Author's Notes
And...the end. I was a bit worried in the middle when it dropped off for a few years, but it came together. Not the best fic I've written by a long shot though. I guess that's what happens when there's such a huge gap. Things change, and people change as well. I hope my next fic will be a little more consistent in that department. :D

Epilogue
He looked at his spread of cards. Five cards: four encircling the fifth, the centre one. He turned it over, even though he'd done this time and time again. And, as expected, the card did not change. Destiny did not change.
He looked at it anyway. The Fool, upright. Jaden Yuki…and he could see Jaden Yuki's face there, within the depths of that image. The Fool he was, beyond a shadow of doubt. The one with untapped potential. Upside down it signified foolishness and recklessness – but the cards saw deeper than that. They saw what was buried underneath.
He'd suspected it then, when he'd seen the Justice in reverse beneath it. The Justice: upright signifying order, but upside down signifying the lack or destruction thereof. In other words, something that went against order: against destiny.
And Jaden Yuki had done that twice over: regaining is mind, body and soul from the Light that had failed to consume him, and having defeated the second attempt. Because he'd seen Aster's win; seen it…but not quite believed it. He'd guessed, even then. That Jaden Yuki might be the one.
Now he had his proof. The Fool was still up right; the Justice still in reverse below it, and he flipped the card to make sure. That part of the pattern had not changed. But there was no Hermit now. No Tower. New cards had taken their place: the Hierophant in reverse; the Wheel of Fortune, upright.
That was an interesting one: the Wheel of Fortune represented both destiny and a turning point in one's path. Both rang true to his visions: the path he saw leading to its result, and the boy with the power to change that.
His eyes narrowed, demanding an answer from the cards. They told him nothing new. No way to battle a force that could defy even destiny's call. All they did was confirm what he'd already inferred.
His phone rang, but he made no move to answer it. He had more important matters to attend to.
