Two eleven year old girls kneeled on either side of their mother's bed, each holding one of her frail hands in their own. Their ebony hair just barely grazed their thighs as they shifted their weight at the same time, their identical pale blue eyes blinking worriedly at the woman coughing in the hay bed.
"Mother?" they asked at the same time, their identical voices blending beautifully. "Are you alright?"
The woman coughed again, smiling weakly at her daughters. "You're smart girls… I'm sure you can…figure that question out…by yourselves…"
"Please don't leave us, Mother," they spoke again, their voices strangely blank, but their eyes betraying them. "We'll miss you."
"I'll…miss you, too… You…You need to remember something…"
"What?"
"Your…thirteenth birthday…will change you…forever…"
"What do you mean, mother?"
The sound of heavy footfalls echoed throughout the room as the woman's eyes closed and her breathing stopped before she could answer the question. A man stepped into the room, his eyes displaying shock before turning into pure fury. The man rushed at the two girls grabbing their arms and forcing them to stand.
"You…" he growled. "You demon children… You killed her! You killed Atoma!"
"We didn't kill her," the girls spoke. "She was sick. You know that."
"You. Made. Her. Sick. You're evil…" the man ground out.
The two girls tilted their heads the same way. "How are we evil, Father?"
Their father let go of their arms to slap them both, letting them fall to the ground. "You're not my daughters… You're the spawn of the devil…"
And with that, the man walked over to the girls' mother, picking up her body and carrying it out of the small house. The two girls sat on the floor in shock. Their father had yelled at them before, sure, but he had never, ever hit them. The older of the two girls crawled over to the other, holding her close and letting her cry. She stroked her sister's hair while whispering words of reassurance.
"It's alright, Caoilainn… He didn't mean it, he was just grieving… Everything will be okay in the morning…"
The younger girl –Caoilainn– gripped her sister's plain black dress that was identical to her own. "Don't lie to me, Laisrén… I hate it when you lie…"
"I'm sorry… I'll never lie again unless I really need to… but never to you…"
"Thank you, sister…"
"Something's not right."
The Lost Boys all turned around to look at Zavier, who kept rubbing his eyes with his fingertips and touching his arms.
"What do you mean?" Ryne asked.
"I just keep feeling like something's covering my eyes and restricting my arms, but nothing is and-argh!" he shouted, rubbing his eyes more profusely. "It's freaking annoying!"
"I'm sure there's just a hair across your face or something that you can't find," Vincent reasoned. "And there's probably a thread in your shirt that got pulled by mistake and tightened."
"But there isn't! I-Zander..."
"What about 'im?" Hamish asked.
"I can't really explain, but something's wrong; I don't think he made it back to camp. I have to go back," he said, already turning to leave.
Everyone looked at Pan, who just nodded and waved the boy off. "Felix? Do go with him; I don't want him getting lost too. Heh… No pun intended, of course."
Felix nodded, walking off after the younger boy. "So, what exactly do you think is wrong again?"
Zavier shook his head, quickening his pace. "I don't know. Something's just…off."
Felix decided not to say anything more on the matter, and in a few minutes, they were back at the camp. Zavier ran over to Fyre immediately.
"Did my brother come back here?!" he asked franticly.
"Uh, no… Why?"
"I felt like I was tied up or something, but I wasn't, so since Zander's not here, I'm guessing he got kidnapped by someone…"
"Zander got tied up?" Fyre asked the pacing boy, before her lips split into a grin. "Ooh, bondage. Kinky."
Zavier looked her in the eyes with one hell of a 'What the crap?' look on his face. He growled in frustration, breaking into a sprint, and running in the first direction instinct told him to go in. He ran for a little while, until he caught something out of the side of his eye that he almost missed. Footprints in the snow. A lot of footprints in the snow. He probably would have run straight past them if a raven hadn't been cawing on the branch of the tree they were in front of… Huh… Oh well. Most of the snow on the island had been melted by Fyre occasionally pulsing heat throughout the ground to make sure that Neverland didn't get buried in snow, but there was still a light layer of it since the Lost Girl seemed to have forgotten to melt it. She hadn't been using her power for the past two days actually… Fyre said that she couldn't even use her earthen powers anymore… Zavier wondered why briefly, until he realized that his thoughts were drifting. He shook his head lightly and started walking in the direction the footprints were going. Or at least, he tried. Zavier walked all of three steps before he tripped on a rock covered by the snow. He shot a hand out to break his fall, but the ground was suddenly soft when he fell on it. It kind of resembled falling on a bed. When his hand touched the snow-covered mosaic dirt, the snow cleared as soft grass surrounded where he was lying. What the…? Zavier shook his head, getting up and sprinting in the direction the footprints were going. He didn't have time to think about what had just happened and the footprints were getting more and more covered by the falling snow every second he wasted. Finally, the imprints in the snow stopped and Zavier found himself hiding behind a tree when he heard voices in front of him.
"So, what's the best way into the camp without being seen?" a strong sounding woman asked.
"Well... I really don't know… But, if I had to guess from my experience, I'd say coming into the camp when it's dark and all of us are asleep."
Zander?! Why was he telling people how to get into the camp?! Zavier peeked around the tree not even a second just to see who he was dealing with, and saw a group of people. They looked like… Henry's family from how the boy spoke of them. Why was Zander telling them how to get into the camp?
"We tried that," a woman who was probably the evil queen said. "Henry wasn't there and I'm almost positive that Pan was hiding in the trees…"
"Hm… Actually, the Lost Boys and Pan are on a hunting trip right now. Henry's just sitting at the camp with someone guarding him. The person guarding him isn't really trained with using a sword, so you should have no problem just going in and finding him."
Why was he…? Wait. Fyre was guarding Henry and her specialty was fire and daggers, not swords… Heh… That little trickster…
"Oh… Really?" a woman that sounded like Henry's mother said.
Zavier was pretty sure that his brother nodded. "Yeah."
The older twin heard the group start to get up and walk his way, which left him gripping his sword out of reflex.
"Alright then," a British man spoke. "Let's go."
Zavier felt his body stiffen as Henry's family walked up to the tree he was behind and…walked right past it. What the…? He noticed Zander (Whose wrists were tied together with a rope held by a woman with a pixie-cut) start to walk past him, stop, face his brother and widen his eyes, then shake his head and keep walking. Why couldn't anyone see him?! More importantly, why was his blind brother the only one who could see him?! And on another note…
Why were Zander's eyes green?!
Fyre stared at Felix in boredom, occasionally poking his cheek until his finally looked at her in annoyance.
"What?"
"I'm bored."
"I'm sorry to hear that."
"Take a walk with me."
"Can't. We have to stay and watch Henry."
Fyre huffed, grabbing a dagger off her belt and throwing it in the dirt at Henry's feet, making him jump back with a yelp. The Book Seer grabbed Felix's hand, dragging him into the surrounding forest. "If anything happens, use that to protect yourself! Bye, Uke-y!"
The two heard Henry's protest to the name fade as they walked deeper and deeper into the trees. In the silence, Fyre produced her favorite snack to nibble on in boredom; Pocky. She had discovered pocky when she was on the 'Other Earth' and had immediately taken a liking to it. After she had eaten a few, she decided to stop, letting her mind wander as she tried to think of something to say to Felix. Instead, she got lost in one of her most beloved memories, a smile grazing her lips.
"Hey! You're Felix, right?"
"Who's asking?" he replied coldly, not even bothering to look up from the knife he was cleaning.
"I'm Fyre!" she said happily, sitting down next to him on the fallen tree and sitting close to him. "With a 'Y' not an 'I' like Pan thought."
Felix looked up at the hyperactive girl with a blank expression, something akin to recognition entering his eyes for a split-second. "Fascinating."
"Really?" she asked, somehow managing to perk up even more. "You like it?"
"Sure."
"Yay!"
"I have a question."
"What?"
"Why's your hair blue?"
The girl faltered. "Uh… I worked at a dye shop not long ago, and I was bored with my original color… It's my turn now! Hm… Will you be my friend?"
Felix sighed, resting his chin in the palm of his hand. "Why?"
Fyre tilted her head. "Well, if we're all staying on this island forever, we should probably all try to get along, yeah?"
"…I guess… So, you're really staying…?"
"Yup! Forever and ever!"
Felix smirked. "Oh, joy."
"You won't get rid of me," she said, dropping her nice façade and letting an impish glint into her eyes. "Don't try."
"Is that right?"
Fyre let the tip of her nose touch his as they got closer, nearly hissing her words. "Yes."
"Well, then… I think you'll make a fine friend."
"Seriously? Yay!" she said, grabbing his hand and pulling him into the forest.
"Where are we going?" he asked, an amused smile twitching at the corner of his lips.
"Hm… Here!" Fyre said, stopping suddenly and grabbing four raven feathers off the ground. She then proceeded to braid two into his hair and two into hers despite his protests. The girl whispered a quick verse, the feathers glowing for a second and then returning to their regular ebony. "Ta da!"
Felix tugged on the feathers, but they didn't even budge. "What did you do?"
"I don't know about you, but I would want to know if something bad happens to my friend, so if one of us dies, these feathers will immediately fall out. If we somehow manage to get resurrected, they'll suddenly be in our hair again. Nifty trick, yeah?"
"Cool… So, are you gonna do this for everyone in the camp, or just me?"
"Hm… Just you, because I plan on making you my best friend whether you like it or not!"
Felix just laughed, grinning at her widely. "You do that."
"I will! Forever and ever, right?"
"Right… Forever and ever…"
Fyre smiled, managing to pull herself out of her thoughts. Felix had been cold and hard to her when the first met, completely surrounded in an invisible barrier that kept the rest of the world at a safe distance. Fyre had been the one person to take a jackhammer laced with dynamite to those walls in order to gain a true friend. The funny thing was…it worked. Now she had to figure out how to push him away so he wouldn't be hurt. After six minutes of silence, Fyre finally spoke in a small voice.
"I'm leaving."
Felix stopped. "Leaving? But you just got here… Well… Do you know when you're coming back?"
"I'm not just leaving Neverland… I'm leaving the Lost Boys…"
"What?! Why?!"
"I just…don't want to be a Lost Girl anymore…"
"I can tell you're lying; you always wince when you lie. Why are you really leaving? What about us? Isn't it enough?"
Fyre grinned. "Well, we're not in paradise… It's so violent here… So much fighting…"
"No, we're not in paradise, but this is who we are! This is what we've got! It's all that we want and it's all that we're fighting for!
"How are you doing that…? Anyway, I just…can't be here…"
"Don't you remember our promise? Forever and ever, remember?!"
"Or course I remember! It's just-!"
"It's just what?!"
Fyre shouted in frustration, before rushing forward and doing something she thought she'd never do…
She kissed Felix.
Neusuada: I really like this chapter… Even if it was late and short, but I liked it!
Ashe: Sorry about it being late, homework sucks. Anyway, Felix was quoting a song by Within Temptation and Tarja called Paradise (What about us?) If you haven't heard it, listen to it. Sorry again for the chapter being late.
Neusuada: But reviews motivate us! That's not just a line; they really do motivate us!
Ashe: Please review!
Neusuada: Review and you can make your very own Lost Boy OC!
Ashe: Okay, review!
