Rogue - Chapter 11

I don't own Warriors.

Chapter 11

Will waited in silence under a dumpster in the middle of town. His eyes were closed as he meditated, thinking about his decisions. His mind swam with ideas. What was he going to do with Frostflower now that his son was bringing her back to his headquarters? Use her for ransom? Kill her? Make Toby suffer the same way he did? Was it revenge he was really after?

"Will," a quiet voice summoned him from the outside.

"What is it now, Smoke?" the black tom queried his brother. "Has someone died? Had kits? Has a meteor fallen from the sky and destroyed the army?"

Smoke seemed bewildered by his questions. "N- no, sir."

"Then how dare you interrupt me when I'm meditating?!" he snarled at the gap between the dumpster and the pavement.

He heard Smoke gulp. "My apologies… master… But Bree would like to speak with you," he meowed nervously.

Will sighed exasperatedly. "Let her in," he sighed. "I don't have anything better to do," he muttered sarcastically.

There was a minute of silence as Smoke left him to go get Bree. Will turned toward the entrance and shifted so he was more comfortable, his front paws tucked under him cozily. His eyes dropped as warmth crept in around him.

There was a scuffling of paws outside which brought him to life as Bree squeezed through the gap into the hollow hole under the dumpster. "Will," she greeted her gaze not meeting his.

"You requested an audience with me," he mewed calmly, gazing at her innocently.

Bree nodded. "Yes… I was wondering if… if I can have my freedom… for my daughter and I," she stammered nervously. "We've followed the rules… we've done our chores… we want to be free from your c- family," she caught herself before she could say the wrong word.

Will pursed his lips together. Bree was Candy's only sister and had decided she loved Will before the families were feuding and Will fathered her only kits—Paw and Peter. Peter was a part of the first litter they had. His littermates died and he was alone. He chose to stay with his father the first time Bree tried to leave. Then, Paw was born. By then, Will put his family before her and she told him that she hated him. She wanted to leave, but Will was madly in love with her and refused to let her go, making her hate him even more. He knew that they had no chance at love and she just wanted to leave him and put their relationship behind them.

"Bree… I am sorry. I screwed up. I was a horrible person to you and I want you back, Bree. I still love you," he murmured pleadingly.

She looked at him, her pale yellow eyes glistening with the moisture of her tears. "Just let me go, Will," she mewed, her voice barely above a whisper. "Please, let me leave," she said a little louder, his voice cracking with pain.

Will felt tears welling up in his own eyes, but he blinked them away. "Okay… Take our daughter and go. Give her a new, better father. Be happy. And if that son of a badger hurts you…" he trailed off wincing. "Tell me."

Bree nodded. "Promise you'll remember me," she whispered looking down.

Will stroked her cheek with his tail and lifted her chin so she could see his face and he hers. "I could never forget," he whispered back.

He saw the tears flood over her eyes as she whipped around and bounded out of the den to get Paw. Will felt his heart ache like he never before; he felt sadness, happiness, guilt, pain, anguish and jealously. He was happy that Bree would get a chance at a normal happy life. He was sad because she was leaving. He was in pain because he forced her to leave. His anguish was that he would never love anyone like her again. He was jealous because he knew she would find someone else; someone who would make her happy.

"I will never love anyone the way I loved you," Bree's strangled voice came from outside the dumpster.

Will felt the water run down his cheeks and he didn't respond to her. He turned away from the entrance to the den filled with a new emotion—fury. Toby had love. Toby had a mate that loved him. Toby had a real life. He wanted to take that away from him. Toby was the one who did all this to him. If he hadn't started the feud with Will's band this never would've happened. Will wanted him to suffer.

"Will," Tony's voice meowed form outside. "Peter has brought the she-cat," he informed.

Will sniffed and wiped the tears away with his tail. "Very well," he meowed sharply. "I will be out in a minute," he promised and gave his pelt a quick grooming. Once his fur was decent he squeezed out of the gap and into the ally. The sun was just peeking over the rooftops slanting a yellow orange glaze across the sky. Sunlight draped into the ally making all the pelts shine, especially Will's majestic black fur.

The snow-white she-cat stood between the sandy brown fur of his son, Peter and the bright ginger, almost yellow pelt of Will's right-hand-man Gabriel. Frostflower glowered at the ginger tom; Will knew she hated him for nearly killing her.

"Frostflower," Will greeted warmly. "How do you feel?"

"Irritated. Violated. I can keep going forever," she growled glaring at him. "You lousy son of a badger," she growled.

"Aw, Frostflower if you're in love with me, just say so," Will mewed sarcastically.

Frostflower narrowed her eyes. "Why am I here?" she asked changing the subject.

Will smirked. "We'll get to that. How's Toby? Treating you well I hope?"

Her lips curled back in a snarl. "Cut to the chase, Will, I have got all StarClan-darned night!" Her claws flexed with her impatience, so Will decided to go ahead and tell her.

"Forgive me for trying to be civil."

"There's nothing civil about cat-napping someone in the middle of the night and dragging them off to some spirit-forsaken ally to chit-chat!" she spat, her eyes blazing like fire.

Will felt his neck fur bristle with anger; she was going down the wrong path. He flicked an ear in irritation. "Look—you're here for one reason and one reason only: so I can use your for ransom. My family is growing. Cats are being born and more and more housecats are coming out here looking for a new life. I am simply giving them what they request," he mewed surprisingly calm.

Frostflower growled and narrowed her eyes dangerously. "Those cats belong to SkyClan. And this territory belong to Toby and Darrin's family—not yours," she pointed out. "You don't deserve to ask for more territory."

"I never told you that you were ransom for territory," he pointed out.

"It's not hard to guess," she shot back.

Will nodded curtly at her. She was smarter than he had given her credit for. "Where did you come from, Frostflower? And what is 'SkyClan'?" he inquired.

She glared. "Why in the name of StarClan would I tell you?"

He snarled and flicked his tail.

Gabriel had his jaw secured tightly around his throat. Patrick winced as he pinned her lower half to the ground with his paws. All Gabriel had to do was close his mouth…

Frostflower stared at him, her eyes wide with terror. "Your reward is your life. It's not much," he chuckled. "But still."

She winced. "SkyClan was where I came from. I was a warrior. This cat killed my son and my mate. I killed him, but I killed the wrong cat. They exiled me, but I know who did it," she blurted out the words.

Will knew what to do. "He killed the only things important to you?" he asked pretending to be concerned. "You deserve revenge."

He thought he saw a look of anguish flash in her eyes, but it was quickly bad. "Revenge is for the weak. The strong forgive their enemies," she told him boldly.

Will felt a pang of sympathy touch him, then pushed it away. "Revenge is for the powerful. It's weak that listen to that dirt. You want him dead. You want him to suffer your pain," he meowed. "I know you do."

"You don't know me," she growled.

"I think I do."

She glared at him. "Go to the DarkForest," she snarled.

He narrowed his eyes. "Take her to my den. Keep her there and guard her. It won't be long before Toby and his crew will be here to get her back."

Frostflower growled. "You won't get away with this, you son of a badger!" she yowled. Gabriel and Patrick shoved her into his den and they stood guard.

Will padded out to the end of the ally. He stared at the large picket fence that separated the town from the forest. "SkyClan… I think I might pay her former Clan a visit…"
