A\N: So for this chapter I tried a different style of writing that I hope you all like. Instead of writing the scene where Matt and Griffin talk I added it to the first scene as Griffin remembering it. So all of the memories that he remembers from the night before are in Italic. And all of the Spanish I got from Google Translate.

The Fight

Carla leaned her head against her locker as she watched Griffin talk to his friends across the hall.

"I've tried everything," She groaned, "Why hasn't he even noticed me!"

Samantha gave her a look as she brushed her hair, "Are you really asking me that question?"

Carla growled, "I told you it's not because of Freddie! Or because of my father."

"Well," She closed her locker and made sure it was locked, "I gave you my opinion."

"Ssh, he's coming," Carla hushed her as Freddie, Griffin and a few of their other friends made their way towards them.

"Hi Carla," Griffin waved as he passed her.

"Hi," Carla smiled in return.

"Yo, man let's go," Freddie urged Griffin, "I'm hungry."

Griffin though back to what he and Matt had talked about the previous night; Matt had told him that if he was sure he really liked Carla and wanted to ask her out then Freddie would see he wouldn't have anything to worry about."

"But Uncle Matt? He's my best friend. He's already threatened all of the guys in our grade; if they ask her out he'll beat them up."

"That's because he's her brother and he's doing what he thinks is best," His godfather had explained to him.

"I don't know what to do; Carla's so pretty and smart and really funny; and I really like her Uncle Matt but she's also become a really good friend and what if she doesn't like me; then it'll be awkward between us and I don't want that."

"I can't make that decision for you Griff; you have to decide on your own. But I want you to know that if you ask Carla out and then break her heart Freddie and Antonio will have every right to be mad at you. Human emotions are a delicate thing and it's not fair to anyone if you take advantage of them; do we have an understanding?"

"Yes Sir."

"Good."

"You go I- I want to talk to Carla."

Carla did all she could not to squeal as Griffin said those words; she had been hoping he'd ask her to the Christmas dance for weeks.

"What do you want to ask her?" Freddie gave him a death glare as he crossed his arms.

Carla stepped up to her brother and pushed him, "Go away Freddie!"

"I'm not going anywhere," He stepped in front of her, "You're not asking her out."

"FREDDIE!" Carla's entire face flushed red as a tomato and she hit him over the head with the palm of her hand, "Mind your own fucking business!"

"No! Nobody's asking you out!" Freddie pointed a finger at Griffin, "Now do you have anything to want to ask her."

"Did Antonio hate you when you started going out with Aunt Gabby?"

"He talked to me about it," Matt had told him.

"But you're still friends,"

"Yeah; But buddy its different; Antonio had a good ten years of threatening her boyfriends before he met me."

"But he still threatened you?"

"No but he did talk to me; look Griffin, Antonio and Gabby they're best friends and they're do anything to protect each other. And when Antonio first met me we were working together on a case and we became good friends. He said he wouldn't mind if Gabby dated and married a guy like me; in fact when we first met he thought I was Gabby's boyfriend.'

"Were you?"

"No I wasn't."

"I don't understand that."

"That's because its different Griffin; Carla and Freddie are twins, Gabby and Antonio are ten years apart. By the time Gabby was interested in boys Antonio was out of the house living on his own. Sure he made sure that he checked out every guy she ever dated but its different; he was older; they weren't his friends; he didn't hang out with them."

"So Freddie's upset because he's my friend and I want to date his sister?"

"Yeah something like that; look its going to happen you're all growing up and Carla will want to date Freddie's friends; it just so happens you're the first one and yeah its going to be tough but if you really like her and think she's special it'll be worth it."

"Can you talk to Antonio for me."

"Tell you what bud; we'll do it together."

"Okay."

"Yes I do," Griffin surprised everyone that had crowded around, "But I want to do it in private."

Freddie took a step forward and punched him in the nose, "Go to hell."

"Ah!" Griffin's nose hurt like hell and blood started pouring out.

"Freddie!" Carla began to cry, "Why did you have to do that?" She turned on her heel and ran as fast as she could into the nearest washroom.

"Way to go," Samantha glared at Freddie as se ran after her best friend.

"Why'd you it me?" Griffin held his nose as he stated at his friend.

"I told you, go to hell!" Freddie's fists clenched.

"No way," Griffins stood his ground.

Freddie ran to him and slammed him into the nearest locker.

"BOYS!" Mr. Goodman, the Vice Principal hollered as he charged down the hall, "In my office now!"

Gabby rocked a very unhappy Lucas in her arms as she tried to console him. He had been up since four o'clock in the morning and had hardy stopped crying since. She had read every book on parenting she had and so far nothing was working; she was just about at her wits end. Then her cell phone rang.

Moving Lucas onto her hip she picked up the phone and held it to her ear using her shoulder.

"Hello Mrs. Casey this is Ms. Williams of Lakeshore Elementary School. I'm calling to let you know that Griffin has been in a fight. He has a broken nose and he's pretty shook up; The principal would like you to come down to the school; he would like a meeting with you and the parents of the other boy involved."

"Right; of course I'll be there as soon as I can." She hung up the phone and called her sister in-law's cell but was discouraged when the line was busy.

"Oh please be home," She called her parent's home number very thankful when her mother picked up.

"Gabriela;" Her mother spoke and then heard Lucas's cries, "Oh dear; what's wrong?" Her voice was filled with worry."

"I don't know mom; but that's only one of my problems. The school called and Griffin was hurt in a fight; they want to talk to me; usually I'd bring the baby but he hasn't stopped crying and..."

"I'll be right over."

"Thanks Mom;"

"Anytime dear."

"Are you going to be good for Abuela?" Gabby bounced Lucas as the two month old continued to scream his lungs off.

"I know something's wrong," She looked at him, "But Mommy's done everything she can think of."

"Waa!" Lucas's screamed as he kicked his feet and flailed his arms about.

"Oh," Gabby felt tears fall down her cheeks as se held Lucas as tight as she could and kissed the back of his head, "What's wrong baby boy?"

Gabriela rushed into the main office of Lakeshore Elementary and skidded to a halt as she saw Jackie sitting, "Oh no…. don't tell me…"

"Gabby," Jackie seemed just as surprised to see her, "Why are you here? Do the boys have an appointment?"

"No; I have a pretty sneaky suspension we're here for the same reason," She took a deep breath and took the seat next to her sister in-law."

Down the hall they heard footsteps and saw Freddie, Griffin and Carla round the corner just in front of Mr. Kassab.

"Aunt Gabby," Griffin walked to her.

"Hey bud," She examined his nose, "What did the nurse say?"

"She wrapped it up as best she could and gave me some Tylenol for the pain and swelling but she thinks it's broken."

"And I agree; here you sit down here and I'll take you to the ER as soon as I finish talking to Mr. Kassab.

"We shouldn't be long," He assured her. "Just a few minutes."

"Freddie, did you hit Griffin?"

"He hit him because he wanted to ask me out Mom!" Carla rolled her eyes at her brother, "He's acting like an ass."

"Language," Jackie scolded.

"Mom! I don't want anybody dating my sister! Especially not a backstabbing ex friend!" He lunged forward at Griffin but Jackie held him back.

"That's enough Fredrick!" She held him at the shoulders, "When your father gets home tonight the three of us are going to have serious talk."

"Good, maybe Dad will see this my way."

"I highly doubt your father will approve of you starting a fight."

"Mom! I did it to protect Carla! Dad would do the same for Aunt Gabby!"

Gabriela had to fight back a response, as she knew that although her nephew was talking about her it still was not her place to comment on what her brother would or wouldn't do to protect her.

"You did what?" Antonio growled at his son after he had told about the incident involving his children at school.

"I did it to protect Carla," Freddie stated his case, "That's what brothers are supposed to do!"

"Now he won't even talk to me!" Carla ran out of the living room crying.

Antonio rubbed his temple; this kind of news was not what he liked to come home to after working a double shift.

"Sorry Hun." Jackie rubbed his shoulders, "You know I wouldn't have told you if it wasn't a pressing issue."

"Yeah I know babe," He gave her a quick kiss on the lips before she went out of the room to console Carla.

"Sit," Antonio ordered Freddie as he pointed to the empty spot on the couch beside him.

Freddie did what he was told.

"Now first of all let me make this very clear. I love my sister very much and I may have done some things in the past that at the time I thought were right but I had to learn that I can't control her life; as long as she's happy I'm happy."

"So when she dated guys you didn't like you just took it?"

"This isn't about me," Antonio warned, "And you have to understand that both you and Carla are growing up. Just like you're interested in girls she's interested in boys."

"I say we lock her up in a tower!"

Antonio chuckled, "No, bud; we both need to learn that she is going to date and you know what the more she's told she can't the more she'll want to; just like you."

"But Griffin's my friend."

"Yeah well that's what happened when you have a twin sister that's your own age."

"So you're not going to do anything about it?"

"Yes I am; I'm going to take you and Carla to Griffin's house so you can both talk to him."

"No!" Carla appeared in the entrance to the room, "I don't want to see him! He hates me!"

"Sweetie," Antonio took a few steps towards his daughter, "What your brother did was wrong and he shouldn't have done that."

"Like you wouldn't have done the same thing?"

"You don't talk to me like that!"

"But you don't want me to date either Dad!"

"Carla I know you're growing up and believe me as much as I don't want you to I know you're going to date; and as far as guys go I say Griffin's a good choice. I know his god-parents and I know he doesn't have a criminal record."

"So I can go to the dance with him?"

"Yes."

Carla ran up to her father and wrapped her arms around him, "Thank you Daddy!"

"You're welcome sweetheart."

"I'm going to go call Sami!"

"Hold up kiddo; don' you want to go and see Griffin."

"Not dressed like this! I'll be a few minutes," She ran up the stairs to change.

"Oh boy," Freddie rolled his eyes, "I'm gonna hate her for the next few years."

"Yeah I'll see you soon," Gabriela hung up her cell phone and placed it on the counter, "Hey Griff," She knocked on the boy's bedroom door, "I want to see you for a minute."

"Yeah Aunt Gabby," He poked his head out the door.

"That was Antonio on the phone. He's bringing Freddie over to apologize to you and Carla's coming too."

"Carla's coming?" His face changed colour.

"Yeah she is. I think she wants to talk to you too."

"I can't talk to her," Griffin began to close the door.

"Yes you can," Gabby took his hand, "I'll be right here with you."

Griffin groaned, "You will be?"

"Yeah Antonio wants me to stay."

"Why?"

"Because he doesn't like his littler girl dating boys," She squeezed his shoulders, "And he knows I'll keep him in line."

"That's great but what about Freddie?

"You just leave him to Antonio and me alright?"

"Yeah I guess."

"Good," Gabriela sat down on the couch beside him and waited until she heard a knock at the door.

"Hey Antonio," She smiled as she opened it, "Hey guys," She greeted her niece and nephew.

"Hey Aunt Gabby," Freddie responded first, "How's Griffin doing?"

"Why don't you ask him yourself?" She stepped aside, "Go on talk to him."

Freddie took off his shoes and coat and walked into the house; his ears suddenly filled with the sound of Lucas' cries.

"Did he cry all afternoon at Mom and Dad's too?" Antonio asked his younger sister as he shut the door.

"Yeah and I'm getting worried; he's barely eaten anything. I think if it doesn't get better by tomorrow I'll take him to the Children's hospital."

"What did his doctor say?"

"He said that sometimes babies cry like this when they're sleep patterns get changed or when they don't get enough sleep; but his schedule didn't change before this so I don't think its that."

"Let know if you need a break."

"Dad!" Carla groaned, "I don't want to listen to that all day and night!" She covered her ears, "How does he cry so loud when he's so little?"

"I don't know sweetheart," Gabriela answered honestly.

"So is-uh is Griffin's nose broken?" She wondered.

"Yeah sweetheart it is; But the good news is it'll heal in about threw weeks and it won't have any lasting impressions; that means his nose will heal and be just like it was before."

"That's good," She answered weakly.

"Hey Carla," Griffin stepped forward.

"Hi," She waves shyly.

"Why don't we all go upstairs? I'm sure Matt could use a break." Gabby made an excuse for everyone to leave the room.

"Right," Antonio reluctantly followed, as did Freddie.

"So?" Griffin played with his hands as he looked at Carla, "Do you- uh… want to go to the dance with me on Friday?"

"Yes," Carla stepped forward and in a spur of the moment kissed him on the lips.

"Wow," Was all Griffin managed to say, as their lips broke apart.

"Want a break?" Antonio asked his brother in-law as he walked into the nursery.

"I won't say no," Matt handed the infant to Antonio.

"Hey hombrecito. Mamá y papá y el tío Antonio quieren saber por qué estás tan molesto. ¿Por qué lloras?" Antonio lifted his nephew into his arms and was surprised to find that he stopped crying and locked eyes with him.

"Wow Dad what did you do?" Freddie asked amazed.

"I don't know buddy," Antonio rocked Lucas in his arms, "Does he have a soother?" Antonio didn't see a soother in the crib.

"Yeah; its downstairs, I'll go get it," Gabby walked out of the room.

"Waa!" Lucas began to cry again.

"Mamá estará de regreso. Ella sólo fue a buscar a su chupete."

Lucas reached for Antonio's finger and grabbed it and closes his fist around it as his eyes began to close.

"Dad," Carla rushed into the room, "Here's the soother. I told Aunt Gabby I'd give it to Lucas."

"Carefully sweetie; he's almost asleep."

Carla gently put the soother in her cousin's mouth and then kissed his forehead gently.

"Here," Antonio handed a now sleeping Lucas to Matt.

"Thanks Man, hey you sure you didn't know what you did."

"I think it was the Spanish," Gabriela walked into the room, "Now that I think about it the times he stopped crying today I was singing to him in Spanish; I never thought about it until now."

"Okay," Matt gently put Lucas into his crib, "I can learn some Spanish sentences."

"Lets start with words first," Gabby smiled as everybody walked out of the nursery, "Then I'll teach you some lullabies."
