A sticky situation
It was probably for the best that I had forgotten the dream. Thanks to the succubus, My hangover that was probably due to me did not plague my morning. So all in all I had not lost or gained anything, except for the coupon, which kinda sucked that I didn't have it anymore. I was currently reading some more potion recipes, and the rest of my party were enjoying breakfast. Colby and Autumn were feeding each other pancakes, Megumin was trying not to vomit at the display of affection, and Darkness was cooking. The sound of Autumn and Colby googling over each other was actually quite distraction.
"Do the have to do that at the dinner table?" Megumin asked annoyed. Colby seemed ready to speak, but I spoke first.
"Ya know, I'm gonna side with Megumin, and say that if your gonna do that, wait until we're gone or something." I tell them, and the look at me, and then seem to contemplate my words.
"Did you just agree with me on something like this?" Megumin asked.
"Yes, yes I did."
"Alright fine." Colby submitted, and They both started eating normally. "But if you guys ever get in a relationship with someone, you better not do it too!" Autumn seemed content to just eat her breakfast in peace.
"I don't think you need to worry about that." Megumin said dryly, before continuing to eat her breakfast. Then Darkness came over with a cooking apron on over her usual sleeping attire. He had a plate of breakfast for herself, but a cup of a steaming liquid, which was odd, because she already had a drink on the table.
"Here you go." Darkness said to me, before putting the cup of steaming liquid, which was coffee, on the table in front of me. "I figured after so much to drink last night, you might need something to ease your hangover." I looked at her with a raised brow.
"What made you think I had a hangover? I'm fine, but I appreciate the coffee." At my words, Darkness looked at me surprised.
"Truly? You must have a hearty stomach then, truly impressive!" Darkness praised, and I tried not to snicker, knowing it was due to the succubus I wasn't dying from a migraine. Darkness looked at me with interest, as I sipped on my coffee. She kept staring, even as she ate, it was starting to creep me out a bit. However it was strangely intriguing as well.
"Darkness are you going to keep staring at me?" I asked, and her face lit up with a blush, and she suddenly found her food very interesting. It was really cute how she would do that kind of thing, and try to hide her feelings and interest in me. I wondered if I should ever tell her of my mutual feelings. Maybe one day, but at the moment I was content to remain a bachelor. We continued to eat our breakfast in peace. Eventually Colby and Autumn finished, and Megumin did the same not to long after. They were all going to train out where we would normally take Megumin training. Meanwhile me and Darkness would stay in town or at the house, it would likely take some time for the lady from the capital to arrive here. I was going to stay here and work on my weapon collection, I wasn't sure what Darkness was going to do.
I went to the blacksmith area in the backyard, and I examined the rest of the maleice in the shop. While my armor had taken a lot of the maleice from the winter samurai, there was still a bit of maleice I could use for weapons. The first of which would be a broadsword to replace my old bronze sword. Maybe the next item I make will be a longsword or something. I grabbed one of the extra pieces of maleice, and began heating it int the forge. Once the metal was at an appropriate temperature, I brought it to my anvil, where I began to hammer ti into shape. I had to hammer off some of the pieces as the piece was too big for the size of broadsword I wanted. The extra pieces that were now on the ground would be used elsewhere. I folded the metal multiple times, reheating it constantly, and reshaping it every now and again.
I continued to hammer the metal into the general shape of a double edged blade. I quenched the metal, letting it cool In the barrel of water. Steam bellowed from the blade, and I sighed at my handiwork. Even now I was still impressed with my handiwork. I wiped the sweat from my brow, the heat of the forge having the expected effect. I noticed Darkness approaching from the house, and wave to her. Once close enough she looks at me kindly before handing me a damp towel.
"Thank you Darkness, thats very sweet of you. Whats the occasion?" I ask her, and she blushes at the compliment.
"Well, I saw you were out here by the forge, and figured you might need something to cool you down with." Darkness said earnestly. I smiled at her, and she looked at the barrel of water where my sword was still resting. "Is this your new sword?"
"Yes, Its made out of maleice, just like my armor, it should serve me well in the future." I respond, using the towel she had given me to wipe my brow. I take the pliers I had been using, and take the sword out of the barrel, revealing it's sleek shape, and it's shiny light blue color. I put the sword on one of the tables I had, and begin designing an appropriate grip and guard on a large piece of paper on the table. Darkness watched In interest, curious to how I made my weapons.
"Do you deign it all from scratch?" Darkness asked curiously.
"Not entirely, Most of them I need to first make sure it will fit in my hand comfortably, function over form sorta thing. Then after that, I can worry about the guard and pommel. I don't think I'm going to do anything super fancy with this one. Maybe I'll make the guard a little wider for more protection, but other than that, sometimes simple can be beautiful." After my explanation, Darkness looked intrigued with what I was drawing. "I think the next thing I'll make will be a longsword or maybe a spear."
"You certainly keep yourself busy, do you think we could spar later today?" Darkness asked hopefully, and I smirked, as I had predicted she would ask such.
"Sure, let me do a fe more things, and then we can spar." At my words, Darkness had a determined look on her fcae.
"Alright, this time, I'm going to get some hits in!" She says with enthusiasm, to which I chuckle a bit at her excitement. "Don't laugh at me!" She says offendedly.
"I'm laughing at you, well not technically, its just your enthusiasm is a little entertaining, thats all." Darkness looks a little less offended at my words now. Then she gives me a gentle smile.
"Well, its because after every sparring match with you, I can tell I'm getting a little better each time." This time it was my turn to blush.
"Alright, don't get all sappy on me, or I might change my mind." I say defensively. I face the table to continue working, when I feel Darkness's arms wrap around me from my left side.
"Thank you Danny, truly." Darkness said while hugging me. I could feel her boobs press against my arm and shoulder, and the warmth of her body being so close. She lets go, and leaves the forge to back to the house without another word, leaving me to myself.
"Damn, she's making it hard to hold back." I continue to work, but with a perverse thought at the back of my head.
It had been a few days since the destroyer incident, and I had completed my new broadsword, and had nearly completed my longsword. Earlier Colby had alerted me that someone from the capital needed to see me. Which was unsurprising, although I had not expected them to arrive so soon. So now me and my party were standing in front of an official from the capital, and her two bodyguards. We were all in full adventurers garb, and stood directly across from the people from the capital. Adventurers were on ether side of us, looking on in anticipation of what the newcomers had to say.
"You are Danny Davis, correct?" The woman asked in an authoritarian manner. She adjusted the glasses on her nose slightly, causing her suit-dress to shuffle a bit. It looked to be made of dark blue fabric, and had an eerily similar look to prosecutes suits. Her long black straight hair complimented her serious expression. She was rockin a pretty nice C cup, at least.
"Yes, thats me. I assume your the official from the capital?" I ask, walking a little forward, making sure I was in front of my party. Then something struck me, This lady was supposed to be the royal prosecutor, if memory serves me correctly. So why the hell was she here!?
"I have been ordered to deliver the reward fro defeating the Destroyer, and also investigate the area, and its people for potential Devil King army collusion." After her announcement the entire guild fell into silence. While I was thankful I was not under personal investigation, why were there suspicions of collusions? Perhaps It had something to do with all the activity, or maybe the Dullahan's appearance? If that was the case, then why had they not sent an investigator sooner?
"Collusion? Here? You can't be serious, we all fought against both the destroyer and the Dullahan, why would someone suspect collusion?" At my words the rest of the adventurers nodded in concern, and confusion.
"Its not necessarily the adventurers that need to be investigated, but anyone that might hav a connection to the Devil King. You see, many in the capital have heard of what has been transpiring here lately, and believe it could be that someone with connections to the army is luring powerful enemies here. Although it is a theory, the believed it enough to send me. My name is Sena by the way." Now it made sense, kinda, still it seemed a little overkill. Plus I don't remember this ever happening in the anime, although given her appearance, and the fact that the destroyer is gone, means that we are officially in the second season train of events.
"Ah, I see, I guess that makes sense then. So what about that reward you talked about?" I asked, a little more greedier sounding than I'd like.
"Yes, of course. You and your party's reward for defeating the mobile fortress, The Destroyer, have been awarded with seven hundred million Eris." I think my heart skipped a beat. With that much money, we nearly had a billion Eris! Of course our daily expenses and such had dug into our fortune, but now I doubted we ever had to worry about money again! "I apologize if the reward is underwhelming, but we had never expected the destroyer to be defeated before. So this was the most we could give, since other bounties have their rewards stored until the bounty is collected." I see what she meant, since the Destroyer was nearly unbeatable, the had never put a bounty on it, and this total was all the could really afford to to give up at the time, makes sense.
"Well, uh, Thank you anyway, I think that reward will suffice just fine." At my words, the other adventurers, including my own party members continue to gawk at the reward that was just given. Colby comes up to me, and whispers.
"Did you know this was going to happen?" He asked, surprisingly calmly, and I whisper back.
"Not really, something completely different happened in the anime." He nods, and goes back to the party, who is still frozen in shock.
"Just how rich are you guys now!?" Dust suddenly exclaims from the crowd. Apparently him and his party were also there. Chris came up from the crowd, and slapped my back, although I couldn't feel it through my armor.
"Looks like you can treat all of us to a few drinks eh?" Chris said teasingly. While I hadn't spent as much time with Chris as Colby had, I had still grown fond of the goddess. Yea, I knew Chris was Eris, although I had not told anyone yet. I put an armored arm around her in a friendly nature.
"I guess your right, after all, It wasn't just me and mine that took down that Destroyer. A round of drinks on me!" At my words the adventurers all cheered, shocking Sena a bit. We all sat down and had a few rounds, I even allowed Megumin to have a few sips. Much to Darkness's chagrin.
"So what are we going to do now?" Autumn asked, while sipping on a mug. I looked at her curiously, my helmet under the table, allowing her to see my face. We were all sitting at our usual table, with me and Darkness on one side, and Autumn, Colby, and Megumin on the other.
"What do you mean?" I asked her. Colby also looked at her curiously, wondering what his girlfriend was talking about. Darkness and Megumin also looked curious.
"Well, we're really rich right? So whats to stop all of us just settling down somewhere, or just stop adventuring?" She made a good point, as we could in theory just stop adventuring, and probably be fine for the rest of our lives, but the capitalist in me said we should strive for more.
"What!? We can't stop adventuring! Theres still so much to do!" Darkness exclaims almost in desperation. Megumin hums in agreement with Darkness as she chomped down on a piece of meat.
"I never said we would, Autumn's the one that suggested it." I reaffirm. Autumn shrinks a little at the spotlight being thrown to her so suddenly.
"Well, its just that my mother always wanted me to settle down one day, and start a family." Autumn says, and Colby does a spit take. "Well, Maybe not right now, but if we wanted to do it, we could." I shake my head.
"I agree with you, I think we all want to settle down one day, but for right now we should continue adventuring. Who knows what kind of good we could do if we keep adventuring." At this, my party gets a little more enthusiastic about our situation. "Plus, there are plenty of things we could do with our money in the meantime."
"Yea, I wonder what adventure we could do next?" Colby asked aloud, and Darkness spoke up.
"Why don't we go kill that manticore! We should be plenty powerful enough." Darkness suggests, and Colby visibly flinches.
"Uh, maybe later, how about something else?" Colby asked again.
"Why don't we try to kill that band of orcs!" Megumin suggested, she was referring to a band of large orcs that had been terrorizing the surrounding area of axel. They had routinely bested entire party's of adventurers, often beating the male adventurers to death, or close to it, and then...having their way with the females. Needless to say that was a quest that would have to be addressed soon. Darkness's face immediately flushed up, remembering the description of the attacks.
"Even better! We need to save those girls from their fates! Undoubtedly they've been taken to the orc's layer as breeders! We should go rescue them!" Darkness exclaimed rather excitedly, unfortunately, Darkness had a wide knowledge of various monster types, and their behaviors, meaning that she knew how orcs operated, and what we would be getting into. Which was both good...and bad.
"I have a better Idea." I say, and my party looks at me curiously.
"This was a better Idea?" Megumin asked sarcastically, as we walked through a grave yard. The place we were going to was an abandoned mansion that was supposedly owned by some scientist. However after his passing away a lot of his experiments escaped, notably, his experiments were centered around one creature. Slimes.
"Yes, it's much safer than the other two suggestions." I say confidently. My armor clanged as we continued to walk, and Colby scanned the area, watching for threats. "Hey Colby, why don't you go on ahead, and tell us whats on the bottom floor." I suggest to my friend, and he nods with confidence. He runs off to the mansion ahead of us, and Autumn sighs wistfully, obviously transfixed by his speed. Megumin mock vomits.
"So what kind of slimes do you think we will encounter in there?" Darkness asked eagerly, panting slightly just from the thought. I looked at her, my helmet masking my smirk.
"I thought you were supposed to be the resident monster expert I've picked up a bit, but you should know the most." At my words, Darkness blushes from the compliment.
"W-Well, I wouldn't say that I'm an expert, but I suppose I might have a few insights into monsters." A few being and understatement. "However, being that this scientist brought these slimes from nature here, who knows what kind of slimes we could be dealing with." Darkness got a bit more serious when she said that. She has a point, for all we knew, he could have more than just slimes in there, perhaps slimes were just one part of any kind of experiments he did there. It was a good thing I had completed both my longsword and my new maleice spear. I had my longsword and broadsword on my left hip, and my spear across my back, where I could easily equip it. Although because of it's length it would be awkward, perhaps there was a way to condense it? As I began brainstorming, I also spotted Colby returning to us.
"The entire first room is covered in green slimes!" Colby exclaimed in surprise as he reached us. Autumn and Megumin seemed to get more concerned about our current quest, while Darkness got a bit excited. I looked at him in suspicion, were slimes really dangerous or something? In all my reading, the most dangerous slimes that were around here could be killed by even low level adventurers. Unless there was something I missed?
"Ok, and?" I ask suspiciously.
"Green slimes are very infamous." Darkness began. "You see they have a slight acidity that can eat through clothes, while not enough to actually hurt people, it has left many a adventurers without clothing." Darkness then began panting, imagining the slimes eating away at her dress, most likely.
"I see, well then Autumn, you and Megumin hand back, I'll take the lead since he majority of what I'm wearing is just maleice instead of actual clothing. My weapons should be enough to clear the first room at least." My party nodded, except for Darkness.
"I can help too! I have a lot of armor n as well, it would be difficult for them to tear away at my dress." I thought about it for a sec, but nodded towards her. While her masochistic tendencies were a tad too much, she was right, and she might be able to actually help out with clearing the room. We have been training a lot after all.
I gently open the door to the mansion. Darkness following me, and true to Colby's word, the entirety of the first room was covered in small green slimes, roughly the size of basketballs. One looks toward me, and starts squirming toward me, it's lighter green eyes looking at me. I impale my sword into the top of it, and the slime melts around my sword. Darkness swings low, and actually bisects several of the slimes at once. She manages to repeat this again, as I come up beside her, and slash into the slimes as well.
"D-Danny! I can actually hit them, look look!" Darkness exclaims excitedly.
"Yea, I see, now keep it up, we still a few more to take care of." I say, slicing through another five, using my longsword for the greater reach, and wider swings. Colby Autumn and Megumin follow, obviously impressed with our performance, more so surprised at Darkness's ability to hit the damn things. Truthfully I was actually proud of her, but it was way overdue, especially because of all the training we had been doing. We kept slicing through the slimes, and managed to clear the room, although the slime's residue, or corpse, was still all over the place. The room that was once covered in live slimes appeared to be some kind of welcoming room, with some chairs, and a small couch. While it was all now covered in slime, the chairs and couch seemed to be of good quality. There were three doorways connected to the room, one to the right, one to the left, and one straight ahead. The one to the right was open, while the other two were closed, but didn't appear to be locked or boarded.
"So where to now?" Megumin asked as she observed the room with slight disgust.
"I say we explore the bottom floors first." I say, and They nod in affirmation. "Lets start with the right." I say as I head toward the open door. My party follows me, with Megumin and Autumn staying at the back. The room to the right was a large kitchen, and several parts were covered in what appeared to be blue slime residue. I also saw darker blue orbs that were on larger piles of the blue slime. "What does blue slime mean?" I asked aloud.
"It depends." Darkness began. "The most common slimes are blue, meaning they focus on killing by either sheer weight or by drowning their foes. Obviously, these wren't the greatest methods of killing. So they are the easiest the kill, but some blue slimes began getting smarter, and replicated the shape of the female body to lure male adventurers to their doom. While the couldn't change their body's color, their sheer voluptuousness was enough to prove their strategy successful. So they became known as slime girls." Darkness finished with a satisfied look on her face, as if she had accomplished something great.
"You mean like them?" Colby asked, and Darkness took note of the piles of slime once again, to see they had formed into the bodies of three beautiful women. Apparently during her little lecture, the slime girls had found that as the good opportunity to take shape. Each one of them had perfect proportions, wide hips, a cute face, and at least D cups each. They eyed both me and Colby lustfully, and even though I knew they wanted to kill me, I couldn't help but blush under my helmet. Colby also seemed to pause when he saw them, making Autumn extremely jealous. I held my shield up, and used my 'Shield Throw' ability. Thanks to my upgrading, the 'Throw Shield' ability was now a level higher, not to mention the fact I was using a much better shield as well.
Blue magical energy surrounded my shield, and I flung it, the disk effortlessly slicing through all three of the slime girls. Their corpses slide down into piles of lifeless slime. While I would have loved to behold the sight of the slimes for a while longer, I didn't want to be on the receiving end of one of their attacks. If they got in between the cracks in my armor, and tried to drown me within my own armor, I would be good as dead. I moved forward towards a door at the end, and opened it. It led to a dining room, that was surprisingly clean, and other than the valuable looking silverware and such on the table, it was relatively empty.
"So we keep going?" Darkness asked me as she came up from behind, and I nod silently. We trekked the rest of the bottom floor, the left side of the floor having lots of slime residue of both blue and green slimes. The center of the floor was the stairway, and we headed up to the second level. Immediately I noticed that it was much cleaner on the second level, but I also noticed that in front of the staircase, there was a hallway with several armless stone statues of busty women. I walked down the hallway, not caring for any other areas of exploration. My party followed me, but Colby and Megumin had annoyed looks on their faces when they noticed the busts.
"What was this scientist doing?" I asked myself as I walked through the corridor. I had almost walked passed the busts. They weren't lined up all the way down the corridor, but instead were only lined up mid way through. Something stopped me though, specifically it was movement I saw.
"Hmm? What was that?" Autumn asked as she looked around, apparently she had seen movement too. Thats when one of the busts caught my attention, it seemed as though one of the bust's breasts moved a bit. I reached doubt my hand, and poked my finger into the boob. Instead of a stone material, my finger pressed into a soft material.
"D-Danny!? What are you doing!?" Darkness exclaimed at my actions. Then she realized what happened with the breast, and she seemed to pause for a bit.
"Is it supposed to do that?" I asked no one in particular. Then the breast I had poked suddenly dropped to the ground, turning from a stone grey to a light pink. "Pink slimes? What do the do?"
"Pink slimes are the most docile of slimes, they are able to blend in to to different environments, and mostly stay to themselves if they are able to. However I have no idea why there are ones disguising themselves as breasts." Darkness admitted. The slime that had fallen squirmed its way back up the statue, to it's chest, and once again took the form of a woman's bosom. I began to wonder just what was going on around this mansion. Colby poked another boob, and once again a slime popped off the statue. We started to continue as I imagined what exactly the scientist's goals were in experimenting and capturing these slimes.
"Hey, look." Colby said suddenly, bringing my attention to where he was looking, which was a standard wooden door, with a special bronze knocker that I had not seen on any other door anywhere else in the house. "I haven't seen this before, think we should check it out?" He asked, and I nodded. He opened the door, and saw the inside to be some kind of office area. It had a large desk, an open area towards the back of the room, and several flasks lining a rectangular table lined up against the wall parallel to the hallway. The flasks I recognized as alchemy flasks, and there were small cookers, and ingredients lined a shelf above the same table. I approached the desk where I saw a blue notebook, and I opened it to find the notes of the deceased scientist.
'Progress has been slow, it appears that the pink slimes do not seem interested in coloring based off of items they have seen before.' I began reading. 'Although I'm hoping that getting some slime girls, and mixing their DNA might be able to increase their intelligence.' I flipped through the book some more, looking for more relevant notes. I approached the end, and began to read a random page. 'So far the DNA mixing of different slimes is not working well, I've used the DNA of over forty different slimes around the area. With Slime girls being the most intelligent of slime species, its been difficult to increase slime intelligence with just slime girl DNA. The mixture between slime girl and pink slime DNA has been fruitful, but the green slime's acidity has made it difficult to mix their DNA with others. The green slime's cleverness I though might have been helpful, but ultimately it was a waste of time. If only I could get rid of all the green slimes I caught.' Well, that explains the first room. 'The problem of increasing the slime's intelligence will plague me, however there is one other solution I've thought of. Risky as it is.' that page ended, and the following pages had diagrams, and measurements written down all over. Several of the ingredients I did not recognize, and the equipment on the other table looked complicated and expensive. I admired this scientist's resolution in whatever he was doing.
My companions were exploring the rest of the office, but seemed uninterested in most of what was in the room. What I was really wondering was how he was mixing slime DNA and making new slimes from it. There was nothing in the room aside from normal alchemy equipment, perhaps it had a lot to do with magic. That seemed like the most likely answer.
'I think my solution to the intelligence has been found. Human DNA. Humans are some of the smartest beings in the world.' No shit Sherlock. 'My own should work just fine, but the problem will be isolating the gene associated with brain functionality and intelligence. Another problem I could imagine is that of the brain forming within the slime, which given slime's transparency would be very disturbing. What I imagine might be optimal would be to make the slime's body itself act as the brain, that way it wouldn't need to form any kind of organs, and would not need to sacrifice anything.' The next diagram was of what I assumed was the mixture of blue and pink slime DNA. It was shaped like the slime girls, but it was nowhere near as gooey looking. The slime girls looked as if the were in a constant sate of melting, while still beautiful, the legs, and back of the slime often seemed to remain in a slime from, just being a heap of goo. The pink slime girl was in the perfect shape of a busty and attractive women. There was a note next to it, explaining that it had to be shown a drawing of a women the scientist made in order to be in this form. I continued to read several pages later, and I noticed that the rest of the notebook after this last one were blank.
'I managed to do it! It has taken me decades, and this is the fourth notebook Ive needed for all my notes, but I did it! I made the ideal slime waifu!' I wondered briefly where the other notebooks were, but also wondered how the hell this guy knew what a waifu was. I then realized that this scientist was also a reborn person from earth. 'The slime's intelligence is now comparable to that of a child, but she has been learning quickly, plus she has taken to like the small pond in the backyard. Her body is much pinker than normal pink slimes, most likely due to the brain cell adaption to her body. She is also able to shape her body in any way she desires, be that of a normal slime, a slime girl, myself, or the same womanly drawing I made a while back, which she has become quite fond of. She is also able to shape her body to appear to be wearing clothes, and is able to color her body in any way she likes, thanks to the pink slime DNA within her. I asked her how she shaped and colored herself, and she described it as simply moving. Which I would assume would be like muscle movement to us. Truly fascinating. I must leave for supplies, hopefully no one comes when I am gone. Oh and her name is Phylia, I must write that down, lest I forget.' Then the notes ended, and I assumed this was the last thing he wrote before he died. So an intelligent slime girl that was able to change her shape and color at will, and was probably still waiting for her creator to return. And we just broke into the house she lived in, and killed most of the other slime inhabitants...Great.
I walked over to the window on the far wall, and looked out at the yard. I saw a large pond with a few trees around it, and noticed that there was a pink figure sitting by the body of water. My heart skipped a beat as I realized that the figure was probably the same slime that was described in the notes.
"Hey, lets head back down, I think we're just about done with this quest." I tell my companions, and they look at me slightly confused. We head back down the staircase, and I lead them to the pond in the back of the property. As we approach, my companions notice the pink figure sitting by the water. It looked as though she had long robes on, with trimming, and layers all different shades of pink. The figure looked back, revealing a cute young face, that undoubtedly belonged to a slime girl. Colby drew his swords, and stepped forward.
"I'll get this one, don't worry about it." He reassured us, and proceeded to dash forward, intent to take the slime girl out.
"Wait!" I called out, and thankfully Colby stopped, and looked back at me. Before I could explain my reasoning, the slime girl seemed to notice our presence fully, and she stood up to look at us with a smile. She had very attractive features, and at least good sized D cups. We continued to approach, albeit cautiously. The slime girl's smile didn't waver, and she actually skipped the rest of the way, meeting us halfway. We looked at the slime girl with blank expressions, and she continued to give us a welcoming smile. "Um, hello?" I asked tentatively.
"Hello! You must be adventurers right?" She asked hopefully, to which we all nodded. Her voice sounded as if she was somewhat underwater, but not enough that it was overly annoying. "Great! You must be here about master then!" We looked at her with confused expressions, except for me, I just looked at her with pity from under my helmet.
"Um, are you a slime girl? Then how can you talk?" Autumn asked the girl, and the slime seemed more than happy to answer.
"Yes! You see master made me by combing different slimes together using a special spell he could use. After a lot of experimenting, he finally made me, a sentient, intelligent slime girl! Oh, where are my manners? My name is Phylia, what are your names?" The rest of my party was still in shock at Phylia's intelligence and ability to talk. So I guess I'm going to have to introduce my party for her.
"Well my name is Danny, and this is my party, Colby, Darkness, Autumn, and Megumin. We're adventuers and we were tasked with investigating this mansion because of an abnormal level of slimes coming from it." After my explanation, Phylia deflated slightly, but still had a smile on her face.
"Well, then perhaps you have heard of my master? He said he was quite famous with the locals in town." I nodded and she appeared to get very hopeful. The rest of my party seemed to get over their initial shock. Colby, seeming to recognize the kind of situation this was, had a sorrowful look on his face. The same could be said with Darkness and Megumin as well. Autumn seemed not to notice, awaiting the next words.
"He was the owner of this mansion, after his passing a lot of monsters were reported coming from here, suggesting his experiments escaped." The slime girl's smile vanished
"P-Passing?" Phylia asked, beginning to tear up.
"Yes, your master died while he was out shopping. I'm truly sorry." I say calmly, attempting to ease her mind. It didn't work. Light pink tears began falling down her face, and she attempted to hide her sobs. Autumn noticed this, and immediately went to comfort the slime girl. She grabbed Phylia's hand, and the slime girl began to fully sob, her feelings getting the better of her. She seemed to calm down a bit, and faced me.
"I-I suppose I should have e-expected that. It's been a l-long time s-since he left." She began to sob again as memories of the last time she was with her master resurfaced. At least that why I think she had started to cry again.
"Hey, it's ok, cry all you need to." Autumn whispered, and Phylia took her up on the offer. Autumn embraced Phylia In a thoughtful hug. Darkness and Megumin seemed to be slightly uncomfortable, and the same could be said for me and Colby. Colby leaned over in order to whisper to me.
"What do we do now? We killed a lot of the slimes, but what about her?" Colby asked me, and pointed toward Phylia.
"We should just leave her." Darkness butted in, obviously hearing Colby's question. "We've completed the quest, and she doesn't seem to be any kind of threat. So we leave her alone." I was a little shocked at Darkness's comment, but at the same time couldn't really blame her, I would be pretty cautious too with what appears to be the only non hostile slime in the world.
"I think I'm ok now." Phylia said as Autumn released her. "I suppose I should thank you all for at least letting me know. I just don't really know what I'll do now, there's no reason for me to stay here anymore. Without master, this house just isn't a home." I could completely understand that, when someone important in your life does, or even a pet, it can change a person's life. I felt bad for the poor girl, and there was no way she could live on her own an interact with most people, because they would see her as a monster and nothing more. At least I can assume that's what would happen.
"Well what If you came with us?" I ask suddenly to everyone's, including my own surprise.
"r-really!?" Phylia asked, making sure that I wasn't joking, and with hope in her eyes. While it could be seen as irresponsible to take in a stranger I had little to know knowledge about, I didn't care at the moment. We had plenty of money for any needs she may require, plus as a Christian I couldn't just leave someone like this without doing something to help them. In this case it would be best to just let her stay with us. If she went out into the wild she could be killed by monsters, if she attempted to go to town without an escort, she would also be killed. Finally If she stayed here she would not only be bored to tears, but if the property is redeemed or sold, or whatever, she would probably be killed by people anyway. Nevertheless this was probably the best option.
"Well yes, I can't just leave you here, someone else might come and try to hurt you. Or better yet a monster might as well." I say, and her eyes light up as a gleeful smile is plastered across her face.
"Oh thank you thank you thank you!" She yelled, and hugged me, I laughed nervously. We soon made our way back to axel with our new friend in tow.
"Are you sure about this?" Darkness whispered cautiously. "What if she's using you, and she's just going to attempt to kill you later?" Autumn and Phylia we're talking in the back, while Megumin complained to Colby how she never got to use her explosion magic.
"Yes I am, don't worry, I'm sure she'll fit right in."
Author's notes
Sorry it took so long, but I finally got this chapter up. My computer has once again been experiencing technical difficulties, and while I could use a keyboard shortcut, it would make writing anything a real pain.
Anyways, yea a new member to our little group. A slime girl no less. I thought it might be good to add another element to the story, and don't worry I'll expand on her in the next chapter. The next thing I'll post will be a chapter of blood seeketh blades, a crossover fic between Akame ga kill and Dark Souls. If you want to, check it out!
Constructive criticism is welcome, I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and as always...
Thanks for reading!
