Healing the Hawk
Vex opens his eyes to find himself in the much draftier confines of the pubs dining room, which was currently very crowded. At a glance he found the pub owner, men he recognized as some of the Avengers that Bo and Lauren had described, and on the larger table in front of the fireplace was an unidentified person in a holding stone.
The pod could be attuned to basically put any type of item on hold until it had reached its location. Lauren had once tried to explain the process to Bo and Kenzi and had finally explained it by calling it the carbonite of the fae. For some reason they got that while he didn't understand the reference until recently. Kenzi had held a mandatory movie night, featuring all of the Star War's movies. The Mesmer would be the first to admit he had been addicted to science fiction ever since.
"There now, you take care of Trick and my granddaughter and I will take care of the Archer as soon as she and her…" then she looked around at the non-fae standing around and amended whatever she was going to say, "beau arrive."
He bowed his head reverently and said, "Yes, uhm…" he hesitated as he looked around at the others.
Ennoi smiled at the Mesmer and patted him on his bare shoulder as she said, "Nonni, will do for now, little one. Get to work." Vex took her hand from his shoulder and delicately kissed the back of her hand, before turning to face the pub owner with a smile.
He put the other people standing in the room out of his head, delving into the mind of the Blood King instead. Unlike Lauren or Bo however Trick hadn't actually been programmed. Instead he was like a blank canvas, cleaned and prepped, but no basic sketch had been laid down.
He merely had to reopen the areas that had been blocked off and Trick should be back to normal. The Mesmer actually hummed to himself in relief.
At least there weren't a net of geas power to unravel and dispose of. like with Lauren and Bo. Which was good because he could tell he had been up too long, was feeling the cold too much and his wound was definitely not making things easier.
He was in the middle of unblocking the memory centers of the fae brain, when he felt the fae couple enter the pub. Kenzi had always tended to ping his mind, even before she became a fae. She moved toward the person encased in stone on the table.
He heard the other Avengers enter the dining room but went back to what he was doing. Ignoring the panicked shouts, especially from the shorter bearded one. Okay maybe not ignored because he rolled his eyes with the uncharitable thought, "Drama Queen." Yeah getting a bit distracted.
He closed his eyes hoping to be able to focus more, when a calloused hand lifted one of his own from Tricks face. He started to open his eyes when the male wolf whispered, "Keep focusing, just trying to make you a little more comfortable, pack."
A shirt and then a jacket were slipped up and over his arms.. The shirt was buttoned after firm yet gentle fingers checked the dressing on his wound. Then the same hand took his again placing it on the shoulder of the wolf, kneeling beside him as socks were pulled up over his bare feet.
He could already feel his tired and sore body warming to a more comfortable level as he pulled the last barrier from Trick's mind. The pub owner blinked several times owlishly before he stared up at the Mesmer and said, "Vex what?"
Although he hated to do it to the older fae, there were too many people in the dining room for a long explanation. Vex used his power and influenced the Blood King as he spoke, "You need to rest, you have a terrible headache and a good nights rest is what you need. Go down to your apartments, make yourself comfortable and get some sleep. Everything will be clearer in the morning." He patted the barkeeps shoulder and watched as he headed downstairs without another word.
Dyson was coming back into the dining room with what looked like a pair of rain boots and handed them to the Mesmer without a word. Vex took the galoshes from the detective and sat down in the chair that Trick had just vacated to pull the boots on over the thick woolen socks. As he did so he looked around at his surroundings.
Dyson was headed back into the bar area, as Vex was pulling on the boots. The Elder and the Goddess were apparently discussing something with one of the Avengers. While the rest of the group minus the one on the table were standing closer to the fireplace arguing amongst themselves.
As he stood up, the wolf came back with two shots of what the Mesmer could bet was a shot of Trick's top shelf Irish whiskey. Giving one to the Mesmer and keeping one for himself the pair clinked glasses with Dyson starting a quiet toast, "May you get what you need,"
"May you get what you want," Vex continued and then joined in for the last part as the pair concluded, "But may you never get what you deserve," before they both tossed the burning whiskey down. Then seeing Ennoi nod towards him, the Mesmer handed his pack mate the shot glass and headed toward the pair of women.
Ennoi spoke quietly to the pair and said, "Vex you will have to keep the Archer under and as pain free as possible. Kenzi you probably know the most about human anatomy, plus you have the smallest hands. You will be helping me do the internal work, I will be boosting the Hawk's healing ability," Ennoi explained.
"We are going to try to keep their exposure to magic and fae power as limited as possible. You and I will have to link up little one so I can channel my magic through you. We need something to keep them occupied except perhaps the doctor he seems more accepting. The Thunder god will recognize some of it and may tell his friends." she said with a frustrated huff.
"Leave it to me," said Kenzi with a cheery if tired smile, she turned to the men gathered in the room and said briskly, "We need hot water, a lot more light, clean towels. Don't use Trick's tablecloths he'll kill you. A magnifying glass, a sewing kit or at the very least, needles, thread, and scissors." When the men looked at her dazedly she growled but managed to keep from changing.
She ordered with a little more snap and a bit of Alpha tone thrown in for good measure, "Stark you can rig something up in the way of good lights like now, inventor and no time for perfection, Thor if you haven't figured out by this age how to boil water go upstairs and learn and don't mess up my grandmothers kitchen. Otherwise she'll probably stick that hammer where the sun don't shine."
"Captain being a man of the forties and a soldier, I have no doubt you probably have a sewing kit tucked into your suitcase somewhere, do you mind?" she said then turned to Banner and her wolf and said, "Don't tell Trick but I know he has a magnifying glass somewhere around here, try and find it please. He's getting older and needs glasses but he refuses to get a pair. Male egos are so fragile." she said blandly.
"Or we could just take him to the hospital," Tony snarked a the younger woman and was stung by the speaking glance she gave him before answering.
"Sure if you think he'll survive to get there once we take him out of stasis. Oh and even if we leave him in stasis till you get him there, you really think they're going to think this happened right on their doorstep without ANYBODY NOTICING. Then there's the cops, tell me I'm wrong but something tells me the Avengers being in town isn't supposed to be public knowledge."
She drew a deep breath, pushing back the wolf who was always trying to come out now when she grew agitated. "Or you can just stand here arguing the points and make me so edgy I'd rather rip your throat out than help your friend," Okay so pushing down a little harder on the Alpha she wolf she thought as she leaned back into the comforting arms of her wolf and said more calmly, "Your choice."
"Stark!" came the surprisingly sharp tone of Dr. Bruce Banner from beside Annie, "Stop wasting time and get to work on the lights."
Banner began looking through Trick's desk to try and find a magnifying glass or two. The other Avengers left to accomplish their tasks, although Kenzi did note that Stark was mumbling under his breath as he left. The Elder ignored him and went over to one of the Blood Kings shelves of books and began looking for a reference book on human anatomy she had seen there once. She figured she didn't really want to know why a former fae leader had a book on the anatomy of humans in his library.
She finally found the book she was looking for and began speed reading through the pertinent parts. Dyson stayed close to her while searching through the accumulated belongings of the pub owner.
He knew she was quite literally exhausted, what with the seemingly random attacks on them. As well as now dealing with Annie's new friends. Well maybe more than friends he thought again as he saw the doctor rub Annie's shoulder as he handed her at least one magnifying glass he had found in the desk. Dyson nudged Kenzi' foot with his own and nodded toward the pair. Kenzi followed the direction of his gaze and her eyebrows raised nearly to her hairline but she didn't say anything.
The Captain returned first with the sewing kit in hand as well as some towels he' filched from their hotel, followed closely by the demigod carrying a soup pot full of hot water. Then the inventor came back in no longer wearing his visor, the Thunder god nearly collided with him as he charged back toward the kitchen. He walked around the table that his friend was laying on, trying to find the best angle from the looks of it.
Meanwhile Doctor Banner had found another magnifying glass, which he was showing to Annie to compare the strengths of the two glasses and Steve was showing Kenzi the needles and thread he had in his mini sewing kit.
Kenzi almost felt bad for all the trouble the group of Avengers were going through to help their friend, when it was really all camouflage. Vex would keep the Archer from thrashing around, Ennoi would channel the magic needed through her adopted granddaughter and Kenzi having the smallest hands would have her fingers inside the archers abdomen sending the energy into the damaged tissues to heal them.
Truthfully she didn't need the thread or needles and would palm the thread when the time came. The Avengers' might suspect there was something odd about the crowd currently helping them but they weren't going to get any proof by watching Kenzi this evening. Ennoi didn't seem all that concerned with what they might or might not see however. As she drew Vex and Kenzi over to the cocoon type structure and touched one of the glyphs on the curved bone .
The head and upper half of the torso were exposed and Vex quickly placed his fingers on the temples of the Archer. He began to speak to the young man in a low toned voice and proceeded to carry on a low, soothing conversation with him. After a moment or two of this he nodded toward Kenzi and Annie with a reassuring smile.
The thunder god came back into the main dining area carrying a stack of bowls and a ladle. He used the ladle to put water from the still steaming pot into each of the bowls. Antibacterial soap and a towel were placed by the first bowl. Thread, needles, and the small set of scissors that came with the sewing kit were placed in the second bowl. Wash cloths were soaking in the third bowl. As Kenzi watched the larger man wrung the water from one of the towels and proceeded to clean his friends body, just above the wound.
As Kenzi went to wash her hands in the first bowl. Stark finally found the angle he was looking for and set his visor among the beams that crisscrossed the ceiling of the pub., then fiddled with something inside and the table and its surroundings were bathed in a bright white light.
"Good job," Kenzi said as the Captain handed her the needles and other materials. The doctor had managed to find a small first aid kit with dressings and such they could use. Annie had lowered the field more so that Thor could clean around the wound carefully.
"Thanks," Tony Stark said, with a hint of surprise, "This is surprisingly better than I thought it would be." he added only a little doubtfully.
"Glad you think so," Kenzi said blandly, "Considering I'm about to be up to my elbows in your friends insides." Before adding to Annie, "I'm ready."
