Zane's POV
I couldn't sleep at all after that, I kept waking up so many times in the middle of the night that I decided not to bother even trying at 5:15 A.M.
I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened yesterday, Sarah almost learning who she was. And then finding out that Sarah might've already had a boyfriend…
I threw a stone from the bounty into the water. What is this feeling? Is this jealousy? Could I be jealous of Joe? I mean, look at him; he has green hair, green! No, nindroids aren't supposed to feel things that humans do. But Sarah, she's like no other girl that I've ever met, she's the light to my dark, if that makes any sense.
I walked outside and onto the bounty. My falcon approached me with ease and landed on my arm perfectly. It cawed. "Hello my friend," I greeted him. He was my fathers' creation and now he is my only family that I have. He was also the one who led me into the forest that day when I found Sarah on the ground, unconscious.
I let him fly off after I petted him softly and watched him fly into the night. "Zane?"
I looked behind me and saw it was Sarah. "Hey Sarah, what are you doing up so early?" I asked.
She hesitated before she answered. "I had a nightmare. How about you?"
"I couldn't sleep," I replied.
"May I sit next to you?" she asked.
"Sure," I said. She took a seat next to me and looked at the sea. "The stars are out tonight," I said, looking up at the stars.
She looked up at the stars too. "Yeah, not so cloudy tonight huh?"
"Yeah." She stared up for a few more seconds. Then I asked her, "Do you want to tell me what the dream was about?"
"Um, sure, I guess. So in the dream, I saw myself in a different dimension. Light green grass covered the ground and it was fairly warm. Then I started to see scenes from, I guess, the past in Megosel. I saw myself and Joe and even Trusty in most of the scenes. And now I think I do remember Joe, just a little I think."
I knew she was holding something back, but I didn't bother her to tell me. "Yeah, dreams can sometimes tell of the past, or even tell you the future, like mine sometimes do because of my sixth sense, supposedly."
"Yeah." She paused. "Hey, guess what I could do."
I looked at her. "What?"
"Do you trust me?" she asked.
"Yeah, you're the most trustworthy person I know around here," I said.
She held out her hand. "Hold on and don't let go," she said.
So I followed instructions and she started pulling me towards the edge of the bounty. What is she doing? I thought. Then she pulled me and herself over the boat and we started falling.
I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the impact of the water. "Um, Zane? Why are you closing your eyes?"
I opened my eyes and realized we weren't falling; we were floating in midair. She could fly? "How is this even possible?" I asked, still hanging onto her hand, not wanting to let go any time soon.
She pointed to one part of her hair that was light blue and had a symbol of a wing. "I got trained for this to, isn't that awesome?"
"Yeah, it is," I replied.
She started to fly towards the sky, all the way until we were above the misty clouds that were barely visible. Above us we saw a ring of colors that extended up into the sky called Aurora borealis lights.
As we flew into the night, I looked at Sarah and found that she was smiling brightly. It was as if none of yesterday ever happened, like it was all just a dream. We flew into the Forest of Tranquility and we stopped, right on the spot where I saw Sarah for the first time.
"Imagine," Sarah said, "a few months ago we stood on this very spot and introduced ourselves for the first time. It seems like it was only yesterday we met for the first time."
"Yeah," I said. I thought about asking about Joe and her, but would that upset her? "Um, is it ok if I asked about yesterday?"
She messed with her hair before she answered. "Yeah, I guess its ok."
"Is it true about you and Joe?" I asked.
"I… I don't know. In my dream, it had me and him kissing, but I'm not sure. I'm still confused about this. I mean, what if they do know me? Does this mean I'm done here in Ninjago for good?"
"Well, remember, you have to finish the quest before you can go," I reminded her.
She looked down. "About that, what if I'm not able to complete the quest?"
"You will be able to, that's why you were chosen in the first place."
"Yeah but, when I complete the quest and remember who I am, won't that mean that I will have to leave you all?"
I remembered that's what it did say, but not all things could be fair. "Yes."
She sat down by a tree stump. "But Zane, I… I don't want to go."
That was the first time I ever heard her admit that. She never did say whether she did want to stay or not, but now she was. "Why don't you want to go?"
"Well, I don't want to leave you all behind. I like it here."
"But wouldn't you want to be where people of your kind dwell in?"
"Yes, but…"
"But what?"
"But…" She groaned and collapsed on the ground.
"Sarah?" I asked worriedly, going to her side. I saw that her hand was touching something that looked like a dark liquid. Wait, it can't be. That stuff was wiped away from Ninjago's surface years ago. I looked at it more closely just to make sure my eyes didn't deceive me, but it was true. This was Dark Matter. It can turn anything pure into total darkness. "Falcon!" I yelled and a few seconds later he showed up. "I need you to get the others, and hurry!" My falcon took off again into the starry night.
I looked at Sarah. Her body was changing alright, but very slowly. That must be one of the advantages in her world I thought. Perfect, more time to get help. Her hair was glowing brightly, as if using all its power to keep her from going dark immediately.
I heard something from above and found the bounty was hovering over us. I grabbed Sarah by the waist and climbed the dropped anchor quickly, hoping there was a way to help her.
