"Ladies and gentlemen," the announcer's voice echoed throughout the stadium, "I'm glad to announce the competitors for this competition. This little lady is a trainer that almost came out of nowhere, but she must be talented to get into this tournament. Let's give it up for Roxanne Phoenix!" the crowd went wild as a skinny black-haired girl with green eyes walked out into the arena, "And her opponent, I don't know if he's skilled or just lucky, but with his name I'm not sure. All the way from Celestic Town, here's Mike Shamrock." A brunette boy walked into the arena, he was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, and a red vest, and he red eyes showed determination and confidence. "Remember, this is a one-on-one with no items, send out your Pokémon."
"Jumpluff, let's go!" Roxanne shouted as the Cottonweed Pokémon was released.
Mike smirked, "Bad move, let's get them Infernape." He said as he released the fire monkey.
"Let the battle of Jumpluff vs. Infernape begin!" the announcer said officially starting the battle.
"Jumpluff Swords Dance," Roxanne commanded. Jumpluff nodded and started to dance and a flurry of swords surrounded her, after a few seconds they clashed together in a burst of blue light and Jumpluff glowed red and looked stronger.
Mike rolled his eyes, "Please at least make it a challenge, Infernape let's finish this quickly. Use Flamethrower." Infernape took in a huge breath of air before unleashing an enormous amount of flame from his mouth.
"Jumpluff get out of there!" she nodded and jumped high into the air and avoided the attack. Even after avoiding the fire she continued to get higher, then she started to fall incredibly fast towards Infernape. She was using Bounce.
Mike realized it, "Infernape get out of the way!" but it was too late. Jumpluff finished the move by nearly flattening Infernape when she landed on him. Jumpluff happily skipped away from Infernape, "C'mon buddy get up," Mike urged his Pokémon. He got up, "Good, now let's show them what we're truly made of. Use Blast Punch."
Roxanne raised an eyebrow, she never heard of than move, "Jumpluff be on the lookout and avoid his attack." She said in advance. Jumpluff nodded just as Infernape started launching small Fire Blasts from his fists. Jumpluff danced her way around them, but a lucky shot nailed her and she went tumbling backwards covered with small burns. Roxanne narrowed her eyes, "If that's how they want to play, use Bullet Bomb to throw him off balance."
Jumpluff nodded and leaped into the air just before another blast scorched where she was standing. When she was high enough in the air, she used Bullet Seed, but when the seeds hit the ground. They blew up revealing them to be Seed Bombs. Jumpluff continued to shoot the seeds at the area around Infernape's feet until he stumbled backwards.
"Now let's finish this." Roxanne said, "Energy Ball, then absorb it." Jumpluff formed a green ball of energy in between her hands then the cotton spores on her head absorbed it turning them green, "Now use Acrobatics." Jumpluff's body flickered white before charging Infernape.
Mike all but shouted his last command, "Fire Punch her before she hits you!" Infernape raised a fit and set it on fire. Jumpluff continued to get closer, "NOW!" he shouted and Infernape shot his fist forward and there was an explosion that covered the two Pokémon in a cloud of dust. When the dust settled Jumpluff was hovering over Infenape. Infernape had swirls in his eyes.
"Infernape is unable to battle, which means Roxanne and her Jumpluff have won and will be moving on into the next round." The crowd went nuts and Roxanne cheered. Mike recalled Infernape and walked forward. Roxanne walked forward and met him in the center of the stage.
"Good battle," Mike said extending a hand.
"Ditto," she responded and shook his hand. Jumpluff landed on her shoulder and the two of them left the arena.
"Your Jumpluff is fine except for a few burns which will be easy to heal," Nurse Joy told Roxanne.
She nodded, "Thanks again." Nurse Joy smiled at her and went into the back room. Roxanne was about to sit down in one of the chair when a slow clapping sound made her jump. She turned around and saw Clyde slowly clapping his hands together.
"Very impressive Phoenix," Clyde said, "You have a fire worthy of your name." Roxanne blushed.
"You watched my battle?" she asked him.
"Yes I did, you certainly know how to pull off move combinations. I'm surprised you're not a coordinator." He replied.
"I considered it, but it just wasn't as thrilling as battling," She explained, "No offense." She added. Clyde's mouth twitched.
"None taken, I actually agree with you." Clyde's stoic voice explained to her, "There are some things about coordinating that aren't as thrilling as battling." Something beeped; it was something attached to Clyde's wrist. Clyde pulled the sleeve of his jacket back to look at the watch, "Sorry to leave you, but I was something to take care of." Clyde walked away leaving Roxanne alone in the room.
"Okay Drew where are we going?" Ash asked, ever since Drew led them out of the stadium, he had no idea where they were going.
"To this food place I heard about." He answered, but it didn't really answer the implied specifics of Ash's question.
May giggled, "Don't worry Ash. Drew knows what he's doing."
"That's the problem," Ash said quietly and the others laughed.
"That fact aside," Drew grumbled, "We're here." the group looked up to see Drew had brought them to a pretty well-known restaurant, The Shiny Meowstic.
"Sounds like a place Clyde would be interested in," Paul commented and Ash agreed.
"Why's that?" Nora asked.
"For several reasons, Clyde reminds us a lot of a shiny Meowstic." Paul explained, she nodded seeing his point.
Dawn looked at Paul and Ash, "That reminds me, I've been meaning to ask. How did you guys meet Clyde in the first place?"
Ash thought for a few seconds, "I'll tell you when we're eating."
Trip looked at the video of Ash's past battles while he was under the name Jacob Pine, he had gotten more powerful, but he couldn't done far better. It's as if he's purposely holding back, but Ash and his Pokémon looked like he was giving his all. So why were his Pokémon weaker than others he had seen?
"Trip," Gary's voice said behind him, "So we're going through with the plans the day after tomorrow?" Trip was about to answer when his X-transceiver beeped. He took it out, it was a message from the founder of the League. He read it.
Trainers, I apologize for having to give you this news, but I'm shortening the number of rounds in the tournament and going straight to the quarter-finals, which unfortunately means I'm going to have to disqualify some of the competitors. Don't worry I'm only disqualifying the Region Champs(retired and current) and any of the Gym Leaders that may be competing, because I want to give a chance to people who haven't already proven themselves. Thank you that is all.
"Change of plans," Trip said, "The Founder has decided to forcefully cut enough competitors to the point that the League is already at the quarter-finals." Trip looked at his three comrades, "We're going through with the plan first thing tomorrow morning." They all nodded and left the room.
A small Pokemon came out of hiding, "Not if the Master has anything to say about it." he quietly said before leaving the room.
"So how did you meet Clyde Paul?" May asked the purple haired trainer.
Paul thought for a minute so he could better remember it, "It was a few months after I lost to Ash in the Sinnoh League, I was mad and decided to put my Pokémon through an intense training session. I pushed my Pokémon to the point that I nearly killed them, but Clyde came out of nowhere and stopped me from doing so." Paul rubbed the back of my head, "Meaning he knocked me out." Everybody laughed, "Well anyway when I woke up Clyde explained how he knew a way for me to get stronger, and I accepted, and after that. Clyde pretty much became my best friend." Everyone nodded.
"What about you Ash?" Nora asked.
"I met Clyde and Paul in a Pokémon Center, the same day everyone betrayed me." Ash said earning a few gasps, "He, or Paul, gave me the same offer to become stronger. We've been traveling ever since."
"Wow," Drew said, "Clyde sure has perfect timing." Everyone looked at him, "I mean, kind of strange that Clyde was right there after Paul lost in the League and was around the same area Ash was in when everyone betrayed him. Just seemed like a big coincidence." Ash thought for a minute, it was a big coincidence.
"Ash you okay?" Dawn asked.
He nodded, "Yeah, just deep in thought I guess." Ash couldn't shake the question out of his head.
They finished eating and left the restaurant, "So what's the plan now?" Paul asked.
Drew smiled, "I think we should all spit up and have each couple do their own thing."
"WHAT?!" Paul and Ash exclaimed at the same time.
Drew rubbed his ears, "Thanks for making me deaf," he said sarcastically, "hey I think we should each get some one-on-one time with our dates."
Paul rolled his eyes, "He probably just wants to get some alone time with May." He said to the others. They laughed and Drew blushed, "But I do see your point, and since you're just going to keep bugging us, we'll go with it." Drew held his arm to May, she wrapped hers around it and they walked away like a couple of newly weds. Paul and Nora walked away side by side in a different direction.
Dawn turned to Ash, "So I guess it's just you and me now."
"I guess so," Ash smiled and grabbed her hand, "Not that I have a problem with it." Dawn blushed and returned the smile, "C'mon, I saw this park that I wanted to take a look at earlier." Ash said sounding like his younger self.
The park was huge, but it wasn't small either. There were a couple pathways and lots of green field with a few trees here and there. There were kids playing tag, trainers playing with their Pokémon, and couples of all ages doing activities together. Ash and Dawn were taking a walk through the park and enjoying each other's company by sharing small stories of what had happened to them the past five years.
Ash led Dawn to a bench and they both sat down, "Hey Dawn, I think it's time you met someone very close to me." Ash asked. Dawn was confused as to who he met, and was slightly relieved when he only pulled out a pokeball, "Come on out little guy." Ash said releasing Shaymin. The small grass-type looked around before he saw Ash.
"Daddy!" he said telepathicly in a cheerful and child-like voice as he ran toward Ash, who brought him into a small hug when he got close. Dawn smiled and giggled slightly at the scene in front of him.
"Hey Shaymin, I want to officially meet someone. He turned Shaymin to the blunette, "This is Dawn, the one I told you about." Shaymin stared at her for a few seconds before his light green eyes lit up.
"Mommy!" Dawn blushed at the title and almost didn't catch the small Pokémon, who was now nuzzling her chest. Dawn raised an eyebrow at Ash.
"I would often show Shaymin a picture of you, and pretty soon he got used to calling you Mommy." He explained.
"Well he is very sweet." Dawn said as she gave the Pokémon a small squeeze, "Is this-"
"The Pokémon from the egg you gave me?" Ash finished, "Yes he is." Ash stroked Shaymin as he nestled himself into Dawns arms, "He was my biggest reminder of all the times we shared together." Dawn smiled and saw something.
"Look Ash the sun is setting." Dawn said, ash turned and saw that the setting sun was now turning the sky red and orange, "Isn't this the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?"
Ash looked at the sunset, "I can think of something even more beautiful." He said returning his gaze to Dawn. She didn't blush this time, but she did give him one of the most beautiful smiles he had ever seen. He was mesmerised as the gold specks in her perfect blue eyes seemed to sparkle even more than usual. Dawn leaned to the side and rested her head on Ash's shoulder.
"I think today is probably the best day ever." Dawn said.
"Me too." He replied.
Ash was now walking Dawn to her room in the hotel she was staying in, unfortunately for both of them, their night had to come to an end. Dawn turned towards Ash, "Well good night Ash," She said before kissing him on the cheek, "Sweet dreams."
"You too." Ash replied and Dawn went into her room and closed the door. Ash still had a smile on his face even when he left the building. Then he went to the grove where he last saw Sir Aaron to continue where they left off.
The small Pokémon was in front of his trainer, "-and when they read the announcement they decided to go through with the plan earlier than they excepted." He finished explaining to his master, who looked like he was in deep concentration, "So what now Master?"
"How many times must I tell you not to call me Master." He said to the small Pokémon.
"I lost track, but you've been telling me that ever since the second or third time I called you by that." he replied. Master's expression didn't change, "So what are you going to do know?"
"You said they're going through with the plan first thing tomorrow morning?" Master asked, the small Pokémon nodded, "We just do what I said before, we work through indirect means." He explained, "At least until the League is over. Then I'll make my move."
