Thank you, guys, for putting up with my not posting-if you did. I just... I don't know. Thank you, bestclarinetist123 for reviewing again, and thinking it was great you were mentioned on my story :).even though it has only about... 13 reviews! :) plus the ones I did. Thanks, and now for the (very short, bad) chapter!
Beetlepaw whipped her head around, peering at these starry cats emerging out of the trees. Her heart wrenched when she saw little Lightningkit padding along with them. She thought that Mouseclaw was there, and almost collapsed in grief for Lilacfur, but then realized that it was a wiry she-cat. Pretty transparent... Beetlepaw cocked her head at the she-cat, confused. She mouthed the word "Mousefur" and kept walking.
Within seconds, all the cats had stopped. A pretty brown she-cat stepped up.
"Hello, Beetlepaw, i am Leafpool. A very long time ago, i made some... What others might call mistakes, but i take them very differently, i am glad what happened. But you, Beetlepaw, you show many qualities that a medicine cat should have, and i am so glad to grant you your full medicine cat name." Leafpool paused.
"R-really?" Beetlepaw gasped. Leafpool looked amused.
"Yes." She purred. "Beetlepaw, do you promise to treat your clan no matter?"
"Of course"
"Then i pronounce you Beetlefur!" All of the StarClan warriors and medicine cats started to cheer her name. Deep into the crowd, there was Lightningkit chanting as loud as he could.
Beetlefur called out his name, and tried to run towards him, but he shook his head, and called "no time, love you, miss you, summon me!"
Gradually, the dream got foggier and foggier, wobblier and wobblier, then Beetlefur woke up at the moonpool. There was the ghostly cat again, with two transparent kits, as always. He disappeared again as always.
Beetlefur pondered what Lightningkit had said to her. "Summon me". Beetlefur just decided she would figure that out later. She waited for the other medicine cats to wake up.
"Um, Beetlefur, congratulations. I remember my ceremony..." Birdsong drifted off for a moment, but then she came back. "You saw a kit you knew, i see? Was it... Was it Lightningkit?" She asked timidly.
"Thanks, and yes, he was. It was great seeing him, you don't have to feel so guilty for asking. I am over it... Mostly. I mean, i can never be fully over that he didn't get his full life, but he seems happy."
"Okay. Well, bye." The other medicine cats walked off.
"So BeetleFUR, how do you feel?" Brownpool purred.
"It's so great having my full name! It is very filling." Beetlefur exclaimed.
"It's amazing you have so much enthusiasm for somethjng you haven't even experienced for one night. How are you going to tell your family and friends?"
"Honeystar will announce it. But there's more.. I am sure it'll work."
...
When they got back to the camp, Beetlefur put on her best "grim" face. Cherrystripe bounced up to her.
"Hi Beetlepaw. Lilacfur is with Mouseclaw. Why are you so down?"
"Well... You'll see. I... You have to wait, but i promise you'll know." Beetlefur shot her best friend a pleading look.
"Okay, okay. I'll wait, but you can tell me anything. Cricketnose, Woodtail, Lilacfur, and Honeystar too." Cherrystripe glanced at Brownpool. "Brownpool looks fine... Was it a dream you had with StarClan?"
Beetlefur thought for a moment, then realized it wouldn't be lying if she said yes.
"Yes, it was. I would love to tell you, i am dying to, but the sooner i tell Honeystar the sooner you know." Beetlefur felt so low for tricking her friend like this, even though she hadn't told a lie yet, but she hoped the end result was going to make her and her friends mrrow.
Beetlefur padded up to Honeystar's little cave. "Honeystar?"
"Come in, Beetlepaw"
"Hi Honeystar." Beetlefur mewed. "I'm not Beetlepaw anymore. I'm Beetlefur now!"
"Oh that's great! I have to announce it to the clan!"
"Thanks, Honeystar! I can't wait to see their faces. But, speaking of that-could you make it seem bad? You don't have to, well, of course you don't, 'cause your the leader and..." Beetle fur trailed off, realizing she was babbling and sounding dumb.
"I'll see what I can do." Honeystar mrrowed in amusement.
"Thank you so much, Honeystar!"
"OK, come on, Beetlefur."
They walked out of Honeystar's cave, and hopped the tail length down onto the ground. Honeystar then clambered up to the highrock, and called in a loud tone,
"All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather around the highrock!"
Everybody gathered, questioning the somber tone. Lilacfur and Cherrystripe bounded up to sit next to Beetlefur. Lilacfur looked worried, and Cherrystripe seemed curious to Beetlefur.
"Beetlepaw, you can tell us!" Cherrystripe hissed as the clan settled in and the nose shrank. Lilacfur bobbed her head quickly in agreement, but Beetlefur flicked her ears to signal "no".
"BeetlePAW, has had an important dream with StarClan, a VERY important one. Would she please come up?" Honeystar looked in her direction, causing Beetlefur to feel butterflies. She was not expecting to go up.
She walked up, attracting the gaze of all the clan cats. Cricketnose was puzzled, as was Brightkit and Robinkit.
She hopped up to the rock, the warmth relaxing her pads.
Beetlefur looked down, at all these cats. She felt so wrong, for being up here for such a pointless thing.
"Well, Honeystar is right..." Beetlefur trailed off, and looked again at her clan. They seemed to be straining to listen.
"Honeystar is right," Beetlefur called loud enough this time. "My dream was important, to me at least." She had gotten quieter at the end, but it looked like they could hear. "And I hope to many of you as well. I love ThunderClan, dearly, and it is with great..." Beetlefur trailed off, nearly biting her tongue in pride, yet it looked as if she was in agony. "With great honor," she started again. "I have been given... My full medicine cat name! Beetlefur!" She yelled the last part out with gusto. Her friends' and familys' faces were priceless.
After a few chants of "Beetlefur, Beetlefur!", she hopped down, and Honeystar dismissed the meeting. She was surrounded.
"Wait a minute, Cherrystripe and Lilacfur..." She wanted to talk to her family.
"Beetlefur, you didn't tell us!" Woodtail cuffed her ear playfully.
"Yes, you had us worried, Beetlefur!" Cricketnose mrrowed and touched her nose to Beetlefur's cheek. "But I am so proud! My daughter, a FULL medicine cat! The next gathering is going to be great! They'll announce you, and I can brag to the other queens and say 'that is MY daughter!'"
"Thanks, Cricketnose and Woodtail!"
"Beetlefur, can you play?" Brightkit mewed, licking one of her white splotches clean.
"Yeah, Beetlefur!" Robinkit said, his firey pelt standing out against the near dusk.
"Oh, I guess!" And they played with a mossball, until the sun had set.
