A/N
Thank you for the reviews!
I've pasted 50 reviews and it's all thanks to you incredible little ducklings!
Reading them makes me so happy!
"How long will the painkillers last?" Hattori asked.
"3 hours?" I replied, panting as I struggled to get up the stairs.
Ignoring my protest, Hattori hoisted me up by my hip and dragged me up the stairs.
I pouted at the detective. "I could've done that on my own"
The detective snorted. "Yea. In ten hours, maybe you could've got up on your own."
I felt a faint blush reach my face. "Whatever. Have you remembered the cover story? Because if you call me Kudo, I will actually trottle you"
Hattori scratched his head sheepishly. "I'm not that bad, Taylor" he said, calling my alias.
I rolled my eyes at his obvious discomfort of saying the name.
After yesterday's phone call, I attempted to sneak out by myself, but was caught by Hattori and forced to bring him to the police station.
It was embarrassing to be caught when you're about to jump from a window.
Because my body was somewhere between Conane's and my actually body, I knew the police force won't recognise me, hence the reason for the alias, Taylor.
"Okay. So you've been born in America, and recently came to Japan." Hattori confirmed my cover story.
"Yes, and if they ask me anything personal, I could always tell them it's classified" I said, practicing my broken accented japanese.
Hattori halted in surprise. "You are really good at the fake accent" he commented.
I beamed. "Am I? I've been practicing the whole last night"
Shaking his head in amusement, Hattori and I walked along the corridor to see Megure-Keibu.
I grabbed the end of Hattori's jacket nervously as I saw the door.
Giving me a reassuring pat, he peeked his head in.
"Hello! Megure-keibu!"He shouted cheerfully.
Shy girl persona. Shy girl persona. This will confuse them and make identifying me much harder.
Reminding myself, I hesitantly walked in the room, still clutching Hattori's jacket.
"Ano. Hello, Megure-keibu" I quietly said in my broken Japanese.
The inspector stared at the two of us. "That's not Shinichi" he asked almost accusingly.
Hattori grinned. "But it's the best it's going to get. She's as smart as Kudo herself. Kudo sent her along because she is currently occupied. Her name's Taylor."
Megure frowned. "More important then police work?"
"Something like that. Now can you fill us in the information?" Hattori said, easing the topic.
Megure looked at me for a split second before talking. "Well, when I walked in my office, he was just sitting on my desk. I tried to call the other police members, but they were all out from the sleeping gas. He put down the heist note on my desk, with the picture. He said,
'I'm sure Kudo Shinichi will agree. She'll make sure that it's held privately. It's where we first battled'
then he the lights turned off. When the lights turned on back again, he was gone" he recited the situation.
"Why did he contact you? I'm aware that Nakamori-keibu is the one who has more experience with handling Kid" I asked.
Megure looked surprised at my question. "I didn't think about that"
I felt Hattori sigh at the response.
Police force is only good with man power. I thought wryly.
The inspector coughed in order to gather our attention again. "So, we've made few preparation in order to catch the thief." He said, pulling out a file
I frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Well, he's a criminal so we should try to catch him"
Hattori sighed once again. "It's not going to work. He already knows the police force. He probably planted bugs when he was here. Everything we're saying is probably going to him right now. Also, if he initiated this meeting, it means that he prepared throughly." he reasoned.
"Heiji-nii's right. I think the best course of option is to listen to his request. He obviously has something to say to Shinichi-nee"
I felt a slight annoyance as the inspector ignored me, but stared at Hattori for confirmation.
When I get my body back, this isn't going to happen again.
"So do you know where the location is?" Megure asked.
I feigned a look of ignorance. "I'll ask Shinichi-nii, but I may have to go to in her place. You can call her and ask for yourself."
Sensing the tension, Hattori patted my shoulder. "We have to go because of.. ah.. we have stuff on, but we'll make sure to give you an update if anything new happens"
And with that, we walked out of the room.
"So?"
I looked at the detective. "What?"
"Where is it?"
I smirked. "The question 'Where is it' could be defiled as a question for everything. Where is Waldo? I don't know. Where is the answer to malaria? I don't know."
This time, Hattori did a exaggerated sigh. "Where is the spot that Kudo-sama and Kid battled?"
I grinned. "Clock Tower"
I sighed unhappily. "Why are you here?" I asked Hattori, who was leaning on the wall.
"Because if you have a medical emergency, I need to take care of you."
"I can take care of myself, thank you" I scowled.
Hattori raised his eyebrows.
"Shut up" I muttered, hearing a slight laugh from him.
I looked around in the room, which was much better then how it was before. I could see through the clock and see the moving hands of the working clock.
I shook my leg as it started to fall asleep.
"Are you okay? I know you took a new batch of painkillers, but it only lasts for another thirty minutes."
I rolled my eyes. "I know, I know. I can feel it starting to wear off a bit. I can't overdose on morphine or I'll become addicted."
Hattori frowned, obviously not happy with the decision of me being here. "Why aren't you at home resting?" he grumbled.
"Because I'm a 'strong-headed idiot'" I replied, quoting from Haibara, who was also not happy with the this notion.
"At least you know that you're stupid?"
"Kazuha thinks you're more stupid then me" I nonchalantly brought up. "Speaking of Kazuha, can you leave her for this long of a time?"
Immeidately, Hattori started blushing. "Wh-Why are you bring up Kazuha all the sudden?" he mumbled out.
I smiled. "No reason. I'm just curious. She's really pretty and it's time for her to get a boyfriend" I said, in the most innocent tone I can acquire.
I almost crackrled up laughing and Hattori looked murderous at the thought of Kazuha having a boyfriend that wasn't him.
"Actually, I think Kazuha was going to ask out a guy she liked" I said, not able to resist the urge to tease the detective.
This time, I laughed as Hattori obviously looked mad and uncomfortable at the thought.
A short period of time passed until it was broken again.
"When is Kid coming? I'm hungry" Hattori whined.
"Well, he didn't specify the time. But it should be around.. now"
Ring
I grinned as the clock hit twelve signaling midnight.
"Hello, Kid-san" I said, still keeping up with my fake persona and my accent.
"Hello, Taylor-san"
