej, My parents are probably insane by now." she said. Betelgeuse grinned at her, "Truthfully, babes, I think it's too late for that." Lydia laughed. She picked up the book again and opened it. "How do people get out of Limbo?" she asked. Betelgeuse closed his eyes and tried to remember if anyone ever had. He couldn't think of anyone. He sat up suddenly, causing her to jump. "What the hell…" she said, tersely. Betelgeuse looked at her with a strange look on his face. "Can't believe I haven't just tried to 'juice' us outta here." he said. Lydia's mouth fell open. "If that works, I will kill you again." Betelgeuse smirked. "Yeah, yeah," he said, "c'mere." He held out his hand to her. She flinched a little. Betelgeuse sighed. "You wanna get outta here or not?" he asked impatiently. Lydia stood and tentatively took his hand. He pulled her close, causing her to gasp. "Close your eyes," he said, pulling her a bit closer. She gave him a nervous look. She felt a hot twisty feeling in her stomach. "C'mon, babes," he said, "gotta trust somebody sometime." She sighed, but closed her eyes and let him wrap his arms around her. Before she could change her mind, the room started spinning. She squeezed her eyes shut tighter, and held onto him with all her strength. No matter what, at that moment, she didn't want him to let go. After what seemed like hours, she heard him sigh heavily. She opened her eyes to find them in the exact same spot. "It didn't work," she said quietly. "No shit," he replied. She was still holding on to him, and his arms were still around her. He looked down at her with an almost tender look on his face, and wondered why she hadn't pushed him away by now. Her voice was almost a whisper, "Are we gonna be stuck here forever?" Betelgeuse let go of her with one arm and hooked his finger under her chin, raising her face to his. "Would it be so bad?" he asked, before he could stop himself. Surprisingly, she smiled at him. "Not really," she said. She tightened her grip on him just a bit. Instinctively, he lowered his lips to her, firmly expecting her to smack him. When she raised herself up on tiptoe and parted her lips slightly, he almost lost it. He slowly deepened the kiss, careful to let her control the situation. She kissed him with every ounce of emotion she had. She ran her hands up his back, eliciting a shiver from him. He pulled her in again, raising her off the floor. She let out a soft moan against his lips, and he broke the kiss. "Lyds," he said softly. She looked up at him those big brown eyes. "Beej," she hummed softly. "Lydia," he said, surprising her, "what are we doin'?" She gazed up at him tenderly, "This," she said, pressing her lips to his once again.
