Lex woke with a start, disoriented by her unfamiliar surroundings. She could see nothing but bright light and white walls for a moment, several of the voices in her psyche screamed for her to run away as they barraged her with images of labs and prisons alike.
"I see you are awake." Said Dr. McCoy, his familiar voice calming her as she oriented herself in the room. It was the Medbay, a place Lex had not been since the early days of her existence. She had some foggy memories of it but most of that period of her life was blurred and confusing. She and her sisters had taken a while to adjust to life just like any other newborn.
"How do you feel?" Dr. McCoy asked, putting an end to her reminiscing.
"Alright." Lex said sitting up slowly in the bed. "Did I pass out?"
"Unfortunately it seems you did. Do you remember what happened this morning?" He asked handing her a bottle of water.
"I remember Marie and I were in the gazebo and she fell over the railing. I was holding her somehow, with my powers I guess. I knew that I was going to drop her soon because I wasn't strong enough. Then Jean came and lifted her up and I ran away. I made it to the steps in the foyer but then I fell and couldn't get back up. That's the last thing I remember." She said sipping the water slowly.
"From what we can tell that is indeed what happened so as long as you aren't experiencing anymore shock symptoms I believe you are perfectly healthy. However, I would like to keep you here for observation since you lost consciousness." He said taking notes on a chart he pulled from the foot of the bed.
"Marie is okay right?" Lex asked.
"Oh yes, she's quite alright I sent her up to sleep off the adrenaline…oh, about six and a half hours ago I think it was." He said without looking up from his notes.
"What time is it now?" She asked curiously.
"It is just after dinner time. Which reminds me if you're hungry I'll have them send someone down with some soup and grilled cheese. It was Storm's turn at cooking this evening so it will undoubtedly be delicious." He said looking up and waiting for her answer.
"That sounds good. How long do you want me to stay?" Lex asked.
"Oh just until the morning should be fine. I need to go take care of some things but I'll send the food down and be back to check on you in a little while." Dr. McCoy promised as he replaced the chart and gave Lex a pat on the shoulder. She smiled up at him and he smiled back before leaving the room.
Hank made his way to the kitchen in search of Lex's promised dinner. Luckily, there was just enough left for him to send down to her unfortunately there were no students to take it. He fixed a plate and filled a bowl placing them both in the microwave. Once they were warmed he took them out and walked back in the direction of the elevator only to find Piotr sitting on a nearby stairwell. Hank smiled to himself. Perfect, he thought to himself.
"Oh Peter could I ask a favor of you?" He called to the boy.
"Of course Ducter McCoy." He said then wrinkled his brow in frustration. "Doc-tor McCoy." Piotr said slowly enunciating each syllable carefully.
"Very good, your English is improving rapidly my friend." Hank said walking over to him. Piotr beamed at the praise and stood up.
"Vhat is it I may help you vith?" Piotr asked.
"Could you please take this food down to the Medbay for Lex? She was passed out through lunch and dinner so my guess is that she will be quite grateful for it." He said. Piotr grew interested at the mention of Lex's name.
"Of course I can do zis for you Doctor. How is Lux? I heard zhat she fainted." Piotr asked taking the dishes and silverware form Dr. McCoy.
"Yes she did however she is awake now and doing fine." He said. "She is confined to Medbay until morning though so I'm sure she would be glad for some company." Hank said and Piotr quickly made his way to the elevators. Hank went up to the office he shared with Ororo chuckling all the way. Ororo was already there, seated at her desk. She quirked an eyebrow when Hank entered.
"What's so funny?" She asked.
"Young love, Ororo, young love." He said taking a seat at his desk and reaching for the large stack of paper in his inbox.
