Chapter Eleven
Cloud didn't know how long he stayed by his friend`s dead body.
It was so surreal that Zack had died. The man was his oldest and best friend in all the time he had been at SOLDIER and to have him gone like that…just didn't seem real to him. The young man can feel the rain falling down from the sky as she was completely soaked through the bone.
He knew that SHINRA will be here soon enough to come after him and that he needed to get out of her but…
He just couldn`t leave like Zack like that…just lying there in the rain…he just couldn`t…
Then a sound reached his ears…a sound he knew all too well.
The sounds of helicopters and they were still a few miles out from where she was. The young man slowly dropped Zack`s body on the ground. The young man took hold of the Buster Sword that Zack used all the time. He looked at the blade seeing the rain falling down and water dripping down from the side.
The young man slowly stood up, his resolve and hatred toward SHINRA growing each passing seconds. He couldn`t believe that the company he had worked for had been so like this. Now…all of these secrets that SHINRA was hiding from him…those secrets that cost Zack his life…
Nibelheim, he thought, It all leads there…and I will find the secrets as to why he was killed.
The blond turned toward his friend who was lying on the ground, unmoving.
"Don't worry Zack," he said softly, "I will make sure that SHINRA pay for this."
The young man pulled out the phone he had and dialed a number as he walked toward the bike he had. The Buster Sword was strapped to his back as he walked and then sure enough, a voice answered him.
"This is Rufus Shinra,"
"Hello President," Cloud spoke out.
The man was silent at the other end of the line.
"…Cloud?"
"Surprised that I am still alive after you order your Turks to kill me and Zack?" Cloud growled.
The man at the other end of the line stayed quiet.
"Don't bother trying to trace the call," Cloud told him, "But there is something I want you to know. My best friend is dead because of you and when I find out the reason why this happen, I will burn your entire company down unto the ground."
The young man snapped the phone close and threw it down on the ground. The man made his way toward his motorcycle and took off, leaving Zack dead body along with the dead forms of the many Infantries soldiers…
Tifa was standing in front of a window, observing the rain that was falling. The young woman was still a little miffed about what Aerith`s mystery. She had felt something off about Aerith ever since the girl told her she had bodyguards keeping an eye upon her.
Aerith had promised her that she would explain everything to her and it had been a few hours since then. She could hear the girl moving in the other room as well as the two DISSIDIA agents that were taking turn guarding the entrance as well as the surrounding areas.
The next hours as the rain continued to fall continued like that until a car pulled up in front of the entrance. It was an old truck from the look of it and a man was stepping out with a sack upon his back. Tifa walked out of the room and joined the rest of the guys downstairs.
"A car just pulled up," she said.
"It`s him," Squall told her, "The man we were waiting for."
"Who is he?"
"They called him Cid," Squall answered, "I`ve heard quite a lot about him…"
"Yes the Legend Cid, a former member of the AVALANCHE squad," Lagune spoke out, a light laughter in his voice, "From what I`ve heard of him, his attitude leaves a lot to be desired."
"Charming," Tifa sighed.
The door opened and the man walked into the room. He was dressed in jeans with a jacket upon his body wet from the rain falling outside. He was bearded too, his blond hair falling around his head and his eyes and he took in the group in front of him. The man let out a sigh.
"Did Cosmos send you?" he asked.
"The Director doesn`t have anything to do with this Cid," Lagune spoke out.
The man glanced at him.
"Lagune?" he repeated, "Didn`t expect to see your ass back here in Midgar."
"Well, miracles happen all the time," Lagune told him.
Cid let out a snort.
"Don't I know it," he said walking into the room giving Tifa and Aerith a passing glance as he walked into the room, "Recruiting kind of young don't you think?"
"They`re not agents," Squall answered.
Cid placed his backpack upon the ground of the room and glanced back at him.
"Then why did you track me down?" he asked, "I`m retired from all that bullshit that Winchester and Cosmos opened all those years ago."
"We didn`t track you down for that Cid," Lagune told him, "We need transport to Nibel and we rather do it under the radar of SHINRA. You`re the only one who has an airship that can do that for us…"
"No am I not," Cid interrupted him, staring at the man with a frown upon his face, "There is someone else who can do it. The fucking company who you work."
Lagune sighed.
"It will take too long," he told him, "We have Templates moving about here and they…"
Cid seems to freeze.
"What did you say?"
"Templates," Lagune repeated, "Three of them."
"Here in Midgar?" he said looking toward the long haired man across him.
Lagune nodded. Tifa frowned at the two men in front of her. It would seems these people were aware of what Kadaj and the rest where really but she still wasn`t sure how they were aware of it.
"JENOVA`s Children," Cid whispered shaking his head, "I suppose they are the ones that were responsible for that Summon appearance in the middle of town today?"
"How did you…?" Squall asked.
"I may be retired kid but my training stay with me," Cid snapped at him.
"What is JENOVA?" Tifa asked.
Cid gave her a glance, and from beside Tifa, Aerith closed her eyes as if she was fighting some horrible memories away from herself. The man walked toward her until he was standing right in front of her.
"Something SHINRA found about a good century ago or more," the man told her, "They used the Facility they had in Nibelheim to study it and conduct their experiments."
Tifa frowned.
"A facility in Nibelheim…?" she repeated.
"Cid," Lagune warned.
The man turned his glance at him.
"Fine," he said, "I`ll help you get to Nibel but after this, tell Cosmos I don't own her any more favors."
"I`ll be sure to pass on the message," Lagune answered.
Cid sighed.
"Then let`s get out of here," he said, "If they are Templates after you, then it`s best not to stay in one place for too long."
The group agreed and Squall along with Aerith made their way out of the door and into the rain and Tifa was the last to step out before Lagune and then she heard a noise behind her. The girl glanced back noticing that Cid was holding Lagune`s arm.
"Be straight with me," the man said, "Why are Templates attacking you of all people? You and I both know they don't attack people unless they want something."
Lagune stayed silent for a few seconds.
"That girl I am protecting," the man said, "She is Ilfana`s daughter."
Cid stayed quiet for a long time.
"Really?" the man said, "I didn`t realize she had grown this much…what about the other?"
"It`s more complicated than that," Lagune told him.
"As if it`s more complicated than protecting a Cetra," Cid told him releasing his arm.
Tifa frowned.
Cetra? She though.
The girl focused upon the two in front of them. She approached the two in front of her and placed a hand upon Aerith`s shoulder drawing the girl`s attention toward her.
"Now will you tell me why Kadaj want you dead?" she asked.
Aerith let out a soft sigh.
"We`ll talk upon the Airship," she said, "I have to gather my thoughts and tell you the entire story."
Tifa stared at her for a few full seconds.
"SHINRA never had a factory in the Nibelheim area," she said turning toward the two men, "All they had there was an old Mansion built for it`s President at the time."
Cid glanced at her.
"That`s what they want to world to believe girl," he told her, "That Mansion was only a cover…a cover to hide one of their labs."
Tifa fronwed remembering that silver haired figure she had seen that day.
"Tell me, I want to know everything about those secret labs of theirs that caused the destruction of Nibelheim," she said.
"And why would I do that?" Cid told her.
"That`s because I was born in Nibelheim," she said glaring at the man, "I was there, when my entire village was burned to the ground. I deserve to know why they killed my entire family."
