Hello, my lovely readers. Welcome back. If you have missed Klaus' centric chapters as much as I have. Please, read the A/N at the end of the chapter. Please, vote in Hypable's poll for Klaroline. The last time I checked Klaroline has 48 % to the other couple's 52%, voting ends at 12 tonight. On with the show…
Chapter 12: How to be a good Host
Striding through the halls of his resort Klaus Mikaelson took pride in the manner in which his business was turning out. He had never run a business in all his many years on the earth and if he was honest he had been afraid that it would be a miserable flop. Then again the place was only constructed to provide Caroline with the knowledge of his desire to fulfill her dreams whatever they may be.
Peering into one of the rooms Klaus' eyebrows rose to find the mothers or mother figures of the young Mystic Falls set gathered together. Smiling to himself he started to continue on his merry way. Far be it for him to disturb the women's period of relaxation before they returned to the stress of unsatisfying human existences and dealing with their spawns inability to stay out of trouble. Then he heard someone calling him back.
Feeling odd that one of these women wanted his attention because for the most part they had tried to avoid him at all costs Klaus whirled on his heel. "Yes, Miss Sommers, what can I do for you?"
Jenna was holding her hands together and looking a little frightened as she walked closer to him. Klaus smiled down at her and laced his fingers behind his back attempting to look less intimidating in spite of it being against his nature. "I was wondering if you could do me a favor?" Jenna whispered to Klaus and he nodded.
"Yes, please feel free to ask me. After all you are a guest," Klaus replied his eyes sparkling with amusement as Jenna blushed.
Opening her mouth and then laughing to herself Jenna sighed. "I'm trying to give Elena and Jeremy this impression that I'm like this adult figure who is responsible and stuff but who am I kidding? I'm like twenty-two when these teenagers are thrown into my lap. And it's like my life is supposed to be over. I mean can you imagine trying to work on your graduate studies and then someone's like 'Here, take these kids.' Why should I even consider trying to act like my old self? It's preposterous. Right?"
Klaus tried to control his temper as he forced the smile to stay in place. "Miss Sommers, is there a point in all of this? I do not mean to be rude but there are many things that I have to attend to as I am running this place…" Klaus gestured to the space around him.
"Oh, yeah, sorry. And call me Jenna," Jenna told Klaus with a giggle and he narrowed his eyes losing his patience and Jenna gulped. "I mean why not be on first name basis with the guy who had you kidnapped and almost killed you once?" Jenna began to babble and Klaus frowned.
"It's been really nice catching up. If you will excuse me," Klaus snapped before walking around Jenna and starting to head down the hall once more.
"I want a room on a different floor so the kids won't judge me," Jenna blurted out and Klaus' head cocked to the side before he began to chuckle.
Turning back to Jenna, Klaus smiled genuinely. "Jenna, your niece is dating a crazed serial killer and your nephew is dating my sister. Trust me they have nothing to judge you about."
"But I'm spending most nights with their history teacher and I cleaned out the mini fridge three times yesterday." Jenna informed Klaus and he shook his head as she looked unsure about what to say.
"If you truly believe a different floor with change their opinions then I will go ahead and make the switch," Klaus reassured the woman before walking away.
Klaus did not get far before he ran into Bill Forbes. "Klaus, just the vampire I don't want my baby girl dating," Bill called with a friendly smile that lacked any type of friendliness. "I think I'd like to have a word with you."
"And if you want to live you might want to find something else to do with your time. Call your boyfriend," Damon said as he stepped in front of Bill. "If Caroline needs you to get yourself killed on her account she'll let you know. Bye-bye, Daddy Bill," Damon wiggled his fingers as Bill glared at him. Before Bill could speak Damon and Klaus sped toward the elevator and disappeared as the doors closed.
"You know, Salvatore, I can't say that I thought your presence would be anything close to pleasurable but that was entertaining," Klaus murmured with a grin.
"I do try," Damon replied with his signature smirk. "So, how's it going without favorite pregers baby Hybrid?" Raising his eyebrows in question Damon seemed to be interested, not just playing at it like he usually did to get away with something.
"I do believe that we're making progress," Klaus informed Damon as they got off the elevator and Klaus was confronted with his newest employee, Sarah, who walked inside the elevator and pressed a button without a word. Klaus looked at Damon. "Is it you or me?"
"Who knows? These women are crazy," Damon rolled his eyes as Bonnie Bennett came running through the lobby in a tiny swimming suit. She skidded in front of them. "Have you seen Kol?" She asked staring around her with wide paranoid eyes.
"No," Klaus replied but he was unable to elaborate on his comments when Kol appeared with one of those guns that spray water and he began to soak the three. Bonnie hurried behind Klaus who found himself with a pair of thoroughly soaked pants. Then the couple ran away.
Damon began to laugh. "Oh, man, Papa Hybrid. You should see yourself right now. Wait, hold on," Damon pulled out his phone and took a picture. He looked down at the phone and then sighed. "Nope. Let me try again." Damon raised the phone and took another. Nodding in satisfaction he then hit a few buttons before showing Klaus the results.
"That is not funny," Klaus snapped as he looked down at his jeans in annoyance.
"Everyone else seems to think so," Damon told Klaus, placing a hand on Klaus shoulder and Klaus snarled. Staring at the tiny photo of himself with his wet pants Klaus felt the desire to rip Damon's head off.
Then something worse happened. Rebekah appeared with her little human toy. They were further intoxicated and Rebekah had blood on her shirt and her mouth. Jeremy had a wound that she had not bothered to heal yet and there were now human guests of the hotel gawking at his sister and her boyfriend.
Growling inwardly, Klaus approached the two as they held each other and were laughing about something. "Bekah, what in the hell are you thinking?" Klaus whispered harshly to his sister who grabbed ahold of his arm.
"Nik," Bekah giggled loudly and he smelled the liquor on her breath. "Oh, you should have been at the party at the beach this evening. It was lovely. I had no idea that Kol could be that inventive. Oh, I am so happy right now."
Staring at the guests warily and trying to estimate how long it would take to compel all thirty of them, he turned his attention to Rebekah. "Why don't you and your happiness go upstairs and stay there until you're sober?" Klaus suggested and Rebekah pouted.
"You are such a party pooper," Rebekah whined loudly and Klaus stared back at her in irritation as his sister swayed back and forth in front of him. "Isn't he a party pooper?" She asked Jeremy who nodded fervently.
"Dude, your brother's a dick," Jeremy said with a grin.
Rebekah scoffed loudly pulling away from Jeremy and smacked him on the arm making him nearly fall over. "What makes you think I look like a dude?" She questioned her boyfriend loudly earning the couple yet more stares and more attention.
"What makes you think you don't look like a dude?" Klaus' least favorite doppleganger asked his sister as she came to stand with the group. Klaus could not concentrate on Katherine because Elijah was standing in the lobby dripping water on the marble floor.
The happy smile on Elijah's face was what disturbed Klaus the most. He was far too happy. It could not be natural. Then Elijah began to dance about the lobby and Klaus placed his hands to his temples. If he had looked in the mirror he would have realized how much he looked like Caroline. "Elijah!" Klaus moaned, trying to blink away the image of his older brother wiggling his hips and humming to some song that Klaus had never heard before.
"Yes, Niklaus. Life is so much fun. Why aren't you having fun, brother? Find Caroline and join the party. You'll never forget how much fun you'll have," Elijah told Klaus, his eyes glittering unnaturally.
"Elijah," Klaus growled, forcing himself to meet his brother's eyes. "Are you high?"
"No," Elijah replied too slowly shaking his head back and forth.
"Dear God," Klaus groaned.
"He's not high," Katherine defended her husband. "Well, not on what you think," Looking thoughtful Katherine seemed to be lost in her own thoughts. Then Klaus realized that she must have ingested whatever it was as well. But maybe she took the substance more often so the effects were not being expressed in her as much. "Katherine, what is it?" Klaus asked as calmly as he could.
"What is what?" Katherine retorted and then smiled brightly. "Look Elijah's snacking on the one of the guests."
Klaus felt his jaw tighten when the other guests began to scream. "Damn it," he growled as he watched his brother drowning a young women right in the middle of the lobby.
"Oh, what is going on down here?" Tyler called as he appeared with his mother.
"Be useful and start compelling people," Klaus demanded, his expression darkening as he stared at the hybrid.
Tyler sneered at Klaus. "I'm not sired to you anymore, Klaus. I don't have to do anything for you."
"Just do it," Caroline commanded Tyler who frowned but then began to compel as many guests as possible.
"What is going on here?" Carol Lockwood asked, her gaze moving around the lobby.
Caroline turned to her. "Mayor Lockwood, you came down for a drink but the lobby was closed so you went back to your room to take a long nap until tomorrow morning." Turning away from the confused Mayor, Caroline came to stand beside Klaus. "What is going on?"
"Party!" Matt yelled as he walked in the doors with his young wife. Klaus was not sure why the two had not been compelled to forget their wedding because getting into the elevator had become a hazard if you didn't want to walk in on the couple. One of the only downsides of running this place was having to deal with all the antics of his many guests. Other than that everything was blissfully lovely.
"It seems that there was a party that has driven most of the guests to near madness." Klaus informed Caroline who rolled her eyes. "Maybe after I fix this little problem we could join the festivities."
Caroline stared at him like he had asked her to rip her own heart out. "Pregnant. Remember," she shook her head as she walked away to help Tyler compel the guests to forget the oddities of his family and her friends.
Klaus put his head down gritting his teeth in frustration. He had momentarily forgotten about the baby. How was that even possible? Thinking about this new problem, Klaus began to grab guests and compel them. It was the least he could do he felt.
Even though Klaus helped it did not cause Caroline to even give a second of her attention. After the last guest was compelled she marched over to the elevator and was staring at the floor when the doors closed. Cursing inwardly Klaus walked away from the mess to run into Stefan who was sitting in the bar with none other than Dr. Lexi Branson. "Klaus," Lexi greeted Klaus with a smile and waved her glass about.
Taking a seat at the bar Klaus contemplated how very much he wished he were an only child. "How's Caroline?" Lexi asked Klaus and he stared at the bar top wishing he could be alone. He should just compel them to leave.
"She's fine," Stefan answered for Klaus who was gazing at the bar forlornly.
"Good. I'm glad she's doing well. I'm sure she'll be happy to know that the baby is doing well," Lexi told Stefan directing her gaze toward Klaus.
Looking up, Klaus focused on Lexi. "It is?" He had not taken too much account of their child's welfare and it was unfortunate that he had opened his mouth in front of Caroline. Sometimes for an intelligent man he could be rather stupid. "Is there anything else that you know about the baby?"
Klaus could not deny that he was curious. However, he was also afraid that she would inform him that his daughter was some sort of demon that they would one day have to put out of its misery. "It's odd. I've never seen anything like it," Lexi began to say and Klaus felt his fears coming to fruition. "The baby seems to be a combination of werewolf and vampire. The baby is definitely going to be a handful. And your mother was a witch correct?"
Klaus nodded. "Yes, my mother was the Original witch."
Lexi grinned. "That's going to one powerful baby you two have on your hands. I hope you are prepared and I hope that you are being as supportive as possible of Caroline. At this stage in her pregnancy her hormones will be elevated and her emotions are already heightened as she is a hybrid."
"Thank you for the relationship advice," Klaus retorted sarcastically before getting up without the drink he had craved. He would frankly prefer his own company right now. Walking to the bank of elevators Klaus walked into one and slid his key card to allow himself access to his floor. Right now all he wanted was to be left alone with his own thoughts.
Stepping off the elevator Klaus was startled when he heard a noise from his bedroom. Speeding toward the shut doors he threw them open wide to find Caroline standing in the middle of the room. There was sand all over the floor - up to three inches worth. A large lamp in the corner gave the impression of the sun beating down. A beach ball was next to Caroline's left foot and she was pushing it back and forth. An iPod was playing popular music that would usually annoy Klaus.
"Since you did not want to go to the party I brought the party to you," Caroline murmured before she kicked the ball to Klaus who grinned. He threw it over his shoulder and then walked over to Caroline. Taking her in his arms he began to spin her around slowly.
"We are going to have a magical baby," Klaus whispered into Caroline's ear.
"How magical?" Caroline whispered back pulling back to look him in the eye.
Klaus smiled while pulling impossibly closer. "Just magical enough that she will be unmistakably ours. Do not fear, love, she will be the most well protected, loved little girl on the planet and she will be brilliant. I swear to you, Caroline, we have nothing to fear."
"But fear itself," Caroline told him with a giggle and Klaus felt his heart lighten as they looked into each other's eyes before falling backwards onto the sand. He was determined to take Lexi's words to heart and to give Caroline whatever she needed from now on and to hell with the bloody resort.
Okay, I hate to have to do this but here goes… to my guest reviewer who wrote what I consider disparaging remarks about Hayley and Cami. I have characters that I do not like but I choose to take the high road and either not include them or to find the better points about their characters whatever those may be. So, just keep in mind that these are real people playing these roles and that they have a right to not be discussed in that manner.
