I'll start off by saying I am Sooooo Sorry its taking me this long, but I'm trying. I'm posting this from Dublin, Ireland right now! BTW completely un-betad. Probably some of my worst and most rushed work, so again SORRY! No idea when I'll be able to post again, I don't know if Africa has a whole lot of free wifi (where I'll be until the end of October) but I promise on the K/S/M relationship that I will try my best to keep updating. Anyway back to the story, it starts off with a Dr. M'Benga and nurse Chapel convo, first names are Christine and Geoffrey, then it works into McCoy's perspective, just in case you get confused I'm telling you. Warnings….Um sadness I guess? Still humorous and I hate sad endings so obviously this story will not end sadly. So please enjoy! Rate/Review go crazy my fabulous fans that I love so much!
Old Body, New Problems
"Christine I'm not even sure what pisses me off the most!"
"Geoffrey, it's not that surprising that this happened. Did you really think they were going to just come out and tell us? The Captain wont even tell Leonard when he is bleeding out! Commander Spock only comes to sickbay when ordered or he is visiting Kirk or Leonard. Len is a doctor too Geoffrey, maybe he just thought he could handle it."
"That's the problem! McCoy didn't major in Vulcan physiology! Let alone half Vulcan physiology. They could have seriously injured themselves and the baby! Imagine what could –"
"Geoffrey the point is the here and now, we will worry about the side effects later. Now you should focus on waking up McCoy and the Captain since Spock will have to wake up on his own."
"I know, I know…."
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"Dr. McCoy should be waking soon."
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"The Captain will probably wake in a couple hours, but knowing Jim Kirk, its really up to him." The unknown voice said in the distance with a sort of melancholy tone.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"And Commander Spock?" a second voice asked quietly.
Jim? Spock? Something's wrong with Spock?! Spock! Jim!
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
I need to get up! I need to get up!
"Dr. McCoy! Dr. McCoy! Leonard McCoy! Can you hear us? Do you know where you are?" the melancholy voice asked suddenly sounding alarmed.
Leonard McCoy knew he recognized the voice he just couldn't place it…where am I again? He wondered. Why am I worried about a baby? His memory was coming to him in little chunks all in a mismatched kind of order, he knew there was something he needed to do, someone who needed his care…
...Spock! Jim!
It all came flooding back to him in a matter of seconds; the first switch, the confessions, the love, the realizations, the issues and their solutions, Sybok, the transporter….then darkness.
Oh my god how'd I even forget! Leonard McCoy shot up gasping for air in a hysterical panic.
"Doctor McCoy! Take deep breaths. Come on, inhale, exhale. Just calm down everything is going to be okay." The voice said as forceful arms held McCoy in place and allowed him to try and breath normally. Leonard knew that voice, it was M'Benga!
"Len, can you breath? Anything hurt? How's the memory?" M'Benga asked as he rattled off questions which were usually for stalling, or assessing a patients mental health…
"How.." Bones tried to speak but his throat was rough from lack of use and it came out as a pitiful croak.
"One sec, I've got ice." The quite voice from earlier responded, he recognized it now, the always helpful Nurse Chapel.
The ice cubes felt shockingly cold as he sucked on them and the cool liquid ran down his aching throat.
"How are Spock and Jim?" Bones asked forgetting about himself but not quite ready to ask about the baby, he wasn't sure he wanted to know what had happened. "How long have I been out?"
M'Benga's face suddenly became dark, it wasn't a good sign. "Tell me why I have a pregnant male Vulcan hybrid with a broken bond first?!" M'Benga demanded.
The last three words were the only thing Bones could hear in his head, "Broken? The bond is broken?" Leonard asked himself not realizing he'd said it aloud.
"Dr. McCoy, what have you not been telling me? I don't care how any of this happened I just want to know why I wasn't informed and why my one Vulcan crewmember has practically put himself into a healing coma."
"Coma!? Spock's in a coma?!" Leonard screamed as he tried to jump off his bio-bed to see but was instantly pushed backed down by his fellow doctor.
"Len, it's a healing trance, Commander Spock should be fine, eventually. Jim's fine too, but tell me, what happened?!"
Bones sighed, he knew they should have just told him in the first place when they had told the command crew.
"Alright, alright, we should have told everyone in the beginning but we didn't know any of this was going to happen," Leonard said as he waved his arms around gesturing to the insane existence that is his life. M'Benga almost interrupted to ask what he meant but Bones put up a hand signaling him that he would explain it all eventually, "Almost a month ago Jim, Spock and I were working that diplomatic mission that went all to hell and then the beam up went weird." He paused waiting for M'Benga to acknowledge that he remembered, with a tilt of the head Bones continued, "Well the beam up caused us to switch bodies." M'Benga's eyes went wide so Bones paused again to let him take it all in.
"I was in Jim's body, Spock was in mine and Jim was in Spock's. We pretended to be our bodies for almost a week when some…things…happened and we switched again, leaving Jim in my body, Spock in Jim's and me in Spock's." Bones wanted to avoid the full details and hoped that Geoffery would be too concerned with the now and not ask for the specifics.
"We stayed that way for a little bit longer and that's how we were when we beamed down to the colony. Scotty did an emergency beam back when the ship was about to takeoff and that switched us back leaving us unconscious. Then I woke up here." For a brief moment Bones thought that he had explained enough that Geoffery wouldn't question him any further…
…wrong
"Thank you for the brief explanation, but you left out the part where yourself, the Captain and Commander got together and conceived the child. Not to mention that at some point you bonded. All in less than a month, I'm not sure if I should be appalled or congratulate you." M'Benga said smiling at the shocked stare coming from the Chief Medical Officer.
"But…you…If you knew then why did you ask?!" Bones demanded still blushing red from embarrassment and just a little bit of annoyance.
"Because I wanted to hear the story from you." M'Benga answered simply. "When Chapel arrived at the transporter the three of you were unconscious. Spock had gone into a healing trance but there was no explanation as to why you and the Captain had remained unconscious. Lieutenant Uhura and Commander Scott came in and told me and Christine everything they knew, speaking of which, why wasn't I invited to the meeting? Anyway from their answers it was pretty easy to figure out what had happened."
"…And what has happened since we lost consciousness?" McCoy whispered dreading the answer.
M'Benga gave a very Spock answer by raising his eyebrow but McCoy missed it as he hung his head fearing for the worst.
Geoffrey sighed, "Well for starters, we never left New Vulcan. Chekov apparently put a katana threw the main systems control board and stopped all the engines so we wouldn't take off." Leonard's head jerked up at this.
"So we beamed up for nothing?!" McCoy screamed
"Yes and No," M'Benga replied quickly, "If you hadn't beamed up you would still be stuck in someone else's body. As I was saying, Chekov put Sulu's katana threw the engine controls, after informing Chapel of your situation as best he could Commander Scott took control of the Enterprise. He is royally pissed about the katana sticking out of his engine controls but at the same time he knows that if Chekov hadn't have done so we would be in Klingon space right now."
"You're kidding me! Klingon space?" Leonard said completely lost for words, he was almost lightheaded.
"Nope, apparently Sybok was trying to send the ship into Klingon space. He left over half the ship unconscious you know, myself included. Christine had just gotten the three of you settled into bio beds when I began to wake up. She told me what she knew and after a few tests I worked the rest out myself. The bond between you three is strong, which is rare since you've only had it for a month. The bond is not necessarily broken at the moment but Spock is blocking it so strongly that it might as well be."
"Why is he blocking it?" McCoy demanded, feeling nauseous and confused.
"To protect you and the Captain." M'Benga said sounding surprised that Leonard didn't already know that.
"Protect us? Protect us from what?" Leonard asked suddenly feeling green and queasy.
"From losing the baby."
It was too much, Bones bolted from the room and puked his guts out in the first bathroom he came too.
Am I really that heartless to just leave you there? The answer is no, no I am not. Hence why I posted another chapter! Just FYI the Beep. Beep. Was supposed to be the sound of McCoy's biobed heart monitor when he started to wake up. I also apologize again because this really is some of my worst work and my shortest chapter.
