I felt a jolt next to me startlign me awake, Bill was beside me propped up on his elbows breathing deeply. Tran and him must have switched shifts in the middle of the night.

"What?" I asked him concerned about what had woken us up.

"We hit something." he said as we heard another thud against the side of the boat.

"Shit." I said as he got out of the cubby and walked over to Tran, I followed right behind him.

"Rivers flooded." Tran said calmly but with a twinge of apprehension.

"Miss our turn off?" Bill asked in the same manner Tran had used.

"It's just ahead." Tran said nervously as I stood behind them. The river was flooded, logs and varying jungle debris floating all throughout the river.

"Damn." I muttered under my breath at the sight. We had been on the flooded river before but it had never been to this magnitude. A much larger thud shook the boat making us all jump at the suddenness.

"What the hell was that?" Bill asked as he looked over the side of the boat. Tran was trying to steer, but the wheel wouldn't budge.

"Rudder's jammed." Tran said with concern.

"What?" Bill asked in disbelief. It wasn't necessarily a question but an exclamation. Tran moved as Bill took the reins trying to to make the wheel turn, it refused to budge.

"Shit!" he said giving up on the wheel. He took off down the ladder. Tran and I shared an uneasy look having no idea how this situation would turn out.

"So this means we're in deep shit, right?" I asked, Tran nodded and looked back out at the water.

"Get up! Everybody get up!" I could hear Bill yelling below, hitting the doors, making sure people got the message to get up.

"You got this?" I asked him, figuring I could be useful down below. Tran nodded as I bolted down the ladder in a similar fashion the Bill had.

"Whats going on?" Gordon said coming out of Gail's room, with Gail. I shuddered knowing as soon as this was over I was going to be buying a new mattress and sheets.

"Goddamn it!" Bill exclaimed as he hit the engine with a wrench.

"Whats up?" I said standing next to him and Sam, who was sleeping in the hammock above the engine, since it was the only logical place we could think to have a hammock.

"Shit! We've blown the head gasket." Bill said. Millions of swear words swirled through my mind, I tried to pick just one to say but none of them added up to how truly screwed we were.

"Are we alright?" Sam asked.

"No." I said plainly as the swear words still jumbled my mind.

"Hey, what's going on?" Jack asked as he walked up to us. Bill ignored his presence and walked past him to the other side of the boat. "What is it?" Jack asked as I passed him.

"We've got problems." Bill said as he came back in our direction just to turn to the ladder going back up. I followed waiting for Bill to tell me what I needed to do to rectify this situation. When I reached the deck Tran was still trying to make the wheel turn but it still wouldn't budge. He glanced back to us hearing someone coming up the ladder. When he saw Bill he moved aside to allow the Captain to work his magic. He boosted the propellers and tried to make the wheel turn again.

"Son of a bitch. The current's too strong." he said as his plan was failing. We kept coasting along with the current, in the opposite direction we needed to go.

"We missed our turn off." I pointed out.

"I know. Come on baby." Bill said with hope that his plan would still work. The passengers were beginning to panic below. I looked at the dashboard with all the controls. The light I was concerned about was still green, the propellers were still working. I glanced up and an all new fear hit me.

"Bill." I said trying to get his attention, he was so focused on what was doing he didnt hear me. "Bill." I repeated.

"Come on. You got this. Come on girl." he said to the boat, out of the corner of my eye I saw the green light go to red, the propellers had stopped. Bill hit the dashboard in front of him out of anger.

"Bill!" I yelled hoping to grab his attention now.

"What!?" he yelled back out of frustration.

"We have bigger problems." I said pointing out the window.

"Shit!" Bill said as he saw the giant waterfall in front of us, Tran instantly went below deck.

"Everybody hang on." Tran yelled below us.

"Hang on?!" some of the people particularly Cole said. I jumped over to where Bill and I had been sleeping holding on to one of the support bars.

It seemed like it took hours to make it to the edge of the waterfall. It was only a couple of minutes though as we began going over. I could hear everyone's screams as we all held on for our lives. We hit the water and it soon began filling every crack and crevice. I was too scared to move, refusing to let go of the pole as we hit the water. When I overcame my fear I let go expecting to swim up, only to be caught within the makeshift bed. I was being dragged further and further down into the water in the sinking boat. I couldn't get out, the water was rushing to fast and it was too strong. The only thing I could do was try and get free. The water current began weakened in strength, I was able to free myself and swim out and away from the boat. My lungs felt like they were on fire, ready to pop as I pushed through swimming to the surface. The moment my face hit the surface I breathed in the sweet oxygen, thankful that I had made it out alive. I swam in place for a moment trying to catch my breath and get a grasp of my surroundings. As I looked around I noticed everyone either swimming to or already on shore. Once I was able to steady my breath I began slowly swimming towards the shore where the others were. By the time I reached them Bill and Cole dragged me out of the water, my breath no longer caught. They sat me on the shoreline, as we all sat staring at the waterfall and the wreckage, absorbing what had just happened.
