Let's get into action!
The Limitless arrived at the suburb which was currently under attack. Explosions were occurring everywhere and people were running away in panic.
"Where are the attackers?" Volk asked as he took out his survival knives.
These last ones quickly revealed themselves: strange grey human-like creatures with red eyes who were shooting red laser balls with their hands. Upon noticing the Limitless Team, they switched all their attention to them and charged on the attack.
"What the heck are those things?!" Livai asked with his eyes wide open.
"I don't know, but I doubt they came here to have fun," Darkmare said with taking out his heavy sword.
The aliens engaged the team in close combat. They were pretty agile and skillful, like martial arts practitioners. Beetle Man was having a hard time facing many of them at once - luckily his beetle armor was solid and he could take some hits with no problem.
"Take that!" Livai shouted with using his barrel gun to shoot sleep ammunitions which put the aliens to sleep.
Volk was performing flips and jumps to avoid the aliens' attacks. He then gave a smirk. "A new type of prey to hunt? I like that!" He used his survival knives to swiftly cut down the aliens and shooting the ones at distance with his crossbow.
One of the aliens smashed Ultimate Tiger across the face. However, the God of the Zodiac did not even flinch and just glared at his opponent who gave a nervous smile. "Don't go think you can defeat Ultimate Tiger with a simple punch!" the feline declared before grabbing the alien by the leg, swinging him real fast, and tossing him into his comrades.
As for Darkmare, he was making quick and easy work of those little grey dudes with his giant sword, doing strong and quick moves with it. Before long, they were all defeated and ran away. "We must not let them escape! We have to ask them the reason for their attack first!" Darkmare said, putting his giant sword away.
"Don't worry; there is plenty more for you!"
The team turned to see an intruder. It was some kind of skeleton monster carrying a musketeer sword and a black magician hat on his head. His bone jaw twisted in a smirk.
"Who the heck are you?" Beetle Man asked with a confused look. Even though he fought aliens, seeing a pile of talking bones was pretty creepy.
"I'm the Bone Soldier, pleased to meet you," he said with a sarcastic bow.
"Why are you attacking this suburb? Answer now?" Darkmare firmly ordered.
"No need to get so hasty. I'll tell you everything you want to know if you can defeat us."
The Limitless Team rose curious eyebrows at the word "us". However, they quickly got their answer as the monster named Bone Soldier rose his skeletal hands and summoned little skeletons with smaller swords out of nowhere.
"You didn't though I came here only with those dumb Patrollers, did you?" Bone Soldier asked with a chuckle. "Now, my Little Bones, attack them! It's time to prove we are strong enough to take down those pathetic humans!"
The Little Bones obeyed and charged, engaging the fight with the Limitless Team. They were stronger than the Patrollers, but nothing the heroes couldn't take care of. Beetle Man decided to take a chance and attack Bone Soldier directly with a dive kick.
Bone Soldier easily blocked and backflipped. "You really thought you would take me down with such a simple attack?" he asked with a chuckle.
"Don't worry; that was only an opener!" Beetle Man declared and got in close combat with a series of punches and kicks while also making sure to dodge Bone Soldier's sword swings.
At one point, he ended up landing a spin kick into his torso which made Bone Soldier fall to pieces. That was all? This guy was really weak. Thinking he had won, Beetle Man turned around to go help his friends defeat the Little bones. However, he failed to notice that his opponent's bones came back together to normal and Bone Soldier then delivered a kick into his back, knocking him down.
"Don't sell your opponent before you defeated him!" he said, twisting his jaw into a smirk once again.
"W-What?! B-But I just took you down!" Beetle Man exclaimed in confusion.
"Sorry to ruin your superhero moment, but I can reform myself as long as a certain part of my body isn't destroyed."
Groaning, Beetle Man quickly got back up and went for another attack which Bone Soldier swiftly dodged and used his sword to cut at his back, cutting his beetle wings in the process. He then grabbed him by the throat and said: "Let's go have a little ride, shall we?"
Beetle Man struggled to break free in vain as the skeleton monster started bringing him up a hill. Livai saw it and widened his eyes as he realized that Bone Soldier was going to throw his best friend down the hill. He had to help him!
The only problem was that the hill Bone Soldier was climbing was pretty elevated and any fall would certainly result in getting badly injured or even death. However, seeing his friend helpless and on the verge of getting killed caused Livai to feel something stronger than his fear.
Courage.
I couldn't let fear take over him, not when his best friend was in danger and the others were too busy to help. Taking a deep breath, the cowboy rushed and started climbing up the hill, forcing himself not to look down and up toward his destination. He managed to arrive just in time as Bone Soldier was holding Beetle Man above the emptiness and about to drop him to his death.
"Goodbye, little bug," Bone Soldier said with a smirk. However, before he could drop Beetle Man to his death, Livai arrived from behind and smashed his head away with his barrel gun. He then caught his best friend's hand before he could fall.
"I got you!" the cowboy said and dragged his best friend back up to safety.
"Thanks, man! You saved my life!" Beetle Man happily said and hugged his best friend who returned the gesture.
Bone Soldier was about to reform, but Volk grabbed his head, preventing him from doing so. The others were done with the Little Bones and could now take care of the villain responsible for all this destruction.
"Please! Don't kill me! I was forced to do that!" Bone Soldier begged.
"You better tell us why you attacked those innocent people unless you want to face my wrath," Ultimate Tiger said with a growl.
"Please! I just wanted to prove my worth to Warlord! Or he would've killed me!" Bone Soldier begged again.
This earned him a confused look from the heroes. "Who's Warlord?" Darkmare asked.
MEANWHILE IN SPACE
Warlord has been watching the whole fight from his throne room thanks to his advanced view. He chuckled a bit to himself.
"So Bone Soldier has been defeated, huh?" he said with rubbing his chin. "Those humans might be entertaining after all."
The next day, after the Limitless Team had brought Bone Soldier to General Seguin so he could get him locked up, the team were once again gathered at All In for a juice, when the general contacted them via the communicators.
"Good work, Limitless Team," he said. "You saved a lot of people and arrested a monster together. I think you deserve special congratulations, Livai. You overcame your fear of heights to save Juice."
"Yeah, that was very brave, dude," Volk said with patting the cowboy's shoulder.
"Stop guys; you're gonna make me blush," Livai chuckled.
"We're gonna work hard to make Bone Soldier talk until he tells us more about this Warlord," the general finished before ending the communication.
"I suggest we make a toast to our new success as a team," Juice said with rising his smoothie. "To the Limitless Team!"
"To the Limitless Team!" the others shouted at unison and also rose their respective drink for a toast.
The Limitless Team have defeated Bone Soldier and learned about Warlord's existence. I think we all should congratulate Livai for overcoming his fear of heights: even the greatest heroes have personal fears. However, the better ones have the guts to face them, just like our little cowboy.
