'Falling into you, there's nothing I can do, I've got no defence against you.'
Astrid followed Lilly's blank expression to Drake Merwin and instinctively a shiver ran down her back. A crease appeared on her pretty face and she turned to look at the girl she had come to think of as a friend. 'What do you mean, Lilly?' She asked quietly. 'Are you talking about Drake?'
The other girl scoffed and looked away, her fingertips brushing the bruises on her wrists. 'Who else?' Astrid watched her carefully as she spoke. 'It was meant to be fun, a game,' she was whispering as if she had forgotten the blonde was there as she stared at the ground, 'I didn't believe them, I thought he wouldn't hurt me; couldn't.' A tear slipped down her cheek and it seemed to jolt her out of her memories and she turned to Astrid with wide eyes.
'Hey, it's okay, you can talk to me.' Astrid smiled and reached out to place her hand reassuringly on Lilly's arm.
She jolted away and up onto her feet as if she had been electrocuted. 'It doesn't matter anymore.' She snarled. 'Its over.'
She was dreaming and it was a good dream. The sun beat down onto her face and she turned her face up towards it. The heat washed over her like a blanket and for the first time in a long time she was happy.
But it was just a dream.
'You think it's over?' His voice broke through the rays, a dark cloud moving in. 'You can't escape, I'm with you wherever,' he barked a cold laugh, 'it'll never be over.'
For a long time Lilly laid on her back in bed and stared at the ceiling of her small house. This had become a steady routine that she had managed to avoid. Even if she did go outside she had nothing to fear. Drake had given up completely - bigger things consumed his mind now. Was she happy? The weighted feeling in her chest wasn't happiness. Telling Astrid had been a mistake for now the girl was constantly checking up on her and Lilly wondered if she had told Sam or even spoken to Drake himself. The thought made her feel sick.
For now thoughts of Brianna were slowly consuming her. She had laid in the bed for a day and a half now as she slowly built up the courage to go and find her only friend. As the sun set over Perdidio Beach, Lilly suddenly sat up and decided it was now or never. She quietly left the house and set out for Coates.
The walk would have been long had she not known to cut through the forest which she did with no qualms. She was quietly confident in herself and trudged along em dirt tracks in a peaceful quiet. It didn't cross her mind that the last time she had been taking these roads she had been running for her life. Eventually Coates loomed out of the darkness and it looked years older; it looked abandoned. Lilly shivered.
'Wake the fuck up!'
A boot struck her in her side and her eyes flew open with a quiet gasp. They darted wildly around the room before coming to rest on him. He was staring down at her furiously - no, not anger, disgust.
A hand came towards her with all the intentions of no doubt hurting her. She cringed but the strike never came and she opened one eye. He was staring at her but this time with slight disbelief.
It was then she realised that she had stopped him. Her own arm was raised, long thin fingers wrapped around his wrist where she held him. She looked at her hand with the a bemused expression. 'Stop.' She finally rasped.
A smile spread over his handsome face. 'Finally.'
