Chapter 11 – Please Be Okay

Saying that North and the others were mad that Jack and I had gone to see Jacobi was an understatement. We had gone straight to the Pole after our talk with him and North had immediately called the others. Bunny was incredibly cranky since I think we'd woken him up. When we told them where we'd been they all looked at us like we'd grown a third head.

"I cannot believe you two idiots!" Bunny said, clearly angry. "Jack, how could you let Anna go do that? Jacobi nearly killed her!"

"Hey! It was my idea in the first place!" Jack replied, gritting his teeth. "And I tried to stop her from going, but you know what she's like."

I waved my arms about in the air. "Um, excuse me! I'm right here you know!" I exclaimed. "And I'm fine Bunny. Nothing happened. The barrier held up."

"That's not the point!" Bunny grumbled. "You could have got hurt."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "Um. I could have been hurt too you know." Bunny ignored him and Jack clutched at his chest. "Wow Bunnymund. Your concern is touching. Really, I think my heart is going to explode with happiness."

"Cut the crap, Frost," Bunny practically growled, causing Jack to step back slightly in alarm.

I sighed and tugged at Bunny's arm to get his attention.

"Look Bunny. I'm fine, Jack's fine, everyone's fine. We needed to go talk to Jacobi to see if he knew anything about this curse. He didn't get out and nobody got hurt. Calm down."

Bunny took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Yeah, okay. Sorry. I just get worried."

I smiled and punched his arm. "I know you do, stupid."

He smirked and violently ruffled my hair which he knows I hate, making me squirm and run away, patting my hair down as I went. Tooth and Sandy laughed at our antics, but North still looked very serious.

"What is it North?" I asked.

North was frowning deeply. "You two have been very immature. You should have told us you were going to see Jacobi before you went. That being said, if you found out valuable information I cannot be too angry." He looked up at us. "So? Did you?"

Jack and I glanced at each other before looking back at North and nodding.

"We did," I replied. "We know how to break the curse."

"How?" North asked.

"Fawn, Oliver, Anna and me have to work together for a common goal," Jack answered. "Which is easier said than done considering Fawn and me can't be within 100 metres of each other without fighting. Same goes for Anna and Oliver."

Tooth frowned. "But didn't you four already do that?" she asked. "You all worked together to put up Jacobi's barrier, right?"

I shook my head. "We all took part in that but we didn't work together. We could feel the tension so I pulled Fawn away from Jack. Jack and Oliver cast their magic together and then Fawn and I did. All of us contributed but we didn't work together per say."

"So how exactly are you four gonna work for a common goal?" Bunny asked. "You lot probably couldn't agree that the earth spins around the sun."

I shrugged. "I have no idea. But we're going to have to."

Jack nodded in agreement. "We don't have a choice. We have to agree to do something, and soon. Or else stuff is just going to get worse."

It had nearly been a week since Jack and I had gone to talk to Jacobi, and Fawn and Oliver hadn't done anything in that time. I was on edge since I was guessed they'd try something soon, but I was trying to enjoy the peace as best I could.

Jack had been fairly busy. He'd tasked himself with trying to find Oliver to talk to him about how to get rid of this curse, knowing full well he'd probably end up running into Fawn too. I'd offered to go help but he'd refused, saying I needed to look after the robins. He'd said he wouldn't do anything but I wasn't so sure, so I'd asked Rudi and Dolly to keep an eye on him. At first they'd kept their distance and Jack hadn't known they were there, but a few days ago he'd caught them following him. He wasn't mad or anything, so he let them keep going around with them since three pairs of eyes could look for Oliver in more places than one.

They'd already tried Oliver's home in Ireland and they couldn't find him, so they were trying loads of different places all over the world, but the last time Jack had checked in – which was yesterday – they hadn't found him anywhere, and they hadn't seen Fawn either.

When Jack had said I had to look after the robins, he was right. This was the time of year that the chicks were taught how to help change the seasons. Normally Rudi and Dolly would help but since they were Jack-sitting Nibbles and Cheddar were helping instead.

The chicks were all jumping about in excitement, happy that they were finally going to be able to do the same magic as the older birds. To get them started I made a few small plants start to sprout in some plant pots I'd found in a dumpster and filled with soil (No I didn't go dumpster diving. They were right at the top of the dumpster and I'd washed them).

The chicks lined up to try and make the plants grow. All of the robins had the ability to do things like this right from the moment they were born, but they needed to learn how to use that ability. Heather was currently trying to make the plant grow but try as she might she couldn't do it. Her wings drooped in disappointment. Nibbles hopped over and nudged her so she looked up at him. He chirped encouragingly before showing Heather how to do it properly. Heather chirped back and hopped over to the next sprout and copied what Nibbles had done. Her plant didn't bloom as much as Nibble's had but it did grow a bit. She chirped happily and her friends all congratulated her. She turned to me, looking as proud as anything. I grinned.

"Well done you!" I cheered.

"Teaching the little ones?"

I looked round to see Tooth standing behind me smiling. I smiled back and stood up, brushing soil crumbs off of my dress.

"Yeah. We normally teach them at this time of year so they have plenty of time to perfect it before spring rolls round again," I explained.

Tooth looked down at Heather and smiled again. "Well that little one seemed to get it quickly!"

I nodded. "Yeah, that's Rudi's kid. She's a smart one! She can be cocky though, but she'll grow out of that."

Tooth laughed under her breath. "I still find it hard to believe you know them all by name. It's like how shepherds know all of their individual sheep!"

The robins weren't very happy about being compared to sheep, and they made that perfectly clear with their loud chirps of protest. Tooth grimaced.

"Sorry! I didn't mean to offend them," she apologised.

I grinned. "Don't worry about it," I said before turning to the bird. "Guys, take five while I talk to Tooth."

The birds all took advantage of the unexpected break and flew off in different directions in their little groups. Tooth and I sat down at the table, and her face had changed from happy to serious.

"Tooth? What's wrong?" I asked, worried about the look on her face.

"Nothing's wrong exactly," Tooth said. "There's just something I really need to talk about, but I'm not sure I should when you have so much other stuff going on. I don't want to distract you."

I smiled gently at her. "Tooth, it's fine. You can tell me if you have something you need to get off your chest."

Tooth shook her head. "No, you don't understand. It isn't like that. It's not something about me. It's about you."

I frowned. "What about me?"

"You're like Jack, aren't you? You don't remember stuff from before you were a spirit, right?" she asked.

I nodded. "Yeah, that's right."

Tooth was now biting her lip in nervousness. "Did Jack ever tell you about how Pitch stole all of the baby teeth from the Tooth Palace?" she asked.

I nodded again. "He stole them along with your fairies didn't he? Apart from Baby Tooth."

Tooth sighed under her breath, wringing her hands together nervously. "Well, me and the fairies only just got all the teeth back in order. It's taken us ages but everything's sorted again. And while we were fixing it all, I found something." She swallowed before raising her lilac eyes to meet my brown ones. "Anna, it's -"

Before she could say anything more, the ground next to the table suddenly caved in and Bunny leaped out of the tunnel.

"Anna! It's Jack. He's fighting with Fawn and Oliver near Oliver's home," he exclaimed, panting from apparently rushing here.

I stood up quickly, my chair clattering to the floor in the process.

"Why?" I practically screamed. "How come you didn't break them up?"

"Anna, they can fly. I can't. How am I meant to break them up?" I pointed out.

I shook my head violently. "Sorry, I'm not thinking straight."

At that moment Rudi and Dolly came swooping in from the entrance to the hideout, twittering loudly the exact same news that Bunny had just told me.

"I know guys, I know," I told them, trying to calm myself and them down. "You guys stay here. I need to go stop them." Rudi started to protest but I shook my head. "No arguments." I turned to Tooth. "Sorry, I have to go."

Tooth shook her head. "Don't worry about it. This is more important. We can talk later."

I nodded and opened my wings up, ready to leave. Bunny grabbed my arm before I could though, making me turn round to face him.

"Oliver looks out of control," he said. "So does Fawn. I know Oliver can't hurt you but Fawn can. Be careful."

I nodded. "I will. Thanks."

Bunny still looked worried but he let go of my arm. As soon as he did I sped out of the hideout, slalomed through the trees and headed northwest towards Ireland.

Jack had better be okay. Cause if he had started this fight then I was going to kill him.
