"Sometimes I wonder how my life would have been had I not fallen in love."

Two pairs of brown eyes and one set of grey turned to look at the middle aged man sitting in the reclining chair with an icepack on his head and his eyes closed in pain.

The youngest of the three frowned. "But then you wouldn't have Hinata and I."

Hiashi opened his brown eyes briefly to look at the three girls. "My point exactly."

Hanabi's lip curled and she stuck her tongue out at her father before turning away with her nose in the air. Hinata blushed and looked over at her best friend who merely smirked.

"I didn't mean to hit you with the apple, Pops, promise! I was aiming for your little brat over here." Tenten said as she pulled Hanabi into a headlock who growled and struggled to get free.

"Once again, Tenten, don't call me that. You make me sound old." Hiashi groaned and sat up in the recliner before gesturing to the broken table and various other broken objects on the floor. "You girls finish cleaning this up, I'm going to go lie down." He waited until each of them nodded before getting up and walking to his bed room.

"Let go you frickin amazon!"

"Who're you calling an amazon you brat?!"

Hinata giggled as she watched her best friend tussle with her sister. Tenten was strong, very strong in fact. What many people didn't know was that her friend secretly lifted weights on a regular basis. They can't necessarily put cameras in everyone's home…or can they? She shook her head before the thought could go any further, she didn't want to become one of those paranoid weirdoes that used to walk around in her hometown. Giving one last glance to the still fighting pair, she went in the kitchen and grabbed a trash bag and prepared to clean up the mess the two of them had caused earlier.

After a few minutes of screaming and pulling hair, the two girls finally pulled away from each other to lay on their backs gasping for air as they laughed madly. Hinata sighed audibly causing the two girls to look at her. "I wish you guys didn't fight so much, now I've gotta buy a new table…"

Tenten's eye brows rose. "Your dad still doesn't have a job?"

Hinata shook her head as she picked up a piece of broken glass. "No, and you should probably look for a job too. Our savings is gonna run out faster now that you're living with us."

"I'd work if I were old enough, but child labor laws and all that junk." Hanabi said with a sigh. She picked up an apple off of the floor and bit into it with a loud crunch. "Sorry 'bout the table 'Nata. I'll do extra chores to make up for it."

Hinata just smiled at her sister before going back to cleaning.

"You know what, when we get done here, how about you come with me while I go job hunting?!" Tenten said as she started picking up broken pieces of wood and tossing them into a bag.

Hanabi snorted. "Where at? Nothing downtown is hiring and the mall is like a half hour away."

"I can ask Ino for a ride, she has a car." Hinata said as she pulled her cellphone out of her shorts pocket. She sent a quick text and received a reply almost seconds later. "She said its fine, she'll be here in an hour."

Hanabi tossed the apple into the bag and latched onto her sisters' arm, rubbing her face against her shoulder. "Oooo Can I go too? Please? I never get to go anywhere anymore!"

The eldest Hyuga smiled and rubbed her sister's head. "Sure, we can get some cinnabons while we're out too."

"Awesomesauce!"

"—That's why Sakura won't watch Orange is the New Black with me. Tch, prude." Ino sighed as she adjusted the various bags full of purchases hanging from her arm. "Which makes absolutely no sense, I mean she's going into the medical branch. She's gonna see more than a few tits in her life."

Hinata blushed brightly and pressed her fingers to her cheek in an attempt to cool them down. "O-oh…" She looked to her sister who was blushing just as brightly as her but somehow managed to maintain a look of complete and total apathy.

Tenten rolled her eyes and led the four of them to a table so she could fill out some applications. "Who is this Sakura person you guys keep talking about? Was she at that party?"

Ino placed her bags on the ground before sitting in the chair adjacent from Tenten. "The med student in our group. She's smart and thinks she's prettier than me—but she's not—and she's got like the biggest crush on Naruto's best friend. You'll probably meet her on Monday."

Hanabi frowned as she bit into her sweet treat. "I thought you and Sakura were best friends? Why do you talk about her like that?"

"We are." Ino said as she dug through her purse. "That's just how our friendship works, only we can talk bad about each other. No one else."

Hinata took a sip of her coffee as she sat down next to her best friend. "S-so why d-didn't she c-come with u-us today?"

The blonde peaked at the girl from the corner of her eye before she continued looking through her bag. "She said she had something to do…"

Hinata blinked for a second as she looked up toward the ceiling. "That…line sounds familiar somehow…as if I've said it before…"

Hanabi's eyes brightened as she looked over her sister's shoulder. "Oh look! There she goes now, and Kiba's with her too…but who are those other guys?"

The other three teenage girls turned to look at the group of people walking in their direction. Sakura was smiling up at the rude black haired guy she had to serve at the café while Kiba was talking at Neji who seemed to be ignoring the future Sleeper Agent. Tenten smiled and waved. "Hey Neji! I didn't know you were coming to the mall today!" The man smiled and started over toward them when Sakura grabbed the back of his shirt and whispered something to him before waving to the other guys and walking off.

The youngest Hyuga narrowed her eyes as she licked the icing from her lips. "I know she saw us, why did she just do that?!"

Tenten frowned at the pre-teen. "She probably didn't want to see your ugly face."

"Why you—She probably didn't want to meet you after seeing that monstrous arm of yours!"

Hinata turned to Ino with a small frown. "Did I do s-something to m-make her a-angry?"

She shook her head. "I honestly don't know."

Kiba leaned an arm on top of Hinata's head and looked around the table. "Hey, What brings you girls to the hottest mall in all of Konoha?"

Ino snorted. "You mean the only mall in Konoha?"

"Job hunting. Amazon needs a job to pay for the table she made dad break today." Hanabi said with a smirk.

Neji bent down and placed a kiss on Tenten's burning cheek before raising an eyebrow. "Amazon?"

His girlfriend looked down at the table with a blush. "It's a thing apparently."

"Awww, I never thought I'd see the day Neji was lovey dovey."

"Do you like those shoes Ino? If so, I suggest you shut your fucking mouth."

She stuck out her tongue while pushing her bags out of his range. "Touchy touchy…Anyway, why did Sakura leave?"

Kiba shrugged and pushed Hanabi out of her chair to sit down, ignoring her shout of outrage. "She said she had something to do."

"That line is seriously bugging me…" The eldest Hyuga whispered.

"I'll interrogate her later, she's being rude." Ino then turned to the dark haired guy standing off to the side. "Sasuke, this is Hinata, Hinata's little sister Hanabi and Hinata's best-

friend Tenten who also happens to be Neji's girlfriend. Ladies, this is Naruto's best-friend and Sakura's future hubby, Sasuke Uchiha."

The Uchiha glared at Ino. "You've written your will, right?"

"It's not finalized yet so if you kill me now you're not gettin' nothin'~!" She winked and crossed her leg over the other. "Patience is a virtue, dear."

Sasuke didn't say anything but a smirk appeared on his face before his eyes landed on Hinata. "Oh, if it isn't the Klutz. How's your lap doing?"

"I-i-i-…" Hinata blushed as all eyes turned to her and turned her gaze to her lap. "F-fine…"

"…hn…" He shoved his hands in his pockets and stepped closer to her. "You stutter…"

Hinata's blush darkened. "S-sorry..."

"Hey! Leave my sister alone chicken butt, she can't help it."

Sasuke's eyebrow rose at the childish insult and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't really like stuttering…"His head tilted to the side to get a better look at the blushing girls face. "But Naruto seems to have a fetish for it…" Sasuke bent at the waist so his face was a few inches from hers. He grinned as her blush darkened further and he briefly ran a finger over her cheek. "Your blush is adorable though…" He sighed as he straightened back up, "but I'm more into red-heads these days."

Ino scrunched up her face. "Ew, don't tell me you're screwing Tayuya."

"Nope. Karin."

Kiba sighed and scratched his head. "Somehow, I don't see that ending well at all."

"Naruto did always talk about you guys becoming family, it only makes sense." Neji said as he closed his eyes and nodded sagely.

"Why isn't Naruto here anyway?" Tenten asked. She rested her elbows on the table and placed her chin in the palm of her hand.

"Naruto can't leave the town. The mall is too far out for him, if he were to come he'd be arrested."

The brunette's eyes widened. "What?! That's outrageous! How can they do that?"

Neji shrugged and adjusted his army hat. "Government officials."

"Of course…There is a way for him to be able to roam freely…" Sasuke said as he ran his fingers through his spiky hair. "Tayuya and Karin just have to graduate with the highest honors and bring their family out of debt."

Hanabi looked toward the Uchiha, eyes wide. "So if Hinata were to fail, I could help her too? I could save her from being stuck in the town too?" The older teens grew quiet as they looked at the Hyuga sisters. "Don't worry Hinata, I can hold the family down just in case!"

Ino placed a hand on the girls shoulder. "Hanabi, if your sister fails….the consequences would be much harsher than they are on Naruto and his family…"

Hanabi looked to her older sister who looked away quickly. "What…what do you mean harsher?"

"Your sister and Tenten…will be forced to undergo experimental testing for the rest of their lives."

"B-but why?!"

Hinata looked up at her sister, her lips trembling. "It was the o-only way to s-save Tenten's l-life."

The bluenette watched as tears welled up in her sisters' eyes. "You'd…risk everything…I-i…y-you…" Hanabi bit her lip before running off into the moving crowds of people.

"Hanabi!" Hinata stood quickly and excused herself to chase after her sister.

It didn't take her long to find her sister who had absolutely no idea where she was going. They were in a new place and her sister subconsciously went to the place her sister had always told her to meet her should they ever get separated in a crowded place. The ladies room. Hinata slowed her breathing as she reached the entrance to the sitting area of the restrooms and glanced around quickly. There. Hanabi sat huddled in a corner, her legs pulled up to her chest and her forehead rested on her knees. Her shoulders shook from her silent crying and it broke Hinata's heart. Pressing her closed fist to her chest, she walked up to her sister, crouching down to be at her level.

"Hanabi, w-why are you c-crying?"

When the girl didn't answer, Hinata sighed and sat down next to her, crossing her legs and folding her hands in her lap. "I'm s-sorry…I didn't k-know what e-else to do…I didn't r-really have much of a c-choice. Your s-sister isn't r-really the brightest b-bulb in the b-bunch remember?" Her sister mumbled something into her legs in response and Hinata leaned in closer to hear her. "W-what?"

Lifting her head, Hanabi looked at her sister, her brown eyes rimmed with red and puffy from her tears. "W-why didn't you think about me? Do I mean a-anything at all? Why do you care more about Tenten than you do me? You'll put your entire future on the line for her but…but you forgot that I'm here…What about me?"

The elder sister's eyes widened in surprise. Is that what she thought? That she was choosing Tenten over her?

"Mama left…Now you want to leave me…Am I really that useless? Am I that unlovable? Am I really not worth anything—"

Hinata wrapped her sister in her arms and squeezed her tight. "—Hanabi! You are the most precious person to me! Don't ever think that you are useless! Mama didn't leave because she didn't love you, she loved you so much. I love you even more and daddy does too! Don't you ever think that you could be replaced!" Tears rolled down her cheek and she nuzzled her nose into her sisters' neck. It wasn't long until she felt her sister's hands wrap around her waist and hug her back.

"…Is she ever going to come back?"

Hinata's eyes lowered to the ground. She didn't know how to answer that, she didn't even know herself. She hated her mother for leaving them, for hurting her father so and for abandoning her and her sister. She didn't want her to come back but she missed her so much.

"Can…can you sing it for me? Just a little bit?"

Hinata smiled softly, pressing her lips to her sisters' cheek before nodding. "Sleep my child, do not be afraid for we are watching over you. Slumber in peace until tomorrow, sleep till the morning light. You are the future you are the promise, of a dawn that's fresh and new. You are the hope of all the world tonight..." She rubbed a hand over her sisters' head before turning her so she could look her eye to eye. "I'm…I'm going to graduate okay? I'm not going to leave you. I promise, and I never go back on my word." Hanabi nodded and the two of them went to stand up only to stop when army boots stepped into their line of sight.

"Where…did you learn that song?"

Hinata looked up into familiar gray eyes before looking away quickly. "I-it…Our m-mother used to s-sing it to us…"

Neji's hands clenched and he grunted before walking away quickly leaving the sisters stunned and staring after him.

It was almost midnight and she had school tomorrow but for some reason she couldn't sleep. Her life was changing and it was changing rapidly. She just wanted to be a normal teenager and deal with normal teenager things…She swung her feet over the edge of the bed, careful not to wake her bedmate, and stepped out to the hallway.

So many things just didn't add up, so many things had gone wrong…Why was it all happening to her? She didn't ask for any of this! She didn't want to live her life this way! Life or death, that's not the way a normal person was supposed to live. You shouldn't have to be forced to choose. Her chest tightened and her breathing quickened. Why was she and her sister chosen to be scholarship student? Why did her father have absolutely no problems with any of this? Why hadn't they run out of money yet, she was only working a waitresses salary! Her mind started to race…Didn't Kuranai act as if she knew her father? Hadn't Tsunade spoken with him with such familiarity?

Her world started to grow dark and she started hyperventilating. It was too much! She couldn't breathe; everything was too much. Arms wrapped around her and she lashed out punching out at the person but she was quickly restrained.

"Shhh, Hinata. Calm down, it's okay. Everything will be fine."

Tears sprang to her eyes and she turned in the arms that grabbed her before hugging the person with all her might. "Daddy…"
