Chapter 12: Learning More About Courtney

"So, what's this Total Drama world you come from?" Cedar questions with curiosity towards her new friend.

"Yeah, what's it like," Hunter followed.

"It's a long story short," Courtney began to tell her new friends while sounding a bit nervous. "It's pretty much a reality show where teenagers from different backgrounds all come together and compete on it to win a million dollars."

"What kind of teenagers," Cerise asked as she raises in an eyebrow.

"Well, they're just like you guys, kind of." Courtney states as she explains what the teenagers that appear on Total Drama are like. "There are popular kids, there are rich kids, kind kids, and even rebels like you guys, but a little more worse." The CIT put some vague feeling on the rebel description since it's obviously reminded her of Duncan.

It was now Poppy's turn to ask a question, "Why would these rebels be worse than us?"

Courtney sighed ,"That's another long story short, I was cheated on one."

The Rebels all gasped in shock.

"You don't mean as in," Hunter tried to solve the puzzle, but Courtney nodded in sadness and out came a melancholy yes from her voice.

"Oh no Courtney, we're so sorry," Ashlynn said with sympathy.

"It's okay, it's in the past now and I'm over him." Courtney weakly smiled, trying not to show her pain.

"But still," Cedar picked up "your ex-boyfriend must be a total jerk if he had the guts to cheat on you."

"Cedar's right, if I ever meet him, he would be messing with the wrong hooded girl." Cerise said all headstrong and even punched her fists in the air. All of these comments and praise that she was receiving helped made Courtney feel happy once more since it showed that the Rebels really did like her.

"Yeah, cheating is never right in a relationship and should never be tolerated." Cupid angrily pointed out.

The CIT smiled at her new friends. "You guys are all so caring," The Rebels all smiled back at her. "But," Courtney sighed again "even though I felt heartbroken when I found out, I sometimes believe that I deserved it." The comment made all the Rebels once again change their moods.

"Wait what," Cedar asked with a concerned accent.

"No Courtney, you're," Poppy tried to prove her new friend wrong.

Courtney stopped her and started to talk again, but this time pessimistically.

"No, I believe it was my fault. After all, Duncan never liked listening to rules or people telling him what to do."

"Duncan," Hunter wondered while he raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"That was my boyfriend's name, and the one that cheated on me." The CIT confessed with a face that morphed from sadness to down right pitiful. She then looked over at Raven, who then knew that it was time for her to reveal the whole story about her crush when she first met her back at the Enchanted Forest.

"I still don't understand," Cedar replied, "if Duncan cheated on you, why are you saying it was your fault, Courtney?"

"Don't worry Cedar, Courtney told Maddie and I her whole story, so I'll tell you all." The Rebel Queen winked at her crush whom mouthed a "thank you" and flashed a smile at her.

"What Courtney really means is that when she was on the show," Raven began to tell her fellow Rebels her love interest's origin, "she had two sides. One was that she was kind and passionate to her fellow players, but she was also smart and independent." The Rebels now started to follow Raven's explanation.

"However," Raven continued, she also had a few faults that made up her second personality." The Rebel Queen paused a bit. "Besides being smart and independent, Courtney was bossy, rude, prissy, and very competitive when it came to challenges."

"Is that so," a third-party voice came out from behind. Everyone looked and saw that it was Melody from earlier.

"Melody, you finally came." Raven gleefully chirped.

"You know it, I did say I would catch up with you guys later on, right?" The Pied Piper's DJ daughter flashed her friends a smile and took a sit by Poppy. "So, what did I miss?"

"Nothing really, you actually came just in time to hear my story, told by Raven." Courtney explained to her roommate in a calm way.

"Oh really,"

The CIT nodded.

"Well after all, you are new here, so it wouldn't hurt to hear more about you." Melody added in a satisfying tone.

"Exactly, now anyways," Raven moved ahead, "despite Courtney's flaws, she had everything on the show: friends, a good team, and a boyfriend."

"Whose name was Duncan," Maddie threw in.

"Yes yes, they got that Maddie." Raven nodded and grinned at her best friend. She continued.

"So, even though our new friend had everything on the show, that all changed when the new seasons happened."

"New seasons," Ceder inquired.

"What happened in these new seasons?" Ashlynn asked with a worried expression.

"Well, here's where the controversy that Courtney started to face kicks in." Before she went on to start the next part, The Rebel Queen took a very long deep breath. "When she was on the first season of the show, Total Drama Island, Courtney was kicked off because of an unfair game; so, when the second season, Total Drama Action came around, Courtney ended up winning a lawsuit since she didn't originally qualify for the game." The Rebel with black and purple hair concluded the first half of her friend's second origin.

"So when Courtney debuted on Total Drama Action, this is when she started to become too bossy and started to push everyone who was in her way around, including Duncan." Raven added in, and this once again made The Rebels feel surprised.

"All because she was kicked off the first season unfairly," Poppy said.

"Shocking isn't it," The CIT replied.

"Yeah, it actually is to be honest;" Cerise started to talk again, "I can understand being a bit competitive, but wow."

"That's not the worst part though," Courtney responded again. "The worst part is when I started to boss Duncan around and use him a bit."

Melody asked, "Why did you use him?" "And boss him around?" Cedar put in.

"Yeah, didn't you care for him?" Hunter also questioned.

"I did, but when I was trying to win my lawsuit, I'd learned that Duncan started to form a friendship with fellow contestant, Gwen. A goth girl who was like him; and then." Courtney froze a bit.

"And then what?" Cupid concerned.

"And then, and then," The CIT couldn't take it anymore and finally broke down crying. Eventually, Raven and Maddie started to comfort her.

"What, what happened when Duncan befriended Gwen?" Cedar asked in curiosity and concerned at the same time.

Courtney sniffled, "I got jealous of them, that's what happened!" The CIT wailed and she continued the rest of the story. "And then, when I'd debuted on Action, Duncan and I had to put our relationship on hold," The CIT bawled. "But this is what caused our relationship to fall apart: my jealously towards his friendship with Gwen!" Courtney's tears started to increase, so Maddie decided to reach into her hat and pulled out a box of tissues for her Total Drama friend.

"Thank you," Courtney said as she took them. She then used them to wipe her tears away and blow her nose. "So afterwards, when I found out about their friendship, I told Duncan that if he and I wanted a good and improved relationship, then he would have to fix up his faults." As Courtney's story started to increase, The Rebels all got the idea and finally realized what The Princess really meant.

"Okay, so what you're saying is that you did had a good relationship with Duncan," Cerise began to recap.

"However, when you got on the second season, you felt jealous that he was forming a friendship and spending time with one of the contestants, a Goth Girl named Gwen," Cedar went on.

"And you told him that if you both wanted a good relationship, he had to fix his faults," joined in Hunter.

"But in conclusion, he didn't like it and got tired of your bossiness." Melody finished.

Courtney sadly nodded. "I didn't have to give you guys any hints, you solved it immediately."

"But that still doesn't explain why you guys broke up;" Ashlynn pointed out.

"Hold on, we're getting there, Ashlynn." Raven responded while trying to help Courtney feel better, and luckily The CIT took a few more sniffles and did felt better again. Seeing this made Maddie and Raven smile, and so did Courtney.

"Alright, so wrapping up this story," Maddie went on.

"Right," Raven started to tell the final part of the story, "then the third season, Total Drama World Tour came and once again, Courtney, Duncan, and Gwen participated in this season."

"But, this only caused more trouble," added in Courtney.

Poppy asked, "Which was," but before anything else can happen, Courtney blurted out the answer.

"Duncan ended up quitting the show, but then Gwen and I became friends; yet afterwards when Duncan came back," Courtney gulped and out came more waterworks. "He and Gwen kissed behind my back, and this is what caused our breakup!"

Hearing the cries of sorrow coming out of their real world friend made Raven and Maddie comfort Courtney once more. In addition, it even made the Rebels feel more sympathy for her.

"So if Duncan and Gwen kissed behind your back, does that mean," Cerise questioned.

"Gwen and I no longer stayed friends, you got that right." Courtney sobbed as Raven rubbed her back; as well as sparking a sympathetic look towards her. In addition, even the others looked at each other in the same emotion.

"Oh poor Courtney," Cedar spoke, "even though she felt guilty for her actions, she didn't deserve all that." All of the Rebels nod in their heads in agreement.

"Do you think there is anything we can do," Cerise asked feeling apprehend while she eyed over at the crying CIT Princess being comforted by the Rebel Queen. While eyeing this himself, Hunter then came up with an idea.

"Well," the huntsman spoke, "since we just met Courtney and seeing how hurtful she is from the past, all I can think of is we just have to be there for Courtney." Everyone looked up at Hunter with amazement. Even Courtney herself bopped her head up with the same emotion.

"Really, you will all help me," The Princess flashed a light smile as her tears now became happy ones. Poppy's turn to speak to Courtney came. "Well, seeing how much pain you still have from the past, and how willing Raven and Maddie were able to bring you here, despite being from the real world," The hair stylist grinned, "I say, I would love to help you Courtney," Poppy paused for a minute but then Melody revealed her pseudonym and finished the rest of the statement.

"Bailar-Tanets, we shall all help Courtney Bailar-Tanets while she adapts to Ever After High." The Pied Piper's daughter winked. Afterwards, the other Rebels agreed to help Courtney get through the said school with Raven and Maddie. Now that she officially has new friends, Courtney started to feel tears of joy in her eyes ad hugged each and every Rebel, and even thanked them.

"So it's official," Raven spoke once more, "Courtney is not only a new student at Ever After High," "But also a Rebel!" Maddie cheered and so did everyone else.

Viewing this new event made Courtney not only feel happy, but also safe. She was safe from Duncan, she was safe from Gwen, she was safe from Total Drama as a whole, but most importantly: she was safe from heartbreak with the Rebels on her side. Especially with her new love.
