Chapter 12 What's the plan now..
"Kagome, stay with Sango while Sesshoumaru and I bury Kagura. Then we will head back to the village and talk things over with Miroku about what to do now. Naraku may not have the Jewel piece anymore, but he is still very strong." Inuyasha placed a kiss to her forehead just as Sesshoumaru picked up Kaguras body and they headed out to the surrounding forest.
As the two Dog demons were away, Kagome decided was time to wake Sango and she how she's feeling after her scare. Soaking her towel, she rung it out and started to bath Sango's forehead in an attempt to get her to awaken. After a few minuets, Sango slowly opened her eyes to see a very worried Kagome leaning over her.
"Daijobu..." Kagome asked as she hugged her best friend when she sat up.
"Hai...I-I think so. My neck is a bit sore though...What happened Kagome? And where are Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha?" Taking a deep breath and letting it out, Kagome told Sango what had taken place after she had passed out. Then, when the story ended, Kagome held out in her hand the whole Shikon no Tama for Sango to see. Slightly gasping, Sango gingerly picked up the little pink glass ball and just held it in her own hand.
"You-you mean it's finally over...it's all over now.." Sango whispered. Kagome smiled a sad smile and shook her head no.
"We have the Jewel, but Naraku still lives. As soon as the guys finish, we are heading back to the village to re-group and decide what to do from there." Some noise drew the girl's attention to the right of them just as Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha came into view.
"It is good to see that no harm was done to you or your unborn pup, Exterminator." Said Sesshoumaru.
"It's Sango.. just call me Sango, Sesshoumaru." Sango said as Kagome helped her to her feet. She was a bit wobbly until Inuyasha scooped her up bridle style. Kneeling onto one knee, he told Kagome to get on his back.
"Very well then..Sango it is. Are we ready to head back?" At Inuyasha's nod, the two males took off in a run back to the village.
*** When Kagome had finished telling the story for the second time, she held out in her hand the Jewel for Miroku to see. Miroku drained his second cup of sake and poured another as the shock of what had happened to his wife still sunk in. After draining his third cup, Miroku then lifted Sango into his lap. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he nuzzled her neck.
"Then it is settled." Sesshoumaru stated as he stood up from his place on the floor. The others merely watched on. With his mind made up, he headed to the corner where his armor still sat. After carefully arranging it all into place, he continued speaking.
"It is no longer safe to remain here Inuyasha. I fear the longer we linger, the more dangerous it becomes for your village. I suggest that we take our leave now back to the palace before that vile creature arrives." Sesshoumaru then made his way outside to await the others. Kagome finished her tea and stood up as well. She walked over to her over-sized bag and pulled from it a nap-sack.
"You he's right Inuyasha. It's no longer safe to stay-" (WHAM)
Some chosen words then floated into the hut from where Sesshoumaru now laid on the ground outside. Inuyasha couldn't keep from laughing his ass off. To him, that was the most beautiful sound in the world. But, with a sharp glare from Kagome, he quickly controlled himself. Although, it threatened to spill out again when he saw his muddy brother walk back into the hut. After asking Miroku if he had a spare kimono, Sesshoumaru excused himself to change and get cleaned up.
"Gomen Sesshoumaru..." Kagome mumbled out as he passed her. He gave her a nod and entered one of the rooms. She then resumed packing the nap-sack with some supplies they would be in need of for the journey to the palace.
A few minuets later, Sesshomaru emerged from the room in a plain white kimono and proceeded to clean his armor and the finer kimono he was wearing. Once everything was clean to his liking again, he sat himself down in front of the fire and started to speak.
"The weather is obviously not good for travel. It would not bode well if your females traveled in such weather and contracted sickness. We now must wait till the marrow. We will then leave at first light. Agreed." The other members of the group nodded their heads. Miroku then excused himself and went into the room he and Sango shared to prepare their futon. It's been a very long day, and as soon as they eat their meal, he was heading to bed.
Just as Kagome and Sango were about to start making some supper, the hut flap opened a very soggy wet Shippou entered the warm hut.
"Oh my goodness Shippou!!! Where have you been? And in such weather too." Kagome rushed over to her big pack and after a moment she pulled out a pink fluffy towel. With in moments, Shippou was wrapped in the towel, and then placed in front of the fire to dry off and get warm. Once satisfied, Kagome went back to helping Sango with the stew they were preparing.
When Inuyasha noted that the two females were deep in whatever conversation they were having, he scooted over to where Shippou sat and whispered low enough for only demon hearing.
"So is it taken care of now pup?"
Shippou shook his head in attempt to dislodge some of the water in his ears. Then, looking out of the corner of his eyes he gave Inuyasha a small smirk of his own as he too, whispered low enough only for their hearing.
"Hai Inu-papa. Lynx even said that he would not only prepare the pelts, but also sew it into the blanket as well for all the help you did today. He said that when he finished taking count of all the meat for the winter, there will be enough for the entire village to have extra. He said that when the blanket is finished he would send word for you to come get it. Also our meat has been set aside and is ready. When the rain stops, we can go get it."
Inuyasha smiled proudly at Shippou for a job well done. Patting the Kit's head, Inuyasha cleared his throat. This caught Kagome's attention like he knew it would. She looked at him and her 'pup' as it were and smiled.
"Not to worry Inu-chan, supper is almost ready. Just make sure that Shippou dries out completely before bed." She then put her attention back at hand to the conversation with Sango and continued stirring the stew.
Seeshoumaru said nothing as Inuyasha and Shippou had their own little conversation. Instead, he closed his eyes and pictured in his minds eyes his beloved mate, Rin. It has been well over a week now since he left her and his unborn pup. Though he himself doesn't mind traveling, it's traveling alone now a days that he doesn't like. Her company is always missed on his away trips but, in a way, it makes coming home more enjoyable. And besides, traveling with a pregnant female is not save. Other demons out there would all too much enjoy preying on a pregnant female, especially the weak mortal ones who can't defend themselves. And the start of tomorrows journey will prove most difficult with two pregnant females to look out for.
***
When the meal ended and all tummies were full and content, Sesshoumaru got up from his place at the small table and went his corner where his now clean armor and kimono lay. Sitting down Indian style, he wrapped his tail around himself and closed his eyes.
Taking the hint, Inuyasha picked up Kagome and headed to their room with Shippou right behind him. Miroku slowly stood up and helped Sango to her feet. Taking her small hand in his, he led them to their room of a good nights sleep.
As the candlelight slowly distinguished in each of the windows of the hut, a solitary Misma left its perch and flew off back to its master.
