CRASH
"And another one bites the dust!" I cried, having just swung a dummy into the wall of Akihiro's dojo. It had been three months since I began my training with Mr-I mean, sensei Akihiro, and, I've gotta say, he is an amazing teacher. Of course, it always helps to have two sets of ears in me. Yeah, Sym had been a great help. Anyway, in those three months, I had managed to nearly master ninjutsu, karate, and jujutsu. And, I'd really gotten a handle on my webs too!
"Do you really have to be so... you?" Sym sighed.
"Eh." I shrugged.
"Well done!" I heard Akihiro exclaim while making his way toward me, avoiding various broken targets as he went. "I forget... how many targets did I put up?"
"I'm gonna say... a hundred!" I boasted.
"It was thirty-five, genius." Sym said.
"I was... uh, estimating." I replied.
"Sure you were."
"I think that's enough practice for one day," Akihiro interjected. "Why don't you go along and-"
"Wait!" I quickly said.
"Hmm?"
"We finished the costume!" I proclaimed, causing Akihiro's face to light up.
"Excellent! Could I see it?" he asked.
"Of course you can." I told him. "It's over here in my bag." I walked over to the corner of the dojo where I had put the costume, after picking it up, I walked to the bathroom to change. Once I got changed, I decided to make an entrance. I jumped onto the ceiling and, after silently slipping through the door, began crawling until I was directly above Akihiro.
"What are you doing now?" I heard Sym whisper.
"Shh..." I mentally said. "Need to focus..." I then released some web onto the ceiling, and hung upside-down from, slowly releasing more of the purple webbing, allowing myself to be lowered to the ground. After managing to get just behind him, I slowly reached my hand out.
DING!DING!
"Mr. look out!" I heard a girl scream. Akihiro turned to look behind him, while I turned to the speaker.
"No way..." I muttered. It was Katie. She had apparently just walked through the door, and was staring wide-eyed at me.
"Do not fret child." Akihiro calmly said. "This man you see behind me, is in, fact my apprentice."
"A-a-apprentice?" She stammered.
"Yup!" I called. "That's me! Apprentice numero uno." I jumped down to the ground and began walking towards the girl. "You probably don't remember me," I said. "But we have already met."
"We have?" She asked.
"Yep. The reason you don't remember is it's been three months and my costume change." I gestured to the outfit I had on.
"A very nice costume, I must add." Akihiro said. Katie only now seemed to take an actual look at my new attire. The costume was made up of four things. The pants and shirt were both made of lycra fabric, all of it the color black. On the shirt though, was an emblem in the shape of a spider, the legs reaching to my shoulders and waist, the emblem also being purple. The boots being black too. Finally, I had modified the mask so that there was purple reflective glass covering the eyeholes.
"I remember now!" Katie exclaimed, her eyes widening. "What was your name...? Black Spider?"
"Close." I sighed. "It's Night Spider."
"Right!" She smacked the top of her head. "Well, it's great to see you again."
"Yeah, same to you Katie."
"You... actually remembered my name..." She blushed. Suddenly, I could hear the sound of police sirens in the distance.
"Huh..." I muttered. "I guess that's my cue."
"Are you sure that you are ready Spider?" Akihiro asked.
"As... ready as I'll ever be sensei." I told him while bowing. "Well, it was nice meeting you again Kate, but, I've gotta swing." I ran outside and shot a web out to the highest building. Once it connected, I took a tight hold of the line and after jumping as high as I could, began swinging.
"Are we ready?" Sym asked, a small amount of worry in her voice.
"No idea." I admitted. "Hey, who knows? We might get lucky about this."
"How so?"
"Well, this could be a very small crime, like a burglary, or something." I explained. Right as I said that however, I saw an explosion go off in the direction I was going, a trail of smoke rising upwards. "Or, it could be that..." I sighed. "I need to get there fast..." I muttered. "I wonder how-oh... because, that's not a bad sign..." I was referring to the trail of smoke, as it had begun moving towards the right. Suddenly, another explosion went off, then the smoke seemed to be going towards me. I sighed as I shot out another line. After a moment of swinging, I finally reached the source of the smoke, which, obviously was a large amount of fire.
The inferno was centered at the center of the street. Civilians were running, ambulances and firetrucks were scattered around the street, constantly needing to drive further away from the moving flames. As I swung down the street, I saw an old man hobbling up the street, the fire quickly catching up with him. I swung past him, then quickly turned around, swinging real low to the ground. I caught him right as a car behind us exploded, causing my swing to go much faster.
"AAAGH!" the old guy screamed. I just sighed as I let go of my web, land next to an ambulance. A paramedic with her hair done in a ponytail. Suddenly ran to the back, pulling out a gurney., terror spreading across her face when she saw me.
"W...w...who are you...?" she mumbled, taking the old man from my arms.
"I'm Night Spider." I stated, helping the old man onto the gurney. "I'm here to help." I explained, offering my hand. She hesitated, but took my hand and shook.
"Tracy..." she said. "Tracy Hatfield. If you're here to help, then do so. Go!"
"You got it!" I mock saluted. I fired out a web line and swung back towards the fire. I wasn't too worried for a bit after that, thinking that all I'd have to do was keep civilians from getting hurt, until I heard the yells coming from inside the fire.
"First day on the job..." I muttered. "And we get to go inside a moving inferno... fantastic..." I released another web mid-air, so that I would swing straight through the fire. "This will be pain." I grumbled just before I entered the flames. As you can imagine, it was extremely painful. So, I'm going to omit all the screaming I did. About half-way through, the yelling got very loud, and I saw the shape of a person a little ways to my left. I quickly aimed and shot a line out, and once it connected, I yanked hard, pulling the figure as I swung out of the flames. The moment both I and the person were out of the fire, I accidentally let go of my webs and fell to the ground.
THUD!
"DAMMIT!" I heard the apparent male yell. I struggled to get back up, I could still feel the intense heat all over.
"Where's that healing..." I mentally groaned.
"Working on it!" Sym said. Slowly, the pain began fading away. As I stood up, I realized that the man I had just saved, appeared to still be on fire. I quickly ran over and attempted to use my webs to put the flames out. Suddenly, the man jumped to his feet and turned to stare at me. The flames still on him.
"W-w-who are you!" He yelled, raising his arms to protect himself.
"I'm the good guy, sir." I quickly stated, inching towards him. "Now hold still while I put out that fire." As I fired a few webs at him, he screamed.
"I'm not ON, fire you idiot!" He screamed. "I AM THE FIRE!"
Hey everyone, author here, speaking to you guys and gals, because I needed your opinion about something. So please, leave a review, saying if you think I should or not.
Also, I would like to thank Purple Guy for leaving a review. It really made my day when I read it. And please, if anyone wants to leave a review, then please do. I'm always open to constructive criticism, as well as any positive comments, of course.
