What's up, everyone. Here's another chapter of Fusionfall: Unknown Universe. Sorry for the long wait, but I had to work on my other stories. However, I'm back and ready to continue, though don't count on updates being fast.
Now to the chapter.
Chapter 12: Cul-de-sac under siege part 4: The final stand.
Running through the Cul-de-sac wasn't an easy task. Everywhere Honey, Rex and Jace went, they encountered some squadron of fusion creatures, mostly Hydro Hammers. The three were able to handle them, but the distance to the third/final section of the Cul-de-sac. The entire place was huge from within and outside since its transformation from an ordinary cul-de-sac to a city.
Ever since then, the city was divided into three parts: Section/Part/Wing A, B and C. So far the three teens were getting closer to Section C of the Cul-de-sac. They could already see its small totems of Planks as they drew closer and entered. However, when they entered, they were immediately surrounded by Urban Ranger with their weapons pointed directly at them.
"Wow, seriously?" Rex snickered, "This is certainly not the hero welcome I expected."
The Urban Rangers didn't drop their ground, almost like they were waiting. The answer to that soon arrived in the form of Double D aka Edd. He walked through the path and saw other three before turning to the Rangers, "Stand down, Rangers. They're here to help."
As ordered, the Urban Rangers stand down and began to walk away one another. Rex only smiled before walking to the genius, "So I'm guessing you're Double D?"
"Indeed I am." Edd nodded, "Now I understand you're here for the orb. Follow me."
Rex watched the genius walk away and remarked, "Well this is a lot easier."
"Don't push it, Rex." Jace shot a stern glare at him.
Rex easily ignored him and followed Edd. Honey and Jace decided to follow and not long they came upon a small suburban house. Edd opened the door and allowed them inside before proceeding to a large computer. Other than the large device, the place resembled a normal living room.
Edd typed on the keys and an image appeared. On the screen was a pink hourglass in a glowing capsule and in a metal room. Honey became curious and walked forward, staring at the screen, "What's that?"
"That is a power reactor." Edd explained, "Through some studies, we've discovered this small reactor could power an entire city or in the fusion's case…"
"An entire fleet." Rex completed, though in horror.
From there, everyone was in a standstill. If what Edd and Rex said was right then Fusions could actually use the reactor to attack an entire town.
"I have to take it away." Rex said boldly, being the first to break the silence.
Though frightened, Edd took a stance against him, "No, you can't."
"Yes, I can. Providence sent me here to carry take this thing away for study. Normally, I'm not always into this thing, but clearly these fusions are here for this thing."
Honey nodded, "Rex's right, but that might not be everything. Think about it, while they're here to take it they could take over Peach Creek along with the Cul-de-sac."
"Besides, I got a plan." Edd intervened. As he said that, he turned back to the computer and began typing on it, "As you know, the reactor has enough power to last for almost infinity and we can use this for our advantage. With the reactor, we can create this." He pressed a final key and the monitor displayed a diagram of a large rod with a satellite dish that created an invisible shield over the entire city.
Once they all saw this, they all beamed with smiles. Edd's plan seems to work and from further explanations it will only affect fusions. Now all they had to do was complete it, but it wasn't going to be easy.
Edd began to explain, "But due to complications, the reactor won't function. So that's where you come in, Rex. With your ability to control machines, you'll have to guide the reactor to the antenna. Can you do this?"
"Of course I can…" Rex smirked, but the ground then shook violently.
Quickly, the group ran outside and found the Urban Rangers shooting at a Hydro Hammer. The fusion tried fighting back, but it was overwhelmed and became nothing, but fusion matter.
"This isn't over." Jace looked up to the sky and gasped, "Fusion Destroyer."
True to his words, the large flying ship hovered above the Cul-de-sac. The group and everyone that stood there gasped as it brought out its cannons, ready to fire. But unlike the others, Rex got over his fear and activated his mechanical fists, "We have to take these guys down."
"We will." Agent Honey said, then turning to Edd, "Right, Edd?"
Edd seem to be in a trance, but came back, "Yes." He turned away from them and called two Urban Rangers. Just as ordered, the Urban Rangers came and stood in respective stance, "Take Rex and…take him to the lower…base so he can commence as plan."
"Yes, sir." The Urban Ranger saluted.
Rex was hesitate, but complied and ran with the Urban Rangers to their destination. Once they left, they fire sounds of blasts and looked up, finding several large balls crashing to the ground. Some of the Urban Rangers began to evacuate civilians to underground shelters while others drew out their weapons and began to open fire.
The large balls formed from goop of fusion matter and shaped into Hydro Hammers and Doom Drone. The fusions growled and began charging at the firing Urban Rangers, commencing a fight. Through the fight, Jace charged while Honey took Edd inside the house.
"You should be safe here. Where's Eddy?"
Edd sighed with a frown, "Before the Fusions attacked, Eddy and I were strolling through the city to ensure the needs of the people. Eddy, being himself, was scamming some of them, but I didn't mind. However, that all changed when the fusions burst through the front gate, destroying it to shreds. They opened fire at everyone, killing some and injuring others. I would have joined the dead, but Edd pushed me aside and fend off the fusions so I could leave. I…I haven't seen him then."
Agent Honey fell silent, from both shock and surprise. Eddy was a lot of things, but he certainly wasn't a hero. If what Edd said was true then Eddy just proved himself. She only hoped he was okay.
"Don't worry, Double D. We'll get him back." Honey assured him.
"Thank you." Edd muttered sadly, "Protect the city, I'll be right back…just need to clear my mind."
Agent Honey nodded, staring at him sadly. She didn't want to think much of it and ran off the door to protect the town. But one thing for sure, she just made a promise to herself. Once they survived the invasion, she'll look for Eddy and bring him back alive no matter the cost.
*******************************************************(LINE BREAK)*******************************************
Jace Wind ran through the field of Fusions, slicing them in his way. The fusions would cry out in pain before turning into fusion matter. The teen was successful, but the numbers were increasing even with the combined power of the Urban Rangers. As the fusions number reduced, Fusion Destroyer shoot down more fusions to aid.
Despite the number, Jace fought them bravely. He swiftly leapt out of a few attack and struck his staff at the fusions, destroying them. The worse were the Doom Drone, mechanical spider fusions. Jace had a tough time with them, dodging their toxic spider webs and constant jumps. If it weren't for Ranger Joey who shot a Doom Drone that tried to sneak from behind he might have ended dead.
Jace silently thanks Joey before rushing back into battle. He jumped into the air and threw his staff forward, making it to sour through three Hydro Hammers in like. Once he touched the ground, he ran to his staff and tried to pick it when a foot steps on it. Confused, he looked up to the face of the fusions and gasp, "No…it can't be."
"Oh it's me." The fusion said. He raised his arm and threw it Jace, sending him flying away. The Fusion picked up the staff and scolded at it, "What a waste of a weapon."
"Take that back!" Jace yelled and charged at the fusion.
The Fusion only smirked and step sideway, avoiding Jace's blow. The fusion dodged another and a fast kick before grabbing his fist with its own hand, "Do you really think you can beat me?" The fusion smirked. Without a warning he knocked his forehead at Jace's, causing him to yelp and stumble back. While he recovered, the fusion continued, "I've heard about you, Jace Wind. How no one takes you seriously. I can't imagine a pathetic human like you. Under all that toughness, you're a lazy and timid."
"No…Yo-you're wrong." Jace Wind shuttered.
"I'm never wrong." The Fusion walked, showing a grin, "I'm Fusion Dexter, boy genius. Just looking at you, I can see that thick armor you try to build, but honestly you're afraid." He took a step forward and Jace step backwards, "See. You're nothing but a weaken kid."
Jace couldn't utter a word to counteract Fusion Dexter. Unfortunately, everything the fusion said was true. Jace had tried to hide it for secret reasons, but now he couldn't.
"Now…" Fusion Dexter raised Jace's staff, "You die by your own weapon."
However, an arrow flew through the air, cutting Fusion Dexter's arm. The Fusion hissed, letting go of the staff and holding its hand in pain. Jace turned from the fusion, still afraid but confuse. He looked behind and found a dark skin teen with a bow and arrow.
"Dude, you okay." The teen asked. Jace only nodded, though shaken from the encounter. The teen could see Jace was easily shaken and step forward, placing a hand on his shoulder, "Maybe you should skip this out."
"You!" Fusion Dexter snarled, his hand already fixed, "Agent Bannon."
"And don't forget Kaden Thunderecho." The teen responsible touched down on the ground, right next to Bannon. He held a sword very similar to Samurai Jack and directed it at the fusion, "Long time no see, fusion."
"Indeed." Fusion Dexter growled. Once his hand formed back to normal, he pushed it into his red lab coat and brought out a large metal wrench, "Now let's end this."
Kaden was the first to advance, cocking a smirk. Fusion Dexter only stood in a stance and swung his wrench in the air, sending a wave blast that hit him and the two other boys to the ground.
"Dude, what was that?" Bannon groaned.
"I don't know…" Kaden held his chest in pain, "But it feels like a truck just hit me."
The teens were used to such pain and felt it go away before getting up to their feet. Fusion Dexter walked forward with his glowing wrench and in a battle stance. Bannon reacted quickly and drew out his arrows before shooting them by his bow at the Fusion. The arrows didn't hit him, but were sliced to bits by his wrench. The fusion released a battle cry and charged at them.
Kaden reacted quickly and charged at him, wielding his sword. Both opponents swung their weapon at each other, resulting to a clash. Fusion Dexter withdrew wrench and jump sideway just to avoid Kaden's blade. His enhanced hearing picked up something coming straight at him and he moved to the right, avoiding three arrows.
Agent Bannon took another arrow and aimed it at the fusion. He cocked a small grin, taunting the fusion, before releasing it. The Fusion as expected swung at it, but then charged at him in a speed of light. The next thing Bannon knew was being hit by a wrench and knocked down on the ground. He looked up and found Fusion Dexter raising his wrench high to strike.
Suddenly, the Fusion jumped backwards, avoiding a lightening blast. Kaden froze in his place to help and glance at the source of the blast. Emerging from a small group of Hydro Hammers, Zoe Razorblade came with her lightening sword releasing small steam.
"Do I really have to save both your butts again?" The seventeen year old raised an eyebrow.
"Hey!" Kaden shouted, offended, "It was only once."
"Yes and you still need me." She said with a deadpan face, "How depressing."
The short discussion ended as Fusion Dexter touched down on the ground right in the middle of them and struck his wrench. His weapon built up a powerful charge that sent a shock into the ground, sending a shockwave all around him. Zoe, Kaden, Bannon and Jace were hit, hitting the ground hard.
Fusion Dexter pulled out his weapon from the ground, "Well isn't this a big surprise. Half of the Gatekeepers here, trying to stop me. Now to complete the set would be Agent Summers and Razorback Sunclaw. Too bad there're still residing in Fusionfall academy."
"How do you know?" Bannon snapped his eyes wide in shock.
"I have sources." The Fusion said proudly.
Zoe gnashed her teeth in slight anger as she got up, "Then we're going to make you tell us!"
"The try me?"
Zoe wielded her sword in both hands, but she wasn't stupid to attack. Fusion Dexter was a tough opponent and what she witness was small amount of his skill. It only met that he was holding back, but what could it be. Fusion Dexter rarely fought into a battle, even doing it himself. Even when he does fight not anyone that encounters him comes back alive.
Zoe watched him skeptically before a thought then came to mind. A feeling told her something was wrong and she turned to Bannon and Kaden who got up and were ready to fight.
"Stand down!"
"What? Why?" Bannon and Kaden said simultaneously.
Zoe sighed, keeping her face in neutral and standing straight, "He's keeping us occupied. Don't you see? Both of you have fought him before, don't you think he isn't fighting us right now."
"So you figured it out." Fusion Dexter chuckled, "I find it odd, considering you aren't the talking type."
"Well it doesn't matter." Jace step forward, sounding confident, "Knowing Rex we've already won this battle."
Just then, a loud humming sound took over the air, attracting everyone's attention. The fusions, Urban Rangers and everyone else watched as a large metal pole rose from the ground, creating a blue shield. It went everywhere, destroying any fusion standing. Fusion Dexter was also affected, but only as pain as he fell to his knees, dropping his wrench.
Jace walked to Fusion Dexter and bent down to his level. He glared at the fusion straight in the eyes and smirked, "Now look who's down to his knees. I may have some issues, but I'm able to control it." The Fusion didn't reply, not that Jace even wanted him to. He stood up straight and glance at the others, "By the way, how did you guys get here."
"We were alerted by Dexter." Zoe answered.
"Once we heard about the invasion, we rushed up our mission and came to help." Kaden explained.
"Maybe both of you did, but not me." Zoe stated, "Dexter's alert came up before I could contribute further to free Megas. I guess he'll just have to stay there for a while longer."
Before any discussion could take, they heard cheering and found the Urban Rangers cheering. With the shield, the fusions were wipe out and soon the entire Cul-de-sac in seconds. The only destructive effect it didn't have was on Fusion Dexter who still was on his knee as the pain ran through his body. Amazingly, he didn't scream, but cringed his teeth.
While the cheers went on, Jace became paranoid as his mind raced through the possibility. This was way too easy that he couldn't believe he was the only one that noticed. Upon everything they went through, including their other friends, why did it seem too easy.
*********************************************(LINE BREAK)********************************
Rex stood in a lower base, a secret base underneath the Cul-de-sac. He watched a screen with a grin as the Urban Rangers cheered and crossed his arms. Not too far from him was the reactor, glowing in activity. If Edd's plan works, then the entire Peach Creek Commons will be cleared of fusions and the battle will be won. Not only that, Fusion Dexter will be arrested and detained, mostly for questioning to find out Fuse's secret.
Though the victory was with them, Rex knew something wasn't right. Fighting Van Kleiss has taught him some things about the enemy. Even though the road to victory was hard, Rex knew better and his suspicion was proven when he heard a strange sound, similar to a portal opening.
"I had a feeling this was too easy." Rex said, still facing the screen. With the grin on his face, he activated his BFS (Big Fat Sword) and spun to his back to face the person, "So you mind showing yourself?"
The person hid in the shadows, but his blue eyes could be shown. Rex could estimate the figure wasn't a fusion, meaning he was either another alien or human. Either way Rex was ready to fight. However, the figure had other plans.
The figure's eyes flashed just as he muttered something. Rex didn't know what the person said, but it made him worry a bit. Suddenly, the figure disappeared from in front of him and behind Rex. Before the hero could do anything, he touched him, sending voltage of electricity into him. Rex screamed and fell to the ground.
With Rex down, the figure walked away and headed for the reactor.
"Well that was easy." The figure said, his voice resembling a teenage boy, "And here I thought Rex would put up a fight. Oh well." He shrugged to himself and pulled the reactor out. Once he did, the entire lower base began to shut down, deactivating the lights and soon the shield itself. With that done, the figure disappeared in a flash of light.
*****************************************************(LINE BREAK)*************************************
Meanwhile, the Urban Rangers were done cheering and began work on the city. With the shield power moving out of the Cul-de-sac, it was only a matter of time before the fusions were done. Already Fusion Destroyer has distance itself from the rising shield.
At the meantime, Fusion Dexter was placed in a metal capsule, which hovered on the ground while he was being taken away to a temporary cell. While that happened, Honey caught up to her former team mates and began to talk with them about the battle. Jace stood with them but remained quiet as the paranoid feeling came up.
Suddenly, all the occupants of the Cul-de-sac heard a swirling sound and looked up to the sky, finding the shield deactivating. They all gasp with fear as they were now exposed to the enemy.
"I knew this will happen." Jace stared frighteningly to the sky.
"How?!" Bannon shifted to Jace, glaring at him, "You knew this all along! Why didn't you say anything?!"
"Well i-i-I…."
"No time for these guys!" Agent Honey interjected, now standing between them, "We have a huge problem that we have to fix."
Bannon nodded, but still kept an angry glare at Jace, "Fine."
"Good." Honey sighed, "Okay, we need to check the lower base and find out why the shield failed. I'll go with Zoe while you and Kaden head to the temporary cell of Fusion Dexter."
"Sheesh, who made her in-charge." Kaden muttered to Zoe.
"I heard that!"
Once he found Honey glaring at him, he smiled sheepishly, too frozen to say anything. To enlighten the feeling, he grabs Bannon and ran off, heading to the temporary cell. Honey wasn't surprise and smiled when he left, "Good."
"So what about me?" Jace spoke in a low voice.
Honey saw the sad look on his face and sighed, "Sorry but…you'll have to stay here, okay?"
"Fine." Jace let out a loud breathe.
Honey felt bad for him, but the time for comfort will have to wait. She and Zoe then went away, leaving Jace to stand by himself.
**************************************************************(LINE BREAK)**************************************
Fusion Dexter stood on a stool, in a normal cell. He could still feel the pain from the shield, but could still smirk. Everything was going to plan.
Suddenly, the pain over his body ceased at once and he felt his strength arise. He stood up from his seat and smirked, "Finally." The two Urban Rangers that stood to guard him heard him and directed their weapons at him. The fusion didn't seem fazed by it, with a plan already formed.
Despite the weapons directed at him, he walked forward to the bar with a sinister grin that could scare. The two male Urban Rangers quivered in fear and opened fire, destroying the bars holding him. Once the weapons ran out of power, they gasped as the cell bar was in pieces and Fusion Dexter stood with no scratches on him.
"Thanks for the assistance."
Without a warning, he dash at them fast and grips them both by the neck. He held them tight and then threw them against the wall, causing the wall and the boys bones to crack.
"Normally, I would have ended both your lives, but I must be going." With that said; he took his wrench as it lay on a wall and walked out the front door. However, once he did, he came face to face with three flying arrows. But like fast reflex, he sliced the arrows in mid-air. He narrowed his eyes forward and found Kaden Thunderecho and Agent Bannon Clawson standing right in front of him with their weapons ready to fight.
"Do both of us a favor and stand down." Kaden smirked, "That or we can fight and you can get your butt whooped."
"Perhaps another time." The Fusion Dexter replied with a sly smile. He took out something from his lab coat and threw it at them, causing a dust cloud. Agent Bannon and Kaden were completely blinded by it and began to cough rapidly. While the going was going, Fusion Dexter ran towards them threw a fast punch at Bannon's jaw and then a roundhouse kick, sending Bannon flying. He then kicked Kaden at the stomach before throwing a punch at his face, sending the teen flying as well.
Fusion Dexter continued running, but encountered a team of Urban Rangers at him. The ranger opened fire and shot rapidly at him. Fusion Dexter didn't seem hesitant and only ran forward, holding his wrench tightly. When the blasts came to him, he swung his wrench rapidly, sending the blasts bouncing randomly anywhere. Some of it hit three of the Urban Ranger, leaving one standing.
The lone Urban Ranger threw down his gun and ran off, shouting he quit. Fusion Dexter snickered from the cowardly act and continued running, this time to an unaware Jace Wind. Before the teen knew it, Fusion Dexter knocked his hand, causing him to drop his staff. He then held his by the collar and brought him to face him face to face.
"Nice work, human. Your assistance worked efficiently than I hope."
"What are you talking about?" Jace said, quivering in fear.
"Don't worry; I'll be sure to thank Fuse for you."
With that done, he pushed Jace to the ground and looked up to the sky. Fusion Destroyer appeared above, casting a large shadow over the entire area. Nobody could do anything but watch in fear as the mighty flying machine towered over them. It shot then a beam at Fusion Dexter and he disappeared in a flash of light. Soon after, Fusion Destroyer flies off away from the city.
Jace Wind panted hysterically, but began to calm down. He was confused by what Fusion Dexter said, considering he wasn't a spy. Despite the thought he got back to his feet, "What was that about?"
"You tell me."
Without warning, Jace was given a blow to the face and fell to the ground. He held his jaw in pain and looked up to see Agent Bannon glaring at him.
"I knew you couldn't be trusted!" Bannon yelled angrily.
"What are you talking about?" Jace asked in confusion and disbelief.
Bannon shot a final glare before turning back, "Take him out of my sight." The Urban Rangers around did as ordered and handcuffed Jace despite how much he struggled. He tried looking around for agent Honey, hoping she'll be there to defend him but she wasn't. The Urban Rangers eventually overpowered him and took him away to a cell.
******************************************************(LINE BREAK)**************************************
Hours passed and Jace couldn't believe what happened. It was all good for him until Fusion Dexter came along and spoke to him like he was a traitor to humanity. Yes, he figured out Fusion Dexter's plan, but couldn't figure out why. Jace wasn't a gatekeeper, though as a friend of Agent Honey was the only thing. It still didn't make any sense, but he couldn't break out and find out. His Nanocom was confiscated along with his weapons until further notice.
Jace was snapped out of his thought as someone walk to the cell door. It wasn't a guard, but someone he had hoped to see.
"Agent Honey." Jace ran to the door, "I'm so glad you're here. Please you've got to believe me. I'm innocent."
"I believe you." Agent Honey said nicely.
"Great so you can get Bannon to release me, right?" Jace beamed with a smile and hope.
"No…" Agent Honey sighed sadly, "You've already been sentence to trial by the guides."
"WHAT? WHY? I'm innocent! I'm not a traitor!"
"I know and I believe and so does Rex. According to him, it wouldn't be you since you are weaker."
"Hey!"
Honey still continued, "Anyway, Rex and I will try to get evidence about your innocence before the trial."
"Okay." Jace slumped down to the ground, but smiled at her, "Thanks. I owe you one. So how is Peach Creek holding out, were the fusions defeated?"
Honey nodded, but this time with a serious look, "We did but not the way we thought we will. Once Fusiobn Dexter left, the fusions retreated from the fight. They didn't poison the land or anything."
"So you think there's more to this."
"Yes." She nodded again, "Maybe, it's time my friends and I should regroup. Perhaps, it's time for the Gatekeepers to have a reunion."
*******************************************************(LINE BREAK)***********************************************
So that's where I'm stopping for now. Updates won't come much since I'll be preparing for a major exam that will take place a few months. I'll try to update the next chapter, but it isn't a promise. The next chapter will return back to Fusionfall academy. Also, I want to apologize to Crazed King for what I did to her OC and hopes she isn't mad.
Anyway, I've set up a poll for an Avengers fanfic. Unlike the avengers cartoon and movie, this is based off from different cartoon characters from different shows. These characters are Danny Phantom, Kim Possible, Superboy, Violet (from the incredible), Starfire (from teen titans), Ben 10 (from Omniverse) and Jake Long (from American Dragon). It's a massive crossover that will also feature some cartoon characters. The poll is up for voting the leader for the team. So go vote for your favorite or the one you think is suitable as a leader.
Until next time, please review, I would like to know your thoughts on this. No flames. I am sorry for any grammatical error in this chapter.
