I'm so so so so (continues on to infinity) sorry that this chapter has taken such a goddamn long time. But I am here like I promised determined to finish this story! These last few months (like 10 so almost a year? jesus.) have been really rough and I just never seemed to have the time nor motivation to work on this project. I have been a bit depressed but going to a new school has really helped. Your reviews and favorites have kept me coming back to this website so it's really you guys that have brought this story back. Thank you so much!
The cages seemed to disintegrate a few short seconds after Danny had taken notice of them. The bee-like creature was the first to react, floating away from the other animals with a loud buzzing sound which compared to the sound of a weed whacker. Orange venom cascaded down its fangs and dripped onto the ground below. The grass it landed on turned an ashen color before shriveling up and collapsing. Danny took a step back in response instinctively but it seemed that the bee was more distracted with its surroundings than targeting Danny. His gaze fixated on the other ghosts. However two of them seemed to be missing. To his left the baboons were screeching to each other and beating their fists on the ghost shield. The energy waved out from their hits and the shield began to resemble a lake in the rain. Last of all the third ghost seemed to not even be awake. Its large eye was closed and a low rumble emanated from it.
Danny dropped his defense stance all together and just glanced around at the ghosts. Was Skulker really expecting an epic battle to take place? A small mischievous glint lit up his eyes and a smirk curled onto his lips. Who was he to not give critiques on Skulker's brilliant idea. Placing his hands on his hips he called out,
"Hey! Buckethead! How's the latest scheme coming along?" Danny paused glancing around the crowd. "Because I think it's going along just great! Look at all the excitement going on!"
The ghosts in the crowd seemed to agree as they turned to one another and murmured questions rose up from the crowd. Slowly an exodus began to take place as ghosts left one by one then soon in groups. Before many could leave, an ear-piercing whine sounded out and Danny clasped his ears in hopes of blocking it out. The other animals as well took notice and ceased to grip their ears as well but the blob just sort of vibrated and cried out in a low tone. It was like a hundred nails being scratched across chalkboard and then pitched a little higher. The sound was deafening in Danny's ears and he realized the reason for that was because the sound was coming from him. Or more specifically, his collar.
Angry animal faces stared at him and they snarled at him also locating the source of the noise. Danny gritted his teeth trying to get into a defensive stance but he could not remove his hands from his ears. The awful sound seemed to be contained within the shield for the crowd seemed undisturbed as they once again grouped around the dome. Falling to his knees Danny screamed which seemed like music compared to the sound. The animals all swung their bodies towards the noise and the ones that could bared their fangs at their "attacker". Danny's eyes were screwed shut so he was oblivious to the animals clawing their way towards him. He heard a growl to his right and opened one of his eyes to see what was going on.
"oh…great," Danny muttered under his breath attempting to get back on his feet.
The two baboon creatures were the first to attack, one charging straight toward him while the other ran to go behind Danny. The one charging straight forward was going at full speed and five feet away from Danny launched itself into the air with fists raised. Danny quickly raised his right hand to shoot a small ice beam and dove out of the way. His hand went immediately back to his head noticed the warm liquid dripping down his jaw from his ear. Before he could fully comprehend that thought a heavy speeding object launched itself into Danny's back knocking him to the ground. The shrieking creature viciously pounded its fists onto Danny's arms and back. He howled in response feeling one of his arms snap under the force. The broken arm fell limply from his head and a broken scream emerged from his throat. The pain from his arm and the noise was almost too much and in a desperate last attempt Danny swung his other arm as hard as he could at the creature, making contact at its neck.
A crack was heard as the creature was flung off his back and its body slumped to the floor a few feet away. Immediately after, the noise ceased and Danny sighed in relief. But the quiet did not last long for another cry which seemed to emanate from the very pits of hell sounded. Danny rotated his around to see that the other baboon creature leaning over its companion pushing its shoulder slightly. After its cry its gaze stared straight back at Danny and its mouth morphed back into a snarl. Danny shifted into a sitting position to try to stand without the use of his limp arm. The creature stalked forward saliva dripping from its fangs and then suddenly broke into a run. Danny watched in a daze almost as if he was having an out of body experience. When the creature leaped at him he raised his left arm and shot another small ice beam straight down the monsters throat. The body kept moving though and landed on top of Danny and his arm. He screamed in pain before quickly shoving the corpse off of his arm.
Standing up once again Danny tried to survey the surrounding area before the noise from his collar returned with full force. However there was not much he could do so he just cringed in agony. Now the bee creature had turned its attention to Danny buzzing in a loud toe which seemed to convey it's anger. Instead of approaching any closer it swung its body backward then forward in a quick snap motion to fling a black projectile from its end. The pointy object headed straight for Danny's leg and he could not avoid it so it pierced his right thigh. Danny quickly shook his leg disengaging the projectile but the venom seemed to work quickly and a dull throbbing took its place. The bee floated around seeming to be looking for another place on Danny's body to target.
Danny's eyes no longer seemed to have a pupil and instead had become a full toxic green color. Without any expression Danny lifted the black object and proceeded to incase the entire thing in ice. Then without flinching Danny lifted his hand and swung his arm as hard as he could at the creature. The projectile flew fast and true and pierced the very center of the bee and flung the creature into the shield piercing it there. Callously Danny paid the creature's dying screams no attention as he focused his gaze on the purple blob. He stalked towards it fashioning an ice pick in his hand. A foot away he raised his hand above the cowering creature intent on delivering the final blow.
Danny.
A voice seemed to whisper. Danny paused in his assault before gazing around confusedly. He could have sworn he had just heard Jazz's voice.
Danny! Another voice called.
He spun to his left, positive he had just heard Sam's voice there.
Come on dude! We're right here!
Danny now had his back to the creature so that he could see if now Tucker was behind him. His eyes were slowly beginning to revert back to having pupils as his confusion took over in place of his ear and pain. To his surprise, there was no one around him. Then where did those voices come from?
How could you? The voice of Sam screamed. These ghosts were only acting out of defense!
Danny stumbled over his words, "I was just… they…"
Yeah. How could you Danny! Would you hurt even us? The voice of Tucker said.
"No! I…"
Face it Danny, you are no hero. In fact you're becoming more like your evil self. Jazz stated in a cold voice.
Danny's face paled and his eyes teared up, fearful of what he was doing and starting to hyperventilate over his panic of becoming what he despised. Their words distracted him and now he no longer felt attached to his body. The purple blob slowly approached the boy from behind continuously feeding Danny's mind with the harsh voices of his loved ones. Reaching Danny it pressed on him slowly beginning to envelope his body as Danny did nothing to prevent it. Danny was preoccupied with the tears blocking his vision releasing the floodgate of suppressed terror and anguish he tried to mask. He was done. His body had given up, his mind had seemingly given up, and now he was about to be swallowed whole by some random ghost. Danny's head tilted to the crowd trying to escape the barrage of accusations in his head. The crowd for the most part seemed to be waiting with bated breath, however one individual seemed particularly interested and tense as if they were about to intervene. Red eyes and pointed black hair stood out from the crowd and it took a second to process that that was…
CRASH!
The ghost shield shattered in pieces all around him and the distraction proved to be helpful because it sidetracked the purple monster from continuing its assault and it backed away from its victim. A white hovercraft floated down into the clearing with neon green lines painted over the ship.
"Get away from my son you putrid ghost!"
Aaannddd, that's it. Nope this is not the ending, but close! Next chapter should be the final chapter which I hope to work on soon but seeing how long this took me it may be a while. If you've stuck around this long I thank you so so much for putting up with my awful schedule and everything. I love you guys all so much!
