Hiccup groaned as he slowly woke up. He felt like he had been sleeping for days. He peered around the room once he managed to get his eyes open and saw his father and Felix working at the table.
But the Jolly Giants were meant to visit for another couple months.
"Dad" Hiccup called as he sat up in bed, he couldn't seem to get his left leg to work properly so he just dragged that up, and come to think of it, since when did he sleep downstairs.
"Hiccup?" his Dad sounded thankful to see him, but he didn't he normally hide in shame. Stoick ran over to Hiccup and placed both hands on his son's face. He looked right into Hiccup's face.
"What do you remember?" he asked.
"Well, I remember about to enter the ring, then ... er... I managed to calm the Nightmare down ... er... and you attacked and then he attacked, then TOOTHLESS? Dad, what's going on?" Hiccup asked, staring at his Dad wide eyed.
Toothless was sleeping on the face next to Hiccup's bed, just out of Hiccup's sight as he fell asleep at the side away from Stoick. He got up when he heard Hiccup yell his name and, seeing that Hiccup was awake, pushed his face onto that of his riders.
"Toothless" muttered Hiccup as he pulled the reptiles head close to his own. He hugged the scaly dragon as close to himself as humanly possible.
"Son" Stoick said and Toothless pulled himself away.
"What happened, Dad?" asked Hiccup, looking at his Dad.
"Erm, you really don't remember?" asked Stoick. Felix just stood to the side.
"No, sorry Dad, what happened?" Hiccup demanded. Stoick took a deep breath and pulled back the covers. Hiccup's entre body froze. Memories flashed before his eyes of his father disowning him. Of his father taking Toothless to the nest. Of Astrid talking to him. Of his taking going to the training ring. Of him training the teens to ride dragons. Of him and the other teens flying to the nest. Of him saving everyone and then him and Toothless being knocked from the sky. Then black. Just plain black.
"How long?" asked Hiccup in barely a whisper.
"Hiccup?" asked Stoick, leaning towards his son.
"How long has it been?" asked Hiccup, staring at his foot.
"A few months, you've kept waking up though, muttering things and such" said Stoick and he pulled Hiccup toward him.
In a rare hug that would hopefully stop being rare.
