A/N: I'm still alive, I swear! So sorry. I tried to have this up sooner, but I finally succumbed to the evil cold that has been plaguing my family for weeks. Many thanks though to my followers, to those who have favourited, and to everyone who has taken the time to review. Love love love. So, I know I normally break every episode up into 2 parts, but this time I'm doing 3. Hope you still enjoy! I would love to hear your thoughts :)

Rose was right. They could figure out what to do with... Jenny... later. After they saved the day, they would sit down and decide what should be done. Together. Because there was no way the Doctor could make this decision by himself. He wasn't thinking clearly when it came to his... daughter. He cleared his throat. "Right then. Time to find a way out of the cell."

"I have an idea!" Jenny piped in.

He gave her a wary look. "I don't think that's the best thing to do right now."

"Really though," she protested, "I have an idea. A sure thing. And I swear I won't hurt anyone."

The Doctor glanced at Rose who gave a small shrug and whispered, "She's trying to impress you. Let her show you what she can do."

He sighed. "Alright then. Be impressive."

The young blonde squealed with delight before motioning the Doctor, Rose, and Donna behind the wall. Meanwhile, schooling her features and pasting a cloy smile on her face, she saddled up to the side of the cell their guard was standing at. Cline was his name, if she remembers correctly. "Hey," she said softly.

"I'm not supposed to talk to you. I'm on duty," he replied, trying to sound more authoritative than he really was.

"I know. Guarding me. So, does that mean I'm dangerous, or that I need protecting?"

His face broke into a grin as he moved to stand directly in front of her. "Protecting from what?"

"Oh, I don't know. Men like you?" she suggested flirtatiously before grabbing his uniform and snogging him thoroughly. With Cline distracted by the kiss, Jenny was able to reach through the bars and grab his gun. Breaking away, she pointed the weapon directly at his stomach. "Keep quiet and open the door," she ordered in her sweetest voice.

Behind the wall, Donna snorted in disbelief. "I'd like to see you try that," she told the Doctor. "You sure she's not Rose's too?"

Rose rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but giggle. She distinctly remembered doing the exact same thing once back when she was travelling with the Doctor and Jack. While Jack had found her display impressive, the Doctor was not amused.

Quietly, the small group made their way out of the cell and down a flight of stairs, with Jenny currently in the lead. Just as they were about to descend another flight of stairs, they found a guard stationed there. The Doctor pulled Jenny back and whispered, "That's the way out." When she raised the gun she had procured from Cline, he grabbed her hands. "Don't you dare."

Donna leaned in and said, "Let me distract this one. I have picked up a few womanly wiles over the years."

Rose bit her lip at the look of horror on the Doctor's face. "Rude," she mouthed to him behind the ginger's back.

Trying for a more neutral expression he replied, "Let's save your wiles for later. In case of emergency."

"What do you suggest we do then, Doctor?" Rose asked.

He held a finger up, asking for a moment, as he began rummaging in his coat pockets. "Aha!" he exclaimed, pulling a small toy mouse out. Winding it up, he placed it on the floor. Predictably, the guard heard the small chattering created from the toy and moved to investigate it. Just as he bent over and picked the mouse up, Jenny jumped forward and karate chopped him from behind. "I was going to distract him, not clobber him," the Doctor chastised.

"Well, it worked, didn't it?" she questioned.

"They must all have a copy of that new map," he muttered to himself, pulling a flimsy looking paper away from the guard before looking back at Jenny. "Just stay there. Don't hurt anyone." With that he stalked off, with Donna following close behind.

Jenny stood there awkwardly until Rose motioned for her to follow. "Come on then," the older blonde said.

"He's very odd, my father," Jenny acknowledged quietly as she and Rose stayed a few steps behind the Doctor and Donna.

"That he is," Rose agreed with a small laugh.

"What are you to him?"

"Sorry?"

"He looks at you differently than how he looks at her." She nodded to Donna. "Are you two partners?... I mean are you together?"

Rose blushed. "Oh. Yeah, yeah we're together... Partners... Not really sure what the right term is for us."

"So, that sort of makes you like my mother?"

"What!? Uh... N-no," she stuttered. "The Doctor said since you came from that machine his hand was stuck in, that he counts as both parents. Which sort of makes him both mum and dad to you, I guess... And in any other circumstance I would probably be taking the mickey out of him for it. Besides, you and I, we look similar in age, couldn't really be your mum. Now the Doctor, he may look young, but trust me, he is old enough to be your dad."

Jenny stopped in her tracks and stared at Rose. "There's something different about you, though. There's something connecting us. I can feel it here." She tapped her temple.

"What do you mean?" Rose asked.

Before she could answer, they heard the Doctor cry out, "Wait." He had stopped walking as well. "This is it. The hidden tunnel. There must be a control panel." He pulled out the sonic screwdriver and began scanning the walls.

Donna looked up and found another sign with several numbers on it. "It's another one of those numbers. They're everywhere."

"Maybe it's how they kept track of things when building," Rose suggested, moving past Jenny to stand next to the Doctor.

The Time Lord nodded. "The original builders must have left them. Some old cataloguing system."

"You got a pen? Bit of paper?" Donna asked. When he handed her the items, she began writing the numbers down. "Because, do you see, the numbers are counting down. This one ends in one four. The prison cell said one six."

Jenny shook her head in wonder. "Always thinking, all three of you. Who are you people?" Her eyes met Rose's.

She took a deep breath. "We told you before. Donna, Rose, and the Doctor."

"The Doctor." The younger blonde stared at the man crouched by Rose's feet. "That's it?"

"That's all he ever says," Donna muttered in a sing-song tone.

"So, you don't have a name either? Are you an anomaly, too?"

"No," he answered.

"Oh, come off it," Donna scoffed. "You're the most anomalous bloke I've ever met."

Rose stepped in. "Jenny, he has a name, but The Doctor is the name he chose for himself. That's all that matters."

The Doctor gave her an appreciative smile before finding the control panel he had been looking for, hidden in the wall. "Here it is!"

"And Time Lords," Jenny continued. "What are they for, exactly?"

"For?" He looked at her quizzically. "They're not, they're not for anything."

"So what do you two do?" she asked Rose and the Doctor.

"Oh, I'm not a Time Lord," Rose told her. "I'm human... Mostly."

The Doctor rolled his eyes at her playfully before telling Jenny, "We travel through time and space."

Donna moved closer to the young girl. "They saves planets, rescues civilisations, defeats terrible creatures. And they run a lot. Seriously, there's an outrageous amount of running involved."

Suddenly a door hidden in the wall slid open. "Got it!" the Doctor cried. In the distance they heard General Cobb shouting orders as they drew closer. The Doctor grinned and grabbed Rose's hand. "Now, what were you saying about running?"

They all quickly ran into the adjoining corridor, but were stopped in their tracks by red laser beams criss-crossing and blocking their path.

"That's not mood lighting, is it?" Donna asked dejectedly. The Doctor pulled the toy mouse he had used earlier out of his pocket at threw it in the grid. As soon as the mouse hit the laser, it sparked and disintegrated. She sighed. "No, I didn't think so."

"Arming device," he said, moving to a control box off to his left.

Donna pointed to another sign on the wall, pulling out her pen and paper. "There's more of these. Always eight numbers, counting down the closer we get."

With quick work from the sonic, the Doctor was able to make his way into the control box. "Right, here we go."

"You'd better be quick," the ginger informed when she heard footsteps drawing closer.

Hearing a familiar voice, Jenny stepped away from her father. "The General."

"Where are you going?" the Doctor asked as she began to walk away.

"I can hold them up."

"No, we don't need any more dead."

"But it's them or us."

"It doesn't mean you have to kill them!"

"I'm trying to save your life," she reasoned.

The Doctor sighed and took her shoulders in his hands. Bending down so he could look at her properly, he said, "Listen to me. The killing. After a while, it infects you. And once it does, you're never rid of it."

She shook her head in denial. "We don't have a choice."

Rose stepped forward and took Jenny's hand, gasping when she felt a tiny spark flare in her mind. Feeling the connection Jenny had told her about, she felt tears prickle her eyes. "There is always a choice, Jenny," she said vehemently.

The young blonde stepped backwards and said regretfully, "I'm sorry."

"Jenny," the Doctor warned, but it was too late. She ran off and began preparing for battle.

Rose flinched when she heard gunshots begin to echo through the corridor. The Doctor shook his head as he went back to working on the control box. "I told you. Nothing but a soldier."

"She's trying to help," Donna replied softly.

He ignored her and continued working on taking the laser grid down. "Almost got it," he muttered under his breath.

Hearing this, Rose shouted, "Jenny! Come on!"

"I'm coming!" they heard her yell back just as General Cobb ordered for his troops to cease fire.

A few seconds later, the laser grid went down, leaving a wide open corridor. "That's it," Donna exclaimed.

"Jenny, leave it!" the Doctor cried out as he grabbed both of his companions hands. "Let's go."

Rose felt her heart hammering in her chest as they waited at the end of the corridor for Jenny to come after them. She thought she could make out the general's voice, coaxing the young woman to join their side, but she couldn't hear clearly what was being said. A few seconds later they heard another gunshot ring out. Rose was tempted to run back, but the Doctor's firm grasp on her hand kept her from doing so. She gave a sigh of relief when they heard Jenny's light footsteps running towards them.

"Jenny, come on!" the Doctor cried as the young woman appeared before them. "That's it!"

"Hurry up," Donna cheered.

Jenny skidded to a halt when the laser beams reappeared.

The Doctor cringed. "No, no, no, no, no, no. The circuit's looped back."

"Well, fix it!" Rose snapped. Her nerves were on edge and her mind was buzzing in a strange but familiar way.

"The controls are back there."

"They're coming," Jenny called out, the sounds of gun shots close behind her.

"Do something, Doctor," Rose pleaded.

He began running his hands through his hair in obvious frustration. "Wait... Just... There isn't... Jenny, I can't!"

Jenny gave a small smirk and tossed her gun to the side. "I'll have to manage on my own. Watch and learn, Father."

Rose gasped when she realised what she was about to do. "Oh, she isn't...? She is!"

Taking a deep breath, Jenny began somersaulting her way through the lasers.

"No way," Donna stated in shock just as the young woman landed perfectly in front of them. "But that was impossible!"

"Not impossible. Just a bit unlikely." The Doctor gave a wide grin and scooped Jenny into his arms. "Brilliant! You were brilliant! Brilliant."

Rose felt her heart soar at the sight of the Doctor and his daughter embracing. There was just something so right about it, and suddenly Rose knew that Jenny belonged with them. They might not be a conventional family, but that's what they could be... a family. Rose wiped a stray tear away and pulled Jenny into her own embrace. "That was amazing! Gold medal worthy, for sure!"

The younger blonde beamed at her father and the woman her mind was recognising as he mother and said excitedly, "I didn't kill him. General Cobb. I could have kill him but I didn't. You were right. I had a choice."

Before the Doctor or Rose could give her any praise, General Cobb appeared on the other side of the grid and ordered his soldiers to take arms. Donna grabbed Jenny, and ran out of the corridor, while the other two time travellers stood their ground. "I warned you, Cobb. If the Source is a weapon, I'm going to make sure you never use it," the Doctor threatened.

"One of us is going to die today and it won't be me," the general responded, raising his gun and firing.

Pushing Rose out of the way, the Doctor made it out just as the rest of the soldiers began shooting.

After catching up with the other women, the Doctor and Rose took the lead and began making their way towards the source. Donna and Jenny kept behind them, speaking in shushed tones.

"Doctor?" Rose said quietly, looping her arm through his.

"Yes?"

"I know," she cleared her throat, "I know you said that technically your both mum and dad to Jenny. But, thing is I think I have some sort of connection to her. There's like this spark in my mind and I just know it's her. And, and she feels it too. And I was just thinking that maybe... Maybe this could be our chance, yeah? A chance at a family. Not that I need that! Cause I don't. I'm happy with our life. I don't need to be a mum or anything, but I just thought... I don't know. You know what? Forget I mentioned this. I-"

"Rose!" the Doctor injected with a chuckle. "Blimey, and you say I'm the one with the gob." He bent down and kissed the top of her head. "I know I... resisted... the idea of Jenny at first. But she bloody terrifies me. I was a rubbish dad. But, I'm willing to give it a shot with you by my side. And first thing we're doing once we get back to the TARDIS is running a few tests and figuring out this connection you both claim to have."

"Oi! It's not a claim. It's real."

"I believe you. You know, come to think of it, you may have made an impression on Jenny's creation."

Rose quirked an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"Well, you were holding my hand right before they stuck it in the machine." He held up the appendage for inspection. "Maybe there were some traces of you that transferred over."

Rose smiled just as Donna asked loudly, "Won't she, Doctor?"

He turned to face his other companion. "Hmm?" he questioned, having not been paying attention to the other conversation being had.

"Do you think Jenny will see any new worlds?" she clarified.

"I suppose so."

"You mean..." Jenny stopped and looked between all three travellers. "You mean you'll take me with you?"

The Doctor shared a knowing look with Rose before replying, "Well, we can't leave you here, can we?"

The young woman squealed with delight and threw herself into the Doctor's arms. "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. Come on, let's get a move on," she said, starting to run ahead.

"Careful, there might be traps," he called after her.

Donna rolled her eyes dramatically."Kids. They never listen." She looked at the couple on her left and saw the Doctor's frown accompanied by Rose nervously biting her thumbnail. "Oh, I know that look. I see it a lot round our way. Blokes with pushchairs and frowns. You've got dad-shock. And Rose has got the frantic mum thing down pat."

"Dad-shock?" the Doctor asked.

"Sudden unexpected fatherhood. Take a bit of getting used to."

"No, it's not that," he protested as Rose said, "I'm not frantic!"

"Well, what is it then? Having Jenny in the TARDIS, is that it? What's she going to do, cramp your style? Like you've got a sports car and she's going to turn it into a people-carrier?"

"Donna, I've been a father before," he told her carefully. It wasn't something he admitted everyday. The only other person who knew that fact was the woman tucked into his side.

She blinked in shock. "What?"

"I lost all that a long time ago, along with everything else. And Rose and I..." He looked carefully at his love. She squeezed his waist, giving him permission to share their plight. "Rose and I can't have kids."

"I'm sorry," Donna apologised, looking sadly at her friends. "I didn't know. Why didn't you tell me? You talk all the time, but you don't say anything."

"I know," the Doctor admits. "I'm just... When I look at her now, I can see them. The hole they left, all the pain that filled it. I just don't know if I can face that every day." They stopped walking as Rose turned and buried her face in his chest, breathing in his comforting scent.

The ginger woman sighed and stared at where Jenny had ran off. "It won't stay like that. She'll help you. And you have Rose this time. We'll all be there."

"But when they died, that part of me died with them. I'm afraid it'll never come back. Not now." He pulled back and took Rose's face in his hands. "You deserve so much more."

Rose shook her head in denial. "No. That's not true. I know that's not true."

"I'm going to have to agree with Rose and tell you something, Doctor," Donna injected. "Something I've never told you before. I think you're wrong."

Suddenly they heard gunfire in the distance and Jenny came racing back. "They've blasted through the beams. Time to run again. Love the running. Yeah?"

The Doctor smiled proudly at her and concurred, "Love the running."

The smile on his face grew as he watched Rose and Jenny racing side by side. Perhaps his companions were right. Maybe he could be a father again. Maybe, just maybe, the universe was being kind for once and giving him a gift. The gift of a family. He prayed to every deity he didn't really believe in for that to be true and that this wasn't going to be some cruel joke played once again at his expense.
